Another title that snuck its way on the E3 page was the working title project <em>Game &amp; Wario</em>.<br /><br />"Wario and his Diamond City friends are back in action. <em>Game &amp; Wario</em> (working title) features a collection of games that use only the Wii U GamePad controller. The games retain the original flair and character of the micro-games from the <em>WarioWare</em> series," the site reads.<br /><br />Single-player games found in the collection include 'Arrow,' which transforms the WiiPad as a hi-tech bow used to defeat swarming enemies; 'Ski,' where players lead a skier to the finish line tilting the WiiPad; and 'Shutter,' which uses the WiiPad as a camera to take shots of hidden criminals.<br /><br /><div> A multiplayer game for up to two to five players dubbed 'Fruit' allows one WiiPad-wielding player to anonymously control one of the other players on screen to quietly steam scattered fruit.<br /> <br /> Sounds both wacky and strange, which is exactly what we'd expect from a <em>WarioWare</em>-style title.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-and-wario-e3-2012/">Game &amp; Wario (E3 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-and-wario-e3-2012/#5069924"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/game-and-wario0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-and-wario-e3-2012/#5069925"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/game-and-wario1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-and-wario-e3-2012/#5069926"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/game-and-wario2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-and-wario-e3-2012/#5069927"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/game-and-wario3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/game-and-wario-e3-2012/#5069928"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/game-and-wario4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/05/warioware-flair-is-reborn-for-the-wii-u-with-game-and-wario/">WarioWare 'flair' is reborn for the Wii U with Game &amp; Wario</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Jun 2012 15:15:00 EST. We imagine the interior of Nintendo's new headquarters in Redmond, Washington to embody the four quadrants it's divided into: Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Wario. Unfortunately, Nintendo wouldn't allow press to take interior photos of the company's recently opened US headquarters, citing "security concerns," so we <em>just don't know</em>. Nor do any images exist of the "gigantic top-floor conference room" that's appropriately named "The Master Sword;" though, according to <a href="http://www.techflash.com/seattle/2010/05/the_house_that_wii_built_nintendo_of_americas_new_redmond_hq.html">Techflash</a>, it's said to resemble a Wall Street-style conference room more than anything you'd find in a Hyrulian office -- the 75,000 square feet of greenery on the roof would likely make Link feel more at home. <br />
<br />
As you can see above, Nintendo of America head Reggie Fils-Aime and Nintendo worldwide head Satoru Iwata were <em>hilariously</em> joined by Washington Governor Christine Gregoire and her friends the Mario brothers for the building's opening ceremonies last week. "Hopefully this new building will help [employees] to be even more creative and productive, and continue to put smiles on the faces of our consumers," Iwata said of the new HQ. The beautiful facility -- detailed in <a href="http://www.techflash.com/seattle/2010/05/the_house_that_wii_built_nintendo_of_americas_new_redmond_hq.html">several photos here</a> -- is said to house 650 staff members. No official number of hidden Yoshis has been given.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/20/nintendo-of-america-opens-new-redmond-hq/">Nintendo of America opens new Redmond HQ</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 May 2010 12:45:00 EST. The classics like <em>Tetris</em> and <em>Puyo Pop</em> have populated virtually every platform under the sun in one form or <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyEMOD1kJMo">another</a>, and modern-day classics like <em>Hexic</em> and <em>Zuma</em> have undoubtedly caused more than one dreary office worker to find himself ejected from his cubicle. Sadly, just as many wonderful puzzle games have fallen by the wayside. One of those games is <em>Wario's Woods</em>.<br /><br /><em>Wario's Woods</em> has an odd history for a game: released on the NES and the Super NES only a few months apart in 1994, two similar, though notably different, versions of the game were on the market at the same time. Though the game only differs slightly from Puyo Pop and its various clones, the mechanics unique to <em>Wario's Woods</em> make it one of the most addictive puzzle games ever made. The NES version of <em>Wario's Woods</em> has been available on the Virtual Console for two years, but the superior Super Nintendo version is nowhere to be found. We've seen nothing new from the series for nearly 15 years -- it's well past time for a revival. And <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/rumor-screens-of-a-new-warios-woods/">for reals</a>, this time.<br />

According to a <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6200445.html">recent operational briefing</a>, delivered by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, DS owners can expect to see the mustache-twirling glutton in several upcoming titles -- and they'll even get to design some of them.<br /><br />"WarioWare Myself" continues the franchise's celebration of all games deemed mini, with the addition of some user-created content. Players will reportedly be able to create their own frantic minigames and <strike>inflict them upon</strike> share them with others. There's also talk of a WiiWare application that allows these creations to be played, though not designed, on the Wii. <br /><br />As for Nintendo's new DSi, Iwata revealed plans to release "WarioWare: Photograph," a camera-enabled, gesture-based affair, as well as several <em>WarioWare</em> minigames that will be available for download on the system's online store. For the sake of productivity, we sincerely hope Nintendo fails to include that infernal, paper airplane game. You know the one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/03/new-warioware-games-coming-to-ds-dsi/">New WarioWare games coming to DS, DSi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Nov 2008 17:00:00 EST. <br />Wario is <em>weird</em>. Anyone who has ever given Mario's portly nemesis a spin in his numerous games can easily agree with that, though it's a truth most evident in the Warioware series of titles. <em>Touched</em> is Wario's first appearance on the DS and something of a landmark for the handheld, utilizing the stylus for almost everything and showcasing the unique strength of the system. It's also pretty freaking strange. The admittedly odd design choices complement the gameplay pretty well, however, which involve a series of blindingly quick microgames designed to test both your reaction time and tolerance for utter silliness.<br /><br />The sheer speediness of it all makes <em>Warioware: Touched</em> an ideal candidate for this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/gaming-to-go/">Gaming to Go</a>. Unfortunately, for everything <em>Touched</em> does to streamline the gameplay down to a few exciting seconds, it isn't a perfect experience. Want to hear why? Click that big button down there and see what all of the fuss is about.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warioware-touched/">WarioWare: Touched</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warioware-touched/#1130834"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/wwt_g2g_mad_0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warioware-touched/#1130835"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/wwt_g2g_mad_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warioware-touched/#1130836"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/wwt_g2g_mad_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warioware-touched/#1130837"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/10/wwt_g2g_mad_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br /> <style type="text/css"> #ninbutton { border-style: solid; border-color: #000; border-width: 2px; background-color: #BBB; color: #000; text-decoration: none; width: 100px; text-align: center; padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px; margin: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .buttontext { color: #000; text-decoration: none; font: bold 14pt Helvetica; } #ninbutton:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #BBB; background-color: #000; } </style> <center>

For those of you with some extra money burning a hole in your pocket, know that Circuit City has a sale running from now until this upcoming Saturday. When you purchase any Wii game at full price, you can get a second game for 50% off. The sale also works with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/point-counterpoint-the-worth-of-wii-play/"><em>Wii Play</em></a>, if you're not among the folks who've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/npd-dishes-out-the-5-top-selling-wii-games-of-this-year/">already purchased</a> the bundle. <br /><br />Need some suggestions? <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Mario-Kart-with-Wii-Wheel-Wii-045496901004/sem/rpsm/oid/206531/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>Mario Kart Wii</em></a> is a good choice (and you can play with us at Game Night!), as well as <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Wario-Land-Shake-it-Wii-045496901172/sem/rpsm/oid/217641/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> (which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/wii-fanboy-review-wario-land-shake-it/">we're pretty fond of</a>). Wahey! Yeah, we know that Japan (<em>generally</em> speaking) gets the most excellent items when compared to elsewhere, but listen here, bub: it's <em>free stuff</em>. We're not about to complain, and nor should you (if you want to feel sorry for somebody, Australia's Club Nintendo scheme has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/australian-club-nintendo-still-not-functional/">gone AWOL</a>, and check out South Africa's piss-poor <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.za/NOE/en_ZA/club_nintendo/stars_catalogue_5823.html">Stars Catalogue</a>).<br /><br />Anyway, as these are happy times for North Americans, we thought we'd reflect on some of the <em>bestest</em> Club Nintendo gifts and trinkets from both Japan and Europe to date -- some of which <em>could </em>end up in the U.S.! Back during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/e308-wii-fanboys-e3-endgame-evaluation/">E3</a>, I talked about how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-wario-land-shake-it/">Nintendo had to actually kick me out</a> of their demo area, because I wouldn't stop playing <em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em> and, to be honest, that was true. The game was absolutely amazing when I got my hands on it. Would my favorable impressions be the same when I got my hands on the final product? Well, now that I've had a few days to plow through it, I'm ready to determine that.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/wii-fanboy-review-wario-land-shake-it/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Fanboy Review: Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/wii-fanboy-review-wario-land-shake-it/">Wii Fanboy Review: Wario Land: Shake It!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Oct 2008 15:50:00 EST. <div align="left">We couldn't help ourselves--Mario fashion is so <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/19/its-a-mario-world-final-bosses/">last Friday</a>. In case you didn't notice, maybe because you were too busy getting domineered by the formidable boss roster of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-9/">Mega Man 9</a>, a little game called <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wario-land-shake-it">Wario Land: Shake It!</a></em> landed at retailers on Tuesday. And you can bet we've been shaking it all week (besides listening to <a href="http://kids.aol.com/KOL/2/Games/article/wario-video-game-interview-on-kol">Charles Martinet ham it up</a>, of course). What better way to welcome this momentous release than to dedicate our humble gallery to the big scoundrel himself?<br /><br /></div>
<div align="left">It is appropriate that we have transformed this feature to accommodate Wario's oversized rear end. Transformations are Wario's speciality; whether he is provoked by status-changing characters or influenced by elements of his environment, Wario relies on his many forms to effectively navigate level design. Adopting forms that range from animal to mechanical, this rude evil genius is unquestionably a Master of Disguise. Let's take a look back at the numerous transformations Wario has undergone in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/its-a-wario-world-transformations/1058127/">our new gallery</a> chock full of yellow, purple and poor manners.</div>

As part of a promotion for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wario-land-shake-it"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wario Land: Shake It!</span></a> and just to be nice, the company footed the gasoline bill for several individuals at a downtown LA Mobile gas station. Nintendo has unleashed a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/experiencewii ">rather clever YouTube ad</a> for <em>Wario Land: Shake It</em>. It starts out simple enough, with mid-quality gameplay footage (first sign of trouble: the embed code is for Facebook only). And then ... well, we don't want to spoil it for you. Needless to say, it was a fun surprise. If the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/metareview-wario-land-shake-it-wii/">reviews</a> are any indication, it might end up being the best thing to come out of the tremor-phillic Wii game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/new-wario-land-ad-shakes-up-youtube/">New Wario Land ad shakes up YouTube</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 23:00:00 EST. <br />Talk about dividing opinion. As we type these words, Metacritic features just ten reviews of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/wario-shakes-up-youtube/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a>, yet already the top and bottom scores are separated by a yawning gulf of 30%. Two things most critics seem to agree on: <em>Shake It!</em> is beautiful, and <em>Shake It!</em> is short. The rest is clearly up for debate:
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/911/911870p1.html">IGN</a> (84%) published one of the warmest reviews to date: "It's got its share of modest shortcomings. It's not very innovative -- you've seen all this before in other platformers. The lack of a proper widescreen mode is downright annoying. And the core game is over a little too quickly for my liking. But, you know, it's still a really fun experience thanks to excellent control and fantastic level designs, not to mention a beautiful visual presentation."<br /></li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=230122">Eurogamer</a> (70%) noted that the title didn't measure up to Nintendo's rich tapestry of platform games: "A game which is good, but not great, and certainly not up to the standard of Nintendo's best 2D platformers."<br /></li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.gamepro.com/article/reviews/207181/wario-land-shake-it-wii/">GamePro</a> (80%) mentions the "c" word, as dreaded by most blog-reading types: "Despite its simplistic gameplay, the game is still worth playing, especially for the casual Wii gamer. It's fun, it's simple and it's charming, which pretty much describes most Wii games that hit big with that audience."<br /></li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li>Finally, Jeremy Parish of <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3170104&amp;p=44">1UP</a> (58%) heaped scorn on the mustache-twirler's return: "<em>Shake It!</em>'s failure to innovate is particularly infuriating, because it'll only serve to confirm in most people's minds the notion that 2D graphics are synonymous with dated, uninspired game design [...] the staleness of this game's action has nothing to do with the visuals and everything to do with the fact that the dizzyingly imaginative designers who helped make those earlier titles so memorable have moved along to the <em>WarioWare</em> and <em>Rhythm Heaven</em> series."</li>

<br />Well done, Nintendo. If you hoped this fourth wall-shattering commercial for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wario-land-shake-it"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> would make the blog rounds, then you succeeded. We don't usually post about media of games that are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/retail-and-download-releases-for-the-week-of-september-22nd/">already on store shelves</a>, but this was just too good to pass on. We can't really say much more for fear of spoiling the surprise involved, so click <a href="http://www.youtube.com/experiencewii">here</a> and get watching. But come back, please. Gets lonely here, y'know.<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2008/09/23/amazing-wario-land-shake-it-youtube-ad/">4cr</a>, thanks JR!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/wario-shakes-up-youtube/">Wario shakes up YouTube</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 12:40:00 EST. <div align="left">Mario's evil <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinner">Twinner</a>, Wario, would have been right at home in the "Me Generation" of the '80s, where, as Charlie Sheen's Gordon Gekko pronounces in <em>Wall Street</em>, "Greed is good!" <br /><br />The rotund, gassy, gold-obsessed anti-hero spends his latest adventure - and first platforming outing on Wii - seeking out riches with the aid of several Wiimote-centric play mechanics, including - you guessed it - shaking the controller. Here's how its mix of novel controls and 2D visuals (which you can see for yourself <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/wario-land-shake-it-video-blowout/">in these videos</a>) shook reviewers:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/911/911870p1.html">IGN</a> <strong>(84/100)</strong>: "A really fun experience thanks to excellent control and fantastic level designs, not to mention a beautiful visual presentation."</li>
    <li> Nintendo Power <strong>(80/100)</strong>: "There's some great puzzle solving and a lot of visual and gameplay variety among the levels, and it has the kind of fun controls that make you want to pick up the controller just to run around. In a gaming season that appears short on epic hardcore games, Wario's latest-and possibly best-treasure hunt is worth its weight in gold."</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=230122">Eurogamer</a> <strong>(70/100)</strong>: "A game which is good, but not great, and certainly not up to the standard of Nintendo's best 2D platformers."</li>
    <li>Edge <strong>(60/100)</strong>: "Nintendo is famed for sprinkling around mechanics other developers would build entire games on, but here the effect is quite irritating."</li>

<br />57 days divided the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/wario-land-shake-jiggling-its-way-to-japan/">announcement</a> and Japanese release of <em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em>. For <em>Captain Rainbow</em>, the gap between <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/captain-rainbow-questions-your-sexual-orientation/">unveiling</a> and launch was just <em>50 days</em>. <em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em> is a slightly different case. While it <em>was</em> <a href="http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/706/706685p1.html">originally revealed</a> at E3 in 2006, it was only late last month that Nintendo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/nintendo-says-disaster-day-of-crisis-is-still-in-development/">acknowledged</a> it still <em>existed</em>, before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/disaster-day-of-crisis-officially-dated-in-europe/">announcing</a> this week that <em>Disaster</em> would strike ... next month.<br /><br />We don't recall it always being like this. We still remember the agonizing wait for <em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em> (period from announcement to store shelf debut: 35 months), and the constant brooding over screenshots and tidbits. This still happens with some Nintendo releases, but increasingly the company is announcing titles close to release. It may sound bizarre to criticize this tactic (because hey, less waiting time is better, right?), but now we <em>barely have a chance</em> to get excited. In fact, we nostalgic old fools sort of miss the days when we'd get hyped up for a game <em>for</em> <em>years</em>. Are we weird?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/wii-warm-up-the-new-hype-machine/">Wii Warm Up: The (new) hype machine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 08:00:00 EST. During an interview with <a href="http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=1706">VGChartz</a>, Nintendo's resident wrist-hurting, Shaun White-introducing marketing lady, Cammie Dunaway, commented that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/e308-wii-fanboys-e3-endgame-evaluation/">Nintendo's E3 showing</a> was a bit of a disappointment. You don't say?<br /><br />"I would say the message is we were disappointed with our performance at E3," commented Dunaway. "There were titles like <em>Wario</em> which we think will be really fun titles that we should have show cased." Yes, we'd have to agree. It was certainly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-wario-land-shake-it/">the best game we played</a> at the show. But what about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-a-new-pikmin-sprouts/">this <em>Pikmin 3</em> business</a>? <br /><br />"We were excited that Mr. Miyamoto made the commitment that <em>Pikmin</em> is coming," she said. "It would have been nice if we could have said that on stage. But, we think it was a good recognition for us that we care for our core fans, and not just the new people who are now discovering Nintendo."<br /><br />

If you're the type of person who is big into the music in games, then we've got a post for you. Combine the visual excellence and tight controls (which don't overuse motion control, by the way) with this audio assault and we're sure <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/wario-gets-his-shake-on-in-these-latest-trailers/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> is going to be the Wii title to top this year. Well, actually, the bar <em>was </em>set way back in January, by a little-known game called <em>No More Heroes</em>. We're sure Wario<em> </em>will give Travis a run for his money, though.<br /><br />Head past the break for the video.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/jamming-to-wario-land-shake-it/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jamming to Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/jamming-to-wario-land-shake-it/">Jamming to Wario Land: Shake It!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 22:08:00 EST. When one of us got to check the game out back <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/e308-wii-fanboys-e3-endgame-evaluation/">at E3</a>, we found it to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-wario-land-shake-it/">the title of our dreams</a>. Seriously, there wasn't a single bad thing we could say about the game. A game starring the lumpy, flatulent Wario is an odd candidate for such an appellation (as is <em>any</em> Wii game, for that matter), but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-wario-land-shake-it/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> may be one of the best-looking games ever. It is an absolute <em>delight</em> to look at screens of the beautiful Production I.G.-animated platformer. <br /><br />GamePro has an expansive gallery of screens featuring <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curious_George#The_Man_with_the_Yellow_Hat">the man in the yellow hat</a> running, jumping, shoulder tackling, shaking birds, carrying robots, being on fire, and falling on his face -- all done <em>very smoothly</em> and gracefully. Sort of. We hope Wario manages to shake some treasure out of Wii owners soon, because we'd love to keep looking at this kind of thing.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.omgnintendo.com/article/99553/massive-screen-update-for-wario-land-shake-it/">OMGNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/wario-land-look-at-screens-of-it/">Wario Land: Look at screens of it!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jul 2008 12:00:00 EST. You know what the best thing about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e308">hanging out</a> with JC is? Hearing him <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-mega-man-9-feels-more-like-a-10/">gush about <em>Mega Man 9</em></a> and how he got a ton of time to play it. It's kind of the same thing with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-wario-land-shake-it/">me and <em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a>, I assume. But, what's important is the question we have to ask.<br /><br />So, in thinking about what other retro dream sequels we could see on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/wiiware">WiiWare</a> (<em>Earthworm Jim 3, </em>for example), we'd like to know what you all can come up with. So, let's hear it! What retro dream sequel would you like to see?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/wii-warm-up-dreaming-of-wiiware/">Wii Warm Up: Dreaming of WiiWare</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jul 2008 08:00:00 EST. And, thanks to my persistence and <em>rudeness</em>, I was able to enjoy the game a lot longer than most others who've been fortunate enough to play it, not only enjoying some of the game's normal levels, but also taking part in an underwater excursion in Wario's badass sub.<br /><br />So, I started out on the tutorial level, which shows you all of the in-game actions Wario can perform through some handy billboards sprinkled throughout the level. I was dashing through blocks, scurrying down pipes and doing butt stomps with ease, and once I got to the end of the level, I discovered its end creature, the Murpel (odds are, that isn't spelled right).<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-wario-land-shake-it/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>E308: Wii Fanboy hands-on with Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/e308-wii-fanboy-hands-on-with-wario-land-shake-it/">E308: Wii Fanboy hands-on with Wario Land: Shake It!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jul 2008 13:15:00 EST. <br />Following on from last night's assault of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-hey-disgruntled-nintendo-fans-remember-wario-land/">screens</a> is this U.S. trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/04/were-all-shook-up-from-wario-land-videos/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It</em></a>. The first half deals with the game's story of marauding pirate Shay King, his capture of the "Bottomless Coin Sack," and the imprisonment Queen Merelda. Wario comes to the rescue, but naturally shows no interest whatsoever until said coin sack is mentioned. 'Atta boy!<br /><br />The second part is the usual lifestyle shots of people enjoying the game from their fashionable sofa, interspersed with <em>actual gameplay footage</em>, which obviously looks fantastic. On a different note, anyone else surprised that this is going to be out in Japan <em>next week</em>? <br />Though it didn't get so much as a syllable in the Nintendo presser earlier today, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wario-land-shake-it/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It</em></a> remains very much in our thoughts. It's not slipped Nintendo's mind either, for the company belched out fresh screens and character art for its 2D platformer earlier today. In a nutshell, it's basically more of what we've already seen -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wario-land-shake-it/923242/full/">quite</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wario-land-shake-it/923239/full/">gorgeous</a> hand-drawn 2D art that continues to look like the <em>cat's galoshes</em>.<br /><br />Nintendo forgetting the hardcore? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wario-land-shake-it/">This gallery</a> says otherwise.<br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-hey-disgruntled-nintendo-fans-remember-wario-land/">E308: Hey, disgruntled Nintendo fans -- remember Wario Land?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Jul 2008 22:15:00 EST. <br />The importance of <em>shaking</em> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/new-screens-and-video-for-wario-land-shake-it/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> is apparent from the moment you read the title, but there are also moves available to Wario that involve <em>twisting</em>. Spencer of Siliconera spent some time studying videos from <em>Shake It!</em>'s <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/rwlj/action/index.html">official Japanese site</a>, and listed down the different types of shake and twist that feature in Wario's adventure.<br /><br />He quickly discovered that many moves in the game are context-sensitive. So, shaking the Remote up and down repeatedly allows our dungareed hero to swing from bars, as well as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wario-land-shake-it/886925/">shake the treasure</a> from bags or enemies. Twisting the Wiimote is also multi-functional, and will let players steer minecarts, fire themselves from a cannon at a certain angle, or aim at where they'd like to chuck enemies. A respectable range of moves, all performed with two simple motions -- neat!<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/twist-and-shake-with-wario-land-shake-it/">Twist and shake with Wario Land: Shake It!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 17:00:00 EST. If you've never laid eyes on ths coin before, then you probably never worked directly for Nintendo. It was given out as a thank you for the successful launch of the DS to Nintendo employees, as you can see the words surrounding the DS-side of the coin clearly state just that. And, with the bid at $31 at the time of this post, it's also a pretty neat collectible for the DS-obsessed that won't break the bank.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesniped.com/2008/07/05/nintendo-ds-commemorative-launch-coin/">Gamesniped</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/unique-nintendo-coin-celebrates-a-successful-ds-launch/">Unique Nintendo coin celebrates a successful DS launch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jul 2008 00:00:00 EST. We knew that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/wario-land-shake-it-says-the-box/">Wario Land: Shake It</a>!</em> looked really nice, but we simply were not prepared to see it in motion in the gameplay video available on the new Japanese site. The crisp backgrounds and fluid character animation make <em>Shake It</em> one of the best-looking games on Wii or any other console. It's surprisingly beautiful for something that is also so <em>Wario-</em>like -- the gameplay footage is all busting stuff and hoarding treasure.<br /><br />The site also features the <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/rwlj/prologue/index.html">animated intro</a> created by Production I.G., which we've embedded after the break. In addition, an animated controller diagram details the game's sideways-Wiimote-based control scheme: the 1 button tackles, the 2 button jumps, and shaking the Wiimote performs various context-sensitive actions, usually <em>shaking stuff</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/04/were-all-shook-up-from-wario-land-videos/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>We're all shook up from Wario Land videos</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/04/were-all-shook-up-from-wario-land-videos/">We're all shook up from Wario Land videos</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Jul 2008 13:30:00 EST. It's classic Wario stomping (well, shaking) his enemies all over the place and acting like a total badass. On the other hand, it seems a little ... brutal. Ostentatious even? This blogger loves any chance to use big words he doesn't even understand, so a debate over the quality of this box is more than welcome.<br /><br /><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em> has taken <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/wario-land-scan-it/">clearer form</a> just recently, as we all bask in its beautfulness. It might be the title to return the series to its original pedigree of excellence, and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/wario-land-shake-gets-dated-for-europe-among-others/">release date</a> isn't too far away. The no holds barred violence on the case shouldn't discourage parents from buying this one for their tots, because a nice little E for Everyone is sitting right there from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/esrb/">ESRB</a>. <div align="left"><br />Is it just us being overly hopeful, or is 2D gaming on home consoles beginning to experience a mini-renaissance? The Virtual Console is pumping old-school 2D goodness down our pipes on a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/vc-monday-madness/">weekly</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/friday">basis</a>, Capcom is making <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/rumor-wiiware-gets-equipped-with-mega-man-9/">a new 8-bit style <em>Mega Man</em></a> for WiiWare, and Nintendo is bringing back Mario's mustache-twirling alter-ego for a fully 2D platformer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/wario-land-mario-super-sluggers-dated-for-u-s/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It</em></a> (we'll quietly sweep the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/rumor-mankind-ill-needs-a-castlevania-wii-game-such-as-this/">latest <em>Castlevania</em> rumors</a> under the carpet if that's okay with you).<br /><br />Instead of using the NES-style graphics seen in <em>Mega Man 9</em>, <em>Wario Land: Shake It</em> will feature gorgeous, <em>hand-drawn</em> visuals. <br />Nintendo just sent news that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wario"><em>Wario Land: Shake It</em></a> would be hitting North America this September 29th, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/wario-land-shake-gets-dated-for-europe-among-others/">three days after</a> Europe (as this is <em>Nintendo's own game</em>, we trust that this information is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/manhunt-2-in-the-uk-rockstar-knows-nothing-about-it/">accurate</a>). Little new information about the gameplay was ensconced in the details we received -- we already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/first-wario-land-details-shake-things-up/">know</a> that we'll be using the Wii Remote side-on, and that shaking the controller helps Wario take out enemies, empty bags of treasure, or trigger earthquakes -- but we did get a new, much larger screenshot. We advise clicking the above image to take in all the detail.<br /><br />In less-important-but-still-great news, <em>Mario Super Sluggers</em> will be touching down in the States a month before <em>Wario Land</em> arrives, on August 25th. There's plenty of time to save for both, then!<br /><br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/wario-land-mario-super-sluggers-dated-for-u-s/">Wario Land, Mario Super Sluggers dated for U.S.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 10:05:00 EST. With E3 just around the corner, we've begun to brace ourselves for the deluge of new game announcements that always accompany the annual event, the latest of which has come from Nintendo. This morning the company announced a trio of new titles set to be shown during next month's conference, including <em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em> for the Wii, as well as <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra </em>and <em>Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir</em>, both for the company's touchable portable.<br /><br />As previously announced for both <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/05/28/wario-land-shake-jiggling-its-way-to-japan/">Japan</a> and <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/06/24/wario-land-shake-gets-dated-for-europe-among-others/">Europe</a>, Nintendo describes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wario-land-shake/"><em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em></a> as a "classic side-scroller," and notes that the game will have players controlling Mario's portly nemesis with the Wii remote turned sideways on September 25. <em>Kirby Super Star Ultra</em>, on the other hand, will re-imagine the SNES classic platformer starring everyone's favorite perpetually-hungry cream puff when it debuts four days later on September 29. Finally, <em>Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir</em> brings Big Fish Games' line of casual PC puzzlers to the DS earlier in the month on September 8. The games join the previously announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-super-sluggers/"><em>Mario Super Sluggers</em></a>, giving us an early look at what Nintendo will have on tap at the LA Convention Center in a few short weeks.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/25/nintendo-announces-new-wario-land-for-wii-kirby-for-ds/">Nintendo announces new Wario Land for Wii, Kirby for DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jun 2008 09:10:00 EST. After the numerous scans and screens, we're about ready to hear <em>something</em> on a release date for the game. Well, as ready as we are in North America, it looks like Europe is the only region with a cemented release for the game.<em> </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/wario-land-shakes-boxart-also-features-2d-action/"><em>Wario Land: The Shake Dimension</em></a> will release in Europe on September 26th. <br /><br />Aside from that game, Nintendo of Europe also dished out release dates for plenty of other Wii games, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/wii-fanboy-review-baroque/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Baroque</span></a> (July 18) and <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/more-manhunt-2-dramarama/">Manhunt 2</a> </span>(August). The same screens of <em>Wario Land Shake</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/12/wario-land-shake-sees-an-old-favorite-return/">keep on</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/some-slightly-less-tiny-wario-land-shake-screens/">popping up</a> in different places, but the latest scans from <em>Coro Coro Comics</em> reveal a bit more about the controls. As you probably deduced from the game's title, being the genius that you are, <em>Wario Land Shake</em> will involve quit a bit of <em>shaking</em>. We already went into a little detail on the controls <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/first-wario-land-details-shake-things-up/">a few weeks ago</a>, but these new scans show more pictured instances of the scheme in action.<br /><br />As you can see above, you hold the Wiimote horizontally and use it like an old-school controller. Attacking enemies will be one instance that you need to shake <strike>and bake</strike>, since you can turn your foes into treasure this way. Google translator also tells us that climbing ropes will involve "moving the Wiimote up and down," which is pretty much the definition of shaking. <br /><br />It looks like most actions in the game will force you to shake the Wiimote, but we think <em>Wario Land</em> sounds awesome enough to warrant the waggle and ensuing Carpal tunnel syndrome.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/wario-land-shake-scans-show-more-shaking/">Wario Land Shake scans show more shaking</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jun 2008 14:45:00 EST.
