As it did in Japan, publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a> will be releasing a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umbrellachronicles/">Biohazard/Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles</a></em> Zapper bundle on June 20th in Korea for ?55,000 (approximately $52.50). No word yet on whether any bonuses will be thrown in with early preorders, but it's very likely!<br /><br />Why don't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/12/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles-zapper-bundle-it-comes-with/">these</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/29/point-blank-shots-of-the-ghost-squad-zapper-bundle/">third-party</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/28/hotd-2-and-3-zapper-bundle-coming-to-japan/">bundles</a> ever make it stateside? You'd think that Capcom, a company that has repackaged and sold to us <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/re4">the same game</a> several dozen times in just three years, would be thrilled to thrust upon us yet another box bearing the <em>Resident Evil</em> logo! What's so great about Korea that they should get this package, and not us?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/27/capcom-to-release-umbrella-chronicles-bundle-in-korea-not-u-s/">Capcom to release Umbrella Chronicles bundle in Korea, not U.S.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 May 2008 20:00:00 EST. With the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/resident-wii-vil-4-ships-a-million-units/">successful wii-vival of <em>Resident Evil 4</em></a>, not to mention plans to introduce waggle to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/resident-evil-zero-port-waggling-onto-wii/"><em>Resident Evil Zero</em> in Japan</a>, there's little question that Capcom enjoys returning to - and drinking from - the Wii's zombie-infested well. And for good reason, as the company announced that its latest trip down memory lane for the Wii, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umbrellachronicles/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a>, has shipped over a million units the world over since the game's debut last November.<br /><br />Impressive, for sure, though what's even more staggering is that the series as a whole has sold more than 34.5 million units globally as of February 29. However, the company is not all about survival horror, having recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/03/capcom-usa-hiring-with-15-projects-in-development/">confirmed plans</a> for some 15 new projects in the works -- though Capcom will likely always have a special place in its heart (and wallet) for the decaying flesh of the undead.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/umbrella-chronicles-ships-a-million-units-worldwide/">Umbrella Chronicles ships a million units worldwide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Mar 2008 10:55:00 EST. If you're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/umbrella-chronicles-lurches-toward-a-million-sales/">one of the few</a> who decided this game wasn't worth owning at the $50 price range, you might want to give it a second look. Amazon's Deal of the Day has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/its-wesker-day/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a> on sale for the low price of $30. As if the prospect of shooting horde after horde of the undead wasn't enough to sell you ...<br /><br />But, in case it wasn't enough to sell you on the game, this <em>should</em> sell you on it. The game will also ship for free from Amazon, so no need to plunk down any extra dough there. If you don't know why we're so excited for an on-rail shooter, you haven't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/">read our review</a> of the game.<br /><br />Note: If you're interested in this sale, don't hesitate. It was already pulled once while we've been watching it. The game is no doubt a hot item right now. <br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/resident-evil-under-priced/">Resident Evil: Under Priced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Feb 2008 11:15:00 EST. Capcom's on-rail shooter, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a>, is getting close to becoming a million-seller. It's been revealed that the title has sold 950,000 copies, with the million mark well within its reach. Actually, it could have already broken a million sales, as this data is current as of the end of December.<br /><br />The game did a lot better than Capcom initially thought, especially in the U.S. and Europe where it sold the strongest, as the company reveals the title did 50% better than their in-house estimations. Personally, we don't know why they would think a game about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/big-heads-make-easy-targets-in-house-of-the-dead-2-and-3-return/">shooting the crap out of the living dead</a> and genetically-altered beasties alike wouldn't sell a million. Plus, with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/17/resident-evil-degeneration-looks-like-a-good-resident-evil-movi/"><em>Resident Evil</em></a> name attached to it, how could it not sell incredibly well?<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/umbrella-chronicles-lurches-toward-a-million-sales/">Umbrella Chronicles lurches toward a million sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2008 12:45:00 EST. It's not the bundle you see above, but it <em>is</em> a bundle, per se. See, we're trying to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/29/fanswag-win-a-zapper-and-umbrella-chronicles/">unload this</a> Wii Zapper and copy of <em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em> we have laying around. We figured we'd share the love and spread the wealth. And who better to share with than the lovely readers of Wii Fanboy? Nobody, that's who.<br /><br />So, be sure to head on over to the original post and enter for your chance to win. That is, if you haven't already and right now, you've only got a few hours left to do so. Remember, one entry per person, you must be a legal resident of the United States and you must be 18 years old to enter. Multiple entries will get you disqualified.<br /><br />[Update: if you want to enter (and haven't already), you need to go over to the original post, linked above, and comment there. We've turned comments off on this entry to reduce confusion. So, we decided to toss in a pretty badass game to go along with it in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a>. And, since we aren't getting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/12/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles-zapper-bundle-it-comes-with/">the bundle</a> above, we figured we could kind of make our own special bundle.<br /><br />What do you need to do? Well, first you have to <a href="http://www.weblogsinc.com/weblogs-giveaways-official-rules/">read the rules</a>. Then, leave a comment (multiple comments will get you disqualified, so only one entry please) here telling us your favorite NES game that utilized the Nintendo Zapper (you can find a list of compatible games <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NES_Zapper#Compatible_games">here</a>). Then, you have to make sure your comment is in before December 3rd, 2007 at 11:59PM EST. Finally, all you need to do is sit back and relax. The winner will be announced on Tuesday and chosen via random drawing. The lucky winner will receive one Wii Zapper ($25) and one copy of <em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em> ($50).<br /><br />Best of luck to you all and thanks for reading Wii Fanboy!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/29/fanswag-win-a-zapper-and-umbrella-chronicles/">Fanswag: Win a Zapper and Umbrella Chronicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Nov 2007 09:45:00 EST. Many of you are probably rocking your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/wii-zapper-gets-unboxed/">Wii Zapper</a> (hopefully gunning down <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/">some zombies</a>), but there are also other <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/wii-releases-for-the-week-of-november-19th/">releases</a> to be considered this week. There's just so much to play right now! So, you can imagine our weekend is going to be chock full of game time. <br /><br />What about you? What game (or games) will you be rocking? I've got every <em>Resident Evil </em>game, countless posters, shirts and figurines from the various games. The original was one of the most important games in my development as a gamer. It helped make me the gamer I am today.<br /><br />And when the franchise hit the GameCube, it was the icing on the cake. The <em>Resident Evil </em>remake that appeared on the system was amazing, along with <em>Resident Evil 0 </em>and the game that even franchise haters couldn't ignore, <em>Resident Evil 4</em>. As the first original game in the series on a Nintendo console since <em>RE 4</em>, this was an important game in my eyes.<br /><br />One has to consider the other spin-off <span style="font-style: italic;">Resident Evil</span> titles, also. You might be skeptical to try out <span style="font-style: italic;">Umbrella Chronicles</span> because of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Gun Survivor </span>or <span style="font-style: italic;">Outbreak</span> games. This, thankfully, is not in the same league as that riffraff.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Fanboy Review: Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/21/wii-fanboy-review-resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles/">Wii Fanboy Review: Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Nov 2007 18:18:00 EST. We have two sources of Weskeriffic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/fresh-footage-of-umbrella-chronicles/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a> updates for you, to celebrate this most auspicious of made-up <em>Resident Evil</em>-related holidays (right after the Feast of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Nk2lyg-GEM&amp;mode=related&amp;search=">Tofu</a> and Unlocking Week). First, Famitsu has posted a completely Wesker-focused update, which includes some new screens of the playable Wesker, and not much new information, other than that he's kind of a badass.<br /><br />Second, the official Japanese <em>Resident Evil </em><a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/bio_uc/">page</a> has updated with a new trailer (click on the "Movies" button, then the one marked "new", which focuses on-- you guessed it-- <strike>Hunk</strike> Albert Wesker. To help Japanese gamers keep this in mind, they're giving out this fancy Umbrella Corporation wallet along with copies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/fresh-footage-of-umbrella-chronicles/"><em>Umbrella Chronicles</em></a> <a href="http://www.e-capcom.com/shop/?&amp;category=0001">preordered</a> through their <a href="http://e-capcom.com">e-Capcom</a> site. You can keep your money in there in the brief intervening period between <em>Resident Evil</em> purchases. People planning to buy Japanese copies of <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> are rapidly accumulating quite a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/12/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles-zapper-bundle-it-comes-with/">collection of stuff</a>!<br /><br />Similarly, all of your food has been determined to be the property of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/02/devil-kings-2-bows-down-offers-up-trailer/"><em>Sengoku Basara 2</em></a> -- oh, that doesn't work like it did for the wallet. Okay, they're giving away nice chopsticks along with preorders. Imagine a good joke in there or something.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/16/capcom-tells-you-where-your-money-should-go/">Capcom tells you where your money should go</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Oct 2007 14:15:00 EST. If there's one thing we'll say about this video for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/fresh-uc-screens-show-ken-doll-zombies/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a>, it looks like reloading with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/wii-zapper-and-links-crossbow-training-packaging-details/">Wii Zapper</a> is going to be a big pain in the <em>rear end</em>. Still, we're excited to play the game and can't wait to have a new title in the <em>Resident Evil</em> franchise to play. If you're one who doesn't mind seeing a large portion of gameplay before the title's release, then hit up the link below to check out some footage.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=26739">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/fresh-footage-of-umbrella-chronicles/">Fresh footage of Umbrella Chronicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Oct 2007 12:45:00 EST. Sometimes a zombie is just going to be naked. We've all been there, fighting for our life against a horde of the undead, only to find one or more of them lacking clothes. It's pretty funny for a moment, then we've all got back to the <em>dispatching of the undead</em>. Old hat, we know.<br /><br />But these new <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> screens are the stuff of nightmares. Naked zombies taking on a sort of doll-like appearance, lacking any kind of gender definition whatsoever? Man, that's all kinds of scary. Oh, and the mutant monkies aren't exactly the stuff of pleasant dreams, either.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/fresh-uc-screens-show-ken-doll-zombies/">Fresh UC screens show Ken doll zombies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 13:30:00 EST. Some people are all in favor of the Zapper, as we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/wii-warm-up-zapper-board-or-wheel/#comments">discussed this morning</a>, but Game|Life's Chris Kohler is not among them ... at least, not when it comes to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umbrellachronicles/"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a>. After trying the game several times, he has consistently found that the Zapper is less optimal for this game than the simple naked combination of the Wii remote and nunchuk. At TGS, he was playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/two-player-possibilities-in-umbrella-chronicles/">co-op</a> with a freelancer who was even excited about the Zapper and its potential with the game. He played without, and she played with -- and halfway through, they switched.<br /><br />Once finished, he asked her which she preferred ... and she agreed with him. The Zapper may end up being great for other games, but in <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em>, it seems to make actions ungainly rather than precise, particularly when one has to reload or pick up objects. <br /><br />This makes us doubly interested in seeing how the shell affects other games, like the pack-in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/wii-zapper-and-links-crossbow-training-packaging-details/"><em>Link's Crossbow Training</em></a>, but for now, we think we may just stick to the remote and nunchuk. After all, the remote is a pointing device all on its own, and we've seen just how fantastic it can be for shooting.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/tgs07-kohler-says-umbrella-chronicles-just-better-without-the-z/">TGS07: Kohler says Umbrella Chronicles just better without the Zapper</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 19:00:00 EST. Why do we think he's a zombie? Well, his mouth is covered in blood. Wesker's red eyes is something we knew from the conclusion of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Wesker#Code:_Veronica"><em>Resident Evil: Code Veronica</em></a>, but he wasn't into eating flesh or anything (unless we missed something, which is possible considering how long it's been).<br /><br />As for the rest of the trailer, it's pure gold for <em>Resident Evil</em> fans (we can't wait to bust caps in Nemesis). For all three of you out there that are as excited about this game as we are, some new scans have made their way onto this mess of tubes we call the internet. The scans are chock full of text, but do offer up some images of Chris and Jill frequenting some new locales. As if we needed anything else to get us excited for this game.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/06/check-out-some-new-umbrella-chronicles-scans/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Check out some new Umbrella Chronicles scans</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/06/check-out-some-new-umbrella-chronicles-scans/">Check out some new Umbrella Chronicles scans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Sep 2007 19:30:00 EST. New <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/UmbrellaChronicles/">Umbrella Chronicles</a></em> video! Right <em>behind you!</em> And by "behind you" we mean "on this website to which we're linking!" It's a regional figure of speech. <br /><br />In addition to the video, you can read about the characters and setting of <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> (people and places from old <em>Resident Evil </em>games, respectively) and look through a gallery of screenshots. <em>Scary</em> downloads are coming soon, but at the moment that link doesn't do anything. The look of the upcoming <em>Resident Evil</em> on-rails shooter, <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em>, has grown by leaps and bounds since we first started to see screenshots. The November release dates are fast approaching, so what we're seeing here is probably a lot of what we'll be seeing on our televisions once this hits shelves. We <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/15/wii-warm-up-so-about-the-umbrella-chronicles/">discussed opinions</a> on this title back in April, and it seems like a good time to ask if you're now more (or hey, less, for the <em>haters</em>) excited about this one than you were back then. <br /><br />We've updated the gallery with the latest screens, and the dates embedded with the images allows you to compare shots and see how things have come along since we got our first glimpses of the title. There's also a new trailer tucked away after the break for your viewing pleasure. We just love all the new trailers that surface for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/e307-wii-blaster-with-umbrella-chronicles-trailer/">game conferences</a>!<br /><br />[Top image found <a href="http://wiiz.fr/article.php?a=13126">here</a>, along with others!]<br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/23/umbrella-chronicles-looks-horrifying-in-a-good-way/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Umbrella Chronicles looks horrifying - in a good way</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/23/umbrella-chronicles-looks-horrifying-in-a-good-way/">Umbrella Chronicles looks horrifying - in a good way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Aug 2007 12:00:00 EST. If you saw <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/08/new-umbrella-chronicles-scans-show-off-other-segments-character/">these scans</a> the other day and thought, "wow, I'd love to see those screens," then this post's for you. Dengeki Online has that very thing -- the latest in <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> shots. If they're just cleaned up, then it's a very good job. If there's one thing we can <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/joystiq-plays-umbrella-chronicles-doesnt-like-it-again/">complain</a> about in <em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em>, it's that we've only seen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles-1/">screens</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/new-umbrella-chronicles-trailer-shows-off-more-of-the-mansion/">video</a> of the game during its sections involving the mansion from the first <em>Resident Evil</em>. Thanks to some new scans, however, we get some glimpses at the other segments that will make up the game. And, we're excited! The zombies look pretty good, if we may say so.<br /><br />Head past the break for the scans.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/08/new-umbrella-chronicles-scans-show-off-other-segments-character/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Umbrella Chronicles scans show off other segments, characters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/08/new-umbrella-chronicles-scans-show-off-other-segments-character/">New Umbrella Chronicles scans show off other segments, characters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Aug 2007 13:30:00 EST. <div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/wii-zapper-live-460.jpg" alt="" /></div>
After our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles-with-wii-zapper/">initial trial</a> with the Wii zapper, we decided to take a second look at it. Is the newly-revealed attachment a gimmick or an integral part of gameplay? Capcom has the attachment on display at their mini-booth in the Barker Hanger at E3 and we were able to run through a demo of <em>Resident Evil: Umbrealla Chronicles</em> with the peripheral.<br /></div>
<br /> The control scheme is altered for using the zapper. Shooting is done with the trigger, while you look around with the control stick. The buttons on the nunchuk are surprisingly still accessible and needed for swapping weapons. Holding the gun and aiming proved to be awkward at first, and only <em>slightly</em> awkward as we kept playing. Reloading was accomplished by shaking the zapper.<br /><br /> Though the top buttons of the remote were accessible, we found it uncomfortable to do so when we had to hold the A button, the C button on the nunchuk, and then the trigger to lob a grenade (replace trigger for a gun shake to slash with your knife). It works fine, but the feeling of intuitive controls was at that moment lost for us.<br /><br /> For those wondering, the Capcom representative we spoke said the gun was not going to be compatible with <em>Resident Evil 4</em>. The Wii zapper is indeed interesting, but our initial impression using it with <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> is that it doesn't add that much to what we'd enjoy with simply the remote-nunchuk combination.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/more-thoughts-on-the-wii-zapper/">More thoughts on the Wii zapper</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Jul 2007 05:48:00 EST. Remember <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/joystiq-gets-their-hands-on-two-upcoming-capcom-titles/">their first</a> hands-on with the game? They weren't too excited for the game after playing it and, with the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/nintendo-reveals-wii-zapper/">Nintendo</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/a-closer-look-at-the-wii-zapper/">Zapper</a>, it turns out the experience hasn't gotten much better, in their eyes. Of course, we here question their sanity sometimes, only to receive the whipping of our lifetime in response, but we have to voice our protest on this one. Whips be damned! Sure, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/wii-fanboy-staff-keynote-reactions/">some of us</a> think the new Wii Zapper is pretty dumb, but Joystiq is of the mind that it makes the experience worse than their first time around with the game. <br /><br />Can it truly bring the experience down that much?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/joystiq-plays-umbrella-chronicles-doesnt-like-it-again/">Joystiq plays Umbrella Chronicles, doesn't like it (again)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jul 2007 13:45:00 EST. Sure, such a game demands co-op gameplay, but until now, it's just been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/two-player-possibilities-in-umbrella-chronicles/">a rumor</a>. Famitsu comes to the rescue, confirming that two-players will be able to team up against the zombie hordes in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umbrellachronicles"><em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em></a>. Sounds good to us!<br /><br />The game also looks to add some variety by allowing players to select from a roster of characters. Selecting a character isn't just a cosmetic choice, though, as it will dictate your starting point in the level. For example, players that choose Rebecca will start in the train cars, just like in <em>Resident Evil 0</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/05/new-umbrella-chronicles-deets-revealed/">New Umbrella Chronicles deets revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jul 2007 12:05:00 EST. Unlike previous <em>Resident Evil </em><a href="http://gaygamer.net/2007/05/capcom_press_day_nyc_resident.html">spinoff games</a>, this one seems like it's going to be okay. <br /><br />They were especially pleased with the treatment of the story-- since the <em>Resident Evil</em> series has traditionally had a good story element, this game has a leg up over other zombie-filled shooting games. Nobody will have to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_8AEaAFuDM">suffer like G did</a>.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Nunchuk/">Nunchuk</a> use also received praise-- being able to look around freely with the joystick just lets you do more in each area, allowing the players to search for hidden items, aim shots more accurately, and choose paths.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/resident-evil-impressions-chronicles/">Resident Evil: Impressions Chronicles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 May 2007 17:35:00 EST. We know some of you out there are excited about Capcom's on-rails <em>Resident Evil</em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/UmbrellaChronicles/">Umbrella Chronicles</a></em>, so we ask you: How excited are you? Are you excited enough about the Wii as light-gun functionality that you'd be willing to dish out &yen;3675 (about $30)? Are you excited enough about returning to the original Raccoon City mansion that you'd want to decorate your mom's basement with a game case disguised as a medical waste containment carrier?<br /><br />We'll admit, we're not quite as excited as you lot, but we would like to decorate our mom's basement with more video game-themed tchotchkes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles-gets-limited-ed-in-japan/">Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles gets limited ed. in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 May 2007 10:38:00 EST. What little remained of the human race would have to go into hiding, their once-magnificent kingdoms now ruled by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=zombies">zombie</a> majesty. It's a terrible vision that we hold onto in our heads every night before drifting off to sleep, hoping to carry it along with us in our dreams. <br /><br />Given our affection for the undead here at the Fanboy offices, we couldn't pass up mentioning this month's cover of Official Nintendo Magazine. The issue advertises May's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/residentevil">Resident Evil</a></em> features with a corpse hand breaking through its earthen grave. Of course, given the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/new-umbrella-chronicles-trailer-shows-off-more-of-the-mansion/">trailers we've seen</a> from the game that have Chris and Jill <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/06/resident-evil-sites-lunge-right-for-our-jugular/">running together</a> through the mansion, plus the nature of on-rails shooters themselves, the likelihood of being able to play with a friend is very high. The latest news also confirms a list of playable characters, including <span class="text_article_body">Chris, Jill, Carlos Oliveira, Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen, Albert Wesker, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, with each character having their own signature maneuver (such as a roundhouse kick or knife slash).<br /><br /><strong>See also: </strong><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/15/umbrella-chronicles-wont-be-another-gun-survivor/"><em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> won't be another <em>Gun Survivor</em></a><br /></span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/two-player-possibilities-in-umbrella-chronicles/">Two player possibilities in Umbrella Chronicles?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 May 2007 12:15:00 EST. Well, Capcom almost decided to make <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/umbrellachronicles"><em>Umbrella Chronicles</em></a> the spitting image of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=resident+evil+4"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a>, which you can bet we would've been totally on board with, but after seeing Nintendo's Wii console in action, the company decided to make it an on-rail shooter. While we could sit here with a frown on our face and pout about the possibilities that could've been, we'll just think about unicorns. And big, fluffy clouds.<br /><br />The game's producer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Masachika+Kawata">Masachika Kawata</a>, argued that the new direction is more fir for Wii owners, claiming the game would've been "too complicated to enjoy. Wii users like easiness. <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> is not only for game enthusiasts. Complex operability can be an obstacle for Wii users. We want players to enjoy the game's horrifying and creepy world and its thrilling shooting action. By reducing enthusiast-only elements, players can purely enjoy the world." Personally, we like our games to have some depth and find ourselves disagreeing with his stance on the issue.<br /><br />Just because the Wii has these amazing innovative controls and product that appeals to just about every person on this planet, doesn't mean you should totally do away with an already established hot product (<em>Resident Evil 4</em> is set to grace <em>three</em> different systems and has sold how many copies?). Or, are we crazy and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=capcom">Capcom's</a> decision is the more sound one from a business point of view?<br /><br />[Thanks, Josh!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/01/umbrella-chronicles-was-almost-like-re4/">Umbrella Chronicles was almost like RE4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 May 2007 22:00:00 EST. During the interview, he confirms the game will feature scenarios from <em>Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 1 </em>and, our personal favorite, <em>Resident Evil 2</em>. While we're bummed that <em>Resident Evil 3</em> is left out of the party, we can understand why Capcom chose to do so (we're sure that Nemesis would really mess the game formula up). Sadly, we don't get a sneak peek at any of the segments taken from <em>Resident Evil 0 </em>and <em>Resident Evil 2</em> in this video.<br /><br />[Note: Clicking the "Read" link, or on the graphic above, will open the video in a separate window.]<br /><br /><font color="red">Update:</font> Small typo has been corrected. Unlike with most of the <em>Gun Survivor</em> titles, <em>Umbrella Chronicles'</em> development hasn't been handed down to a lesser studio. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/capcom">Capcom's</a> own Kawada Masachika is heading production, working to extend the game's length -- approximately 15 hours -- beyond the short playtimes that plagued <em>Gun Survivor</em> releases. <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> also promises a lot more gameplay depth with destructible environments, improved weapon selection, and quick time events. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/13/joystiq-gets-their-hands-on-two-upcoming-capcom-titles/">Previews</a> for <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> haven't been favorable, but it's still too early in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/development">development</a> for us to judge. Knowing that Capcom won't be following the same formula as the <em>Gun Survivor</em> series, however, gives us hope for the final product.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/15/umbrella-chronicles-wont-be-another-gun-survivor/">Umbrella Chronicles won't be another Gun Survivor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 Apr 2007 17:30:00 EST. They find faults in both titles, but really only praise <span style="font-style: italic;">Treasure Island Z</span>. <div align="left">When we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/capcom-confirms-resident-evil-wii-in-2007-unannounced-games-com/">originally</a> saw <em>Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles</em>, it wasn't hard to figure out that it was an on-rails shooter, even without having to touch it. Now that we've finally gotten the Wii remote <em>and</em> the nunchuk in our hands, we can confirm, once again, that it is an on-rails shooter. A particularly boring one at that.<br /><br /><em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> earned it's new moniker, <em>House of the Resident Evil</em>, by feeling like just that. Our demo of the title had us going through the mansion from the original <em>Resident Evil</em>, only at turbo speed. The Wii remote was used to aim a cursor on the screen, while the nunchuk was largely useless, used only to look around. Inexplicably, reloading is done by waggling the remote, thus becoming a nuisance during hectic scenes. You know, because it's not like the nunchuk doesn't have motion sensors or anything.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-the-umbrella-chronicles/">Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-the-umbrella-chronicles/#212904"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/bhuc0020_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-the-umbrella-chronicles/#212903"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/bhuc0011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-the-umbrella-chronicles/#212902"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/bhuc0010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-the-umbrella-chronicles/#212901"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/bhuc0008_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-the-umbrella-chronicles/#212900"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/04/bhuc0001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

Pity the <em>Resident Evil</em> fanatic. Not only has the poor guy had to buy two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/11/13/the-resident-evil-4-chainsaw-controller-for-gamecube/">chainsaw controllers</a> and brave two <em>Resident Evil</em> movies (and now suffers cold sweats anticipating <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/17/resident-evil-films-to-culminate-in-extinction-or-not/">the third</a>), but according to <em>Famitsu</em>, he'll now have to buy a third version of <em>Resident Evil 4</em>, this time for Wii.<br /><br />An intrepid NeoGAF member <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=149365">translated the info</a> from the most recent issue of the Japanese magazine. The new version (presumably the unannounced game that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/capcom-confirms-resident-evil-wii-in-2007-unannounced-games-com/">Capcom hinted at last month</a>) uses the Wiimote for aiming, naturally, but also uses it for stabbing zombies, as God intended. There's no word yet on whether or not it will reach North America, but a listing for the game <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=161085">briefly appeared</a> on Gamestop's site, and the thing's already been localized once, so it would seem like a lock.<br /><br />The scans say that the game will also include a trailer for <em>Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles</em> which we know is due out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/capcom-confirms-resident-evil-wii-in-2007-unannounced-games-com/">before the end of 2007</a>. Also, the Gamestop listing had the game set for June 25, so maybe you'll be whiling the summer days away holed up, slashing zombies -- suntan be damned!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/04/resident-evil-4-on-wii-official-umbrella-chronicles-an-on-rails/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil 4 on Wii official, Umbrella Chronicles an on-rails shooter</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/04/resident-evil-4-on-wii-official-umbrella-chronicles-an-on-rails/">Resident Evil 4 on Wii official, Umbrella Chronicles an on-rails shooter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Apr 2007 10:27:00 EST. Personally, we're glad ourselves, because when we totally geek out with this game, we want it to look as good as possible. <br /><br />Svensson couldn't confirm if the game would feature Dolby Pro Logic II or not at this time, but history has taught us that Capcom usually employs DLPII in their games (at least during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamecube">GameCube</a> era they did).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=15129">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/27/umbrella-chronicles-to-support-480p-16-9/">Umbrella Chronicles to support 480p, 16:9</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Mar 2007 10:35:00 EST. Yes, we know what the game is, but we just don't <em>care</em>. If it has the name <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=resident+evil">Resident Evil</a> </em>on it, we're buying it.<br /><br />In the interest of everyone else out there besides this lone blogger, the rest of the tidbits are especially delicious. Capcom has announced <em>Devil Kings 2</em> for the Wii (in Japan only as of right now), which if you're one of the folks who didn't play the first game, you can read about it <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_kings">here</a>. Capcom also notes that they have several unannounced titles in the works for Wii, one of which will be revealed in the next few weeks.<br /><br />Oh, thanks Capcom, don't you know that information such as that <em>hurts</em> us more than it <em>helps </em>us?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/19/capcom-has-more-planned-for-the-wii/">Capcom has more planned for the Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Mar 2007 21:25:00 EST.
