Other retailers don't yet agree: <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita/games/silent-hill-book-of-memories/99306">GameStop</a> says May 22, and <a href="http://www.gamefly.com/Rent-Silent-Hill-Book-of-Memories/5001620/#.T7EzU59YvMA">GameFly</a> has a terrifying "TBD" date.<br /><br />At least Amazon's $5 credit offer is active, if you pre-order the game in advance of its eventual release. And in other sort of good news, the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hill-Memories-Daniel-Licht/dp/B007AU26DW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1337013096&amp;sr=8-2">soundtrack</a> was released last month, so you can listen to that while you wait. We're checking with Konami for an accurate release window.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-book-of-memories-vita/">Silent Hill: Book of Memories (Vita)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-book-of-memories-vita/#5022644"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/earthworldmultiplayer02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-book-of-memories-vita/#5022646"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/fireworldmultiplayer02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-book-of-memories-vita/#5022647"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/fireworldmultiplayer03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-book-of-memories-vita/#5022648"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/fireworldmultiplayer04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-book-of-memories-vita/#5022651"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/lightworldmultiplayer01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/14/amazon-shelves-silent-hill-book-of-memories-until-october/">Amazon shelves Silent Hill: Book of Memories until October</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 May 2012 15:15:00 EST. The answer, it seems, is to build a Garbage Princess, which Finn and Jake have to then rescue for some reason. Maybe they just want to beat up the Ice King again.<br /><br />D3Publisher officially announced the game today, announcing plans to release both DS and 3DS versions this fall. Players will get to control both Finn and Jake through "a unique action-adventure experience" designed in collaboration with Pendleton Ward, creator of the show. D3 has yet to release any screens, but we'll be sure to let you know when you can <em>see</em> the garbage for yourself.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/adventure-time-hey-ice-king-why-d-you-steal-our-garbage-concept-doodles/">Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! The bright '80s colors weren't doing it for me. The character models for protagonists Jimmy and Billy looked hunched and unnatural. Their attacks were stilted and limited. The enemy designs were silly and altogether over the top.<br /><br />The second time I played it, however, I slipped on a pair of headphones and something happened. The <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqRt_2JIGVE">classic <em>Double Dragon</em> music</a> washed over me, reworked with 80s synth and electric guitar, and I saw something I hadn't noticed before: potential.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/">Double Dragon: Neon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951891"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951892"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951894"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951895"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/double-dragon-neon-flickers-with-signs-of-life/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Double Dragon Neon flickers with signs of life</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/double-dragon-neon-flickers-with-signs-of-life/">Double Dragon Neon flickers with signs of life</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 08:00:00 EST. The result is <em>Double Dragon: Neon</em>, a side-scrolling brawler in a totally '80s setting.<br /><br />This time, twins Billy and Jimmy Lee are fighting to save Marian from "Skullmageddon," who, judging from concept art, has an army of <a href="http://www.ign.com/images/games/double-dragon-neon-xbox-360-131320/3621820">wizards</a>, <a href="http://www.ign.com/images/games/double-dragon-neon-xbox-360-131320/3621814">cyborg police</a>, and <a href="http://www.ign.com/images/games/double-dragon-neon-xbox-360-131320/3621812">Linda</a>. It's scheduled for release on PSN (for PS3) and XBLA this July. Is "downloadable, high-definition 2D franchise revival from WayForward and Majesco" going to become an annual summer tradition? We'd be okay with that.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/04/wayforward-adds-a-dose-of-neon-to-double-dragon-for-xbla-and-psn/">WayForward adds a dose of Neon to Double Dragon for XBLA and PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Apr 2012 13:30:00 EST. There's going to be a DS game based on Cartoon Network's surreal <a href="http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/adventuretime/index.html"><em>Adventure Time with Finn and Jake</em></a>. Details are few, but weird animated GIFs are numerous, thanks to <em>Adventure Time</em> creator Pendleton Ward, who tweeted the news with a <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/buenothebear/status/183071630782775297">series</a> of <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/buenothebear/status/183076308291555328">DS</a>-<a href="https://twitter.com/#!/buenothebear/status/183081473136533504">related</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/buenothebear/status/183087909539287040">drawings</a>. You should go look at all of those.<br /><br />While posting these great images, Ward also revealed that the "sweet sweet DS game, being made at WayForward Technologies, will come out later this year." <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/silent-hill-release-dates-march-2012/"><img alt="When it rains..." src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdprain.jpg" /></a></div>
You know what they say about March: In like a lion, out like a twitchy, messed up sex monster. That is to say that Konami has revealed that <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-hd-collection"><em>Silent Hill HD Collection</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-downpour"><em>Silent Hill: Downpour</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-book-of-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Book of Memories</em></a> will <em>all</em> be released this March. Breaking it all down, <em>HD Collection</em> will be released on March 6, <em>Downpour</em> on March 13 and the Vita exclusive <em>Book of Memories</em> on March 27.<br />

Then again, maybe a March release makes sense, what with the madness and all. Check out some new screens of the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 iteration, <em>Silent Hill: Downpour</em>, in the gallery below.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/">Silent Hill Downpour (1/12/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746239"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746240"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746241"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746242"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746243"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/silent-hill-release-dates-march-2012/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Silent Hill HD Collection, Downpour and Book of Memories all coming in March</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/silent-hill-release-dates-march-2012/">Silent Hill HD Collection, Downpour and Book of Memories all coming in March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jan 2012 14:00:00 EST. WayForward's <em>Mighty Switch Force</em> masquerades as a run-and-gun shooter, but the eShop game is basically a puzzle game, albeit one of the few puzzle games I can think of that's reflex-heavy enough to encourage speedrunning. That emphasis on speed allows a game with a relatively small set of levels to become a long-term pastime.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/">Mighty Switch Force (3DS eShop)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/#4696893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/i32221_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/#4696894"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/i32222_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/#4696895"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/i32223_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/#4696896"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/i32224_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/26/portabliss-mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Portabliss: Mighty Switch Force! Couldn't bother to shell out $14.99 for WayForward's delightful, 2D action-platformer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bloodrayne-betrayal"><em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal</em></a>? What if we knocked three bucks clean off that price? Well, not us, so much as Sony, who is doing just that for one week on the PlayStation Store.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/06/bloodrayne-betrayal-gets-a-temporary-price-cut-on-psn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal gets a temporary price cut on PSN</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/06/bloodrayne-betrayal-gets-a-temporary-price-cut-on-psn/">Bloodrayne: Betrayal gets a temporary price cut on PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Dec 2011 16:43:00 EST. For many reasons, some worthwhile and some not so much, people balk at the idea of playing a DSiWare game. And that means that most of them missed <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shantae-riskys-revenge">Shantae: Risky's Revenge</a></em>, which was not only the highest-rated DS game of last year, but happens to be a <em>damned lovable</em> game.<br />
<br />
It's a good thing, then, that it's come to a download store that people are willing to admit patronizing (the iOS App Store). And the virtual controls work well enough that you'll be able to enjoy the game, though you may find yourself occasionally pining for the luxury of a d-pad you can both see and feel.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/portabliss-shantae-riskys-revenge-ios-dsiware/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Portabliss: Shantae Risky's Revenge (iOS/DSiWare)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/portabliss-shantae-riskys-revenge-ios-dsiware/">Portabliss: Shantae Risky's Revenge (iOS/DSiWare)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Nov 2011 06:30:00 EST. Originally slated for Fall 2011, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-hd-collection"><em>Silent Hill HD Collection</em></a> is now heading to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on January 24, 2012. Konami is also putting Silent Hill's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-book-of-memories">first PlayStation Vita outing</a>, <em>Book of Memories</em>, in the handheld's launch window of February 2012 (Vita itself hits retailers <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/18/playstation-vita-to-launch-in-north-america-on-february-22/">on February 22</a>).<br />
<br />
Rounding out the survival-horror trio of launches, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-downpour"><em>Silent Hill Downpour</em></a> falls to retail sometime in March. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/10/silent-hill-downpour-officially-pushed-to-q1-2012/">pushed back</a> to the murky "Q1 2012" earlier this month, but it seems that Konami has cleared things up. Here's hoping you're ready for a surprisingly macabre beginning to 2012!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/2012-goes-silent-hill-crazy-with-book-of-memories-hd-collection/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2012 goes Silent Hill crazy with Book of Memories, HD Collection, and Downpour launching in Q1</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/2012-goes-silent-hill-crazy-with-book-of-memories-hd-collection/">2012 goes Silent Hill crazy with Book of Memories, HD Collection, and Downpour launching in Q1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 10:25:00 EST. Whether you're a fervent supporter of independent development studio WayFoward or you're a diehard fan of the illustrious Shantae franchise -- and, really, who isn't -- you'll have reason to celebrate tomorrow. <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/WayForwardTech/status/128985668755009537">WayForward</a> just announced on Twitter that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/shantae-riskys-revenge"><em>Shantae: Risky's Revenge</em></a> will arrive on the iOS App Store tomorrow.<br />
<br />
If you're familiar with the DSiWare original, you're in for a similar experience, though the game has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/shantae-riskys-revenge-coming-to-ios-soon/">optimized</a> to make it a bit more virtual-controller-friendly. Which is to say, it's a little bit easier this time around. Also, whenever you die because you jumped when you meant to attack, a soothing note pops up, reminding you not to hurl your phone into oncoming traffic.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/26/wayforwards-shantae-headed-to-ios-this-thursday/">WayForward's Shantae headed to iOS this Thursday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Oct 2011 13:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/aliens-infestation-review/"><img border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/aliens1010.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></center>
It's easy to see the seams in WayForward's <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/aliens-infestation"><em>Aliens: Infestation</em></a>. There's not all that much variety in the enemies or environments (mostly because it's an <em>Aliens</em> game). The "AI" is simple and pattern-based in the style of 16-bit games. The enemies even respawn in the same locations, dulling the element of surprise upon return trips.<br />
<br />
But even though I was fully aware of the shortcomings, I was completely drawn in. <em>Infestation</em> feels like what would have happened had someone made a <em>good</em> Aliens game in the mid-1990s. It's a cleverly structured take on the Metroidvania style of game that forces careful, methodical play. Despite those aforementioned issues, WayForward completely nailed the dread of <em>Aliens</em>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/aliens-infestation-7-20-11/">Aliens: Infestation (7/20/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/aliens-infestation-7-20-11/#4308899"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/23507chestburst_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/aliens-infestation-7-20-11/#4308900"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/23508grenade_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/aliens-infestation-7-20-11/#4308901"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/23509hive_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/aliens-infestation-7-20-11/#4308902"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/23510powerloader_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/aliens-infestation-7-20-11/#4308903"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/23511spacejockey_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/aliens-infestation-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Aliens Infestation review: Bursting with flavor</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/aliens-infestation-review/">Aliens Infestation review: Bursting with flavor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 12:00:00 EST. When it comes to 2D action titles, it seems there's nobody as capable as WayForward. Recent entries in the genre, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/ds-fanboy-review-contra-4/"><em>Contra 4</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/bloodrayne-betrayal-review/"><em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal</em></a>, speak volumes to the company's capabilities -- and, the developer's latest, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/aliens-infestation"><em>Aliens: Infestation</em></a>, seems destined for the same fame. Yet, as easy as WayForward makes it look, developing a stellar 2D action title is anything but.<br />
<br />
Director Adam Tierney offered insight via a diatribe on fan site <a href="http://www.avpgalaxy.net/games/aliens-infestation/developing-unique-marines/">AvPGalaxy</a>, discussing in great detail how he and company came up with these characters. For example, did you know that there are unique bios and art for each of the game's 20 different marines, which are then added to the Extras menu once the player comes into contact with any given marine for later perusing?Interesting stuff!<br />
<br />
Head on over to AvPGalaxy for the full developer diary.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/29/aliens-infestation-dev-diary-recounts-the-genesis-of-a-marine-a/">Aliens Infestation dev diary recounts the genesis of a marine (and more)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 08:00:00 EST. Wayforward's beloved half-genie is escaping the bounds of her DSi Shop-shaped bottle and exploring another platform: iOS. Touch Arcade reports that the team is porting its 2010 DSiWare game <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shantae-riskys-revenge"><em>Shantae: Risky's Revenge</em></a> to iPhone and iPad "in a couple of weeks." It'll feature Retina-display graphics, though you should expect a sharper version of the DS game rather than some kind of HD remake.<br />
<br />
The company is aware of the concerns forming in all of our minds <em>right now</em> about the controls. "Virtual D-Pads are my personal arch nemesis," a WF rep told <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2011/09/09/wayforward-bringing-shantae-to-ios-with-shantae-riskys-revenge/">TouchArcade</a>, "so I'm happy to report that ours does the job incredibly well." Additionally, the game is being tweaked to be a little friendlier to virtual controls: "Platforms are slightly wider, chains dangle a little bit closer to the player's grasp; enemy behaviors are just a bit different." Furthermore, it's "optimized" for those weird <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/04/stick-an-analog-stick-to-your-ipad/">Fling</a> and Fling Mini joystick attachments.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/shantae-riskys-revenge-coming-to-ios-soon/">Shantae: Risky's Revenge coming to iOS soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Sep 2011 19:55:00 EST. WayForward's <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bloodrayne-betrayal"><em>BloodRayne: Betrayal</em></a> doesn't just succeed as a game <em>despite</em> the baggage of the moribund <em>BloodRayne</em> license. WayForward took the franchise fully into "campy" mode, turning the characters and settings into something you're clearly not supposed to take seriously, presented in an incredibly sharp hand-drawn cartoon style. Rayne herself is even kind of uncharacteristically cute.<br />
<br />
That presentation is married to a combo-heavy brawler that you must take seriously at all times, at the risk of oft-repeated death. Just surviving the game requires near mastery of Rayne's repertoire; to actually earn a grade higher than "F" in the game's score-based rating system requires ... well, I still have to figure that out.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/bloodrayne-betrayal-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BloodRayne Betrayal review: Re-animated</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/bloodrayne-betrayal-review/">BloodRayne Betrayal review: Re-animated</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Sep 2011 12:30:00 EST. The gameplay footage in the first <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/aliens-infestation"><em>Aliens: Infestation</em></a> trailer does a pretty good job of setting a scary, isolated tone appropriate for the license. That tone is married with a sort of methodical exploration of an enclosed environtment in side view that brings to mind the <em>Metroid</em> games more than it does <em>Contra</em> (which was our initial assessment).<br />
<br />
And that makes sense, given that <em>Metroid</em> carried a lot of inspiration from the <em>Alien</em> series in the first place. We've gone full circle, chased by monsters the whole way. As the trailer notes, and as was announced at PAX, you'll get to play <em>Infestation</em> on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/28/aliens-infestation-infests-ds-on-october-11/">October 11</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/02/aliens-infestation-trailer-invades-your-screen/">Aliens: Infestation trailer invades your screen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Sep 2011 17:00:00 EST. A few weeks ago, Majesco told us that the XBLA release of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bloodrayne-betrayal"><em>BloodRayne: Betrayal</em></a> had been pushed back to October 6. However, we've heard a new date from someone who ought to know: Rayne herself. The heroic dhampir (or <em>perhaps</em> a PR person under her name) <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/BloodRayneGame/status/106500299518246912">tweeted</a> that the game will be out on XBLA September 7, just one day after the PSN release.<br />
<br />
That's great news for XBLA users looking to blow up some fancy vampires with poisonous bites. It's slightly less great news for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/05/playstation-network-play-is-a-lot-like-summer-of-arcade-start/">PSN Play</a> promotion, which loses the closest thing it had to a timed exclusive. You still get extra "gifts" with the PSN Play pre-order, though.<br />

<br />
In this video, Konami producer Tomm Hulett explains the premise of the PlayStation Vita's weird spin-off game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-book-of-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Book of Memories</em></a>. "You receive a strange book. When you open it, you see your entire life story written on those pages," he said. "All your memories." You can then rewrite your memories and alter reality.<br />
<br />
Apparently, judging by the gameplay, all the player-created characters then rewrite their lives as monster-filled nightmares -- with Hulett suggesting that even Pyramid Head shows up. In any other game, that would be weird, but it wouldn't be <em>Silent Hill</em> if the protagonist wasn't totally bonkers.<br />
<br />
Speaking of gameplay, the above video features the first (early) direct-feed gameplay footage.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/19/silent-hill-book-of-memories-is-really-about-a-book-of-memories/">Silent Hill: Book of Memories is really about a book of memories</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Aug 2011 10:30:00 EST. The WayForward-developed <em>Silent Hill</em> game for PlayStation Vita is weirder than you think. Konami showed off <em>Silent Hill: Book of Memories</em> during its Gamescom press conference this morning, revealing it to be a multiplayer action game (we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/09/silent-hill-book-of-memories-is-multiplayer-not-made-by-vatra/">expected</a> that part) with a top-down or isometric perspective.<br />
<br />
If you look closely, you'll notice that series stars Harry, Maria and James now exist in the same game! Of course, Konami is wisely opting to spin <em>Book of Memories</em> off into its own, completely unrelated story. You'll also be able to create your own protagonist, further distancing yourself from the sanctity of <em>Silent Hill</em> canon. <strong>Update:</strong> The Harry, Maria and James in the image above are just custom characters with cheeky names, Konami tells us.<br />
<br />
<em>Book of Memories</em> features melee combat, guns and what appears to be a smattering of RPG elements. We'll try to get you more specific information as Gamescom continues.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/17/silent-hill-book-of-memories-revealed-as-top-down-multiplayer-g/">Silent Hill: Book of Memories revealed as top-down multiplayer game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Aug 2011 06:16:00 EST. We've seen quite a few lovingly illustrated environments in screens and trailers for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bloodrayne-betrayal"><em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal</em></a>, which means we can assume the titular protagonist does a bit of traveling. Tell us, how does she get around while toting a laser cannon that is bigger than she is? Answer that, <em>science</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/03/new-bloodrayne-betrayal-screens-feature-improbable-weapons/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Bloodrayne: Betrayal screens feature improbable weapons</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/03/new-bloodrayne-betrayal-screens-feature-improbable-weapons/">New Bloodrayne: Betrayal screens feature improbable weapons</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Aug 2011 16:30:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bloodrayne-betrayal"><em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal</em></a> really surprised us at E3 this year. After being outed in classifications from both the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/aliens-infestation-rated-down-under/">Australian Classification Board</a> and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/15/aliens-infestation-is-a-side-scrolling-action-game/">ESRB</a>, <em>Aliens: Infestation </em>has finally been announced by Sega. The game is slated to hit the DS this September.<br />
<br />
Sega has confirmed that Wayforward (which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/19/ds-fanboy-review-contra-4/">knows a <em>little</em></a> about blasting aliens) is indeed developing the game. It will be a side-scroller in which players "will be able to recruit and play as 19 different marines, each with their own unique dialogue, and explore iconic environments including the Sulaco, the Derelict ship, and LV-426." Furthermore, the game features "an upgrade and collectibles system" and character designs by comic artist Chris Bachalo.<br />

We didn't have a periodic column about portable downloadable games when WayForward unleashed the bookish puzzle game Mighty Flip Champs upon DSiWare. WayForward graciously ported the game to PSP and released it as a Mini last week, affording us the opportunity to treat it as a new release once again and write about it here. <em>Aliens: Infestation</em>, the long-gestating xenomorph game for the Nintendo DS, has been rated by the ESRB. The classification board describes the teen-rated title as an action game, in which "players run and jump through side-scrolling levels, they use rifles, pistols, flamethrowers, and explosives to kill enemy soldiers and aliens (i.e., 'xenomorphs')." There are also the obligatory scenes of chest bursting and some "briefly exposed" male buttocks in a locker room. That one's less obligatory, but still <em>edgy</em>.<br />
<br />
<em>Infestation</em>, which has still not been officially announced by Sega, must be close to exploding out of the company's marketing abdomen by now. After a long period of silence, the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/aliens-infestation-rated-down-under/">classified by the Australians in May</a>, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wayforward-technologies/">WayForward Technologies</a> (<em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal, A Boy and His Blob</em>) indicated as developer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/15/aliens-infestation-is-a-side-scrolling-action-game/">Aliens: Infestation is a side-scrolling action game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 09:37:00 EST. Time is fluid, as we're reminded again by the announcement of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bloodrayne-betrayal">Bloodrayne: Betrayal</a></em>'s <em>late</em> August launch. Originally expected for "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/bloodrayne-betrayal-cuts-up-psn-xbla-in-early-august/">early August</a>," the game now has August 30 and 31 launch dates for PSN and XBLA, respectively.<br />
<br />
Developer WayForward has reimagined <em>BloodRayne</em> for the better, as we and the company recently detailed on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/the-joystiq-show-002-unsung-games-of-e3-2011/">The Joystiq Show</a>. From what we've seen so far, this is a <em>BloodRayne</em> that doesn't suck.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodrayne-betrayal-e3-2011/">BloodRayne: Betrayal (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodrayne-betrayal-e3-2011/#4207413"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/bloodraynee3psn-screen-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodrayne-betrayal-e3-2011/#4207414"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/bloodraynee3psn-screen-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodrayne-betrayal-e3-2011/#4207415"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/bloodraynee3psn-screen-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodrayne-betrayal-e3-2011/#4207416"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/bloodraynee3psn-screen-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bloodrayne-betrayal-e3-2011/#4207417"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/bloodraynee3psn-screen-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/bloodrayne-betrayal-launching-in-the-last-week-of-august/">BloodRayne: Betrayal launching in the last week of August</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 20:00:00 EST. We heard the first inklings of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/esrb-mighty-flip-champs-coming-to-psp-in-dx-form/">PSP version</a> of WayForward's DSiWare game <em>Mighty Flip Champs </em>earlier this year. Now, WayForward has officially announced <em>Mighty Flip Champs DX</em> as a PlayStation Mini, and released the first screen demonstrating just how such a dual-screen-dependent game will transition to the PSP and PS3.<br />
<br />
In short, the two "screens" are now side-by-side on the single screen. The room you're currently in displays on the left, with the next room on the right; at any time protagonist Alta can "flip" to the next room, trying not to be crushed by the new surroundings.<br />
<br />
<em>Mighty Flip Champs DX</em> will be released on the PlayStation Store July 12. In the announcement after the break, designer Matt Bozon encourages new players not to "miss out on this top shelf experience. Even if it sounds weird."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/01/mighty-flip-champs-dx-rotates-to-playstation-minis-july-12/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mighty Flip Champs DX rotates to PlayStation Minis July 12</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/01/mighty-flip-champs-dx-rotates-to-playstation-minis-july-12/">Mighty Flip Champs DX rotates to PlayStation Minis July 12</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jul 2011 20:00:00 EST. We've got another marginal detail about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-book-of-memories">Silent Hill: Book of Memories</a></em> for you. During an E3 showing of downloadable splatterfest <em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal</em>, WayForward designer and director Sean Velasco briefly discussed the company's expanding slate of games -- which now includes a new <em>Silent Hill</em> game for PlayStation Vita.<br />
<br />
Velasco didn't divulge much, only describing <em>Book of Memories</em> as a "left-field" part of the prolific developer's upcoming lineup. A "left-field" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/09/silent-hill-book-of-memories-is-multiplayer-not-made-by-vatra/"><em>multiplayer</em></a> Silent Hill game? <em>BloodRayne: Betrayal</em> will eviscerate PSN and XBLA during the first weeks of August, representatives for Majesco told us at E3. We had <em>specific</em> dates for both consoles, but neither fit the standard release day schedule for a digitally distributed title and reps changed the date to "early August." It will cost $15 (1200 MSP).<br />
<br />
Developer WayForward has completely reinvented the concept of <em>BloodRayne</em> for the better, saying that Majesco pretty much gave them carte blanche to make the license their own. If you've never heard of <em>BloodRayne</em>, this is a great arcade slasher introduction. If you've heard of <em>BloodRayne</em>, forget what you know. If you enjoyed <em>BloodRayne</em> before, sorry.<br />

<em>Aliens Infestation</em> has been classified by the Australians for publisher Sega and developer WayForward Technologies. The rating makes no mention of platform. Previously, we were aware of WayForward working on a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/26/is-this-a-video-of-aliens-colonial-marines-for-the-ds/">DS companion</a> game to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/aliens-colonial-marines/">Aliens: Colonial Marines</a></em>, but there's no clear indication from the classification that <em>Infestation</em> is that game.<br />
<br />
Sega's experimentation with the xenomorphs has gotten messier than a chest-bursting at dinner, so here's where things currently stand from what we can gather: Gearbox is working on <em>Aliens: Colonial Marines</em>, The Creative Assembly (<em>Total War</em>) is working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/12/another-alien-title-in-the-works-this-time-at-the-creative-asse/">some <em>Alien</em> IP</a>, and WayForward is working on <em>Aliens Infestation</em>. An <em>Aliens</em> RPG was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/27/obsidian-confirms-the-cancellation-of-aliens-rpg/">canceled back in 2009</a>, even though developer Obsidian felt it had made <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/28/obsidian-ceo-aliens-rpg-felt-like-a-finished-game/">worthwhile progress</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/26/aliens-infestation-rated-down-under/">'Aliens Infestation' rated down under</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 May 2011 11:00:00 EST. Having found major critical success last year with the DSiWare release <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shantae-riskys-revenge"><em>Shantae: Risky's Revenge</em></a>, developer WayForward is returning to the download service tomorrow with <em>Mighty Milky Way</em>.<br />
<br />
As "Luna," you have a magical power to create and destroy planets, and then hop between them, making a celestial path for yourself as you escape from ... a "laser-eyed T-Rex." In 40 stages, you'll use the gravitational fields of the planets to carry yourself around, collect "planet candy" and avoid obstacles and space dinosaurs.<br />
<br />
<em>Mighty Milky Way</em> will cost 800 DSi Points.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-milky-way-dsiware/">Mighty Milky Way (DSiWare)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-milky-way-dsiware/#4116838"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/releasegreens02_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-milky-way-dsiware/#4116839"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/releaselunawithstaff_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-milky-way-dsiware/#4116841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/releaset-rex_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-milky-way-dsiware/#4116862"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/mmw5801_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-milky-way-dsiware/#4116863"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/05/mmw5802_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/08/wayforwards-mighty-milky-way-orbits-dsiware-tomorrow/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>WayForward's Mighty Milky Way orbits DSiWare tomorrow</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/08/wayforwards-mighty-milky-way-orbits-dsiware-tomorrow/">WayForward's Mighty Milky Way orbits DSiWare tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 May 2011 13:30:00 EST. The first screenshot of WayForward's XBLA/PSN action game, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bloodrayne-betrayal">Bloodrayne: Betrayal</a>, </em>is pretty confusing. Based only on the screenshot, it would appear that an explosion of human blood is okay to show, but Bloodrayne herself has been censored, suggesting that her appearance is even more offensive than that of a guy who has been cut in half.<br />
<br />
However, the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=220987551249929&amp;set=a.220987547916596.74369.193981067283911&amp;type=1&amp;theater">Facebook page</a> at which this screen was posted offers much-needed context -- Rayne's character design is planned as a separate reveal. We'd keep an air sickness bag next to our computers anyway, just in case it turns out to be worse than a bloodsplosion.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/28/bloodrayne-betrayal-screen-shows-blood-rain-but-not-bloodrayne/">Bloodrayne: Betrayal screen shows blood rain, but not Bloodrayne</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Apr 2011 15:20:00 EST. This is one of those times when we'd normally bemoan the "re-imagining" of classic games, but Atari's freshly announced rebirth of legendary trackball-based shooter <em>Centipede, </em>for 3DS and Wii, has us holding onto hope because of its developer. Due this fall, the title has been placed into the (capable) hands of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wayforward">WayForward Technologies</a>, which has brought us the likes of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/contra-4"><em>Contra 4</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-boy-and-his-blob"><em>A Boy and His Blob</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Granted, <em>Centipede: Infestation</em> is definitely more of a reinterpretation of the original than either of those titles. It's evolved into a story-driven action game with dual-stick shooter mechanics, casting players as a orphaned boy in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. He's joined by a female partner character who possesses the ability to make plants grow -- exactly how that ability will translate into gameplay hasn't been fully revealed. Two-player co-op is planned on console and handheld, with the latter supporting local wireless play and StreetPass functionality.<br />
<br />
Based on the first gameplay footage released by Atari and WayForward's track record, we're unusually optimistic about this one. Check it out for yourself after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/19/centipede-infestation-invades-3ds-and-wii-this-fall/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Centipede: Infestation invades 3DS and Wii this fall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/19/centipede-infestation-invades-3ds-and-wii-this-fall/">Centipede: Infestation invades 3DS and Wii this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Apr 2011 18:30:00 EST. One of DSiWare's better-received games is moving to a new home. WayForward's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mighty-flip-champs"><em>Mighty Flip Champs</em></a>, which is about navigating maze-like rooms by flipping between two of them at a time, is heading to PSP in a version called <em>Mighty Flip Champs DX</em>, according to a rating found on the ESRB.<br />
<br />
Without an official announcement, there are still a lot of questions to answer about this version of the puzzle platformer -- like when it's coming out, and, um, how a game about flipping between two screens is going to work on a system <em>known</em> for its singular screen. We'll ask the mighty WayForward.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/esrb-mighty-flip-champs-coming-to-psp-in-dx-form/">ESRB: Mighty Flip Champs coming to PSP in 'DX' form</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Mar 2011 09:40:00 EST. We suggest going back in time to June and telling yourself to chill out, because it's not happening. <br />
<br />
A rep for WayForward, developer of the Wii version of <em>A Boy and His Blob</em>, told <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-30-a-boy-and-his-blob-3ds-canned">Eurogamer</a> that the original listing was in error. "The Blob announcement at E3 was incorrect... we're not developing Blob for any systems currently." That's a bit of a bitter jellybean to swallow, but at least it means WayForward isn't squandering its resources on porting something that's already out. We're contacting the studio to try to get more information.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/30/a-boy-and-his-blob-3ds/">No Boy and no Blob for 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Sep 2010 21:45:00 EST. If you have <em>Mighty Flip Champs</em> installed on your DSi, you'll find something special in the "import room" in <em>Shantae</em>'s Scuttle Town.<br />
<br />
The exact identity of the bonus will depend on your progress in <em>Flip Champs</em>, but, as WayForward's email announcement notes, "Whether you bought it, beat it, or rank among the best, a bonus awaits every <em>MFC</em> player." If you don't want to feel left out, you can still buy <em>Mighty Flip Champs</em> now and work on it until Shantae's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/23/shantae-riskys-revenge-unbottled-october-4/">October 4 release</a>. For that matter, there's nothing stopping you from working on <em>Mighty Flip Champs</em> after <em>Shantae's</em> release.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/shantae-riskys-revenge-has-bonuses-for-mighty-flip-champs-play/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Shantae: Risky's Revenge has bonuses for Mighty Flip Champs players</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/shantae-riskys-revenge-has-bonuses-for-mighty-flip-champs-play/">Shantae: Risky's Revenge has bonuses for Mighty Flip Champs players</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Sep 2010 23:30:00 EST. According to an email sent out to Shantae Fan Club subscribers, the wait will end in less than two weeks. The note announces the October 4 release date for the DSiWare sequel, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shantae-riskys-revenge">Shantae: Risky's Revenge</a></em>.<br />
<br />
The original could be considered an early experiment in Capcom publishing Western-developed games -- sort of a proto-<em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dark-void">Dark Void</a></em>. Except <em>Shantae</em> is remembered fondly.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/23/shantae-riskys-revenge-unbottled-october-4/">Shantae: Risky's Revenge unbottled Oct. 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Sep 2010 13:00:00 EST. From the moment the campaign kicks off, it's patently obvious that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/batman-the-brave-and-the-bold"><em>Batman: The Brave and the Bold: The Videogame</em></a> hails from an entirely different lineage than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/batman-arkham-asylum"><em>Arkham Asylum</em></a>. That's not a knock on the game, nor even a reference to the cartoon-stylized visuals; rather, the game's tone is much sillier than the dark and serious approach of last year's smash. By the end of the first chapter, both Batman and Robin have been transformed into housecats, and before the game concludes, Batman's floating in space, blasting a giant starfish with an endless supply of batarangs in a simple shoot-em-up ('rang-em-up?) sequence.<br />
<br />
It's weird, no doubt, and though <em>The Brave and the Bold</em> suffers due to kid-friendly gameplay mechanics and a total lack of challenge, it maintains a slight winning edge with its total adherence to this playful demeanor.<br />

WayForward's upcoming beat-em-up adaptation of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/batman-the-brave-and-the-bold"><em>Batman: The Brave and the Bold</em></a> series will apparently take advantage of a rarely-taken-advantage-of feature of the Wii: It's ability to connect with the DS. <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/111/1112434p1.html">According to IGN</a>, a player using Nintendo's dual-screened handheld (equipped with the DS version of <em>Brave and the Bold</em>, natch) can assist players of the Wii version. This assistance comes in the form of Bat-Mite, an impish version of Bruce Wayne's alter ego, pictured above.<br />
<br />
Bat-Mite's capacity for helpfulness still isn't clear, though if the screenshot above is any indication, he appears to be capable of dropping heavy things on the heads of unaware enemies. That sounds reminiscent of Tingle's remote support in <em>The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker</em>. In fact, now that we think about it, Bat-Mite and Tingle look startlingly similar. Is it possible that the Fifth Dimension from which Bat-Mite hails is actually ... Hyrule? Whoa. We need to go sit down for a while.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/14/batman-brave-and-the-bold-features-wii-ds-connectivity/">Batman: Brave and the Bold features Wii/DS connectivity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 14 Aug 2010 15:30:00 EST.
