The new, new GOG offers more community features to suggest new games, a new, faster downloader, and, most importantly, more games.<br /><br />GOG is fulfilling its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/17/report-good-old-games-to-offer-good-new-ish-games/">promise</a> of newer games with a growing selection of recent indies including <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/trine"><em>Trine</em></a> and <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_whispered_world"><em>The Whispered World</em></a>. It's even selling a game that's so <em>not</em> old, it's not even out yet. Pre-orders for the first-person dungeon RPG <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/legend_of_grimrock"><em>Legend of Grimrock</em></a> are open now for $11.99, in advance of its April 11 release.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/27/gog-re-relaunches-with-new-indies-and-grimrock-pre-orders/">GOG re-relaunches with new indies and Grimrock pre-orders</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Mar 2012 12:30:00 EST. 	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/08/trine-sales-reach-1-1-million-units/"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/trine530.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
Developer Frozenbyte revealed today, with the launch of <em>Trine 2</em> on PC/Mac, that the original <em>Trine</em> has sold 1.1 million units to date. <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/trine-crosses-11-million-sold-6347196"><br />
<br />
Gamespot</a> mentions a majority of <em>Trine</em> sales were achieved through Steam and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/new-humble-frozenbyte-bundle-bonuses-unlocked/">Humble Bundle</a>, with a "notable part" also coming from OnLive. The co-op action title is also available on PS3, but never launched on Xbox 360 due to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/12/trine-on-360-likely-will-not-happen/">significant hiccups</a>.<br />
<br />
<em>Trine 2</em> should not experience the same <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/trine-stuck-in-quality-assurance-testing-dev-unsure-of-releas/">console issues</a>, with the title expected to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/05/trine-2-puts-on-its-rogue-and-wizard-hats-starting-december-7/">launch in two weeks on PSN and XBLA</a>.<br />

<br />
The latest <a href="http://www.humblebundle.com/">Humble Indie Bundle</a> has only one pay-what-you-want participant -- <em>Frozen Synapse</em>, the "simultaneous" turn-based strategy game from Mode 7 Games -- but exceeding the average price will transform it from misnomer into a proper collection of games.<br />
<br />
Paying more than the average price ($4.27 at time of writing) will net you another cold bonus in the <em>Humble Frozenbyte Bundle</em>, which offers an assortment of games from the Finnish indie developer. Those include <em>Trine</em>, <em>Shadowgrounds</em>, <em>Shadowgrounds: Survivor</em>, the canceled <em>Jack Claw</em> prototype and a pre-order for the upcoming <em>Splot</em>. Plus: your money can go to Child's Play and The Electronic Frontier Foundation as you see fit.<br />
<br />
Since Humble Bundle games work across multiple platforms (<em>Jack Claw</em> excluded), <em>Frozen Synapse</em> makes its debut on Linux, complete with a free copy of the soundtrack. We'd love a chance to listen to it in isolation, as most of the music gets drowned out by our utterances of "oh shit oh shit" when both players execute their plans at once.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/28/frozen-synapse-stars-in-new-humble-indie-bundle/">Frozen Synapse stars in new Humble Indie Bundle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Sep 2011 14:57:00 EST. Through the power of your awesome taste in games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/12/new-humble-bundle-features-frozenbyte-games-and-prototype/">Frozenbyte's "Humble Bundle"</a> has raised more than $700,000 (the average pay-want-you-want purchase price is <a href="http://www.humblebundle.com/">currently</a> a few cents under $5). As a result of this feat, the studio has released an early, <a href="http://www.splotgame.com/site/splotdemo/">playable demo</a> of its forthcoming game, <em>Splot</em>. The full game will be arriving in "the next 2-3 months" and is already included as a "pre-order bonus" for purchasers of the bundle.<br />
<br />
Moreover, Frozenbyte has added the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/trine"><em>Trine</em></a> level editor to the set, as well as the source codes for <em>Shadowgrounds</em> and <em>Shadowgrounds: Survivor</em>. If you've yet to get in on the bundle, you've still got another four-ish days left to grab it. We hear it's just the right size for an Easter basket.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/new-humble-frozenbyte-bundle-bonuses-unlocked/">New 'Humble Frozenbyte Bundle' bonuses unlocked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Apr 2011 12:00:00 EST. Humble Bundle's third, pay-want-you-want indie games collection, "The Humble Frozenbyte Bundle," is now available from the <a href="http://www.humblebundle.com/">official site</a> for the next fifteen days. As the name implies, the new set features the works of Finnish developer Frozenbyte, including the platformer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/trine/"><em>Trine</em></a> and the top-down shooter series <em>Shadowgrounds</em>.<br />
<br />
The bundle also includes a pre-order license -- no, not for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/trine-2/"><em>Trine 2</em></a><em>,</em> but for <em>Splot</em>, a mysterious (yet adorable-looking) title that's still under development. Most intriguing, Frozenbyte has tossed in the source code for a canceled project called <em>Jack Claw.</em> According to <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/news/humble-frozenbyte-bundle-to-be-released-today">Edge</a>, the developer hopes to crowd-source the game to completion and offer it for free to everyone that helps.<br />
<br />
Like past Humble Bundles, this one is DRM-free and -- with the exception of the Windows-only <em>Jack Claw</em> code -- all the games are available to download for PC, Mac and Linux. Additionally, purchasers are entitled to Steam, Desura and OnLive product keys for compatible titles, as well as the soundtracks for <em>Trine</em> and the <em>Shadowgrounds</em> games.<br />
<br />
Oh! And how could we forget? Any two portions of your purchase can be donated to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/childs-play/">Child's Play Charity</a> and the <a href="http://www.eff.org/">Electronic Frontier Foundation</a>, a public interest nonprofit that protects consumers' digital rights. Check out the Frozenbyte Bundle promotional video after the break to find out more about this most awesome offering -- or just go buy it already!<br />

The original <em>Trine</em> suffered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/22/trine-coming-to-us-psn-today-frozenbyte-answers-the-obvious-que/">delays</a> on PSN and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/12/trine-on-360-likely-will-not-happen/">worse</a> on Xbox 360, and it looks like <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/trine-2"><em>Trine 2</em></a> is continuing this unfortunate tradition, though on a smaller scale. Originally announced for release this spring, <em>Trine 2</em> has been bumped to "late summer," according to a press release by publisher Atlus.<br />
<br />
In order to help us remain calm, and keep our <em>Trine</em> PTSD in check, Atlus sent out a new trailer. Look, it's still happening! Atlus still says it's coming out on PC, PS3, and Xbox. <em>It's going to be okay</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/trine-2-delayed-to-late-summer-this-trailer-is-here-to-help/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Trine 2 delayed to 'late summer,' this trailer is here to help</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/trine-2-delayed-to-late-summer-this-trailer-is-here-to-help/">Trine 2 delayed to 'late summer,' this trailer is here to help</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Mar 2011 19:00:00 EST. OnLive has begun rolling out support for Wi-Fi connections to its cloud gaming service. So sure is the company that it can offer lag free streaming of game content that it is <a href="http://blog.onlive.com/2010/09/15/onlive-wi-fi-hits-the-airwaves/">bringing Wi-Fi support to subscribers before it planned to</a>. Support is still in beta, but most OnLive members are supposed to see the fuctionality available sometime this month. OnLive users with questions can get <a href="http://www.onlive.com/support/wifi">answers from this FAQ</a>.<br />
<br />
Additionally, the company has announced <a href="http://blog.onlive.com/2010/09/15/celebrating-independent-game-developers/">an initiative to support indie games</a> on the service, offering its developer tools and SDK to independent game companies to sell their titles to subscribers. This coming weekend, OnLive is holding <a href="http://www.onlive.com/promo/indie">an "Indie Fest,"</a> offering discounts of up to 75% on great indie games like <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/world-of-goo"><em>World of Goo</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/trine"><em>Trine</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-a-reckless-disregard-for-gravity/"><em>AaaaaAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!</em></a> We would like to know how offering indie games for cheap means you're supporting the developers, but it's cool -- we don't understand how the whole streaming things works so well either.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/15/onlive-now-working-over-wi-fi-announces-indie-fest/">OnLive now working over Wi-Fi, announces 'Indie Fest'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Sep 2010 18:30:00 EST. The list of folks waiting to get into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/onlive">OnLive</a>'s game streaming / insanity portal may be long, but through its partnership with AT&amp;T, the company has just extended its free first year offer through Labor Day (September 6). Additionally, getting in by Labor Day will lock in the optional second year at $4.95/month.<br />
<br />
If that wasn't enough, the service just added puzzle-platformer <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/trine">Trine</a></em> to its growing list of titles available for streaming (it was previously available only as a demo). If you haven't already, sign-ups are still ongoing over at <a href="http://www.onlive.com/signup">OnLive's official site</a> -- and yes, you can still wear white while doing so. <em>For now</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/18/onlive-founding-members-program-extended-until-labor-day-trin/">OnLive 'Founding Members' program extended until Labor Day, Trine now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 Jul 2010 15:30:00 EST. Atlus today distributed a list of titles it will showcase at the (extremely impending) Electronic Entertainment Expo next week. One of the names mentioned on the decidedly vague list of games is <em>Trine 2</em>, the follow-up to Frozenbyte's 2009 PC and PSN <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine">action-platformer</a> -- and to think some folks assumed Atlus was just going to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/08/atlus-and-frozenbyte-tease-2011-digital-distribution-title/">announce an XBLA version </a>of the original game. How silly!<br />
<br />
Also included in the publisher's E3 lineup is another unannounced title: <em>Rock of Ages</em>, which is being developed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zeno-clash"><em>Zeno Clash</em></a> creator Ace Team. Additionally, localized versions of <em>Etrian Odyssey 3: The Drowned City</em> and the PSP port of <em>Knights in the Nightmare </em>will be at the show.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/10/trine-2-revealed-as-part-of-atlus-e3-lineup/">Trine 2 revealed as part of Atlus E3 lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Jun 2010 13:18:00 EST. Atlus has announced it will publish a new digitally distributed game from Frozenbyte. The game is expected to be released sometime in 2011. We know what you're thinking: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine">Trine</a></em> on XBLA, right? Sorry, Xbox 360 owners, but that ain't happening. <br />
<br />
"Indeed, the new game is definitely <em>not</em> 'Trine XBLA' or any <em>Trine</em> port -- that's all in the past now," Frozenbyte's Joel Kinnunen told Joystiq. "I cannot reveal anything else about the new game yet ... I'm pretty sure it will be welcomed with open arms though! And we're really excited to work with Atlus, finally."<br />
<br />
More information on the mystery project will be revealed at E3 next week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/08/atlus-and-frozenbyte-tease-2011-digital-distribution-title/">Atlus and Frozenbyte tease '2011 digital distribution title' (and it's not Trine XBLA)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 16:04:00 EST. This weekend, while you were working on the wizard outfit that will <em>finally</em> complete your cosplay group's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine">Trine</a></em> collective, Steam was busy updating the PC version of the game with free content. According to the <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/3700/">Steam news page</a>, <em>Trine</em> received a free DLC level named "Path to New Dawn" as a post-completion bonus this past Sunday. Additionally, a handful of minor updates were made to the game itself, ranging from new information on "experience and secrets in the inventory menu" to fixing a "respawn bug in [the] Iron Forge level (in co-op) near the first gate." <br />
<br />
Unfortunately, it appears that the release of this new content in the PS3 version isn't a sure thing. "At the moment we're not sure if the free DLC is going to get released on PSN," developer Frozenbyte told Joystiq. "It's not in our direct control but we'd love to get it released and are trying to make that happen -- but at this point it's hard to say how it will play out. Same goes for the price as well." When we pushed for info about any additional DLC in the pipeline, we were told, "There's no immediate plans on any platform. That said, if you have completed <em>Trine</em> on your PC, then I'd suggest completing this extra level as well, collecting all the 10 purple potions ..." You should probably do that if you're in a position to go potion-hunting.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/trine-gets-free-dlc-with-steam-patch-frozenbyte-not-sure-if-i/">Trine gets free DLC with Steam patch, Frozenbyte 'not sure' if it's heading to PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Apr 2010 17:00:00 EST. You may have started to suspect this when it didn't release last year, but it seems that an Xbox 360 version of puzzle/action/platformer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a> is all but dead. Writing on the <a href="http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=15&amp;t=1644&amp;start=25">company's forums</a>, Frozenbyte's Joel Kinnunen said "It's out of our hands but most likely will not happen. Sorry. (We probably won't comment on this any further.)"<br />
<br />
We got a very similar statement from Atlus which told us it's out of the company's hands and probably isn't happening. So if it's out of Atlus' hands and out of Frozenbyte's hands, it would seem the only remaining mitts belong to Microsoft. To be fair though, none of the companies involved would even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/saywhut-trine-dev-says-xbla-release-is-speculation/">confirm it was coming</a>, despite the fact it had once been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/atlus-publishing-trine-on-xbla/">announced by Atlus</a>.<br />
<br />
We've asked Microsoft for some more clarification, but don't be surprised if we never get the full story. The important thing to note here is that if you want to play <em>Trine</em>, it's almost certainly going to require a PC or PS3.<br />

So, was a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/14/trine-hammers-25-off-steam-price-until-aug-19/">25 percent reduction</a> not enough incentive to pick up <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a>? Did you scoff when Impulse only <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/30/impulse-halving-price-on-trine-gratuitous-space-battles-this-we/"><em>halved</em> the price</a>? If your cold, frugal heart was unmoved by these gestures of kindness, perhaps its icy confines will be breached by <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/3432/">Steam's latest deal</a>. You see, from now through Thursday, <em>Trine</em> can be purchased from the service for 75 percent off its retail price. Yes, that means you can pick up Frozenbyte's magical puzzle-platformer for only <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/">five bucks</a>.<br />
<br />
Should <em>that</em> fail to penetrate the stony tomb of loneliness inside your rib cage, well, then there's nothing more to be said.<br />

Co-op platformer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/"><em>Trine</em></a> has received a magical 25 percent price chop on the European PlayStation Network, making it &euro;15. There's currently no word of a stateside drop, but we're aiming for some answers. <br />
<br />
Considering the second delay (following a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/trine-delayed-trying-to-release-on-psn-soon/">three month holdup</a>) between Trine's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/european-psn-releases-for-september-17/">European</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/22/psn-thursday-the-time-for-trine/">US</a> release was about a month, maybe it's the theme that's being used for the discount? Then again, &euro;15 converted to USD is $20, so this "price drop" is actually bringing price parity with <em>Trine</em>'s current cost in the States.<br />

PS3 owners don't have much to download, with <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/numblast"><em>Numblast</em></a> (pictured above) and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/military-madness"><em>Military Madness</em></a> the sole new games on PSN this week. For your retro thrills, <em>Gex</em> crawls out of the Not-Very-Popular-PS1-Mascots Archive. Make sure you get the free <em>LBP</em> birthday costume, and don't miss out on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a> demo (especially if you're on the fence!). PSP owners have a lot more to choose from with the addition of <em>Numblast</em>, <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/dissidia"><em>Dissidia</em></a>, <em>Ghostbusters</em> and a free <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/motorstorm-arctic-edge"><em>MotorStorm: Arctic Edge</em></a> demo.<br /> <br />

After a "<a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/trine-delayed-trying-to-release-on-psn-soon/">last-minute bug</a>" delayed its PSN release back in July, with a <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/trine-stuck-in-quality-assurance-testing-dev-unsure-of-releas/">hold-up in quality assurance</a> in September, it appears that it's finally time for tryin' <span style="font-style: italic;">Trine</span>. Then again, with the way <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/critter-crunch"><span style="font-style: italic;">Critter Crunch</span></a> (demo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/16/critter-crunch-consumer-consumption-saddening-demo-releasing-ne/">out now</a>) sold, it appears folks are into their big holiday retail titles at the moment. Admit it, you're playing <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/uncharted-2"><span style="font-style: italic;">Uncharted 2</span></a> for the third time <span style="font-style: italic;">right now</span>. The PSN puzzle-platformer was supposed to be out in <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/trine-delayed-trying-to-release-on-psn-soon/">July</a>, before the PC version, but it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/trine-casts-a-spell-on-steam-today/">failed</a> to meet either of those deadlines. So why is it three months late?<br /><br />Essentially, as Frozenbyte has said, the delay can be attributed to stringent <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/trine-stuck-in-quality-assurance-testing-dev-unsure-of-releas/">testing</a> for a console release, combined with a long wait for approval of every test -- with just a <em>dash</em> of Sony marketing strategy. Frozenbyte's Joel Kinnunen has described the issue in a lengthy <a href="http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=15&amp;t=2156">forum post</a>. <br /><br />"The reason why the US version is so late is a bit of a similar situation as the overall delay," Kinnunen wrote. "We had the US version done around the same time as the European version and I think the publisher submitted it swiftly after hearing the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/15/trine-ps3-due-this-week-in-europe/">European version</a> was 'ok.'" After <em>that</em> delay, Kinnunen believes, it was Sony's desire to "give the game a good window with regards to other PSN titles/content" that kept it off the US PlayStation Store until today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/22/trine-coming-to-us-psn-today-frozenbyte-answers-the-obvious-que/">Trine coming to US PSN today; Frozenbyte answers the obvious question</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 18:00:00 EST. All the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/trine-stuck-in-quality-assurance-testing-dev-unsure-of-releas/"><em>tryin'</em></a> is over -- <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a> is <em>coming</em> to America. But is it too late? The PSN title looks to finally overcome major delays, only to find itself releasing amidst <em>Uncharted 2</em>, <em>Borderlands</em> and <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank</em>. Good luck, ye brave platformer.<br /><br /><em>Trine</em> will try <em>and find</em> its way to the North American PlayStation Store on Thursday, October 22. No word on price yet, but the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/european-psn-releases-for-september-17/#ps3">European version</a> launched at &euro;19.99 (about $29); and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/26/pc-trine-to-retail-sept-8-psn-cries-single-tear/">currently available</a> PC version is listed for $20.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/02/trine-finally-gets-us-psn-release-date-october-22/">Trine (finally) gets US PSN release date: October 22</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Oct 2009 13:31:00 EST. Though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a>'s lengthy delay has become the butt of many a tactless joke, European PlayStation 3 owners can finally access Frozenbyte's physics-based platformer <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/european-psn-releases-for-september-17/">today</a> -- the pleasant result of a wizard, a warrior and a thief walking into a cross-media bar. As consolation, the trio have brought along a Platinum Trophy, a rarity among downloadable PlayStation Network games.<br /><br />"Trine has a Platinum Trophy because it's a fairly large game for a downloadable title (and dare I say great quality)," Frozenbyte PR manager Joel Kinnunen told Joystiq. "I think all the heart and soul we poured into the game fused into a platinum core, so maybe that's another reason." The virtual reward, obtained by earning all lower-tier Trophies, is generally reserved for the PS3's retail releases.<br /><br />You may suspect <em>Trine</em> to become one of them -- the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/26/pc-trine-to-retail-sept-8-psn-cries-single-tear/">PC version</a> made it to retail in North America, after all -- but Kinnunen ruled out any immediate plans for a Blu-ray release. <br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/trines-platinum-trophy-is-all-heart-and-soul/">Trine's Platinum Trophy is all heart and soul</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Sep 2009 15:00:00 EST. We've been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine"><span style="font-style: italic;">Trine</span></a> really hard to come up with a clever statement for this week's European PSN releases, but we've come up short. Our usual <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/commanders-challenge">Command</a> </span>of the English language has failed us -- a fact which will keep us up all through the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/14/batman-arkham-asylums-insane-night-dlc-detailed/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Insane Night</span></a>.<br /><br />... <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/trine-ps3-out-in-europe-this-week">Eurogamer</a> reports -- and Sony Europe has confirmed with Joystiq as well -- that the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/trine-delayed-trying-to-release-on-psn-soon/">long-awaited</a> puzzle platformer, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/trine">Trine</a></em>, is set to arrive on the European PlayStation Store this week. It appears developer Frozenbyte may have finally worked out its <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/trine-stuck-in-quality-assurance-testing-dev-unsure-of-releas/">quality assurance testing issues</a> with Sony.<br /><br />We've contacted Sony America and are still awaiting an official response about the PS3 version's release in North America. Keep an eye on this week's PSN Thursday updates for the final word.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Sony America hasn't made an official statement; however, a member of developer Frozenbyte has stated on the company <a href="http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=15&amp;t=1857&amp;sid=5278f3725bcc6ae105355634786aa088&amp;start=100">forum</a>, "All I know is that US release is not tomorrow."<br /><br />[Thanks, B. Remember that game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a>? The summer is quickly coming to a close, and we've yet to see the innovative multiplayer platformer hit the PlayStation Network. What happened to the game, and why isn't it out yet?<br /><br />Develpoer Frozenbyte's CEO Lauri Hyv&auml;rinen spoke with <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2009/09/gamesetinterview_talking_trine.php">GameSetWatch</a> and said the game has been stalled due to Sony's rigorous QA testing. "On consoles it takes weeks, even months if the game gets stuck in the technical quality testing stuff. It's not anybody's fault really, and it guarantees a better end product, but the time it takes can be frustrating."<br /><br />Frustration? We certainly didn't notice that in our comments section! Unfortunately, Hyv&auml;rinen doesn't have much to console us. According to Frozenbyte, they're as in the dark about the release as we are: "I think we are waiting for the PSN release just as much as gamers out there." Hopefully, <em>Trine</em> will see release soon -- before the holiday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/modern-warfare-2">big</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/uncharted-2">guns</a> start hogging all our attention.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/trine-stuck-in-quality-assurance-testing-dev-unsure-of-releas/">Trine 'stuck' in Quality Assurance testing, dev unsure of release date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 21:00:00 EST. While PS3 users are <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/trine-delayed-trying-to-release-on-psn-soon/">still waiting for the PSN release</a> of thiefy-wizardy-knighty-platformer <em>Trine</em>, SouthPeak has announced that the PC version of the game will soon be headed to retail. The retail version of the game will land on shelves September 8 -- peep its box art above.<br /><br />So, if you've been waiting for a chance to own a copy of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine">Trine</a> </em>that actually comes with a box, you're wait is almost over. If, on the other hand, you've been waiting to download the game on a certain, special console, you'll have to continue settling for nothing but deep sighs and long, wistful looks out the window.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/26/pc-trine-to-retail-sept-8-psn-cries-single-tear/">PC Trine to retail Sept. 8, PSN cries single tear</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Aug 2009 20:00:00 EST. Multiplayer puzzle-platformer <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a> is enjoying a <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/2731/">25-percent discount</a> on Steam for a limited time. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/">Trine</a></em> will not make it onto the PlayStation Network this week, due to the discovery of a "last-minute bug." <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/697826/Trine-Wont-Arrive-On-PlayStation-Network-Tomorrow-Release-Date-Fuzzy.html">G4tv</a> reports that Frozenbyte confirmed the delay and noted that it can't verify a release for next week either. The best answer the company could give is that the game will arrive soon.<br /><br />Fret not, for if you have a PC, the game is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/trine-casts-a-spell-on-steam-today/">already available</a>. No, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/">Trine</a></em> isn't available on PSN ... yet! However, a brand new trailer on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/07/09/an-introduction-to-trine-coming-soon-to-psn/#more-13077">PlayStation.blog</a> makes us wish we could play it on our PS3s right now. (Note: You can buy it on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/trine-casts-a-spell-on-steam-today/">Steam</a> ... but it'll cost you some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/29/trine-psn-costs-half-of-pc-version-scheduled-for-july-release/">more</a>.) This new footage focuses on the co-op gameplay and how multiple players can take advantage of the physics system to help each other traverse the game's 16 levels. Unfortunately, there's no release date revealed on the blog, other than a simple "coming soon." Boo. Soon doesn't mean <em>today</em>, does it?<br /><br />See the trailer after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/new-trine-trailer-focuses-on-physics-based-co-op-gameplay/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Trine trailer focuses on physics-based co-op gameplay</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/new-trine-trailer-focuses-on-physics-based-co-op-gameplay/">New Trine trailer focuses on physics-based co-op gameplay</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 14:15:00 EST. To be clear, Frozenbyte spokesman Joel Kinnunen wasn't saying that the company's fantasy action platformer <em>itself</em> is a mess, but everything surrounding it -- like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/29/trine-psn-costs-half-of-pc-version-scheduled-for-july-release/">price point disparity</a> between regions and territories -- has become quite the kerfuffle.<br /><br />The problem, apparently, is that <em>Trine</em> started life as PC game before migrating to PSN and (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/saywhut-trine-dev-says-xbla-release-is-speculation/">maybe</a>) XBLA. While that may be good for getting the game to as many people as possible, it's not ideal for a game launch.<br /><br />"<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/">Trine</a></em> as a project is a big mess," Kinnunen said, "as opposed to <em>Trine</em> as a game, which is pretty sweet. Ultimately it's the game part that really matters and helps us sleep at night, though."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/03/trine-dev-project-is-a-big-mess/">Trine dev: Project is 'a big mess'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 11:00:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine">Trine</a> </em>is a game with a lot of buzz surrounding it, and for good reason. It's an ambitious title, to say the least, and we're glad to report that the game will be available on <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/">Steam</a> today for your downloading pleasure. The game's a bit on the pricier side ($29.99), but provides plenty of bang for those bucks, including three different playable characters, 15 different levels, and co-op for up to three players. Oh, and if you pre-ordered, don't forget about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/28/pre-order-trine-on-steam-get-shadowgrounds-for-free/">your free copy of <em>Shadowgrounds</em></a>.<br /><br />Just do us one favor before you download: Make sure you put on <a href="http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/text/bloodninja">your robe and wizard hat</a>. While we were ready to believe that online co-op in the Xbox Live Arcade release of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/">Trine</a></em> was "speculation," we'll admit, we were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/saywhut-trine-dev-says-xbla-release-is-speculation/">pretty taken aback to hear</a> the developer refer to the XBLA release itself as "speculation" as well. While Trine's would-be XBLA publisher at Atlus issued a terse "no comment," we got a hold of the developers at Frozenbyte, whose Lauri Hyv&auml;rinen had this to say: <br /><blockquote>
<div align="left">An XBLA version of <em>Trine</em> is a possibility but nothing more at present time. We would love to have <em>Trine</em> on XBLA and we've partnered with Atlus to make it happen, but it needs Microsoft's approval and there are other factors as well. So it may happen or it may not, that's really the current situation. Everything else ranging from release date to features is just speculation and isn't based on any facts.<br /><br />As soon as we know more we will also inform everyone else :)<br /></div>
</blockquote>So, there you have it. Microsoft needs to approve the game and Frozenbyte has to address "other factors" (we don't think online co-op is required - <em>Bionic Commando Rearmed</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/27/capcom-no-online-play-for-bionic-commando-rearmed-the-right-c/">lacks online support</a> for its co-op mode). But don't keep your feelings bottled up inside (you can get sick that way, y'know?). Share them with us in our handy poll, which is awaiting your input just after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/frozenbyte-responds-xbla-version-of-trine-is-a-possibility/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Frozenbyte responds: 'XBLA version of Trine is a possibility'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/frozenbyte-responds-xbla-version-of-trine-is-a-possibility/">Frozenbyte responds: 'XBLA version of Trine is a possibility'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 13:55:00 EST. Anatomy of confusion: <br />
<ol>
    <li>At E3 earlier this month, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/atlus-publishing-trine-on-xbla/">Atlus announces</a> that they'll be publishing Frozenbyte's very impressive co-op platformer <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/">Trine</a></em> on Xbox Live Arcade.</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.primotechnology.com/2009/06/04/e3-09-trine-coming-to-xbox-live-arcade-courtesy-of-atlus-supports-online-cooperative-play/">Primotech</a> is purportedly told by an Atlus representative at E3 that the Xbox Live Arcade release will feature online co-op as well as offline. Neither the PC nor PSN versions, both of which are being released much sooner than the XBLA version, will feature online co-op.</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59321">Shacknews</a> links Primotech's assertion, and Joystiq in turn links that.</li>
    <li>Developer Frozenbyte takes to the forums to clear the confusion, stating that "The XBLA version and its features is just speculation at this point."</li>
</ol>
Wait, what? "The XBLA version ... is just speculation at this point"?<br /><br />Developer <a href="http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=15&amp;t=1708#p7451">fb_joel writes</a>, "... as developers, we would love as many people as possible to be able to play our games and therefore I hope Trine will eventually find its way to XBLA too." So, not only is Frozenbyte stating that online co-op in the Xbox Live Arcade version is "speculation" but that the XBLA release itself is speculation as well! We bet Atlus wishes someone <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/atlus-publishing-trine-on-xbla/">told them that at E3</a>!<br /><br />The developer later said, "On the actual topic I will not comment as no-one knows anything about XBLA at this point, and I really hope when some people do know, I would be one of them." Yeah, we're right there with you. <a href="http://www.gamerbytes.com/2009/06/e3_atlus_to_bring_trine_to_xbo.php">GamerBytes reported from E3</a> that Trine "hasn't been given the official nod from Microsoft for concept approval, and therefore Atlus are unable to send out press releases or other information about the game." That may explain why, when contacted for this story, Atlus responded with a very terse "no comment." We've reached out to Frozenbyte as well, and will update this story accordingly.<br /><br />[<strong>Update</strong>: We've heard from Frozenbyte's Lauri Hyv&auml;rinen and here's what they say: "An XBLA version of <em>Trine</em> is a possibility but nothing more at present time. We would love to have <em>Trine</em> on XBLA and we've partnered with Atlus to make it happen, but it needs Microsoft's approval and there are other factors as well. So it may happen or it may not, that's really the current situation. Everything else ranging from release date to features is just speculation and isn't based on any facts. As soon as we know more we will also inform everyone else :)<br /><br />So, there you have it. <em>Trine</em> on XBLA is not a sure thing. There, there ... it'll be okay.]<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59321">Shacknews</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/30/saywhut-trine-dev-says-xbla-release-is-speculation/">Saywhut? By now, you're probably familiar with the ambitious, multiplayer puzzle-platformer, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/">Trine</a></em>. <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59321">Shacknews</a> is reporting that the upcoming PC version of the game will have an "official" price of $40, with <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/">Steam pre-orders</a> available for a discounted $30. (Check out a downloadable demo at <a href="http://www.bigdownload.com/games/trine/pc/trine-demo/">BigDownload</a>. <strong>Update:</strong> We received a clarification from SouthPeak, publisher of the PC game. All versions of the PC game, retail and digital, will cost $30.) Those who want to experience <em>Trine</em> in the most affordable way possible will want to download the PSN version of the game, priced at $20.<br /><br />Obviously, that's a rather high price point for a downloadable game. However, developer <a href="http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=15&amp;t=1662">Frozenbyte</a> says the high production values merit the sticker tag. "<em>Trine</em> is far from a game created by a solo hero developer (we have over 20 employees and <em>Trine</em> has contributions from a double amount of people) ... we are very confident that we can deliver a full retail experience with <em>Trine</em>."<br /><br />Our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/joystiq-hands-on-trine-psn/">early impressions</a> of the game suggest Frozenbyte is right. We'd much rather buy this than, say, the equally priced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/04/joystiq-review-watchmen-the-end-is-nigh/"><em>Watchmen: The End is Nigh</em></a>. While an official PSN date isn't set, the publisher is expecting a July release. An <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/atlus-publishing-trine-on-xbla/">Xbox 360 version</a> of the game, which <strike>will support online co-op</strike> (a feature not included in the initial PC or PSN releases), is also in the works. [<strong>Update 2</strong>: Developer <a href="http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=15&amp;t=1708#p7451">Frozenbyte has said</a> that news of online co-op support is "just speculation at this point."]<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/29/trine-psn-costs-half-of-pc-version-scheduled-for-july-release/">Trine PSN costs 2/3 of PC version, scheduled for July release [Update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 14:45:00 EST. Usually, whenever we're offered free games as a pre-order bonus, there's some common theme between the reserved title and the aforementioned playable incentive. Perhaps the bonus game is the prequel to the upcoming release, or at least belongs in the same genre as the pre-ordered title. However, a recent deal on Steam seems to go against this convention -- <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/">if you pre-order</a> the upcoming fantasy action-platformer <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Trine/">Trine</a></em> on Steam's download service, you get the frantic top-down shooter <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/2500/"><em>Shadowgrounds</em></a> for free.<br /><br />Okay, so they're both made by indie developer Frozenbyte, but still -- there's a wide chasm between the worlds of <em>Smash TV</em> and ... well, we can't think of a pre-existing game to compare <em>Trine</em> to. <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_(series)">Super Ultima-rio Bros</a>?</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/28/pre-order-trine-on-steam-get-shadowgrounds-for-free/">Pre-order Trine on Steam, get Shadowgrounds for free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 28 Jun 2009 00:00:00 EST. The indie, fantasy action-platformer that is FrozenByte's <em>Trine </em>has already impressed us <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/joystiq-hands-on-trine-psn/">during hands-on time with it</a>. Today, SouthPeak announced that it will be publishing a PC version of the game in the US so that non-console gamers can experience its unique blend of on-the-fly object creation -- both for puzzle-solving and attacks/defense -- and side-scrolling gameplay for themselves.<br /><br />Supporting three-player co-op, the game is due to hit PC, PSN and XBLA (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/atlus-publishing-trine-on-xbla/">the latter via Atlus</a>) in late summer. PC owners don't have to wait for a taste of the game, though, as the San Francisco Examiner turned us on to the fact that a demo is <a href="http://www.bigdownload.com/games/trine/pc/trine-demo/">available now from BigDownload</a>. If you want a better idea of the console version's gameplay ... plug in a 360 controller and BAM!<br /><br />[Thanks, theineffablebob!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/26/southpeak-bringing-trine-to-pc-demo-out-now/">SouthPeak bringing Trine to PC, demo out now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Jun 2009 07:00:00 EST. E3 was <em>br&uuml;tal!</em> If you blinked, for a <span style="font-style: italic;">split/second,</span> you missed something. Even if you were <span style="font-style: italic;">trine</span> to keep up, it was a <span style="font-style: italic;">blur</span> -- staying <span style="font-style: italic;">a.wake</span> like that, you only pushed yourself to the <span style="font-style: italic;">brink</span> of your own <span style="font-style: italic;">dark void</span>. That's where Joystiq comes in; to <span style="font-style: italic;">crackdown</span> on the madness; to <span style="font-style: italic;">reach</span> out ... with <em>conviction</em> -- phew! <span style="font-style: italic;">Crysis</span> averted.<br />
<br />
We've scoured the <span style="font-style: italic;">dark corners</span> and survived the <span style="font-style: italic;">inferno</span> to piece together this roundup of all things Xbox at E3. Why? <span style="font-style: italic;">Just 'cause</span> we love you. So, draw <span style="font-style: italic;">nier</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">shift</span> your eyes past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/e3-2009-highlights-the-xbox-roundup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E3 2009 highlights: The Xbox roundup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/e3-2009-highlights-the-xbox-roundup/">E3 2009 highlights: The Xbox roundup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 11:45:00 EST. We were surprised upon entering Atlus's booth to find <em>Trine</em> running on ... well, a PC, but it's supposed to represent an XBLA <em>version</em>, just because the actual XBLA game isn't ready to show. Despite the game not being a super-niche RPG, Atlus has seen fit to secure the publishing rights.<br /><br />The XBLA version of <em>Trine</em> should be out "later this year," according to Atlus, at some unspecified time that happens to fall after the "<a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/discover-ten-new-trine-images/">later this year</a>" release for the PSN and PC versions. <br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/atlus-publishing-trine-on-xbla/">Atlus publishing Trine on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Jun 2009 02:07:00 EST. <em>Trine</em> stunned us with its innovative gameplay and inspired visuals. Looks as though this latest batch of images only furthers our passion for the upcoming PSN platformer. One look at the gallery, and you too will be just as surprised as we are -- who are these developers? Where did they come from? How is it possible for a relatively unknown team to push such an impressively designed game to PSN? We're certain some black magic must be involved -- and we're not complaining.<br /><br /><em>Trine</em> is expected to hit PC and PSN later this year.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/discover-ten-new-trine-images/">Discover ten new Trine images</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 11:00:00 EST. You may not know Ari Pulkkinen, but PS3 fans certainly know his work. Pulkkinen is a Finnish musician who has worked on <em>Shadowgrounds</em> and PSN fan-favorite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-stardust-hd"><em>Super Stardust HD</em></a>. He's working on the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trine"><em>Trine</em></a> for PSN and PC.<br /><br />"My objective with the <em>Trine</em> OST was to make something different and unique that would really capture the game's story, with its little twisted and humorous turns," Pulkkinen said. You can listen to the game's main theme right here -- let us know if you recognize some of its Finnish and Slavic folk inspirations.<br /><center> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" application="" x-shockwave="" -flash="" data="http://www.weblogsinc.com/media/audio_player.swf" height="24" width="330"> <param value="http://www.weblogsinc.com/media/audio_player.swf" name="movie"> <param value="soundFile=http://podcasts.aolcdn.com/ps3fanboy/podcasts/ari_pulkkinen-trine_theme.mp3" name="FlashVars"> <param value="high" name="quality"> <param value="false" name="menu"> <param value="transparent" name="wmode"></object></center><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/super-stardust-hd-composer-working-on-trine/">Super Stardust HD composer working on Trine soundtrack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 May 2009 11:00:00 EST. The initial gameplay trailers for <em>Trine</em> teased some incredible potential. Yet, in spite of our excitement for <em>Trine</em>, we couldn't have predicted how engrossing the title would be. Even in its early state, we were mesmerized by the game's impeccable presentation and accessible, innovative gameplay. Although it's a PlayStation Network game from an independent studio, the production values of <em>Trine</em> are rather surprising.<br /><br />The game begins with a rather charming narrator telling the tale of a thief looking to steal a valuable, guarded treasure. Here, a simple tutorial teaches you the basics of using the thief's grappling hook, and bow and arrow. She's able to easily traverse the environment, swinging across large gaps quickly and smoothly. All the while, the narrator continues telling his tale; it's a perfect blend of story and gameplay that helps <em>Trine</em> capture a truly whimsical feel. Eventually, the thief lays her hands on the treasure ...<br /><br />The screen fades to black and you then take control of a wizard. You'll learn to use his ability to telepathically pick up objects with the right analog stick -- and not only can he move objects around, but he can create blocks by drawing a square in the air. Once again, the narrator continues speaking as you make your way to the same room as the thief did.<br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/joystiq-hands-on-trine-psn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq hands-on: Trine (PSN)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/joystiq-hands-on-trine-psn/">Joystiq hands-on: Trine (PSN)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 May 2009 15:30:00 EST. A newly released trailer showcases the game's co-op play, where multiple characters will have to assist each other to traverse the environment. The production values are rather impressive, certainly exceeding our expectations for an indie downloadable game.<br /><br />The co-op play will be, according to <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/psn-game-trine-here-in-june">Eurogamer</a>, jump-in and jump-out, making for an easy multiplayer experience. <em>Trine</em> will release on PlayStation Network and PC in June.
