After only four and a half years, it looks like Nintendo is finally ready to introduce a line of budget titles in North America. <a href="http://kotaku.com/#!5797802/and-so-we-enter-the-wii-budget-age-with-the-arrival-of-wii-select">Kotaku</a> reports that the "Wii Select" line will launch alongside the newly discounted Wii, which is rumored to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/12/rumor-nintendo-dropping-wii-price-to-150-on-may-15th/">drop to $150</a> two weeks from now. The first titles reported to be part of the $20 lineup include <em>The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</em>, <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em>, <em>Mario Super Sluggers </em>and <em>Wii Sports</em>.<br />
<br />
Yes, Wii Sports is supposedly being removed from its position as the longstanding pack-in for Wii console bundles. Taking the bundle's place will be a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mario-kart-wii"><em>Mario Kart Wii</em></a> bundle, which will be sold at the rumored $150 price point.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/03/rumor-wii-select-budget-line-launching-this-month/">Rumor: 'Wii Select' budget line launching this month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 May 2011 11:00:00 EST. The talented musicians from Zelda Reorchestrated are asking the gaming community for a bit of help in realizing their most ambitious project to date: a two-and-a-half-hour, 40-track compilation of orchestral pieces inspired by the score for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess"><em>Twilight Princess</em></a>. The group needs a full-sized choir to lend its vocal talents on some of the songs, but unfortunately, hiring a full-sized choir is a super expensive thing to do.<br />
<br />
You can find out more details about the project, and make a helpful contribution, over on the <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/539182438/a-choir-for-twilight-symphony">ZREO Kickstarter page</a>. There's some sweet incentives for donors too, including a personal arrangement of your favorite Nintendo theme song. (We'll take <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hksHgkad28A">the ending theme</a> to <em>Little Nemo</em>, thanks.)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/24/zelda-reorchestrated-seeking-donations-for-twilight-symphony/">Zelda Reorchestrated seeking donations for 'Twilight Symphony'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Feb 2011 03:00:00 EST. The 15-inch figure, shipping in the second quarter of 2011, is available to order in two options: a $330 "regular" edition or a $350 "exclusive" edition, which adds a light-up feature to Midna's hair.<br />
<br />
If you pre-order a statue before January 1, you can get it a <em>little</em> cheaper. A <a href="https://www.first4figures.com/newsletters/52a078249c49716e390f5f7b5be5a54a-nl14.htm">F4F newsletter</a> on the topic features pre-order coupon codes good for $25 off the regular version or $30 off the "exclusive" glowy one. If you use a coupon, you can also maybe convince yourself that you're being thrifty when buying a $300-plus toy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/first-4-figures-reveals-wolf-link-and-midna-statue/">First 4 Figures reveals Wolf Link and Midna statue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Dec 2010 03:00:00 EST. No, really. Nintendo of Korea has <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.kr/Wii/software/software_list.php">posted</a> a release date for <em>Twilight Princess:</em> August 27, 2009. Let us never, <em>ever</em> complain about a localization delay again. Unless, of course, you're reading this from South Korea, in which case, we <em>feel</em> for you. Actually, we can't. We have no idea what it feels like to wait for a <em>Zelda</em> game knowing <em>everyone</em> else can and did scoop up the game and already beat it, and probably lent it to friends to beat, and then traded it in ... only to buy it back ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-hack">to hack</a> their Wiis and maybe beat <em>again</em>, and then sold it off -- <em>for good</em> ... years ago. No, that level of agony -- <em>*shudder*</em> -- is unknown to our fragile beings.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=89266">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/twilight-princess-korean-localization-dated-for-release/">Twilight Princess Korean localization dated for release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Jul 2009 19:15:00 EST. If someone suggested the notion of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-princess">Link and Midna</a> cosplay to you -- wolf Link, that is -- you'd probably think Midna would be the more lifelike one of the pair, yes? Not this time, buddy. No, while this little Midna is great, down to the details and the little legs, it's the wolf who really shines ... especially when you get to the video after the break.<br /><br />But we'll give you a hint: there's a person in there. <em>Wolf Link is made of people</em>.<br /><br />deviantARTist LilleahWest calls this pair of costumes a work in progress, but if it gets much more accurate, we're not sure we can handle it. Also? This wolfsuit was made in only twelve days. That's dedication.<br /><br />

In the list of 22 titles, Colin includes a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=legend+of+zelda"><em>Legend of Zelda</em></a>, as well as a new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=princess+peach">Princess Peach</a> </em>game for the DS.<br /><br />This is just speculation on his part, but considering what Nintendo has said about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">the teams</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/miyamoto-wants-big-new-ideas-in-next-zelda/">their work</a> on a new <em>Zelda</em>, we wouldn't be surprised if we finally saw something on the game next year. Of course, you have to consider how long it took Nintendo to put out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-princess"><em>Twilight Princess</em></a>. We're just hoping it doesn't take that long for the next game.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/23/analyst-legend-of-zelda-returning-in-2009/">Analyst: Legend of Zelda returning in 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Dec 2008 12:48:00 EST. <br />As co-director of a game that many consider the greatest of all time, you'd think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=eiji+aonuma&amp;invocationType=wl-wii&amp;searchsubmit=">Eiji Aonuma</a> would be content to put his feet up and soak up the praise. It's what <em>we</em> would do, but that's probably why we'll never create anything as awe-inspiring as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/ocarina-gets-a-spit-shine/"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a>.<br /><br />Speaking to <em>Nintendo Power</em> about his past work on most of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>Zelda</em></a>s since <em>Ocarina of Time</em>, Aonuma insists that he can't stop making the games, because he's yet to beat what he achieved with <em>Ocarina</em>. "I'm happy that a title I worked on some time ago remains highly praised to this day," he says, "but that also shows how none of the subsequent games in the series have surpassed it."<br /><br />He adds that this alone may be what motivates him to make more <em>Zelda</em> and keep putting more happy in our heads. A revealing insight into the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/miyamoto-slightly-critical-of-twilight-princess-super-mario-g/">perfectionist mindset</a> of a top game designer!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976796"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__15__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__14__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__13__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976788"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__12__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976786"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__9__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/26/aonuma-cant-quit-zelda-until-he-beats-ocarina-of-time/">Aonuma can't quit Zelda until he beats Ocarina of Time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Nov 2008 15:28:00 EST. In typical fashion, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/17/nintendo-unleashes-wii-menu-3-4-updates-tos-and-removes-save-fi/">latest Wii Menu update</a> (released only seven days ago) was designed to render the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-hack/">Twilight Hack</a> useless. Also in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/twilight-hack-protection-already-beaten/">typical</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/22/welcome-back-twilight-hack/">fashion</a>, it's already been beaten, proving yet again that you can't keep a good hack down.<br /><br />While some in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/homebrew/">homebrew</a> community predicted that the 3.4 update would sound the death knell for the Twilight Hack, Team Twiizers has now written and released new, Wii Menu 3.4-compatible code (though as usual, updating your Wii isn't recommended unless it's an absolute must).<br /><br /><a href="http://hackmii.com/2008/11/rise-of-the-dead/">HackMii</a> has a link to the new file and all necessary instructions, so let the brewing of homes recommence!<br /><br />

Despite being the most expensive item <em>ever</em> in the European <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/club-nintendo">Club Nintendo</a> shop (15,000 Star Points, thank you), it sold out in the blink of a Goron's eye.<br /><br />How rare is this, exactly? Our guess: pretty damn rare. We've <em>never</em> seen one on eBay. But now it's back in stock, chintzier than ever, and ready for some lucky collectors to swipe. It's still 15,000 Star Points, and we suspect this latest batch will go quickly, so long as somebody out there has resisted splurging their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/club-nintendo-awesomeness/1075104/">Star Points on Wii Points</a>.<br /><br />How about you, North Americans? Would something like this catch your eye when Club Nintendo launches in your neck of the woods <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/15/first-club-nintendo-u-s-details-unexpectedly-awesome/">later this year</a>?<br /><br />

In an interesting chat with <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/10/29/shigeru-miyamoto-punchout-mario-zelda-portal/">MTV Multiplayer</a>'s Stephen Totilo, Miyamoto admits that he, like most rational human beings, thought <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/portal"><em>Portal</em></a> was "an amazing game." <br /><br />Games that go without the "amazing" label? <em>The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</em>, which the Mario maker describes as "not a bad game, by any means," but one that felt "like there was something missing." And while Miyamoto submits that <em>Super Mario Galaxy</em> did "some things that were very new and were very unique," he ultimately feels that some elements seemed "somewhat conservative."<br /><br />And it's at this point that we strongly advise you to open an umbrella or don a durable raincoat. <br />MTV's Stephen Totilo has posted the third and final part of a lengthy interview with Shigeru Miyamoto. Though the bulk of the article was lent to discussion of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/24/miyamoto-guitar-hero-beatmania-are-cover-band-titles/"><em>Wii Music</em></a>, the pair broached other subjects, including what Miyamoto perceives as a lack of innovation in titles such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-princess"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-galaxy"><em>Super Mario Galaxy</em></a>.<br /><br />Though <em>Twilight Princess</em> was "not a bad game," Shiggy felt there was "something missing," and was also semi-criticial of the previously untouchable <em>Galaxy</em>, which he thought was "very new and [...] very unique," but "somewhat conservative in terms of how far we branched out with design." If we may mount the Wii Fanboy soapbox for a moment, we'd concur that <em>Twilight Princess</em> was far from being the best <em>Zelda</em>, but found <em>Galaxy</em> to be consistently creative and entertaining.<br /><br />Elsewhere, Miyamoto referred to the "next <em>Galaxy</em>," which may or may not mean we'll be getting another Mario-in-space game (we wouldn't read too much into it), and that he loves <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/portal"><em>Portal</em></a>. Nintendo fanboys we might be, but we can probably all appreciate that last statement.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976796"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__15__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__14__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__13__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976788"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__12__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976786"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__9__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/miyamoto-slightly-critical-of-twilight-princess-super-mario-g/">Miyamoto (slightly) critical of Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 16:21:00 EST. <br />The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>Zelda</em></a> team is currently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-explains-mario-and-zelda-teams-are-working-on-new-games/">beavering away</a> at the next game in the series, and it sounds like the title might introduce a different spin on the usual <em>Zelda</em> formula.<br /><br />Shigeru Miyamoto has told IGN that the <em>Zelda </em>franchise requires "big new unique ideas," and added that the development team "is very focused on trying to find those ideas." He ruled out adopting a first-person perspective for the series, after IGN reminded him that Eiji Aonuma showed <em>The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</em> played through Link's eyes at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/11/gdc-07-and-thats-a-wrap/">GDC 07</a>. May we recommend a side-scrolling game interspersed with lengthy, high-quality cut-scenes? Oh, uh, <a href="http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BaHlUlWHNTo">never mind</a>.<br /><br />Anyway, while Shiggy's comments are rather vague, this does raise another issue: is the <em>Zelda</em> series growing stagnant? The initial outcry over <em>Wind Waker</em> suggests change is a delicate issue with the fans!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976796"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__15__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__14__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__13__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976788"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__12__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976786"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__9__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=58619">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/miyamoto-wants-big-new-ideas-in-next-zelda/">Miyamoto wants 'big, new ideas' in next Zelda</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 14:36:00 EST. Wahey! Yeah, we know that Japan (<em>generally</em> speaking) gets the most excellent items when compared to elsewhere, but listen here, bub: it's <em>free stuff</em>. We're not about to complain, and nor should you (if you want to feel sorry for somebody, Australia's Club Nintendo scheme has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/australian-club-nintendo-still-not-functional/">gone AWOL</a>, and check out South Africa's piss-poor <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.za/NOE/en_ZA/club_nintendo/stars_catalogue_5823.html">Stars Catalogue</a>).<br /><br />Anyway, as these are happy times for North Americans, we thought we'd reflect on some of the <em>bestest</em> Club Nintendo gifts and trinkets from both Japan and Europe to date -- some of which <em>could </em>end up in the U.S.! Hit the gray button to start DS Fanboy's whirlwind Club Nintendo Tour of Wonders!<br /><br />

Indeed, I can't help but think that just one of the awesome titles announced in the past week could have prevented much of the animosity hurled at Nintendo following their ho-hum presentation at the summer exhibition. <br /><br /> But then again, Nintendo has always been one to surprise us. They've made good moves and bad, interesting decisions coupled with utterly clueless assumptions, and made us wonder <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_boy">what the hell they were thinking</a> while amazing us with what <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii">they're capable of</a>. Here's the Top 5 biggest surprises unleashed by the Big N. <br /></div>

Though their origins are classic, Nintendo-developed games are continuously refined, retooled, and revitalized. Some may buy into that old standard line used mostly for musical artists that makes you sound cool: "their older stuff is better." Such broad generalizations are silly: to ignore <em>Super Mario Galaxy</em> because of a fetish for <em>Super Mario Bros.</em> would be dogmatic.<br /><br />But for those of us growing long in the gaming tooth, we're led to wonder where all of these classic IPs are headed. It's hard to imagine a gaming world without Nintendo's current A-listers, but does anyone have a solid idea of what future iterations of our favorite franchises will be like? Now that just about every gangbuster franchise has been successfully embedded in 3D, we're at a loss as to the next big step for gaming. <br /><br /> Some of us have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/born-for-wii/">really good ideas</a>, but I'm positively stumped as to where these franchises are going. <br /><br /> </div> <br /> <div align="center"> </div> <div class="buttontext"> <div align="center"><a id="ninbutton" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/5-donkey-kong/">NEXT &gt;&gt; </a></div> </div> <style type="text/css"> #ninbutton { border-style: solid; border-color: #000; border-width: 2px; background-color: #BBB; color: #000; text-decoration: none; width: 100px; text-align: center; padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px; margin: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .buttontext { color: #000; text-decoration: none; font: bold 14pt Helvetica; } #ninbutton:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #BBB; background-color: #000; } </style> <center> </center><br /><br /> <div style="border-top: 1px solid; padding-top: 5px;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/top-five/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="left" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/top5_thumbnail_kd_20080702.jpg" /></a><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/top-five/">The Top 5</a> is a weekly feature that provides us with a forum to share our opinions on various aspects of the video game culture, and provides you with a forum to tell us how wrong we are. They're constantly trying to cut corners and this latest app, <em>Ocarina</em>, is no different. Instead of spending time inputting button commands in-game, you can simply inject them, Game Genie or Action Replay-style, into the game. For example, in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-princess"><em>Twilight Princess</em></a>, the <em>Ocarina</em> app allows the user to climb ladders super fast, have infinite bombs and use a variety of items underwater. Among other things, Link can also use the Spinner in a really imaginative way. <br /><br />[Thanks, RupeeClock!]<br /><br />

Did you know that some people really like Nintendo games? It's <em>true!</em> Some people express their fandom by writing about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/target-terror-anubis-ii-prices-slashed-to-reflect-quality/"><em>Target Terror</em> price drops</a>, while others choose to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/female-duo-sets-the-standard-for-link-cosplay/">imitate game characters</a> at anime festivals. The Tanooki interviewed one such cosplayer, Andrea Zampella, and found that her Nintendo devotion is a new development! <br /><br />As it turns out, she grew up <em>Segaist</em>. It wasn't until <em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> games began to show up on the GameCube that Andrea began to appreciate Nintendo consoles. <em>Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games</em> was the catalyst for her complete conversion, marking the end of the Sonic/Mario rivalry. "Plus," she said, "<em>Super Mario Galaxy</em> was the bomb, and so was Rosalina!"<br /><br />Check after the break for a picture of Andrea as Rosalina. More images of both the Rosalina and Midna costumes can be found at The Tanooki, along with the full interview.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/midna-rosalina-expertly-cosplayed-by-nintendo-convert/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Midna, Rosalina expertly cosplayed by Nintendo convert</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/midna-rosalina-expertly-cosplayed-by-nintendo-convert/">Midna, Rosalina expertly cosplayed by Nintendo convert</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jul 2008 17:00:00 EST. With nine different deals on the table today, you might just find something that appeals to you.<br /><br />The "Deal of the Day" is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl"><span style="font-style: italic;">Super Smash Bros. Brawl</span></a> for $25.99, which really leaves you with <span style="font-style: italic;">no excuse</span> not to buy it. The lightning deals are where the <span style="font-style: italic;">excitement</span> is always at, though, and there are <span style="font-style: italic;">eight</span> of them that will cycle throughout the day. <br /><br />Before we get into what's on the list, we must say that the sales are <span style="font-style: italic;">slightly</span> disappointing. Maybe it's just us, but we wish Amazon had included more second-party titles. After all, such games are considered "Nintendo Icons," too. There's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/07/wii-fanboy-review-fire-emblem-radiant-dawn/">one title in particular</a> that we feel is sorely missing -- but we digress.<br /><br />To see Amazon's hints for the eight lightning deals, just click past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/on-sale-at-amazon-nine-cheap-games-for-nintendo-lovers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>On sale at Amazon -- Nine cheap games for Nintendo lovers [update 5]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/on-sale-at-amazon-nine-cheap-games-for-nintendo-lovers/">On sale at Amazon -- Nine cheap games for Nintendo lovers [update 5]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jun 2008 09:30:00 EST. Team Twiizers has made practical use of that information, releasing their <em>own</em> update of the Twilight Hack save file. If you were worried about having to go a <em>whole week</em> without homebrew, you can relax.<br /><br />While they were sprucing the code up with the Wii Menu 3.3 compatibility, Team Twiizers added a few other nice modifications, including better video configuration, region-specific save file icons, and Twilight Hack-specific <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RthZgszykLs">"Still Alive"</a> <a href="http://hackmii.com/2008/06/twilight-hack-v01beta1#comment-1610">parody lyrics</a> hidden inside the LOADER file. <br />Still hunting for a Wii? If so, Circuit City's online store has them in around about ... <em>now</em>.<br /><br />Think supplies are going to last long? Hell no! Even though Circuit City is selling the things with an extra Wiimote, nunchuk and<em> </em>two of the titles listed below, we estimate these puppies will be gone <em>soon</em>. We'd usually criticize the practice of <em>forcing</em> customers to buy bundles, but we estimate that at least three or four of the six games being offered are must-haves:<br />

We had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/send-in-the-cosplayers/">cosplaying</a> on the brain recently, and we figured we'd divert from the usual gaming-oriented morning topic to ask if you're a fan of the practice or one that participates in it? Enjoy it? Have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/31/twilight-princess-cosplay-leaves-us-agog/">any pictures</a> (unless you're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/taking-a-love-for-birdo-too-far/">this person</a>, in which case we ask you keep them to yourself) you want to share? Tried it once and didn't care for it? Of the mind these people are loons? Tell us what you think!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/wii-warm-up-cosplaying-agenda/">Wii Warm Up: Cosplaying agenda</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 08:00:00 EST. <br />Amazon must need to clear out its GameCube stock of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilight-princess">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</a></em>, as this is the second sale the online retailer has hosted in just two days, not that we're complaining!<br /><br />The last deal lasted only four hours and offered the GameCube release for only $19.99, and, while that sounds much cheaper than the $25.99 Amazon is asking for <em>Twilight Princess</em> now, keep in mind that that $25+ pricing includes free shipping. You can make that kind of change slashing at grass and breaking pots for two minutes!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.cheapassgamer.com">CAG</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/19/gc-twilight-princess-now-24-rupees-cheaper/">GC Twilight Princess, now 24 rupees cheaper</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Apr 2008 16:30:00 EST. The Wii '<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/25/twilight-princess-exploit-leads-to-explosion-of-wii-hacks/">Twilight Hack</a>' has been upgraded to version 0.1a3, also known as <span style="font-style: italic;">Hello Grandma!</span> Perhaps responding to complaints from Wii's elderly demographic, purveyors of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Twilight Princess</span> exploit have laid out a <a href="http://wiibrew.org/index.php?title=Twilight_Hack">process</a> that's as simple as popping out that little card from your digital camera and copying some files right next to the folder of 'Senior Night' at the bowling lanes. Insert into your Wii (see image above) and <span style="font-style: italic;">*POOF*</span> ... you'll be playing a second-rate version of <span style="font-style: italic;">Tetris</span> in no time!<br /> <br />For those still uncertain about just how easy Wii hackery has become, peep the video walkthrough after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/03/14/twilight-hack-now-supports-sd-loading/">Wii Fanboy</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/wii-twilight-princess-hack-gets-sd-support/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii 'Twilight Princess' hack gets SD card support</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/wii-twilight-princess-hack-gets-sd-support/">Wii 'Twilight Princess' hack gets SD card support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Mar 2008 19:00:00 EST. Well, <em>Pong</em> isn't the only thing folks are using this to run, as one man shows us his homebrew version of <em>Tetris</em> running on the system. Originally created as a homebrew project for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamecube">GameCube</a> many years ago, this version of <em>Tetris</em> is lacking the bells and whistles most have taken for granted over the last decade or so. This isn't the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/28/hackers-get-into-wii-hunt-for-angelina-jolie-begins/">first time</a> someone has hacked the Wii, but it <em>is</em> the first time the tools have been made available. We look forward to the inevitable rush of neat Wii homebrew applications, if this hack is actually developed to a useful stage.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=238349">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/twilight-hack-teases-homebrew/">'Twilight Hack' teases homebrew</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Feb 2008 13:30:00 EST. After less than fifteen months since its release, the Wii has sold over 20 million units worldwide. Through rigorous scientific calculations, Nintendo Wii Fanboy has decided to officially quantify that total as "a lot." Most of these units were sold in the past nine months, causing Nintendo's profits to nearly double in that time.<br /><br />Nintendo has also reported that 6 million of those Wii units were sold in Europe. The top selling software in the continent includes <em>Wii Play</em> (selling 2.3 million copies), <em>Super Mario Galaxy</em> (selling 1.3 million), <em>Mario Party 8</em> (selling 1 million), and <em>Twilight Princess</em> (selling 1.3 million).<br /><br />Not too shabby, Nintendo.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/24/newsflash-many-people-own-wiis/">Newsflash: Many people own Wiis</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Jan 2008 19:00:00 EST. I have played <em>other </em>Zelda and Mario titles of course, sometimes for scores of hours each, but just never quite found the time to finish them. As for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-galaxy"><em>Super Mario Galaxy</em></a>, that was left to collect dust a month ago, with only 21 stars obtained, and 99 still missing.<br /><br />I am not proud of these facts. But I am coming clean now, and it feels <em>good</em>! So put any concerns about your precious gamer cred to one side, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/wii-warm-up/">tell</a> us: which gaming classics have you either failed to complete, or not even tried? <em>It'll be our secret</em>. <br />Oh. It's ... Sheik. Everybody back to work! We're sorry, but you'll have to forgive our lack of surprise. You see, we already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/corocoro-magazine-reveals-sheik-other-obvious-additions-to-braw/">discovered </a>that Zelda's tomboy alter ego would be appearing in <em>Brawl</em>.<br /><br />Nevertheless, we did learn <em>some</em> new tidbits from today's dojo update. For example, we now know that swapping between Zelda to Sheik is <em>dead easy</em> -- it's allocated to the down special move -- and that there are benefits to using both. Apparently, the two are completely unique characters, and comparing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/sheikspecialmoves.jpg">Sheik's moveset</a> with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/zeldaspecialmoves.jpg">Zelda's</a> proves this to be true.<br /><br />Finally, if you're wondering where Sakurai and his team took the design for a <em>Twilight Princess</em>-era Sheik from (you'll recall that she doesn't appear in the game), it's taken from a bit of concept art that was drafted up during development. So now you know: at one point, Nintendo was kinda thinking about including Sheik in <em>Twilight Princess</em>, but never got around to doing so.<br />

Yet, how many of us can boast that we've beaten those four games in 48 straight hours? Probably none.<br /><br />Cameron Banga and his friends will soon have that right, though. They've made it their mission to not only trek through the four 3D <em>Zelda</em> games, but beat them in a 48 hour deadline (which expires tomorrow at 5PM CST). They are also showing their exploits to the world by webcasting the event <a href="http://www.cameronbanga.com/">here</a>.<br /><br />So, are these guys gods among men or just in need of a new hobby? While things like LOLcatz and coffee definitely make the list (oh right, and our families and friends, we guess), we wanted to show a little appreciation for the Wii as well. The Nintendo Wii Fanboy staff was thus asked what about the Wii we are most thankful for. The following is what happens when you have a staff with the collective maturity level of 37% (calculated by science).<strong><br /></strong><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/what-were-thankful-for-wii-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>What we're thankful for: Wii edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/what-were-thankful-for-wii-edition/">What we're thankful for: Wii edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Nov 2007 12:00:00 EST. <br />This compilation of western and Japanese <span style="font-style: italic;">Zelda</span> TV commercials is by no means comprehensive, but it does feature three or four that are new to us. Some are just downright peculiar -- the second <span style="font-style: italic;">Legend of Zelda</span> advert recalls David Lynch's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eraserhead"><span style="font-style: italic;">Eraserhead</span></a> -- and there's clearly been an unsettling amount of rapping involved in the marketing of the series, something we hadn't noticed previously. The advert for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twilightprincess/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Twilight Princess</span></a> is utterly tame in comparison.<br /><br />No doubt you'll have seen a couple of these about a gazillion times (the <span style="font-style: italic;">Ocarina of Time</span> commercial from the days when Nintendo didn't think twice about calling you a <span style="font-style: italic;">weak little girl</span>, and the fabulously dorky "Your parents help you hook it up!" ad from the late-'80s), but it's still worth a watch for the more obscure stuff, some of which even manages to out-weird Sony's recent <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2007/11/04/how-not-to-advertise-the-ps3/">output</a>. And that's a heck of an achievement.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/05/rapping-puppetry-and-misogyny-zelda-commercials-through-the-a/">Rapping, puppetry, and misogyny: Zelda commercials through the ages</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Nov 2007 13:30:00 EST. It should make for an interesting award session, because while the Wii is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">dominating console sales</a> (along with the DS), many people see games like <span style="font-style: italic;">Gears of War</span> as greater achievements. Despite that, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/02/wii-sports-wins-game-of-the-year-award-in-time-magazine/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wii Sports</span></a> leads the pack of nominations, having picked up the greatest number of nominations; the pack-in boasts nods in seven categories, including Gameplay and Multiplayer.<br /><br />It's not the only Wii title to pick up recognition, however; <span style="font-style: italic;">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Trauma Center: Second Opinion</span> are up for awards, along with a few other games. Check out the full list of nominations after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/bafta-noms-battle-of-the-biggies/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BAFTA noms: battle of the biggies</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/bafta-noms-battle-of-the-biggies/">BAFTA noms: battle of the biggies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 18:10:00 EST. Nintendo confirmed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/wii-warm-up-zapper-pack-in-revealed/">rumors</a> yesterday that the Zapper peripheral will also come bundled with software called <em>Link's Crossbow Training</em>, which is the "perfect demonstration of the way the Wii Zapper could be used in other games." The software will focus on Link within the world of his latest title on the Wii and GameCube, <em>The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</em>, where he must make his way "through a series of tests to perfect his crossbow marksmanship."<br /><br />Considering that <em>Blastris</em> for the Super Score 6 back on the SNES was all kinds of fun, we can't say we're worried this bundled software won't be.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/confirmed-youll-use-the-zapper-to-help-link-train-up/">Confirmed: You'll use the Zapper to help Link train up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Sep 2007 00:11:00 EST.
