Adorable as that sounds, the virus attached to several Android games found on third-party Chinese app stores could be used to allow the attacker remote control of your Android-enabled device. Folks who picked up copies of <em>Monkey Jump 2</em>, <em>Sex Positions</em>, <em>President vs. Aliens</em> ... wait, <em>what</em>? <em>Sex Positions</em>?! <br />
<br />
Anyway, the list also includes <em>City Defense</em> and <em>Baseball Superstars 2010</em> (among others), and the only versions found affected thus far are those distributed via Chinese app stores -- "the original versions available in the official Google Android Market have not been affected," notes mobile security firm <a href="http://blog.mylookout.com/2010/12/geinimi_trojan/">Lookout</a>. "Though the intent of this Trojan isn't entirely clear, the possibilities range from setting up a malicious mobile ad network to creating an Android <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet">botnet</a>," the company added. And while the Trojan has yet to pop up on North America-based Android devices, Lookout CTO Kevin Mahaffey noted, "possible infected apps could be posted to app stores targeting US users in the future."<br />
<br />
If you've managed to end up with Geimini on your Android device, well, stop downloading games from third-party Chinese app stores. Also, you might want to look into security software that Lookout offers for free <a href="https://www.mylookout.com/download">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/31/trojan-found-attached-to-several-android-games-in-china/">Trojan found attached to several Android games in China</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Dec 2010 00:00:00 EST. Sure, we all do. That's why it's important to have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/a-closer-look-at-resident-evil-5s-progenitor-virus-kit/">Tricell Progenitor Virus Detection Kit</a> in your home. <br /><br />These kits, available now from the <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayProductDetailsPage&amp;SiteID=capcomus&amp;Locale=en_US&amp;Env=BASE&amp;productID=120691700">Capcom Store</a>, also provide suitable, though temporary, treatment for the condition known as "Not Having Enough Ridiculous Swag in Your House." And since <em>Resident Evil 5</em> has turned out to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/march-npd-capcom-wins-at-software-while-consoles-drop/">kind of popular</a>, we expect supplies to run out for this item soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2009/04/16/re5_tricell_progenitor_virus_detection__suppression_kit_available_today">Capcom Unity</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/secure-an-re5-progenitor-virus-kit-before-its-too-late/">Secure an RE5 Progenitor Virus kit before it's too late</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Apr 2009 19:30:00 EST. Justin <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/video-unboxing-the-resident-evil-5-collectors-edition/">showed off</a> some of the wares in his unboxing video, and we decided to don the rubber gloves and face mask, and activate the included discs inside the kit. You can see the resulting video above. While not really groundbreaking or heart attack inducing (like the game), Disc #1 declared our MacBook Pro to be 98% "infected." And people claim the Mac is virus-free.<br /><br />The phone number that pops up when the second disc runs is (718) TRI-9446, and it connects you to a support line for the virus which currently has a hold time of 72 hours. Sound familiar? It's a bit similar to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/fallout-3s-vault-tec-toll-free-number-wants-you-to-hold-forever/"><em>Fallout 3</em> number</a> you could call (and still can) to get put on interminable hold with Vault-tec systems. Interestingly, the Tricell number lets you leave a message. Naturally, we left one to see if we might get a call back. OH PLEASE OH PLEASE. We need more rubber gloves.<br /><br />NOTE: We heard from a Capcom rep that the "0% infection rate" happens only 5% of the time. So I guess we're ultra-rare at Joystiq. There are five different possible results, and we just happened to strike on the most visually boring one. Oops. We'll strive for a reshoot soon and add it to this post.... if we can find the PS3 in the dumpster.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/a-closer-look-at-resident-evil-5s-progenitor-virus-kit/">A closer look at Resident Evil 5's Progenitor Virus kit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 16:47:00 EST. All right, kiddies, we know all of you out there have dutifully <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/is-the-iphone-app-store-a-threat-to-the-ds/">replaced your DS with a gaming-powered iPhone 2.0</a>, but with all that gaming power comes the responsibility to be careful. Thus, you should all be on the lookout for a new Windows virus masquerading as apparently popular iPhone game <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/2008/03/01/penguin-panic-16/"><em>Penguin Panic</em></a>. <br /><br />According to <a href="http://www.sophos.com/blogs/gc/g/2008/09/17/hackers-distribute-trojan-as-iphone-game/">Sophos</a>, the computer-controlling Trojan shows up as a zipped attachment to an e-mail with a subject like "Virtual iPhone games!" or "Apple: The most popular game!" Ironically, it seems the virus won't actually infect your iPhone or any Mac-based computers. It also seems incapable of infecting other portable gaming systems, which should be a relief to those of you still living in the past with those long-defunct platforms.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/19/virus-alert-trojan-poses-as-iphone-game/">Virus Alert: Trojan poses as iPhone game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Sep 2008 17:45:00 EST. As a beta tester for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/secondlife"><em>Second Life</em></a>, Farmer was responsible for one of the first legendary events in the game: the Jessie Massacre. Out of curiosity, he created a weapon of mass destruction and unleashed it on a community of former WWII gamers. The resulting mayhem made him the target of more than a few nasty looks, but to the rest of the community he was thought of as a hero. <br /><br />Using the <em>SL</em> creation tools, Farmer constructed tiny, almost invisible objects and programmed them to explode into dozens of fragments, flying out at maximum velocity and doing loads of damage. Afterwards the fragments teleport themselves to a random location and start the carnage again. The only way to stop them was for Farmer to shout "STOP!".<br /><br />As you can guess, chaos ensued when the WMD was unleashed in the town of Jessie. Farmer quickly decided his completely scientific beta testing experiment was a success and went to disarm the grenades. Then he ran into a small problem: he couldn't find the little invisible buggers. With help from Linden labs he managed to remove the bombs, but the legend of the Jesse Massacre lives on.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/05/how_a_virtual_world_inventor_b.php">GameSetWatch</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/user-created-wmds-do-massage-damage-in-second-life-beta-test/">User-created WMDs do massive damage in Second Life beta test</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 May 2007 09:16:00 EST. If what you're looking for, however, is a game with more mature themes -- nudity and sexual content -- it's doubtful that your needs will be met. Japanese dating sims and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=doki+doki+majo">witch fondling titles</a> notwithstanding, the DS doesn't have any <em>Leisure Suit Larrys</em>, Hot Coffee mods, or even porno-<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tetris">Tetris</a></em> clones.<br /><br />But just like any other scene, the Nintendo DS has a network of people working outside of the fringe to create those illicit goods you'd never ask for at a respectable shop. It's published in Japan by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaleco">JALECO</a>, who published things like the NES port of <em>Maniac Mansion</em> and <em>Irritating Stick </em>for the Playstation-- we didn't even know they still existed. <br /><br />The gameplay looks like a slightly novel puzzle game based around capturing same-colored items inside a wide beam. But the art is <em>stunning.</em> The DS can do some excellent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/2d">2D</a> in the right hands, and <em>Puchi Puchi Virus</em> has some of the best we've seen recently. The characters are vibrant and presented in an anime style, while the backgrounds are more in the whimsical, highly-stylized form of modern Western animation like <em>Dexter's Laboratory.</em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/puchi-puchi-virus-has-surprisingly-excellent-art/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Puchi Puchi Virus has surprisingly excellent art</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/puchi-puchi-virus-has-surprisingly-excellent-art/">Puchi Puchi Virus has surprisingly excellent art</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 15:38:00 EST. If <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/28/homebrew-impostor-will-brick-your-system/">fake downgraders</a> that bricked your PSP weren't enough, apparently another piece of malicious code has hit the web: a supposed plugin for the PSP will allow your system to play AVI, DivX and Xvid files. The program, created by a programmer named "Sc00p," is in fact, littered with trojans that will attempt to infect your PC. Uncool. While it won't brick the PSP, it may be able to harm your computer.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=329914#post329914">DCEmu</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/15/divx-and-xvid-support-too-good-to-be-true/">DivX &amp; Xvid support too good to be true</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Jan 2007 17:00:00 EST. It disguises itself as a "usb kxploit" and features folder names "SDL-TEST-5 and SDL-TEST-5%" (although this can change at any moment, of course). The file seems to be around 74kb, so make sure you double-check any files you download off the web for PSP use. A <a href="http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=11920">virus scanner</a> is available for PSP files, so you may want to check it out.<br /><br />No one wants to have a $200 piece of bricked hardware, right?<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://www.shindakun.net">steve</a>!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/09/psp-virus-in-the-wild/">PSP virus in the wild</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Oct 2006 02:20:00 EST.
