What <em>time</em> is it?! Well, <em>Adventure Time</em> obviously, but it's also <em>Regular Show </em>time and, most specifically, new games from WayForward time. The house responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/adventure-time-hey-ice-king"><em>Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!!</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ducktales-remastered"><em>Ducktales: Remastered</em></a> has announced that it will be putting out two new games this fall based on what we believe to be Cartoon Network's most hilarious/magical franchises.<br />
<br />
<em>Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I don't know!</em> tasks players with exploring the Secret Royal Dungeon underneath the Candy Kingdom. The game features multiple selectable characters, including Finn, Jake, Marceline "and more," has co-op for up to four players <em>and</em> includes the voices from the show. <em>Adventure Time</em> creator <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pendleton_Ward">Pendleton Ward</a> is once again involved in production, though his specific role is unknown. The game will be available on Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and 3DS.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Mordecai and Rigby make their non-iOS gaming debut in <em>Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby In 8-Bit Land</em> for the 3DS. As the name suggests, our heroes must survive being transported inside of their favorite games, which sounds about right for an episode of <em>Regular Show</em>. The game is being developed "in close collaboration with show creator <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JG_Quintel">JG Quintel</a>," according to the <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20130514005667/en/D3Publisher-Cartoon-Network-Announce-Video-Games-Adventure">press release</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/new-adventure-time-regular-show-games-from-wayforward-this-fall/">New Adventure Time, Regular Show games from WayForward this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 19:45:00 EST. This is the Game Boy Color version of <em>Shantae</em> first launched in 2002 and published by Capcom. <em>Shantae</em> will be available on 3DS eShops in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.<br /><br />A sequel to <em>Shantae</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/shantae-riskys-revenge"><em>Risky's Revenge</em></a>, hit DSiWare in 2010 and iOS in 2011, and Wayforward is currently working on a third installment for the 3DS eShop, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/06/shantae-and-the-pirates-curse-coming-to-3ds-eshop/"><em>Shantae and the Pirate's Curse</em></a>. And while I can't comment on the final product - or even a portion of it - there's no denying that the devs at WayForward know how to put together a solid platformer, with the same expressive, 2D graphics that drew so many of us to the medium back in the 8-bit days.<br /><br />Barring the impossible scenario of reuniting the original game's tiny team (none of whom still work at Capcom some 24 years later), it's hard to think of a more appropriate match than WayForward meets <em>DuckTales</em>.<br /><br />Still, when dealing with such a compact and complete package like Capcom's unassuming 1989 classic, the smallest tweak or change could result in a total upheaval of the experience that renewed hurtful Scottish stereotypes for a generation of Nintendo-addicted children. To assuage my fears, I recently spoke with three key members of the <em>DuckTales Remastered</em> team about reviving that special brand of Capcom/Disney magic for our modern world.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/ducktales-remastered-wayforward-interview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rebuilding Scrooge's money bin: WayForward dives into DuckTales Remastered</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/ducktales-remastered-wayforward-interview/">Rebuilding Scrooge's money bin: WayForward dives into DuckTales Remastered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Apr 2013 16:45:00 EST. This week Mackey discusses the recently revealed DuckTales revival.</p><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/11/ducktales-remastered-runs-on-more-than-nostalgia/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/duck.jpg" /></a></div>Game designer Warren Spector's preoccupation with Mickey Mouse ranks up there with some of the more notable wastes of time in recent memory. You can't say Spector didn't have his heart in the right place, though; while much of his love for Disney's mascot seems to be informed largely by his generation's exposure to the character as more than just a soulless corporate brand, both of Junction Point's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Epic-Mickey/">Epic Mickey</a> games carried forth the noble mission of teaching a new generation about Disney's often-overlooked catalog of animated shorts.<br /><br />I found myself on board after hearing the premise of Spector's original <em>Epic Mickey</em>, mostly because Disney held nearly all of their shorts hostage on a premium cable channel during my childhood. If I wanted to soak up knowledge about the studio's earlier works, why not do it in Spector-engineered video game form?<br /><br />According to critics and consumers, the experiment didn't turn out so well. Epic Mickey didn't aspire to greater heights than "competent N64 platformer," and gamers regarded the series as such. Tragically enough, Spector had been sitting on a much better - though not necessarily more popular - property while developing Epic Mickey: Disney's <em>Uncle Scrooge</em> comics, best known to children of the '80s as the animated adaptation DuckTales.<br /><br />Spector had written for the newly launched DuckTales comic between Epic Mickey installments, and during a PAX Prime 2012 interview, I managed to sneak in a few questions that confirmed his interest in making a game that starred Disney's crankiest curmudgeon. His vague, non-committal statements didn't exactly set the Internet on fire, but they at least gave us all a moment to pause and fantasize about what a modern DuckTales game would look like.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/11/ducktales-remastered-runs-on-more-than-nostalgia/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DuckTales Remastered runs on more than nostalgia</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/11/ducktales-remastered-runs-on-more-than-nostalgia/">DuckTales Remastered runs on more than nostalgia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Apr 2013 18:45:00 EST. All versions will march into stores this July.<br /><br />Each playable Smurf has unique special abilities: Papa Smurf can throw potions, Grouchy can stomp, and Vanity can ... pose to become a platform. We don't expect too much from a licensed Smurfs game, but WayForward has a particular talent for licensed games, with <em>Aliens: Infestation</em> and <em>Adventure Time</em> as recent examples.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2/">The Smurfs 2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2/#5802953"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/smurfs2enchantedforestfinal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2/#5802954"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/smurfs2nycfinal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2/#5802955"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/smurfs2paris001final_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2/#5802956"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/smurfs2paris002final_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2/#5802957"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/smurfs2paris003final_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2-ds/">The Smurfs 2 (DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2-ds/#5802989"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/smurfs2ds01final_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2-ds/#5802990"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/smurfs2ds02final_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-smurfs-2-ds/#5802991"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/smurfs2ds03final_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/10/wayforward-smurfing-the-smurfs-2-game-for-ubismurf/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>WayForward smurfing the Smurfs 2 game for Ubismurf</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/10/wayforward-smurfing-the-smurfs-2-game-for-ubismurf/">WayForward smurfing the Smurfs 2 game for Ubismurf</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Apr 2013 22:00:00 EST. Capcom producer Rey Jimenez revealed to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2013/04/01/ducktales-remastered-expands-story-explains-why-theres-a-giant-rat-on-the-moon/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+siliconera%2FMkOc+%28Siliconera%29">Siliconera</a> that a new cutscene is among the material being added in the remake, explaining the setup for the whole game - why Huey, Dewey and Louie need rescuing.<br /><br />The famous Moon level also gets a bit of backstory. "In the NES version, you fight a big rat and it didn't explain why you're fighting a rat on the moon," Jimenez noted. The remake of the NES game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/capcom-reveals-new-ducktales-game/">announced at PAX East</a> for XBLA, PSN, and Wii U. Now, according to Capcom Senior VP Christian Svensson, a PC confirmation is in the works.<br /><br />When queried about a PC version in the <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/29823733/mr-sven-what-about-a-pc-version-for-ducktales?post_num=16#530158511http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/29823733/mr-sven-what-about-a-pc-version-for-ducktales?post_num=16#530158511">Ask Capcom</a> forum, Svensson said, "Working on it. When I can confirm it, I will do so but for now, hang tight." To us, that sounds very positive.<br /><br />And lo, did a chorus of PC owners <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frGLMtGsotc&amp;t=0m23s">woo-oo</a>. We'll let you know if/when that confirmation comes in. Director Austin Ivansmith told host Jonathan Holmes that <em>Mighty Switch Force 2</em> will be released on 3DS "in the next few months." Officer Patricia Wagon is returning, but leaving her policework behind for "a surprise career change."<br /><br />Ivansmith also revealed that Mighty Switch Force was originally conceived as a sequel to the DS/PSP's <em>Mighty Flip Champs.</em> Trying to build the screen-flipping mechanics into a single-screen game led to enough changes that it became its own thing. "The Mighty series itself is almost a joke," Ivansmith noted, as none of the games in the series really have anything to do with one another.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/25/mighty-switch-force-2-coming-to-3ds-eshop/">Mighty Switch Force 2 coming to 3DS eShop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Feb 2013 10:30:00 EST. Nice try."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/28/tomm-hulett-looks-wayforward-and-looks-back-on-silent-hill/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tomm Hulett looks WayForward, and looks back on Silent Hill</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/28/tomm-hulett-looks-wayforward-and-looks-back-on-silent-hill/">Tomm Hulett looks WayForward, and looks back on Silent Hill</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jan 2013 12:00:00 EST. We've reached out to Hulett for more information on his new position, somehow managing not to beg for a lifetime of WayForward Contra sequels in the process. Its adorable characters, hilarious dialogue and surprisingly complex and storied mythology set it apart from the vast majority of "children's" entertainment out there. Other programs like <em>Regular Show</em> may be roughly as funny, but <em>Adventure Time</em>'s contemporaries often lack its poignant subtext and stellar character development.<br /><br />Needless to say, I love <em>Adventure Time</em> dearly. So, when I first heard about WayForward's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/adventure-time-hey-ice-king"><em>Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!</em></a> for the DS and 3DS, my initial reaction was one of both joy and concern. I want there to be a game for my favorite cartoon, of course, but "portable game based on a Cartoon Network property" isn't usually a phrase that inspires confidence.<br /><br />Well, be confident. <em>Hey Ice King</em> isn't going to win any awards for innovative design, but the <em>soul</em> of the show is present in gratuitous quantities.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/adventure-time-hey-ice-king-whyd-you-steal-our-garbage-10-18-12/">Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! The Bone Daggers, for example, can be thrown into walls to make footholds.<br /><br />You can see a few screens on Nintendo Power's preview page, but to see more you should consider buying the actual magazine.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/06/shantae-and-the-pirates-curse-coming-to-3ds-eshop/">'Shantae and the Pirate's Curse' coming to 3DS eShop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Nov 2012 20:00:00 EST. In Silent Hill the town that means you're tormented by monsters based on your worst fears; in <em>Book of Memories</em> it means that your expectations can color the experience.<br /><br />Basically, if you go in knowing it's a dungeon crawler with Silent Hill visuals, you'll be much happier than if you go in expecting a Silent Hill game. It's true, the music has some real crunk beats. It's a mega jam of 80s happening hip, and we happen to think it's boss.<br /><br />So how radical is it that its composer, Jake Kaufman, just made <a href="http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/double-dragon-neon">the entire soundtrack </a>available for free? Yes, it's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C_M1TNNeHg">very</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntG50eXbBtc">awesome</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDK9QqIzhwk">radical</a>.<br /><br />All 45 tracks from the PSN/XBLA game can be found on <a href="http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/double-dragon-neon">Kaufman's site</a>. While they can be downloaded at no cost, it would be hella bunk of us to not say that you can send some money Jake's way by naming your price. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBe0VCso0qs">Fresh</a>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/12/double-dragon-neons-rad-awesome-soundtrack-available-for-free/">Double Dragon Neon's rad awesome soundtrack available for free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 12 Sep 2012 13:00:00 EST. As a top-down, multiplayer Silent Hill, it's an oddity among horror games and among <em>Silent Hills</em>.<br /><br />We wanted to know more about how this unusual game came to be, so we went to publisher Konami and developer WayForward to get some insight on the development process behind <em>Book of Memories</em>.<br /><div> <br /> The two companies responded with a surprisingly detailed development timeline for <em>Silent Hill: Book of Memories</em>, and a wealth of never-before-seen images from throughout the process, including screenshots of a PC demo WayForward put together to convince Konami they were the right team for the job. We've also spoken at length to Konami producer Tomm Hulett and WayForward Director Adam Tierney about the motivations behind the game's design.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/31/development-timeline-silent-hill-book-of-memories/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Development timeline: Silent Hill Book of Memories</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/31/development-timeline-silent-hill-book-of-memories/">Development timeline: Silent Hill Book of Memories</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Jul 2012 15:00:00 EST. In fact, Ward's vision of our magical post-apocalyptic future in the Land of Ooo is so unique and tonally specific, it's been hard to believe that WayForward could properly capture that essence.<br /><br />After seeing this footage of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/08/fall-2012-is-adventure-time-on-3ds-and-ds/"><em>Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!!</em></a>, however, we're starting to feel a little better about it. The action appears distinctly <em>Zelda II</em>-ish, with Jake the Dog and Finn the Human navigating top-down overworlds and side-scrolling sections. Hopefully this trend of reassurance continues as we approach the game's fall 2012 release window.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/15/first-adventure-time-footage-shows-giant-worm-king-cosmic-owl/">First Adventure Time footage shows Giant Worm King, Cosmic Owl, promise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 15 Jul 2012 18:55:00 EST. Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!</em></a> has popped up over at <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/browse?nav=16k-Adventure+Time+Hey+Ice+King+Why+d+you+steal+our">GameStop</a>, presumably as a retailer exclusive - we're checking on that. Both the 3DS and DS version toss in a custom stylus shaped like Finn's sword, Land of Ooo poster, steelbook packaging made to look like the Enchiridion (the handbook Finn is always lugging around) and an art book.<br /><br />It's a pretty significant package for $39.99. We've also inquired about a regular version, one that could possibly be cheaper and void of less awesome stuff.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/13/adventure-time-collectors-edition-spotted/">Adventure Time 'collector's edition' spotted</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Jul 2012 23:25:00 EST. Mighty Switch Force HD is the same game released on 3DS - with the bonus levels added in a recent update - but remade and redrawn in high resolution for the Wii U's HD output.<br /><br />The WiiPad will be used to display the location of each of the fugitives you're hunting down, just as the touchscreen does on the 3DS version. "When roaming without a TV," WayForward creative director Matt Bozon told Nintendo Power, "a smaller onscreen compass points the way. While this is admittedly not a groundbreaking use of the second screen, it does give the player a few very handy options."<br /><br />Here it is: the very first 3DS to Wii U remake. We expect to see plenty of these in the future.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/02/mighty-switch-force-going-hd-as-a-wii-u-download/">Mighty Switch Force going HD as a Wii U download</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jul 2012 20:00:00 EST. Other retailers don't yet agree: <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita/games/silent-hill-book-of-memories/99306">GameStop</a> says May 22, and <a href="http://www.gamefly.com/Rent-Silent-Hill-Book-of-Memories/5001620/#.T7EzU59YvMA">GameFly</a> has a terrifying "TBD" date.<br /><br />At least Amazon's $5 credit offer is active, if you pre-order the game in advance of its eventual release. And in other sort of good news, the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hill-Memories-Daniel-Licht/dp/B007AU26DW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1337013096&amp;sr=8-2">soundtrack</a> was released last month, so you can listen to that while you wait. The answer, it seems, is to build a Garbage Princess, which Finn and Jake have to then rescue for some reason. Maybe they just want to beat up the Ice King again.<br /><br />D3Publisher officially announced the game today, announcing plans to release both DS and 3DS versions this fall. Players will get to control both Finn and Jake through "a unique action-adventure experience" designed in collaboration with Pendleton Ward, creator of the show. The bright '80s colors weren't doing it for me. The character models for protagonists Jimmy and Billy looked hunched and unnatural. Their attacks were stilted and limited. The enemy designs were silly and altogether over the top.<br /><br />The second time I played it, however, I slipped on a pair of headphones and something happened. The <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqRt_2JIGVE">classic <em>Double Dragon</em> music</a> washed over me, reworked with 80s synth and electric guitar, and I saw something I hadn't noticed before: potential.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/">Double Dragon: Neon</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951891"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951892"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951894"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/double-dragon-neon/#4951895"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/doubledragonneon05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/double-dragon-neon-flickers-with-signs-of-life/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Double Dragon Neon flickers with signs of life</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/11/double-dragon-neon-flickers-with-signs-of-life/">Double Dragon Neon flickers with signs of life</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 08:00:00 EST. The result is <em>Double Dragon: Neon</em>, a side-scrolling brawler in a totally '80s setting.<br /><br />This time, twins Billy and Jimmy Lee are fighting to save Marian from "Skullmageddon," who, judging from concept art, has an army of <a href="http://www.ign.com/images/games/double-dragon-neon-xbox-360-131320/3621820">wizards</a>, <a href="http://www.ign.com/images/games/double-dragon-neon-xbox-360-131320/3621814">cyborg police</a>, and <a href="http://www.ign.com/images/games/double-dragon-neon-xbox-360-131320/3621812">Linda</a>. It's scheduled for release on PSN (for PS3) and XBLA this July. Is "downloadable, high-definition 2D franchise revival from WayForward and Majesco" going to become an annual summer tradition? We'd be okay with that.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/04/wayforward-adds-a-dose-of-neon-to-double-dragon-for-xbla-and-psn/">WayForward adds a dose of Neon to Double Dragon for XBLA and PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Apr 2012 13:30:00 EST. There's going to be a DS game based on Cartoon Network's surreal <a href="http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/adventuretime/index.html"><em>Adventure Time with Finn and Jake</em></a>. Details are few, but weird animated GIFs are numerous, thanks to <em>Adventure Time</em> creator Pendleton Ward, who tweeted the news with a <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/buenothebear/status/183071630782775297">series</a> of <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/buenothebear/status/183076308291555328">DS</a>-<a href="https://twitter.com/#!/buenothebear/status/183081473136533504">related</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/buenothebear/status/183087909539287040">drawings</a>. You should go look at all of those.<br /><br />While posting these great images, Ward also revealed that the "sweet sweet DS game, being made at WayForward Technologies, will come out later this year." We're contacting WayForward to learn more, but we can already declare this news <em>rhombus</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/23/wayforward-working-on-adventure-time-ds-game/">Wayforward working on Adventure Time DS game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Mar 2012 11:30:00 EST. You know what they say about March: In like a lion, out like a twitchy, messed up sex monster. That is to say that Konami has revealed that <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-hd-collection"><em>Silent Hill HD Collection</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-downpour"><em>Silent Hill: Downpour</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-book-of-memories"><em>Silent Hill: Book of Memories</em></a> will <em>all</em> be released this March. Breaking it all down, <em>HD Collection</em> will be released on March 6, <em>Downpour</em> on March 13 and the Vita exclusive <em>Book of Memories</em> on March 27.<br />
<br />
Then again, maybe a March release makes sense, what with the madness and all. Check out some new screens of the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 iteration, <em>Silent Hill: Downpour</em>, in the gallery below.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/">Silent Hill Downpour (1/12/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746239"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746240"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746241"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746242"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/silent-hill-downpour-1-12-12/#4746243"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/shdownpour5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/silent-hill-release-dates-march-2012/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Silent Hill HD Collection, Downpour and Book of Memories all coming in March</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/silent-hill-release-dates-march-2012/">Silent Hill HD Collection, Downpour and Book of Memories all coming in March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Jan 2012 14:00:00 EST. In each installment, we'll tell you about a downloadable game on the iPhone, iPad, Android device, DSi, 3DS, PSP, etc. Today: <span style="font-style: italic;">Mighty Switch Force!</span></font></div>

WayForward's <em>Mighty Switch Force</em> masquerades as a run-and-gun shooter, but the eShop game is basically a puzzle game, albeit one of the few puzzle games I can think of that's reflex-heavy enough to encourage speedrunning. That emphasis on speed allows a game with a relatively small set of levels to become a long-term pastime.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/">Mighty Switch Force (3DS eShop)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/#4696893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/i32221_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/#4696894"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/i32222_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/#4696895"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/i32223_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/#4696896"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/12/i32224_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/26/portabliss-mighty-switch-force-3ds-eshop/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Portabliss: Mighty Switch Force! Couldn't bother to shell out $14.99 for WayForward's delightful, 2D action-platformer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bloodrayne-betrayal"><em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal</em></a>? What if we knocked three bucks clean off that price? Well, not us, so much as Sony, who is doing just that for one week on the PlayStation Store.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/06/bloodrayne-betrayal-gets-a-temporary-price-cut-on-psn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bloodrayne: Betrayal gets a temporary price cut on PSN</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/06/bloodrayne-betrayal-gets-a-temporary-price-cut-on-psn/">Bloodrayne: Betrayal gets a temporary price cut on PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Dec 2011 16:43:00 EST. That's <em>amazingly</em> convenient! The only inconvenient part of it is finding the right games to buy -- and that's where we come in, with our <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/portabliss">Portabliss</a> column. In each installment, we'll tell you about a downloadable game on the iPhone, iPad, Android device, DSi, 3DS, PSP, etc. Today: <span style="font-style: italic;">Shantae: Risky's Revenge.</span></font>
<hr size="2" style="padding-left: 5px; " width="100%" />

For many reasons, some worthwhile and some not so much, people balk at the idea of playing a DSiWare game. And that means that most of them missed <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shantae-riskys-revenge">Shantae: Risky's Revenge</a></em>, which was not only the highest-rated DS game of last year, but happens to be a <em>damned lovable</em> game.<br />
<br />
It's a good thing, then, that it's come to a download store that people are willing to admit patronizing (the iOS App Store). And the virtual controls work well enough that you'll be able to enjoy the game, though you may find yourself occasionally pining for the luxury of a d-pad you can both see and feel.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/portabliss-shantae-riskys-revenge-ios-dsiware/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Portabliss: Shantae Risky's Revenge (iOS/DSiWare)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/portabliss-shantae-riskys-revenge-ios-dsiware/">Portabliss: Shantae Risky's Revenge (iOS/DSiWare)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Nov 2011 06:30:00 EST. Originally slated for Fall 2011, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-hd-collection"><em>Silent Hill HD Collection</em></a> is now heading to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on January 24, 2012. Konami is also putting Silent Hill's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-book-of-memories">first PlayStation Vita outing</a>, <em>Book of Memories</em>, in the handheld's launch window of February 2012 (Vita itself hits retailers <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/18/playstation-vita-to-launch-in-north-america-on-february-22/">on February 22</a>).<br />
<br />
Rounding out the survival-horror trio of launches, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/silent-hill-downpour"><em>Silent Hill Downpour</em></a> falls to retail sometime in March. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/10/silent-hill-downpour-officially-pushed-to-q1-2012/">pushed back</a> to the murky "Q1 2012" earlier this month, but it seems that Konami has cleared things up. Here's hoping you're ready for a surprisingly macabre beginning to 2012!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/2012-goes-silent-hill-crazy-with-book-of-memories-hd-collection/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2012 goes Silent Hill crazy with Book of Memories, HD Collection, and Downpour launching in Q1</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/2012-goes-silent-hill-crazy-with-book-of-memories-hd-collection/">2012 goes Silent Hill crazy with Book of Memories, HD Collection, and Downpour launching in Q1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 10:25:00 EST. Whether you're a fervent supporter of independent development studio WayFoward or you're a diehard fan of the illustrious Shantae franchise -- and, really, who isn't -- you'll have reason to celebrate tomorrow. <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/WayForwardTech/status/128985668755009537">WayForward</a> just announced on Twitter that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/shantae-riskys-revenge"><em>Shantae: Risky's Revenge</em></a> will arrive on the iOS App Store tomorrow.<br />
<br />
If you're familiar with the DSiWare original, you're in for a similar experience, though the game has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/shantae-riskys-revenge-coming-to-ios-soon/">optimized</a> to make it a bit more virtual-controller-friendly. Which is to say, it's a little bit easier this time around. Also, whenever you die because you jumped when you meant to attack, a soothing note pops up, reminding you not to hurl your phone into oncoming traffic.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/26/wayforwards-shantae-headed-to-ios-this-thursday/">WayForward's Shantae headed to iOS this Thursday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Oct 2011 13:30:00 EST.
