Doing so could win you a PlayStation 3, courtesy of Codemasters. As part of their European marketing push for Turning Point: Fall of Liberty a facebook profile has been set up for Mario Contasino - the New York taxi driver who accidentally ran over Winston Churchill in 1931. In our reality Churchill survived to become one of Britain's greatest Prime Ministers, but in the world of Turning Point Churchill died on that day and World War II played out very differently as a result.

So, add Mario Contasino as a friend on Facebook and you'll automagically be entered to win a PS3. It's as easy as that. Entrants must live in the UK and be sixteen or older. Turning Point is released in Europe this coming Friday.
Turning Point viral marketing campaign could net you a PS3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 15:00:00 EST. Filmmaker Kevin Smith once responded to the negative reviews of his heartfelt drama Jersey Girl by stating that the film "wasn't for critics." It was a comment that attracted the attention of Penny Arcade, and even spawned some of their most memorable characters. So imagine how our favorite webcomic entrepreneurs will react to the recent comments made by Spark Unlimited CEO Craig Allen, who believes that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is being reviewed the wrong way.

Responding to recent unfavorable reviews of Turning Point, Allen stated that the game was never meant for "core gamers," and that those looking at the title with a critical eye are not the intended audience. According to him, the alternate-universe World War II FPS is a "high concept idea," enjoyable by those who just want to have fun, and aren't looking for innovation or technical breakthroughs.

Despite his defense of the title, Allen states the team's next game, Legendary, will address many of the problems gamers and critics had with Turning Point, but it won't necessarily be a "better" game. Because Turning Point wasn't actually "bad." Apparently.
Turning Point is too 'high concept' for reviewers, says CEO originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 07 Mar 2008 12:00:00 EST. And if you're like us, while killing Nazi scum we couldn't shake our curiosity as we wondered where exactly this "Big Apple" was located. We just didn't know if this apple reference was simply a nickname for the city or if there was a giant piece of fruity goodness hidden somewhere. And thanks to the video above, we now know that NYC does in fact house an abnormally large apple. Check it out for yourself and we think you'll agree that it's refreshing to see that Fall of Liberty developer Spark Unlimited has a sense of humor and respect for giant pieces of produce.

[Thanks, Justin]
Video: Take a bite out of Turning Point's giant apple originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 04 Mar 2008 14:00:00 EST. I'm taking over Richard's "Shipping this week" duties simply because he's a busy man and I'm a kind hearted soul. So, here comes the informative bits ...

This week's Xbox 360 releases aren't plentiful or overly stellar, but they do have one grammatical thing in common. A colon. Yes sir, a colon brings all three of this week's releases together under one unified umbrella of release week unification ... of sorts. It's the punctuation binder that is what eggs are to meatloaf. Without it, this week would be a chaotic mess of randomness. So, be thankful for the colon and be thankful for this week's new Xbox 360 releases. Game on.

This 1.26GB game demo is all about sharing its demo love with all Xbox Live members and can be downloaded in all Live regions, which includes our friends in Europe. Nice! If you're willing to put a landing target on your 360's HDD you'll not only be able to download the demo and stop the Third Reich's invasion of New York, but will also bring about world peace. They may not admit it aloud, but the one secret wish of most game designers is that the Nazis could have perfected time travel. Think of it: Splinter cells of the Third Reich that could be at any point or any place in history! Game design would be a simple as "Copy All Nazis", "Load 'Woodstock'", "Paste All Nazis". Instant game! Without the crutch of Nazi time travel to lean on, Codemasters has done then next best thing and created an alternate history where the Nazis won World War II in Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

Now, you can see for yourself how easy game developers could have it if the Nazis were still kicking around with a demo for the game that just arrived on Xbox Live. Hopefully it can scratch the itch that Woodshock: Reich and Roll never will.
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty demo goes Live originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 23 Jan 2008 08:45:00 EST.
