I gotta be honest with you guys: I thought I'd never get a chance to do one of these videos ever again. It seemed like Nintendo had forgotten about the poor old Virtual Console and left it to rot like some kind of thing that wasn't supposed to be left out and was then subsequently forgotten about. Uh, yeah, that sounds about right.

Anyway, I'm just glad to be back. Head past the break for the latest episode of VC in Brief, featuring Iguana Entertainment's Aero the Acro-Bat.
Mario Tennis is a pretty important game for two reasons: 1.) it's made by Camelot -- you know, the same guys doing Golden Sun: Dark Dawn -- and 2.) it's one of the best semi-modern Tennis games starring Mario and crew. No, we're not counting Mario's Tennis on the Virtual Boy because, man, we still get headaches thanks to that game -- why would you even suggest that one?

So head past the break and check out the latest episode of VC in Brief below. We promise it won't induce migraines. At least, we hope it won't.
Natsume's Wild Guns is a great arcade experience that both fans of shooters and crazy interpretations of historical events can get behind. After a forced hiatus, Nintendo has finally released a new Virtual Console game -- and a good one, at that. We're talking about Kirby Super Star, a content-rich SNES offering from HAL Laboratory. There's nothing flashy or particularly complex about Zaxxon, other than the difficulty of quickly ascertaining your altitude and relative safety in your immediate surroundings. Basically, you crash into stuff or get shot by stuff or run out of gas and then crash into stuff, as you can see in the latest episode of VC in Brief above. It's a tough life out there in space, gunning down countless unmarked ships, missile silos and cannons -- believe.

It's quite the example of how to make a really fun and intense shoot-em-up -- yet, many may be a bit apprehensive due to its hefty price tag. Well, that's what VC in Brief is for! Sample the game for yourself in our video above and decide if it's worth your double sawbuck.
Seriously, Ogre Battle 64 is one of the more huge games on the N64 console. It's a traditional fantasy title -- a SRPG, if you want to go all technical on it -- and relies upon many of the genre's staples. As such, the above video weighs in at over 10 minutes. It's without a doubt the longest video we've done yet.

It's pretty obvious given the lack of a Virtual Console release today, but we still felt it worth pointing out to those of you expecting a new VC in Brief video. But, hey, this gives you a chance to catch up on our archives, if you've missed any -- or you could just download Cave Story, which is what you should probably be doing.
PSA: There will be no VC in Brief today originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 22 Mar 2010 17:00:00 EST. As far as imports go, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is a pretty sweet one. For $9, it's a great game to add to any Castlevania fan's collection and plays quite well on the Wii: casual players get a forgiving save structure and stage system, while the hardcore fans get the same tried-and-true gameplay. Rondo of Blood is suited for quick pick-up sessions or even long marathon outings. Basically: you should play this game. It's good -- seriously good.
Not only was it the first to introduce the ATB system (Active Time Battle), but it also had an incredibly ambitious plot and, frankly, a downright great opening sequence. It would help bring the world to the JRPG (and vice versa), so however you choose to play through this bit of classic gaming, do it. You owe it to yourself to do that at least once in your life.

Even though things are kinda overshadowed by a certain other release today, we've still got a new game to play. The latest episode of VC in Brief above checks out Fatal Fury Special, an improved version of Fatal Fury 2 with more playable characters and gameplay tweaks. Check it out above!

As you may have gathered from the lack of a Virtual Console release in the the latest NintendoWare Weekly update, there won't be a VC in Brief video today. The <strike>disturbance in your heart</strike> lack of a new VC game is probably confirmation enough, but in the interest of "playing it safe," we present this post ...

Yeah, so, it's by no means a suitable substitute, however, if you're itching for some video to watch, check out the VC in Brief archive. This week's release is quite the treat. Sonic & Knuckles was a great game when it released back in the day, made even greater if you had yourself Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 -- which you probably did. Now that experience is on the Virtual Console and if, like me, you have both of those games downloaded on your Wii, you can relive the experience all over again.

Or you can just watch the above episode of VC in Brief for free.
It's tough for us to provide you with a comprehensive look at a genre with so much content -- plus all of the trial-and-error. It wouldn't make for a very comprehensive and enlightening video, however we soldier on. Check out the latest episode of VC in Brief above!
This time around, the game plays a little slower: the controls seem a little clunkier (I have to shoot my gun before I can start dashing?) and the environments are bigger and present far too many dead-ends ... literally. Still, it's a potent formula and on the whole, the game is great fun, even if it's not as endearing as Neighbors. For one, we've got the ultra-aggressive coin-op classic, Ninja Gaiden, to check out. Then, on top of that, the game that spawned one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises: Super Smash Bros. for the N64. If that doesn't put a smile on your face, then you just may be one of the most depressed people on Earth. We suggest consulting a doctor.

For one, it's delicious in that we wish we could have some of those jelly beans the Blob in A Boy and His Blob is snacking on -- well, except for the ketchup ones. Even we don't like those!

Secondly, it's delicious because ... uh, we may not have thought that far ahead, But, hey, Super Mario Kart! Have you been adequately distracted from our mental lapse? Check out the video above!
One is a fighting game with a superior version already on the service, while the other is a pretty good Factor 5 joint for the SNES. If you fancy yourself an Indy fan (not that kinda Indy), then you'll definitely want to check out the video above.
Actually, you should probably just watch it anyway. You know, just to be safe.

Luckily, the quarter-munching gameplay of the arcade classic translates to the Wii very well. For one, you don't need to run out of quarters from dying -- oh, and you will die, believe it. Second, every time you die or even continue once you've run out of lives, you pick up right from where you left off. So, there's no replaying stages or sections of the game you've previously played as a result of dying. Have we mentioned how much you'll die?

You will die. A lot.

Final Fight 2 (SNES, 1 -2 players, 800 Wii Points)

This week's offering punches the Virtual Console silly, continuing the adventures of everyone's favorite wrestler-turned-politician (What, you think Jesse Ventura deserves that honor? Pfft ...) in Final Fight 2. It doesn't innovate or really add much more to the original experience -- well, except for more dudes to punch. There are plenty more thugs to beat on, that's for sure. But what it lacks in innovation, it makes up for in dudes to punch. Seriously, do you wanna punch dudes? Because that's totally what's going on here.

The first Final Fantasy needs no introduction. It's a timeless classic and influential in countless ways, so it definitely deserves a playthrough. We'd say more, but there isn't really much else to say about one of the most important games ever.

If you have a PS2, there's a Sega Genesis Collection that's a more financially responsible way to play. If you've only got the Wii and have never played this, though, it might be worth your double sawbuck. Check out the video above and decide.

This week's VC in Brief is all about Last Ninja 2, the story of one ninja trapped in 1988 New York city. For me, it was more the story of ninja persecution at the hands of the NYPD, but, to be fair, juggling clowns in the park didn't seem to like me either. Regardless, I found that Last Ninja 2 -- much like its predecessor -- just isn't for me.

The Virtual Console gets hit with a nasty case of flying shurikens this week in The Revenge of Shinobi.
