The first community-created updated for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/team-fortress-2"><em>Team Fortress 2</em></a> has rolled out: 'Robotic Boogaloo.' Continuing the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/21/team-fortress-2-greets-the-season-with-the-mecha-update/">robot</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/11/mann-vs-machine-update-adds-new-difficulty-settings-and-matchmak/">theme</a> of previous <em>Team Fortress 2</em> updates, Robotic Boogaloo adds 57 new artisanal hats, helmets, bonnets, turbans, crowns, toppers and other headgear - all created by the community.<br />
<br />
Robotic Boogaloo isn't all hats but, naturally, it's <em>mostly hats</em>. Each new <em>Team Fortress 2</em> item can be found within RoboCrates - rare drops after June 3 - that can be opened with a key from the Mann Co. store, each costing $2.50. Lab Zero Games <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/05/14/skullgirls-color-dlc-today-new-characters-coming/">released</a> a PlayStation Network-exclusive batch of new DLC for its 2D fighter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skullgirls">Skullgirls</a></em>, giving the game's cast a wider variety of colorful wardrobe options.<br />

 <i>Skullgirls</i>' eight color packs grant access to five additional color schemes per character, and are priced at $0.99 each. Players can also grab all 40 alternate outfits by purchasing a $5 bundle.<br />
<br />
Owners of the Xbox Live Arcade edition will have to wait until <a href="https://twitter.com/Skullgirls/status/334396174658322432">a later date</a> to explore this new world of color coordination. Starting today, however, XBLA players now have access to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/09/skullgirls-xbla-patch-in-limbo-due-to-file-size/">long-delayed</a> balance patch. The newly released "required compatibility update," which is available as a hefty 273 MB download, fixes regional online play and improves GGPO performance, among many other character-specific tweaks. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/netflix">Netflix</a> app on PS3 has been updated, bringing closer design parity with web and mobile applications to the PS3. Netflix has fixed audio stream and subtitle issues in this update, allowing users to fiddle with these while watching content. Before, you had to back out back to the front-end to enable subtitles. If you've got a PS3 Blu-ray remote, just hit the subtitles button to enable.<br />
<br />
The "trickplay" component - a fancy term for fast-forwarding and rewinding through a particular program - has been tweaked to show more image still previews while scanning through content. The Wii U's Google-powered maps app, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/14/wii-street-u-now-available-free-for-a-limited-time/">Wii Street U</a></em>, has just received an update, allowing users to take pictures of places and upload them to the Miiverse. The <em>Wii Street U</em> app launched in February as a free download on the Nintendo eShop.<br />
<br />
Once uploaded, you can add emotional tags to your images, to better describe the place in question. Phrases like "amazing," "fun" and "scary" can be used - the latter coming in especially handy the next time you upload a pic of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtdHsuRJnAg">the robot band at Chuck E. Crossover</em> is a browser-based game that allows players to run and jump their way through <em>Super Mario Bros.</em> using a variety of characters from other game properties. In celebration of the crossover game's third anniversary, Exploding Rabbit decided it's time to unveil version 3.0 of the game in a new trailer.<br /><br />Of the newer updates to <em>Super Mario Bros. Crossover</em>, the game's new levels stand out. Taken from one of Mario's more obscure appearances, <em>Super Mario Bros. Special</em>, the landscape of the levels changes with the game's difficulty settings. EA Maxis says players should expect server outages "for a few hours" while the update rolls out.<br /><br />Some of the issues surrounding city processing will be resolved, as will problems with spontaneous fluctuations of tourists, school buses getting stuck, sudden air pollution creeping in, and more. The firmware update adds several quality of life improvements to the system, including improved load times when changing between software, or returning to the main Wii U menu. Also included is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/17/wii-u-virtual-console-out-in-north-america-next-week/">Wii U Virtual Console</a>.<br /><br />Additionally, users will now be able to transfer data between USB drives and install background-downloaded software while playing other games. Installed software also has the ability to automatically download and install updates, without requiring the user to run the software first. Furthermore, the Wii U will now continue to download and install software while the system is powered down. According to the developer's <a href="https://twitter.com/HLGames/status/318001470811279360">Twitter</a> account, those that already bought the game will receive 10 revive tokens for free to make up for the price change.<br /><br /><em>Sonic Dash</em> also received an update recently that added daily challenges to the game, which will reward players with content such as Red Star Rings and new characters. Santa Monica Studio Community Strategist Aaron Kaufman posted on the PlayStation Blog to explained the changes introduced by the game's patch.<br /><br />Found in Chapter 28 of the game's single-player campaign, the 'Trial of Archimedes' pits Kratos against waves of enemies as he ascends a tower toward <em>Ascension</em>'s final chapter. The tweak will now provide players across all difficulties with a slew of "green health orbs and a nominal amount of blue magic orbs" after each successive wave, of which there are three.<br /><br />"In every God of War game, establishing a well-paced difficulty ramp towards the end of the game is paramount to us. Based on player response, the degree of challenge offered here was short of our goal of being perfectly balanced," Kaufman wrote.<br /><br />The 1.03 patch also adds new, visual multiplayer customization options called "Marks" that players can obtain based on a number of criteria, including selected allegiance. The update should automatically install on Steam, so unfortunately there's no way to keep that particular glitch (feature?) in your game.<br /><br />When <em>Colonial Marines</em> launched in February, we found it to be a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/12/aliens-colonial-marines-review/">broken, unfinished mess</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/12/metareview-aliens-colonial-marines/">most others agreed</a>. Since it hit stores, developers Gearbox, TimeGate and publisher Sega have yet to agree where the blame lies. That's our impression of the Wii U's user interface, and what you have to do to improve it. Speaking with Time, Shigeru Miyamoto said that "We think that by this summer, the system is going to be very much improved over how it's performing currently." He noted that interactions between various applications are more easily tested in the wild, "to understand how they're using those features and what they're doing as they're switching between them."<br /><br />A system update based on Nintendo's observations of user behavior and Wii U performance is due this spring. "What we want to do is make sure that when we release it, that we address as many of the different opinions about how people would like to see the system improve as we can at once. We hope to cover a wide range of requests while simultaneously ensuring it's a very stable update to the system."<br /><br />On its <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/support/information/2013/0307.html?link=rss">information page</a> for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/07/error-code-105-3102-keeps-wii-us-out-of-eshop-from-updating-fir/">105-3102 error code</a> that has hit Japan, Nintendo says an update is due in April. Whether the update contains these upcoming UI fixes, or is just focused on fixing the error, is unclear. In addition to the new map, the update also includes five new versions of <a href="http://mwomercs.com/game/battlemechs/medium/trebuchet">a mech called the Trebuchet</a>, which specializes in long range combat and carries medium weight.<br /><br />Finally, the newest update also adds in what Pirahna Games is calling "Phase 3" of the matchmaking system, which will allow players of the same skill to find and compete against each other in a balanced way, despite what mech they're driving. The new system also allows for cosmetic holograms in the cockpit, so you can now show off any House Faction loyalties you happen to have. Us, we're partial to Winterfell, but -- oh wait, wrong setting. The most notable changes involve the ability to reset all outposts - allowing you to assault and capture each one again -and a new higher difficulty mode called Master.<br /><br />On the multiplayer side, the additions focus on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/27/far-cry-3-map-editor-lets-you-build-and-burn-your-own-locales/">user-generated maps</a>. Ubisoft promises a "more intuitive feedback interface" with the ability to add "feedback tags" to better parse custom maps. There will also be beta map testing available to editors, so they no longer need to create a map and simply publish it. Others who wish to help during beta testing of these maps can hop into a special playlist and test it out, and authors can go into a spectator mode to watch those playing.<br /><br />Ubisoft promises a series of patches to add all of this stuff to <em>Far Cry 3</em>, so don't expect it all at once. The update comes with some <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/gregaman/blog/2013/02/13/bloody-palace-other-tweaks-coming-to-dmc-next-week-via-free-update">bonus bug fixes</a>, including the removal of a glitch that renders the succubus Poison non-interactive, fixes to style points calculations, increased damage from the weakest enemies, increased damage from all enemies in Nephilim and Son of Sparda modes, and no more <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYrW06SyVTc">infinite angel glide</a>.<br /><br />Sorry, Dante. But as hard as the task will be, Pitchford has confirmed Gearbox will do it, predicting on Twitter a <a href="https://twitter.com/DuvalMagic/status/300058759106007040">"100% chance"</a> that we'll see a level cap increase this year.<br /><br />He then goes on to admit that he's only "50\50 on unforeseen consequences that some people will rage about." Obviously, by definition, we can't foresee those, but Pitchford says there's no end of possible issues to the game, from skill tree balance to leveled-up enemies to even things like shotgun shell counting. One bug in the game, Pitchford says, applied a shotgun bonus to every single bullet in a shotgun blast rather than just the gun in general.<br /><br />"Sometimes we trap ourselves. We get painted into corners on things. It's tricky," Pitchford said in an interview with <a href="http://venturebeat.com/2013/02/07/borderlands-2-level-cap-increase/">VentureBeat</a>. "But we're committed to it." After the patch is issued, <em>Stranger's Wrath HD</em> will include an option to disable the PS Vita's rear touch-pad controls. Patch 0.10.0 hit yesterday, at the same time as the Triton avatar pack, which boasts naval-themed avatars.<br /><br />The new mode, Holdout, sees teams race to a single capture point and attempt to defend it until the end of the match. Balaklava Sub-Pen, the update's new map, was designed specifically for Holdout rounds. It's a symmetrical, compact area inspired by a secret underground submarine facility in Ukraine that was operational until 1933. Clan Matches build upon the implementation of October's Clan feature, allowing players to set up matches against other clans.<br /><br />The Triton pack offers new helmets and armor vests, upgraded weapons and seaborne avatars. The Triton pack will be available for a limited time, during January only. Of course, the attire in question is swimsuits. While we can't exactly gnash our fangs over a freebie like <em>SFxMM</em>, there's no doubt V2 brings some very welcome fixes and additions.<br /><br />None more so than the addition of passwords, meaning we don't have to start the game from scratch every time we exit it. In December <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/27/diablo-3-team-deathmatch-goes-back-to-the-drawing-board-duel/">Blizzard said</a> it would work on a dueling system, though there was no word on how it would work. Today's preview solves some of that mystery: Dueling will be a safe environment for players to kick the crud out of each other, devoid of "the potential for griefing as it existed in <em>Diablo 2</em>," Blizzard writes.<br /><br />Players who wish to duel must speak with Nek the Brawler at the inn in New Tristram, who will transport the party to the Scorched Chapel, a new area designed specifically for dueling. Scorched Chapel has four areas, the church, graveyard, river and lake, and supports up to four players in free-for-all battles. Dueling doesn't offer any rewards aside from bragging rights, and death in the dueling area isn't permanent, even for Hardcore players.<br /><br />Other updates in patch 1.0.7 include class updates, crafting additions, monster power and affix changes, and quality of life improvements. The delay is due to the file size of the update itself, according to XBLA Fan's <a href="http://www.xblafans.com/microsoft-holding-up-skullgirls-xbla-patch-due-to-size-restrictions-61789.html">translation</a> of a <a href="https://twitter.com/SkullgirlsJP/statuses/287398860337332224">tweet</a> from the official Japanese <em>Skullgirls</em> account.<br /><br />While Microsoft limits XBLA updates to just four megs, the fighter's Slightly Different Edition patch weighs in at 590 megabytes. Being granted an exception to the rule is apparently possible, though subsequently time consuming. No announcements have been made regarding an expected completion date for the whole deal.<br /><br />Though dubbed <em>Slightly Different</em>, the patch changes an <a href="http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/11-20-psn-sg-slightly-different-edition-patch-notes.163719/">impressive number</a> of details for each character in <em>Skullgirls</em>, in addition to adding further modes and UI improvements. It's also supposed to decrease load times, though the patch itself seems to be suffering from quite a long one.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> We were contacted by Lab Zero Games' Peter Bartholow, who clarified the situation a bit further. "We've been working with MS developer support and have managed to reduce the size of the update significantly," Bartholow said. It's been present in every Devil May Cry save for the first, and features leaderboards in <em>4 </em>and this new one.
