A recent patch for Battlefield 3 on the PS3 has corrected a known issue involving inexplicably mute teammates. In reality, teammates talk a bunch.

EA recently revealed sales of over 10 million for Battlefield 3, so this should come as good news to what we'd classify as "plenty" of PS3 players. And now that this adjustment is out of the way, DICE can get back to dealing with those pesky cheaters. If the developer could do something about those jerks who always steal the jet, only to crash it in ten seconds, we'd be all set.
Squad up: Battlefield 3 voice chat issues patched on PS3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 23:15:00 EST. Microsoft has said that it plans to improve the technical quality of voice communication across Xbox Live through a system update, set to arrive this fall. The update, which Eurogamer reports will coincide with the November launch of Kinect, will upgrade the audio codec that handles all of your online chatting, strategizing and your mothering. [Update: Major Nelson has also confirmed the change in codec with Joystiq.]

Speaking at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, Xbox Live Europe general manager Jerry Johnson explained that the basic codec had originally required just a 64k connection. "It's time for us to move on," he said. "Especially if we want to think about broadening - a crackly headset on the top of your head - not what people think of when they talk about popular entertainment."

Johnson's next statement, which suggested that general quality of Xbox Live communication would be improved by sending every subscriber a copy of "Dude, That's Rude! (Get Some Manners)," was inaudible.
Xbox Live audio quality boosted in fall update originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 26 Aug 2010 15:20:00 EST. We found out earlier this week that Skype is "technically possible" on the Nintendo DSi, but the question remained: Will Nintendo adopt the VoIP service for its fancy new handheld? CVG put that very question to Nintendo of Europe and, more or less, got a resounding, "No."

"We have no plans to release a Skype application for Nintendo DS or DSi," the company told them. Guess we're stuck only using the service on our PSP, iPhone, computer ... wait, do we really need this on the DS too?!
Nintendo Europe: 'No plans' for Skype on the DSi originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 22 Apr 2009 11:16:00 EST. While we'd love to tell you that the Skype rep responded with a concrete "yes," we can at least say that the representative didn't totally shut TechRadar down. In fact, the wording of the boilerplate response suggested that there's no reason the service wouldn't spread to the DS platform.

According to the representative, Skype's growth strategy "includes extending the Skype infrastructure and platform to bring Skype functionality wherever, whenever, and on whatever device or site people choose to use it." Currently, that includes computers, some smartphones, and, of course, the PSP. As for the DSi, "Whilst we can't comment on any future plans to bring Skype to Nintendo's DSi, it would technically be possible."

Of course, DS homebrew enthusiasts have known for a couple of years that it's possible. But the DSi Shop makes it seem more likely to happen in an official capacity.
Skype 'technically possible' on DSi originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 20 Apr 2009 09:35:00 EST. Goodbye Go!Messenger. Apparently no one is using you. Sony is pulling the plug on the free VoIP service for PSP after only one year of use. Edge Online confirms that Go!Messenger, which launched in Europe on February 29 of last year, will be shutting down next month on March 31.

The service utilized the Go!Cam peripheral for live videochat, and though Go!Messenger will be gone soon, Sony promises other services that use the add-on device are on the way. You hear that? Don't chuck that camera in the rubbish bin just yet.
PSP's Go!Messenger to Go! away next month originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 23 Feb 2009 15:30:00 EST. After being passed over due to failed certification tests, Skype on PSP will finally land in the hands of Japanese gamers on March 18, PSP Fanboy reports. The Japanese version of the Slim-PSP-only service launches a month later than the North American version, defying our normal expectations of how these things go.

The day after the firmware launch, a new Skype-optimized USB microphone atttachment for the PSP will be released for 2,500 yen (or two for 4,000). Expect a sudden surge in Japanese gamers yelling at their PSPs shortly thereafter.
Skype finally comes to Japanese PSPs this month originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 04 Mar 2008 18:55:00 EST. Following the news of impending Skype support on Slim PSPs, some were left wondering why the plumper PlayStation Portable failed to answer the voice over IP call. Speaking to SCEE's director of corporate communications Nick Sharples, Pocket Gamer has ascertained the simple answer. It has nothing to do with looks, and everything to do with the older PSP's waning memory and inability to remember long strings of numbers (just like grandpa).

"We had studied the possibility of supporting Skype with PSP-1000 but had to give it up because of the smaller size of main memory on PSP-1000 series," said Sharples. If you recall, the PSP-2000 benefits from 64MB of internal memory (as opposed to 32MB in the older model) which is used for UMD caching and the reduction of game loading times. The same enhancement also enables Skype to run and thus excludes the original PSP from online chatting. We certainly hope early adopters don't get too hung up on the disappointment [Goodbye! - Ed].

[Via PSP Fanboy]
Skype skipping original PSP due to memory limitations originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 20:00:00 EST. As reported earlier, Skype will be available exclusively on PSP-2000 systems only. The revised handheld features additional RAM, previously used for UMD caching. According to Nick Sharples from SCEE, the additional memory onboard the new PSP is crucial for running the VoIP application. He told Pocket Gamer: "We had studied the possibility of supporting Skype with PSP-1000 but had to give it up because of the smaller size of main memory on PSP-1000 series."

Skype is coming before month's end. For more images of the application, visit GPara. One of the more complex applications is SvSIP, which allows you to make and receive calls with your DS.

Fortunately, though, the folks over at Portable Video Gamer have made an easy-to-follow guide for installing and using SvSIP on your handheld. If you were too apprehensive to try it before, this guide will hold your hand through the process, so worry not.

While having phone capabilities on your DS is probably not a necessity (we're sure at least 95% of you have your own cell phones), it's still a fun prospect. Yet, ultimately, do you think it's worth the hassle?
How to turn your DS into a phone originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 03 Jan 2008 16:00:00 EST. Rumors, in the form of a decrypted firmware, cropped up last February regarding Skype on the PSP. In August, at the Leipzig Games Conference, Sony officially unveiled Go! Messenger - the newly branded suite of VoIP tools by British telecommunications giant, BT - which is due this month. On Sony's event page for CES 2008, the massive consumer electronics expo kicking off in Las Vegas this weekend, they list a curious feature for their handheld: "Call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers or catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP system." (Click on the controller and then on the PSP to bring up a list of the features, as seen above).

Could Sony finally show off the long-anticipated VoIP platform? And why isn't it using the Go! Messenger branding? And why are we asking so many questions? We can't be sure, but we've asked Sony to comment on their webpage.

[Thanks, Jorge]
Rumor: Sony talking Skype for PSP at CES next week originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 Jan 2008 10:26:00 EST. It's one thing for paid developers to make games, what with their fancy-schmancy development kits and other perks. Homebrewers, on the other hand, don't get as many helpful tools, or recognition, or rewards for their labor. That's why we're completely in awe of the homebrew community.

Because of that, we compiled a list of some of our favorite homebrew creations of this year, with our best guesses on how they were made.*

*Note: DS Fanboy strongly recommends that you don't try these recipes at home.
Continue reading The homebrew cookbook: Recipes and recommendations for 2007

The homebrew cookbook: Recipes and recommendations for 2007 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 31 Dec 2007 11:15:00 EST. Someone is attempting to create a fairly decent GPS program, VoIP is already possible and Nintendo already released their own mp3 player in Europe.

So, we figured it would be best if we asked some folks who knew best about the DS: you. What kind of applications or functionality would you like to see come from the DS? Sure, some more fleshed-out DS/Wii connectivity would be nice, but that's the obvious choice. No plans to expand the chat services beyond BT's jurisdiction have been announced.
LGC07: Go!Messenger PSP enables IMing, voice and video chat originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 22 Aug 2007 13:35:00 EST.
Sony has officially unveiled PSP's upcoming VOIP service, to be called Go! Messenger. The program will be downloadable and installed into the XMB in a future firmware upgrade. Through it, PSP owners will be able to instant message each other using a "new and intuitive on-screen keyboard." By using a headset, users will be able to voice chat; and by using Go!Cam, video chat will also be enabled.

"With Go!Messenger, PSP is pushing new boundaries, adding unique communication functionalities to all the existing multimedia experiences," said Stephane Hareau, PSP European Marketing Manager, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "Enabling more than 8.5 Million PSP users across the SCEE region to communicate with each other, through Video or Voice chat, truly confirms the always evolving nature and potential of PSP.''

The service has been developed in partnership with BT, one of the world's leading telecom providers. Sony plans on adding even more functionality to the PSP through Go!Explore and the Go! branded video download service. European PSP owners will have a lot to look forward to -- hopefully, SCEA will follow-up with its own American service.
Go!
BBC News has an exclusive video of PSP's upcoming VoIP functionality. In a deal made with BT, PSP users will be able to make free video calls to other PSP owners, and PC users equipped with the appropriate software. The service will initially only work at home and at BT hotspots, but can be expanded in the future.

In the video above, you can see BT's Steve Andrews speaking on the potential of the platform: "What we've done is allow users to talk, see each other, and send messages to each other on something they take for granted, which is a wonderful device that's called the PSP."
BT demonstrates its PSP VoIP technology originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 07 Jun 2007 15:50:00 EST. You're already two hundred minutes over your monthly limit and you just have to tell your friend the latest news? Well, practical solutions include borrowing another friend's cell phone and/or displaying a modicum of patience, but we never were much for practical around here.

For those with homebrew capabilities, a new VoIP app has been written by JSR. It's still in the testing phase, but since we're too stupid to actually code anything, this is how we get those "we're contributing!" fuzzy feelings. Do what you can, we say, and if you also want to shout at your buddy through a DS, all the better. Every Saturday, PSP Fanboy will answer your burning questions. If you have a question for the team, send an e-mail to andrew @ pspfanboy.com with the subject "Ask PSP Fanboy."

I'd like to apologize for not running this feature last week. I could not complete it due to an illness.

Q: Is Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis coming out to PSP?
A: No. We find it suspicious that of all the media organizations at the event, only Next-Gen would report on something so significant. While other PSP sites simply reported this as truth, we haven't seen any indication that the game is coming out on PSP. There's no mention of it on any of Square Enix's press materials, and Next-Gen refused to return our e-mails on the subject. While we'd love to see it ported, chances are slim.

For PSP? We wish ... but for now, it's not true.

Q: Are there any VOIP-type homebrew applications for the Sony PSP, like something along the lines of Skype?
A: You would think, considering PSP's ability to do VoIP easily in headset-enabled games. However, we can't seem to find any homebrew methods of VoIP. For those lucky enough to be in the UK, a new official service will be coming out soon. As reported earlier, hints of a Skype program were found deep in the official firmware. We're pretty sure SCEA is going to get their act together and offer a similar service in the future.
Continue reading Ask PSP Fanboy: Volume 20

Ask PSP Fanboy: Volume 20 originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 26 May 2007 17:30:00 EST. Using the Go!Cam peripheral (currently scheduled for a UK release on May 25), the service will utilize BT's 21 Century Network, which has been designed for IP technology -- supporting both voice and video calling. BT plans to reveal further details during the Leipzig Games Convention in August, but the service's initial launch will be limited to UK calls to and from home or BT-operated wireless hotspots (there are roughly 2,000 scattered in and around airports, train stations, hotels and fast food joints in the UK).

BBC recalls that Nintendo <strike>was the first to</strike> has also attempted to transform a portable gaming device into a clunky, crippled phone, revealing DSpeak in 2005, which enabled Mario-mimicking VoIP calls -- but the application was never released. Still, with a headset, DS users can make calls to friends while both are playing VoIP-compatible games like Metroid and Pokémon.

Update: PSP games like SOCOM Fireteam Bravo also support player-to-player VoIP communication via a headset.

[Via Engadget]
PSP getting VoIP'ed in UK originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 23 May 2007 13:57:00 EST. Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe has partnered up with BT to provide "high-quality video calls, voice calls and text messaging" for PSP users. The four-year deal will first provide Softphone, a service which will allow PSP owners to communicate with other internet-connected Softphone users (similar to other VoIP services). The program will eventually expand so that PSP owners can make calls to standard land and mobile phones.

David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said: "It is very exciting for us to be partnering with BT on such a unique project. The opportunity to combine our market leading expertise with BT's knowledge in communications opens up many possibilities and we look forward to bringing many exciting communication functions to PSP fans."

An American version has yet to be announced. However, a look into the PSP firmware reveals future plans for a Skype extension. We hope that VoIP will be made available soon for PSP users all over the world.

Voice communication is coming to the PS3 in a big way. A VOIP service provider by the name of Jajah, has tailored an interface with the PS3 in mind. Users can head to the Jajah website via the PS3 web browser to setup the number they wish to initiate a call with. Jajah already provides VOIP supports extensions for Firefox, Outlook and even PDAs. Gamers already have voice chat while in game over the PlayStation Network, if games decide to include and support it. However, Jajah's VOIP service could allow one solution for gamers, regardless of voice support, on all PS3 titles. While the process isn't quite as streamlined as another network we heard about, it's still a welcome step in the right direction. Solidifying the good news is word that Intel has invested $15 million in the company, via its Intel Capital arm. Perhaps this is the beginning of a more unified voice chat solution on the PlayStation Network?
Make VOIP calls with your PS3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 09 May 2007 20:30:00 EST. What will you be using to take advantage of the online voice chat feature? Nintendo's official headset, Turtle Beach's Earforce D2, or Datel's Communicator? Or will you be slumming it with the handheld's built-in microphone?

If you're still in the market for a headset solution, Nintendo Gal has posted a comparison chart and her analysis on the three products. Testing their comfort, durability, sound output, and recording quality, she was able to determine which one deserves our hard-earned allowance money. There are even recording samples available that you can listen to and weigh in on yourself.

We're surprised that the Earforce D2 was judged as the best of the lot, but seeing that it's also the most expensive at $19.99 (Nintendo's headset is on sale for $9.99 at Amazon), it's good to know that you're not paying that premium for nothing. Turtle Beach's headset outclassed the official one in every category except recording quality, while Datel's Communicator was laughed out of the competition.
DS headsets thrown into ring, forced to fight to the death originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 22 Apr 2007 15:30:00 EST. Zelda Universe's novice translation of the scanned pages indicates that the title might support online voice chat. Though this feature doesn't seem useful beyond setting up matches and trash-talking with your friends, it's a nice addition to the meager multiplayer mode.

With upcoming games like Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and Panel de Pon also planning to use the Nintendo DS' VoIP capabilities, purchasing the uncomfortable-looking, official headset is beginning to make a lot more sense to us. Of all the titles we expected to eventually include voice communication, Phantom Hourglass was definitely not one of them.

Update: Having a bit more experience with the Japanese language, The Hylia translated the Famitsu scans in an effort to confirm this news. It's been awhile since the DS came out -- nearly 2-1/2 years -- and we're finally using the handheld's headset jack to its full potential. Due to arrive at the end off April at an estimated retail price of $15, the Nintendo DS Headset is being sold on its functionality with one game in particular ... or make that two games. Well, sorta one and a half: Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl.

The headset works with any game that uses the microphone (including the huff-and-puff games), but is being sold on the ability to chat more conveniently with your friends over the internet. The headset works as a monaural earphone as well as a microphone, so all DS audio is routed to the earpiece, not just the voice audio. Considering the less than optimal sound quality of the unit, this is an unfortunate design shortcoming. The unit is lighweight, fits pretty comfortably over your ear, and feels durable enough to survive being stuffed into a backpack repeatedly.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are scheduled to be released on April 22nd (Sunday?) along with the headset.

Gallery: Nintendo DS headset

Hands-on pics of the Nintendo DS Headset originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 18:55:00 EST. What is JAJAH? It's a service that allows you to make phone calls for cheap (and sometimes, free). You input your phone number, then type in a friend's. Your phone will ring. When you pick up, it'll connect to the person you're trying to reach. Why bother with the roundabout way? Well, it's really cheap: only 2.8 cents within the US, and if you're talking to a fellow JAJAH member, the call will be free. (JAJAH also offers 21 minutes of free talk time for signing up.) It's not the elegant VoIP functionality we've been promised from Sony, but it's an interesting alternative.

While we wait for Skype to appear in a future firmware revision, we'll play around with JAJAH. All that's needed is the internet browser--no homebrew necessary. Point your browser to mobile.jajah.com, and log in with your free JAJAH account. Your contacts will appear as clickable links. When you dial in, your phone will ring, allowing you to talk to your friend. If you're talking to a fellow JAJAH member, it'll be free.

To make the most out of the service, you should probably upgrade to the latest firmware, and take advantage of T-Mobile's free Hotspot service. One point that Nintendo seems more than willing to drive home, however, is the fact that the pair of games will feature Wi-Fi voice-chat, as did Metroid Prime: Hunters in March 2006.

It's a nice feature, but the DS speakers and built-in microphone were hardly up to task of quality conversation; thus, Nintendo has decided to release its DS headset right along with it. Listed at a paltry $14.99 and shipping one day later than Pokemon D&P, it certainly looks like a decent pick-up for those interested in free hot-spot chatting. And can you imagine the trash-talking?

"Your Machop is more like your mom-chop, ohhhhh snap."

Umm ... in retrospect, we apologize for submitting you to that.
Pokephone Diamond and Pearl originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 16 Mar 2007 17:00:00 EST. Of course, this is simply the ability to chat with registered friends using DS's VoIP capabilities, enabled by the new Pokémon game. While it's a far cry from pending productions and possibilities proposed by the competition, VoIP on DS is a little used feature that has the potential to be a unique selling point.

Sure, it's tethered to Wi-Fi hotspots, but the technology offers the promise of safe communication -- in terms of both who your kid be talkin wit' and potential costs (or lack thereof) -- for concerned parents looking to serve their whiny offspring. Then again, DS VoIPin' lacks the much desired 'prank call' feature. With mischief muted, your preteens are gonna have to settle on playground gossip. That, or they could actually engage in some good ol' pocket monster melee. Imagine that.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are scheduled for release on April 22.
Pokemon transforms DS into 'cell phone' for kids originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Mar 2007 18:12:00 EST. While the functionality is clearly not present in the current revision of PSP's firmware, it appears that Sony's working on something for a future upgrade. Historically, it appears that hints to future functionality is hidden away in the code: references to the PSP camera and GPS were found in earlier decrypted firmware, long before they were officially released.

A similar Sony product, the Mylo, has implemented Skype functionality in the past. Certainly, being able to have some kind of VoIP service (free, or not) would increase the value of Sony's portable even more. Will you celebrate if Sony releases this in a future firmware revision?

[Via digg]
[Update 1: Updated image due to QJ's request.]

See also:
Sony spills it; PSP to get camera, GPS, VoIP
How the PSP can overcome the PSP-inspired Mylo

Is Skype coming to the PSP? Here's our favorite nugget-of-fun:

"Sony Ericsson's senior vice president of Product and Application Planning, Rikko Sakaguchi, said such a phone may actually be in the works. Sakaguchi cryptically revealed to CNET Asia that the company 'is working on something' related to a PlayStation phone, but that 'the surprise must be kept for the future.'"

Without doubt, that quote is cryptic, non-specific and bordering on hearsay. But that's the stuff that fanboys like us live for. Now, go and discuss.

[Via GameDaily]
Calling all PSPs originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 05 Sep 2006 19:40:00 EST. Sony's attempting to market the device at a whopping $350, which is ridiculous when many, if not all of its features can be implemented in the PSP, or a PSP redesign. With the right accessories and firmware upgrades, the PSP can do every thing the mylo can... plus it can play games. And at $199, it would be a bargain for the consumer. Here's a list of what Carony believes will make the PSP better:

Skype support to make Internet (VoIP) calls (using the SOCOM headset).

Support for Slingbox (a competitor of Location-Free TV). Sony could make some bling by not selling hardware, but selling a Slingbox application.

Built-in IM applications, similar to mylo's support for Yahoo! and Google.

Better e-mail integration.

Keyboard accessory.

Video output for TV.

Stop making Connect so crappy. Where's the revamp?

These are all great, plausible and reasonable upgrades that Sony can provide. If Sony actually took these suggestions to heart, I know a ton more college students and business people would pick up a PSP. Let's hope Sony has the brains to follow through on some of this.

[Via PSP World]
How the PSP can overcome the PSP-inspired mylo originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 18 Aug 2006 16:00:00 EST. One of the latest rumors suggests that one of these functions is built-in microphone support.

We know that the Wiimote houses a speaker, but what if the controller also contains a microphone? And if that should be the case, could the Wiimote also double as a VoIP-supported communication device? Sure. The product also seems to tie together various text-based chat methods, including regular messengers such asYahoo and AIM as well as in-game chat.

By supplying the (scalable) infrastructure for this service, Vivoxhope Immersion will take the burden of providing voice chat away from game manufacturers, while making communicationcentralised and seamless for players. However, there are already several products that already achieve this -- manyguilds have Ventrilo or TeamSpeak servers, while Xfire provides cross-game chatting. Vivox can go either way; it couldcorner another segment of this fragmented market, or -- if the company manage to deal directly with game developers --it could become the one-stop-shop communication solution for gamers regardless of their MMO of choice.

It'llbe interesting to see which way the company goes; voice chat is certainly billed as the next stage of interactivity withMMOs, with Xbox Live gamers testifying to the added dimensions voice can add to various game genres. A recent pressrelease on Vivox's website points to another direction in which the technology could become useful -- adding voice andcentralised communication to online dating and social sites -- but reaching saturation point is going to be a trickyride.

[Via Gamesblog;City of Heroes screenshot from GameAmp]
MMO VoIP: cross-reality calling originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 08 Apr 2006 21:00:00 EST. Not only was it announced-by SCE chief Ken Kutaragi, no less-that new PSP bundles and prices would hit the worldwide market soon, but a boatload of games and peripherals would also eventually make every PSP worth gushing praise for again.

The short but substantial list of add-ons for the PSP includes a camera and a GPS receiver. Along with a microphone, other notable points for the camera are that it will include a PSP version of EyeToy and will also feature video chat, which essentially turns the PSP into a mobile Voice over IP gadget. The GPS receiver will, well, turn the PSP into a GPS locator, but will also come in handy when playing their upcoming Hot Shots with GPS title, which will let gamers download course data as well as help simulate shots on the green.

Connectivity with the PS3 was also announced, as was a downloadable service that will allow users to play PSOne games (via an emulator) and save them on their memory cards. RSS support for video will also be implemented in a future update, as will the ability to save RSS audio feeds to your PSP and support for Flash.

Expect to see new stripped down bundles (PSP, A/C adapter, and battery pack only) priced at $199 to hit the shelves soon.

Now, let us pray to the PSP gods, for they have bestowed upon us much blessing.
Sony spills it; PSP to get camera, GPS, VoIP originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 15 Mar 2006 19:30:00 EST. Tom Keating of the VoIP and Gadgetsblog seems to think it will. In fact, he considers this more an inevitability than mere speculation. He alsosuggests that companies like Google are in line to come up with some sort of VoIP service for PSP considering thatintergration of IM applications like Google Talk are already headed for handheld devices. And since Google Talk, likethe even more widely used Yahoo! Instant Messenger, already has voice built in, it's only natural to expect that amicrophone peripheral (say the SOCOM headset) will take advantage of that avenue and allow for phone-like capabilitieson Sony's prized portable.

Having a phone attachment on the PSP, especially a free one, is such a neat ideait makes me feel like donating to charity. Of course, several issues need to be addressed. One, the phone attachmentneeds to be reasonably sized so as not to make the PSP unmanageable. Two, power usage needs to be improved since thePSP's WiFi feature is notorious for its energy suckage. Also, if this development gets pushed back a a year or two, there's always the chance that Sony will do a redesign and integrate these enhancements. Come what may, we're justoh-so-happy that even if Sony isn't maxing out the PSP's abilities, other people are at least trying to on theirown.

PSP VoIP on the horizon? originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 19 Jan 2006 08:00:00 EST.
