Free Wallace & Gromit episode and more for 20th anniversary of series

The company is also marking the auspicious occasion by discounting the full season of the PC version to $20 (from $35), releasing the whole set on Xbox Live Arcade, taking orders for a Collector's DVD, and participating in a charity drive with the Wallace & Gromit Children's Foundation and Penny Arcade (to which your full-season purchase will contribute). The discount and free game will only be available until November 8.
This Wednesday: Wallace & Gromit episodes 2, 3 and 4 on XBLA
Here's hoping you really like Wallace & Gromit and, more specifically, Telltale's episodic Wallace & Gromit games, because that's all you're getting on Xbox Live Arcade this week. As promised, the final three episodes, The Last Resort, Muzzled! and The Bogey Man will all be dropping on XBLA this Wednesday, each priced at 800
($10). That brings the total for all four games to $40, which isn't too bad, although PC owners should be aware that Telltale is offering the entire season -- which includes a collector's DVD -- for $34.95 as well.
Still, if you've got a yen for some couch-bound, Achievement-filled Wallace & Gromit, it's a pretty good deal.

Remaining Wallace & Gromit episodes hit XBLA all at once on Nov. 4

The remainder of Telltale's Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures episodes will make it onto Xbox Live Arcade all in one go on November 4 which, coincidentally, is the 20th anniversary of the dynamic duo's first animated short, A Grand Day Out. The already-released Fright of the Bumblebees, will now be joined by The Last Resort (which was a no-show in September), Muzzled! and The Bogey Man, each going for 800
($10). The mathletes out there have already figured this out, but that puts the entire season at $40 – a deal if it were a retail package. Also on November 4, Telltale Games' website will begin taking orders for the "full season DVD" on PC, which includes all four episodes, image galleries, a "making of" video and more. With three titles dropping on one day, I'm not sure we'd call this "episodic" in the traditional sense.

Telltale discusses XBLA wait times, possibility of XBLA Monkey Island
In an interview with Shacknews, Telltale Games CEO Dan Connors said long wait times between episodic content releases on XBLA are "over." When asked why the XBLA follow-up to the first Wallace & Gromit episode has taken over five months, Connors said Microsoft's second-annual Summer of Arcade promotion had kept the second episode off the virtual store shelves, allowing Telltale to develop new episodes of the series to keep release dates between episodes close. "I think our goal, going forward, is to launch on as many platforms as we can simultaneously," Connors said.
With two episodic franchises under its belt on Microsoft's downloadable service, Connors said he "would love" to see Tales of Monkey Island -- its best selling episodic franchise based on the classic adventure series -- on Microsoft's downloadable platform. "I know they had great success with Monkey Island: Special Edition. We think there's definitely an audience there and we definitely want to get the game to them." Thankfully we're able to hold our breath just as long as Guybrush Threepwood, so the wait for a possible release shouldn't be too painful.

Telltale hoping to push content to new consoles, handhelds & Macs

"I definitely think there's huge potential there, and right now we're working on getting our content over to some more channels, over to new consoles and the Mac," Connors said. With any luck, PlayStation 3 will be caught in Telltale's wider net -- it's the only current home console that has yet to be visited by a talking dog, a hyper-kinetic rabbity thing ... or even a dog that doesn't talk but is still weirdly expressive.
Telltale's ambitions go further still, added Connors. "And after that's done, we're going to be looking at handhelds. I think we have to consider the PSP Go for sure."
Wallace and Gromit no-show on XBLM

It appears that Wallace and Gromit Ep.2: The Last Resort will not make its appointed rounds on Xbox Live Arcade this week. The game has been pulled and "will release at a future TBD date," according to Major Nelson.
There's still Sonic and Knuckles on XBLA this week-- but their adventure isn't as grand.

($5). The good word comes from European Xbox community manager "AceyBongos," which just doesn't have the same ring as "Major Nelson." Could Microsoft at least make the guy a general or captain?Update: Joining the hedgehog and the echidna will be the inventor and his faithful companion. Major Nelson brings word that the mischief of Wallace and Gromit Episode 2: The Last Resort will also be available this Wednesday for 800
($10).Update 2: Last minute change: No Wallace and Gromit.
Telltale's final Wallace and Gromit episode arriving on PC Wednesday
You've likely got no shortage of clever adventure games to work your way through at the moment, so we almost feel bad throwing another one atop your to-play pile -- the fourth and final chapter of Telltale's Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures will arrive on PCs tomorrow. Titled The Bogey Man, the episode places the titular duo in the Prickly Thicket country club, where the pair encounter "an ancient dispute threatening to tear the town apart." Hey, that sounds less hazardous than having to deal with robot pants.
The episode will cost $8.99, or can be picked up in the Grand Adventures bundle for $34.99.

X3F TV -- XBLA in Brief: Yosumin Live, Wallace & Gromit episode 1
Oh, and Boggle was released this week for Hasbro Family Game Night as well. We didn't include it in the video, because we're guessing it's an awful lot like Boggle.

Next Wednesday: Wallace & Gromit, Yosumin Live and Boggle
Major Nelson was authorized to break with tradition (due to the Memorial Day weekend) and has revealed next week's XBLA titles early. The arcade will finally be graced by Telltale's adventure title Wallace & Gromit, along with Yosumin Live and Boggle for Hasbro Family Game Night. All the titles mentioned will be 800
($10) apiece.
If paying $10 for Boggle next week seems a bit high, you can always search flea markets over the holiday weekend and find it for a couple bucks. There always seems to be a copy of Boggle at those things.

Achievements spotted for Wallace & Gromit's first XBLA-bound episode
Xbox 360 Achievements for Wallace & Gromit's adventure (already ongoing on PC) have surfaced and X360A.org have scooped them up. Like any other XBLA title, Wallace & Gromit's Fright of the Bumblebees includes a possible 200 Gamerscore points to help players pad their personal Xbox profile "baseball card" statistics.
Fans of the famous British-born, stop-motion clay animation series will notice the careful attention Telltale Games put into the achievements -- primarily the the multiple achievements referencing Wallace's love for cheese. Here's hoping the XBLA translation for the adventure game turns out as Gouda as the PC version. Amirite?

Second Wallace and Gromit episode, 'The Last Resort,' available now
Telltale continues to nail episodic gaming where others fail, releasing the second episode of its third series, and on time no less. Wallace and Gromit in The Last Resort is available now for those of you who purchased the complete $34.99 series.
Because we reviewed the last one, we likely won't take up your time with a second critique. But honestly, if you weren't charmed out of your pants enough for a purchase by the first episode, then there's nothing we can do for that blackened lump of pumice you call a heart.

Joystiq Review: Wallace and Gromit's Fright of the Bumble Bees

If you're expecting something substantially different here, you're not going to find it. This is a game about exploring a charming world, about learning its internal logic and learning to use it. It may not be revolutionary, but it sure is delightful.
