A <a href="https://www.waystonegames.com/betaSignup/intro">website</a> for a new fantasy MOBA called <em>Dawngate</em> launched this morning, listing EA and a company called Waystone Games as involved. As spotted by online sleuth <a href="https://twitter.com/supererogatory/status/334946132440539136">superannuation</a>, the site apparently launched early. Links to Twitch. Twitter, and YouTube lead to accounts either inactive or private.<br />
<br />
"<em>Dawngate</em> is a new MOBA," the page reads, "Built from the ground up to look and feel familiar while offering a whole new way to experience MOBA gameplay. <em>Dawngate</em> empowers you to forge the champions you love for the roles you want in a competitive arena, shaped by ever-evolving, community-driven content and story."<br />
<br />
Superannuation suggests <em>Dawngate</em> is the MOBA <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/09/visceral-games-may-be-working-on-a-moba-game/">seemingly outed</a> by Visceral Games job listings late last year, and that Visceral's free-to-play group has been renamed Waystone Games. Apart from the little that's on the site, there's no other info on the studio.<br />
<br />
Earlier this year, it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/05/report-dead-space-4-canceled-after-poor-dead-space-3-sales/">speculated</a> Visceral had undergone massive restructuring following below-target sales of <em>Dead Space 3</em>, claims which EA strenuously denied. EA recently announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/ea-lays-off-900-employees-in-organizational-restructuring/">900 layoffs</a> across its total workforce as part of organizational restructuring.<br />
<br />
The<em> Dawngate</em> website has a page that allows users to register for a chance to take part in an upcoming beta. As far as we could see, signing up requires an Origin account.<br />
<br />
We've reached out to EA for comment.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/dawngate-site-points-to-new-ea-moba/">Dawngate site points to new EA MOBA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 May 2013 05:00:00 EST. Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen stated during the company's year-end <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/ea-revenues-over-1b-in-fiscal-q4-down-from-last-year/">financial call</a> yesterday that <em>Dead Space 3</em> and <em>Crysis 3</em> didn't meet sales expectations, but avoided providing any sales numbers. We do know EA <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/16/riccitiello-says-it-would-take-dead-space-3-for-franchise-to-p/">planned</a> on a strong showing at launch of <em>Dead Space 3</em>, since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/16/riccitiello-says-it-would-take-dead-space-3-for-franchise-to-p/"><em>Dead Space 2</em>'s launch beat the original game two-to-one</a>, according to the company. Data provided by NPD reveals <em>DS3</em> didn't even perform as well as <em>DS2</em> at retail.<br />
<br />
A straight comparison of <em>Dead Space 3</em> versus <em>Dead Space 2</em> 'at the same life stage' would be difficult, since <em>DS2</em> launched late in January of '11 and <em>DS3</em> came out in early February this year.<br />
<br />
"<em>Dead Space 3</em> units sales were only two percent lower than <em>Dead Space 2</em>," NPD told us, comparing the per day average.<br />
<br />
Although the latest sequel's retail performance didn't meet the publisher's forecast, EA <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/05/report-dead-space-4-canceled-after-poor-dead-space-3-sales/">emphatically denied in early March</a> that production of <em>Dead Space 4</em> had been cancelled.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/dead-space-3-sales-below-ea-expectation-pace-slower-than-sequel/">Dead Space 3 sales below EA expectation, pace slower than sequel at retail</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 May 2013 17:30:00 EST. It was to serve as an epilogue to the game, presumably providing some clarity on the more nebulous plot points. It also promised to return players to the sort of horror that was more pronounced in the first two Dead Space games, a horror born of claustrophobia and psychosis.<br /><br />Awakened delivers on these two points to a certain extent, but much more so on the former.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/">Dead Space 3 'Awakened' DLC (03/07/2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694638"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694641"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Space 3 Awakened DLC review: Event horizon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-review/">Dead Space 3 Awakened DLC review: Event horizon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Mar 2013 15:45:00 EST. The first to impact your irises is the story-continuing 'Awakened' DLC for <em>Dead Space 3</em>, and it's <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-CA/Product/Dead-Space-3-Awakened/704f6694-07d8-4615-85cc-649cd95092e8">available now on XBLA</a> for 800 MSP. It hits PSN and PC later today, priced $9.99.<br /><br />Also due on PSN later today are the 30 additional VR missions for <em>Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance</em>, and they're completely free until April 3. In an odd twist, the DLC is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/06/metal-gear-risings-ps3-exclusive-dlc-coming-march-12/">exclusive</a> to PS3 in the US and Canada for the time being, but outside those regions it's <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Product/VR-Mission-Expansion/ba7fb2de-8f1b-4d6d-af11-3ff2f751092d">available now on XBLA</a> for 240 MSP - a slice of curious console exclusivity to get the morning started.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/12/psa-dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-mgr-revengeance-vr-missions/">PSA: Dead Space 3 'Awakened' DLC, MGR: Revengeance 'VR Missions' out today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Mar 2013 08:00:00 EST. On the contrary, producer Shereif Fattouh seemed completely optimistic about the game's reception and its place within the Dead Space universe during a recent preview of the upcoming 'Awakened' add-on content.<br /><br />"Whenever you release a title, you're gonna get the positives and negatives. We as a dev team are really proud of the game we made. We feel it was very true to the franchise and we're excited to put it out," Fattouh told Joystiq. "There are people that have criticisms, and that's everybody's right. For us, we put a lot of our heart and soul into the game and we feel it's enjoyable."<br /><br />Fattouh's description of Awakened paints the picture of a campaign add-on that hews closer to the spirit of previous entries in the series. The 'creep factor' was indeed high in our hands-on demo, which sends Isaac back to the CMS Terra Nova's Conning Tower, after it's been overrun by a Necromorph-worshipping cult of scarification practitioners. Strange symbols and unsettling altars that mash together human corpses with Necro parts line the walls.<br /><br />"We had a vision for what we wanted to make with our DLC," Fattouh explained. "The nice thing about it is it kind of married into what some of the more hardcore community guys were asking for. They didn't feel that there was as much horror as they would have liked [in <em>Dead Space 3</em>]."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/">Dead Space 3 'Awakened' DLC (03/07/2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694638"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-03-07-2013/#5694641"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/ds3dlc005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/07/bringing-horror-out-of-stasis-in-dead-space-3s-awakened-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bringing horror out of stasis in Dead Space 3's 'Awakened' DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/07/bringing-horror-out-of-stasis-in-dead-space-3s-awakened-dlc/">Bringing horror out of stasis in Dead Space 3's 'Awakened' DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Mar 2013 09:00:00 EST. According to the site, who spoke to an anonymous source familiar with the unannounced project, the publisher terminated the development of <em>Dead Space 4</em> in light of <em>Dead Space 3</em> failing to achieve its sales targets.<br /><br />VideoGamer's source claims EA executives informed Visceral Montreal last month of the cancelation along with details of the company's restructuring plans. Two weeks ago, EA did <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/21/ea-announces-layoffs-in-la-montreal/">announce</a> layoffs at its studios in Los Angeles and Montreal. <span>The source also claims <em>Dead Space 3</em> "was almost canceled" mid-development, and that EA told Visceral to bring in a wider audience than previous series entries did by focusing more on action than horror.<br /><br />EA believed <em>Dead Space 3</em> could comfortably outsell its predecessors, with company CEO John Riccitiello <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/16/riccitiello-says-it-would-take-dead-space-3-for-franchise-to-p/">saying</a> he could see the game selling 5 million units. EA <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/30/ea-dead-space-3-crysis-3-pre-sales-tracking-ahead-of-previous/">announced</a> <em>Dead Space 3</em> pre-orders were "outpacing" those for <em>Dead Space 2 </em>in January's earnings call, although the publisher didn't disclose by what margin.<br /><br />We've reached out to EA for comment.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: "</span>While we have not announced sales for <em>Dead Space 3</em>, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA," an Electronic Arts spokesperson informed Joystiq.<br /><br /><strong>Update 2:</strong> EA responded to <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/03/05/dead-space-4-allegedly-killed-ea-responds">IGN</a>, stating the claims here are "flat-out not true" and that it's business as usual at Visceral Montreal right now.<br /><br /><strong>Update 3:</strong> To further clarify, EA sent us an additional statement. "These rumours are patently false. While we have not released sales data for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and it continues to be an important IP to EA. Appreciate your help bringing down this baseless rumour."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/05/report-dead-space-4-canceled-after-poor-dead-space-3-sales/">Report: Dead Space 4 canceled after Dead Space 3 sells below targets [update 3]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Mar 2013 07:00:00 EST. We know Awakened is coming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-coming-next-month/">sometime next month</a>, but a post on the official Dead Space Twitter (now deleted, but screencapped after the break) in response to this <a href="https://twitter.com/ToneSibley/status/304742402697097217">tweet</a> clearly noted a March 3 date. However, when asked about it later, <a href="https://twitter.com/deadspace/status/304999825567531008">another post</a> reverted to the March release window, and "no precise dates" as yet.<br /><br />It seems there are crossed wires at whoever's in charge of the Twitter feed, and the date may well be a mistake - March 3 is a Sunday, which is a bit unusual for DLC - so take it with a pinch of salt. In any case, we've reached out to EA for comment.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: An EA representative has told us that the company has "not announced a specific release date in March for <em>Dead Space 3</em> Awakened."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/22/rumor-dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-rouses-march-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: Dead Space 3 Awakened DLC rouses March 3 [Update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/22/rumor-dead-space-3-awakened-dlc-rouses-march-3/">Rumor: Dead Space 3 Awakened DLC rouses March 3 [Update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Feb 2013 17:17:00 EST. Thankfully, a pair of deals have made purchasing <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-space-3"><em>Dead Space 3</em></a> a little less frightening. Groupon is offering either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version for <a href="http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-dead-space-3">$42.99</a>. We know, shock horror (ho ho ho), but more interesting is that the third main entry in the series scored 26.6 percent less UK launch sales than its predecessor. 65 percent of those sales were for the Xbox 360 version, 31 percent for PS3, and 4 percent for PC (although that discounts digital purchases).<br /><br />Last week's leader, <em>Ni no Kuni</em>, dropped to sixth following a 63 percent dip in sales. More alarmingly, after just four weeks <em>DmC: Devil May Cry</em> slumped all the way down to 25th. That's concerning considering how quiet 2013's been in terms of major releases so far.<br /><br />As for the rest of this week's ten best-sellers, there's been barely any movement. The remaining standouts are <em>Hitman: HD Trilogy</em>, which held steady in fifth place, and <em>Sonic &amp; All-Stars Racing Transformed</em>, which entered the top ten for the first time on the back of the newly released 3DS version.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/11/dead-space-3-rockets-to-top-spot-in-this-weeks-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Space 3 rockets to top spot in this week's UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/11/dead-space-3-rockets-to-top-spot-in-this-weeks-uk-charts/">Dead Space 3 rockets to top spot in this week's UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Feb 2013 08:00:00 EST. The method for obtaining said resources, skirting the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/22/dead-space-3-adds-microtransactions-to-series-demo-out-today/">microtransaction system</a>, won't be patched out, either.<br /><br />"The resource-earning mechanic in <em>Dead Space 3</em> is not a glitch. We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game. We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free. We've deliberately designed <em>Dead Space 3</em> to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game," EA rep Jino Talens said.<br /><br />The microtransaction model, which allows players to skip the resource-gathering at a cost, is still an option for players. "For those that wish to accumulate upgrades instantly, we have enabled an optional system for them to buy the resources at a minimal cost ($1-$3)," Talens added. With the farming glitch going unchecked, it's more likely that <em>Dead Space 3</em> players will spend that money on cheap burritos.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/09/dead-space-3-resource-farming-glitch-wont-be-patched-is-intent/">Dead Space 3 resource farming glitch won't be patched, is intentional</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 Feb 2013 13:30:00 EST. And now that <em>Dead Space 3</em> is here, you can, again. But is it any good? The Joystiq Chief of the Astronaut Office <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/dead-space-3-review/">certainly thought so</a>, deeming the series' third main entry an "exciting, shocking, and mammoth adventure through the ghostly, unvarnished segments of space."<br /><br />But it's a big old universe with plenty of opinions floating about, and not all of them are so positive. Here's a sampling of a few that popped up on the meta-radar.<br /><div> <ul> <li> <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/games/dead_space_3/b/ps3/archive/2013/02/05/chewed-up-spit-out-and-back-for-more.aspx">Game Informer</a> <strong>(98/100)</strong>: "<em>Dead Space 3</em> is still creepy, but this entry is more action-packed than previous games. That's a good thing. Isaac's intuitive new dodge roll makes avoiding the larger nercromorph attacks more manageable."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.polygon.com/game/dead-space-3/2886">Polygon</a> <strong>(95/100)</strong>: "Visceral hasn't just avoided screwing up its game with co-op - it has made it feel natural and at home, and has done it without impacting the single-player experience in any negative way. That alone would be enough to make <em>Dead Space 3</em> an achievement. But the new crafting system and bigger, more open level structure join co-op to make <em>Dead Space 3</em> one of the best action games in years.</li> <li> <a href="http://uk.gamespot.com/dead-space-3/reviews/dead-space-3-review-6403319/">GameSpot</a> <strong>(80/100)</strong>: "This is a game rife with options and flexibility, building on the strengths of the franchise with clever new ideas that let you tailor the experience to your liking. It hits a few sour notes in its story and struggles at times when it steps away from the core combat, but <em>Dead Space 3</em> is a thrilling and worthwhile sequel."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-05-dead-space-3-review">Eurogamer</a> <strong>(70/100)</strong>: "<em>Dead Space 3</em> is a contradiction. Gorgeous but scruffy; tightly packed yet stretched too thin; often frustrating, frequently thrilling and bursting at the seams with stuff, not all of which fits comfortably inside the boundaries the series has set for itself. It's certainly not a great game, except perhaps as a poster child for the kitchen-sink development mentality of a console generation in its twilight months."</li> <li> <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/reviews/dead_space_3_review.html">Videogamer</a> <strong>(50/100)</strong>: "<em>Dead Space 3</em> is a let down because it's not a very good action game, and a really substandard horror game. The torture is self-inflicted, and I only increased the severity by playing the game without company, without light and without those regular breaks they used to warn you about in the manual (ask your parents). The inclusion of co-op has made the solo stress no less potent.<br /><br />I was consumed by caution, leered at every suspicious air vent (protip: they're all like that), loathed every single monster, and stomped their revolting corpses with wild catharsis and fanaticism. Isaac Clarke may be the respectable engineer-turned-hero now, but I suspect his childhood siblings cowered in the closet every time he lifted his boot and brought it down in the rhythm of temper tantrums.<br /><br />All of these things, the concern over ammunition and health, the detestable creatures, the unnerving titter of what sounds like violin strings left in the rain, the creepy creaks and groans of a crappy space ship (protip: they're all like that) - all of these things make <em>Dead Space 3</em> another extravagantly crafted concoction of horror, action and anxiety. So, no, it's not exactly "fun."<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-2-5-2013/">Dead Space 3 (2/5/2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-2-5-2013/#5617968"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/ds302_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-2-5-2013/#5617969"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/ds304_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-2-5-2013/#5617970"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/ds306_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-2-5-2013/#5617971"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/ds307_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-2-5-2013/#5617972"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/ds308_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/dead-space-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dead Space 3 review: Take down the terror, just a notch</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/dead-space-3-review/">Dead Space 3 review: Take down the terror, just a notch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 09:00:00 EST. That's what a hint by game producer Steve Papoutsis seems to suggest, anyway. Papoutsis closed off a blog post today with a vague drop of a "top secret additional story."<br /><br />"As you can see, we have a lot planned for you in <em>DS3</em>," Papoutsis wrote. "And the team is hard at work on a top secret additional story that will be coming in a few weeks. We're not saying much, yet - but think 'disturbing' to get your imaginations going."<br /><br />Papoutsis also revealed there are four modes unlocked by beating the game once, namely New Game+, Classic Mode, Pure Survival Mode, and the return of Hardcore Mode, albeit with a new twist. New Game+ is as it sounds, the mode carrying over your upgrades and weaponry from the completed save. Classic Mode is single-player only, removes crafting, and employs 'classic' aiming to resemble the original <em>Dead Space</em>. Whereas Pure Survival is all about resource management; enemies are the only things that drop any goodies, and there are no ammo, health or weapon packs.<br /><br />Hardcore mode drops the three-saves-and-out of <em>Dead Space 2</em>, and replaces it with something that sounds far more evil. This time, <em>you only have one life</em>... yup, you read that right. And don't think it's something you can just avoid by going back to a previous save; as <a href="http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2013/01/22/dead-space-3-hands-on-preview-ps3/">PlayStation Lifestyle</a> details, once you die the game simply returns you to the start, end of. <em>Evil</em>. If we ever complete it, there better be a reward of free unlimited rainbows.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/29/dead-space-3-producer-teases-story-dlc-in-a-few-weeks-time/">Dead Space 3 producer teases additional story content in 'a few weeks' time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Jan 2013 14:30:00 EST. Apparently there are guards in place to prevent players from buying the best gun in the game right from the start.<br /><br /><em>Dead Space 3</em> associate producer Yara Khoury confirmed the feature, adding that purchases with real world money aren't required in the game. The in-game currency will be offered in different denominations, but there's currently no official details.<br /><br />The game's demo is <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Dead-Space-3-Demo/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802454189a7">available now on Xbox 360</a> and later today for PS3, following the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn-tuesday">PSN udpate</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/22/dead-space-3-adds-microtransactions-to-series-demo-out-today/">Dead Space 3 adds microtransactions to series, demo out today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jan 2013 12:00:00 EST. "We definitely have done some things there."<br /><br />As we discovered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/13/dead-space-3-scares-up-kinect-voice-commands-on-xbox-360/">earlier this month</a>, Kinect voice commands are primarily used to trade items between players and accomplish other communal goals during co-op play. Of course, all that intended functionality will take place after the solid 30 minute swearing session scheduled to commence as soon as the game is first turned on. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/29/curse-that-kinect-of-yours-in-dead-space-3/">Curse that Kinect of yours in Dead Space 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Dec 2012 16:30:00 EST. For example, Isaac and Carver can share items with each other when the player says things like "give Stasis" or "share ammo."<br /><br />EA also had a small room to test out the Kinect functionality, a place I accidentally discovered the best use of the feature: couch co-op. A PR representative was there to supervise and offer help, but she ended up healing me and forcing Isaac to share resources while I concentrated on fighting Necromorphs. It was an interesting and, to be honest, incredibly useful union.<br /><br />Sadly the demo itself was no more than 10 minutes, if that - so there wasn't really anything exciting going on content-wise. But for those who may be more content to watch a pal play <em>Dead Space 3</em> on Xbox 360 rather than pick up the sticks themselves, they can still have a positive impact if there's a Kinect in the room.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-12-13-12/">Dead Space 3 (12/13/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-12-13-12/#5495515"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/dead-space-3ice-demo01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-12-13-12/#5495516"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/dead-space-3ice-demo02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-12-13-12/#5495517"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/dead-space-3ice-demo03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-12-13-12/#5495518"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/dead-space-3ice-demo04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-12-13-12/#5495519"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/dead-space-3ice-demo05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/13/dead-space-3-scares-up-kinect-voice-commands-on-xbox-360/">Dead Space 3 scares up Kinect voice commands on Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Dec 2012 09:20:00 EST. No, we're talking about retailer specific pre-order items for <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-space-3">Dead Space 3</a></em>. Those who plunk down their cash early will receive an in-game gun. GameStop pre-orders get the EG-900 SMG, a "compact but deadly" firearm. Amazon pre-orders, meanwhile, will pick up the Tesla Enervator, which "delivers a precision blast causing instantaneous electrocution and molecular destabilization in the target." We try not to pick favorites when it comes to guns - we love our death-dealers equally - but the Enervator sounds just a <em>tad</em> more interesting.<br /><br />These bonuses come in addition to the content included with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/video/51ef39f5"><em>Dead Space 3</em> limited edition</a>. Those who pre-order <em>Dead Space 3</em> automatically receive the limited edition, which features two bonus suits and two bonus guns.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/03/pre-order-dead-space-3-get-some-in-game-guns/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pre-order Dead Space 3, get some in-game guns [update: video]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/03/pre-order-dead-space-3-get-some-in-game-guns/">Pre-order Dead Space 3, get some in-game guns [update: video]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Dec 2012 13:30:00 EST. In <em>Dead Space 2</em>, the franchise shifted its focus toward the growing blend of action and horror, a direction the <em>Resident Evil</em> franchise has been firmly set on in its last few releases.<br /><br />With <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Dead-Space-3/">Dead Space 3</a></em> Visceral looks to offer more of a balance between action and horror. Though the series is still planted within the action-horror sub-genre, <em>Dead Space 3</em> will attempt to match the level of scares seen in previous entries while ramping up the action as the story progresses.<br /><br />"We don't want to ever just be only action," Chuck Beaver, <i>Dead Space 3</i> story producer, told Joystiq. "I think survival horror is morphing into something else."<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-11-8-12/">Dead Space 3 (11/8/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-11-8-12/#5421672"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/ds3researchfacility01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-11-8-12/#5421673"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/ds3researchfacility03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-11-8-12/#5421674"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/ds3researchfacility04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-11-8-12/#5421675"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/ds3researchfacility05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dead-space-3-11-8-12/#5421676"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/ds3researchfacility07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/09/balancing-horror-and-action-in-dead-space-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Balancing horror and action in Dead Space 3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/09/balancing-horror-and-action-in-dead-space-3/">Balancing horror and action in Dead Space 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Nov 2012 17:00:00 EST. EA will launch <em>Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel</em> on March 26 in the US and March 29 in Europe. Pre-orders will automatically be upgraded to the Overkill Edition of the game, which features an additional three contracts missions.<br /><br />The third entry in the <em>Army of Two</em> series, <em>Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel</em> is being developed by series newcomer Visceral Games, best known for their work on the <em>Dead Space</em> series. <em>Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel</em> is built in Frostbite 2 and will - like its predecessors - heavily lean on co-op mechanics and probably a lot of snarky dialogue.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/01/army-of-two-the-devils-cartel-goes-aggro-on-march-26/">Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel goes aggro on March 26</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2012 13:30:00 EST. The first game poorly chose to take a lighthearted approach to the war in Iraq and in the eyes of series stars Salem and Rios, everyone was a terrorist. <em>The 40th Day</em> made things infinitely more interesting, sending Salem and Rios over to Shanghai where the pair had to keep a watchful eye out for civilians in danger throughout their exploits.<br /><br />In the franchise's third outing, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/army-of-two-the-devils-cartel"><em>Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel</em></a>, the co-op development teams of EA Montreal and Visceral Games have chosen to take the series down another new path. Now Army of Two's third entry, built on DICE's Frostbite 2 engine, ejects the <em>brotacular</em> humor in favor of a more serious narrative.<br /><br />"We're trying to add a more serious tone to the characters," Visceral Games producer Greg Rizzer told Joystiq at a preview event, explaining the new game is "trying to take some of the frat boy stuff out of there."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/army-of-two-the-devils-cartel-11-01-12/">Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel (11/01/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/army-of-two-the-devils-cartel-11-01-12/#5403715"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/armyof2001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/army-of-two-the-devils-cartel-11-01-12/#5403716"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/armyof2002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/army-of-two-the-devils-cartel-11-01-12/#5403717"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/armyof2003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/army-of-two-the-devils-cartel-11-01-12/#5403718"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/armyof2004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/army-of-two-the-devils-cartel-11-01-12/#5403719"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/armyof2005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/01/shredding-spanish-architecture-in-army-of-two-the-devils-cartel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shredding Spanish architecture in Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/01/shredding-spanish-architecture-in-army-of-two-the-devils-cartel/">Shredding Spanish architecture in Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2012 11:00:00 EST. Perhaps most telling is the listing for a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=31455&amp;accountno=178">Global Community Manager</a>, who will work in the Play4Free division (EA's team focused on free-to-play titles) and is expected to have "an unhealthy passion for MOBA games."<br /><br />The studio is also seeking a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=31525&amp;accountno=178">character designer</a> with experience in "MOBA, Action RTS, Action RPG, or Related Genres." Finally, Visceral is looking for a <a href="http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/viewjobrss.asp?cjid=31526&amp;accountno=178">character concept artist</a> for "an upcoming PC action title." Alongside the portfolio requirement, it's noted that "highly stylized pieces with exaggerated proportions" are considered a plus. Given the typically larger number of playable characters in a MOBA, and the need to identify them from a distance, such exaggerated proportions are common among MOBA character designs.<br /><br />Is Visceral developing a full-on MOBA? Given its recent history with Dead Space, it's possible the studio is working on a shooter with MOBA elements, perhaps something akin to <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/super-monday-night-combat"><em>Super Monday Night Combat</em></a> (though probably much darker in design).<br /><br />A third, much less likely but still tantalizing possibility: a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/24/all-clues-point-to-concept-art-for-viscerals-canned-jack-the-ri/">Jack the Ripper</a> MOBA.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/09/visceral-games-may-be-working-on-a-moba-game/">Visceral Games may be working on a MOBA game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Oct 2012 13:30:00 EST. As part of the contest, both Mendoza's creation - the HUN-E1 BADGER - and his likeness will be added to Visceral's upcoming game.<br /><br />The HUN-E1 BADGER fires flaming rivets - yes, spikes that are <em>also on fire</em>. We'd argue the weapon is overkill but then we've never had to fight a Necromorph. Luckily for you, we've already done the hard work - all you've got to do to watch the footage is sit back, relax and press play above. We do it because we like you so gosh-darned much.<br /><br />The gameplay above takes place on the Eudora, the latest in a long line of seemingly ill-fated ships Isaac finds himself on. As things start to go sour around him, Isaac makes a mad dash for escape but soon runs into his old pals, the Necromorphs. As you'd imagine, <em>hijinks ensue</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/26/dead-space-3-takes-off-for-orbit-with-17-minutes-of-gameplay-foo/">Dead Space 3 takes off for orbit with 17 minutes of gameplay footage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Sep 2012 23:00:00 EST.
