<div style="text-align: left;">This here is another one of those posts that takes us three hours to write, because we accidentally become infatuated with the subject we're writing about. Atari and <a href="http://www.omgpop.com/games/missilecommand#/arcade/gamelobby/missilecommand">online game developer OMGPop</a> recently launched <a href="http://atari.com/missilecommand/">a completely renovated, web-based</a> version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/missile-command"><em>Missile Command</em></a>. It retains the same steamy missile-on-missile action of the original arcade title, but adds some neat new gameplay mechanics in the form of power-ups, character progression, social networking features and seven-player co-op.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
Check out <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/2889/">the trailer above</a>, then create a profile and start saving the world with six strangers <a href="http://atari.com/missilecommand/">on Atari's site</a>. It's totally free -- unless, of course, you buy into the adage that "time is money," because it will <em>certainly</em> cost you some of that.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/25/atari-launches-free-to-play-web-based-co-op-missile-command/">Atari launches free-to-play, web-based, co-op Missile Command</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Feb 2010 20:30:00 EST. <a href="http://games.adultswim.com/cream-wolf-twitchy-online-game.html"><em>Cream Wolf</em></a>, the most recent release on the prestigious Adult Swim line of browser-based games, might just be the first surprise smash hit of 2010 so far. It's been <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/02/19/you-should-be-playing-cream-wolf-right-now/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MultiplayerBlog+%28Multiplayer+Blog%29">sweeping through</a> <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/the-less-you-know-before-playing-cream-wolf-the-better-164249.phtml">the gaming press</a>, swooning everyone who comes in contact with it. After spending a half hour with the game, we completely understand why -- and we wager you will too. Seriously, <a href="http://games.adultswim.com/cream-wolf-twitchy-online-game.html">go play it</a>.<br />
<br />
We're not going to spoil the game by going into <em>too</em> much detail about it, though we will say that you're a werewolf who sells ice cream to kids. That's a good enough jumping off point for your imagination, we think.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/21/we-now-understand-why-everyone-loves-cream-wolf/">We now understand why everyone loves Cream Wolf</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 21 Feb 2010 21:00:00 EST. According to information <a href="http://www.appdata.com/facebook/apps/index/id/102452128776">collected by AppData</a>, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/farmville"><em>FarmVille</em></a> player base passed the 80 million mark yesterday. We'll give you a second to soak that in. It might help you digest it if we present the number numerically: 80,920,421. Or, perhaps you need another point of reference: That's almost the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population">population of <em>Germany</em></a>. If you tried to orally count the number of people currently playing <em>FarmVille</em>, it would take you close to four years. And God only knows how large the player base would be <em>then</em>.<br />
<br />
In related news, Zynga CEO Mark Pincus recently bought a yacht <em>for his yacht</em>. It's just a smaller yacht, that rests precariously on the bow of the larger yacht, in case the larger yacht breaks down. A <em>lifeyacht</em>, if you will.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Atari has a <a href="http://www.atari.com">new website</a>. We know -- <em>big deal</em>, right? Actually, in this case it's worth checking out if you're a fan of the company's classic arcade and console games. That's because the site is offering up free-to-play browser-based versions of <em>Adventure</em> and <em>Yar's Revenge </em>for the Atari 2600 and the legendary coin-ops <em>Battlezone</em>, <em>Crystal Castles</em> and Lunar Lander.<br />
<br />
The site's Arcade page is <a href="http://atari.com/arcade">at this link</a>, should you not want to risk an encounter with <em>dreaded marketing materials</em> on your way to <em>the good stuff</em>. Remember: If your boss catches you blowing up vector tanks and space rocks while you're on the clock, you didn't hear about the site from us.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/24/play-old-atari-games-at-the-new-atari-com/">Play old Atari games at the new Atari.com</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Nov 2009 05:00:00 EST. Has your ultra-hip, J<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siSHJfPWxs8">ustin Long-approved</a> operating system kept you from joining in the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quake-live">Quake Live</a> </em>online gib-fest? <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175567">1UP recently reported</a> on a recent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quakecon-2009">QuakeCon 2009</a> announcement which should bring some joy to your empty, empty life -- on Tuesday, August 18, the title will be patched to allow Mac and Linux users to access the game's web-based bounty. Since the service's launch, this has by far been the most requested feature from free-to-play FPS lovers worldwide. It's nice to see id <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/03/quake-live-update-adding-new-maps-mac-and-linux-support-coming/">deliver on its promise</a> to incorporate the non-Windows contingency.<br /><br />Of course, we're still running a version of Digital UNIX circa 1995, so we might just be permanently S.O.L.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/14/mac-and-linux-users-joining-quake-live-community-august-18/">Mac and Linux users joining Quake Live community August 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Aug 2009 13:30:00 EST. Following the style of their claim to fame, the title will place you in the shoes of an adventurer who uses pets to do his or her pugilistic grunt work, though with various races and classes <a href="http://www.twinskies.com/company/faqs">mentioned on their FAQs page</a>, we imagine your character can hold their own in a ruckus.<br /><br />Arguably the coolest thing about the title is the integration of various web-based minigames set apart from the actual title. For instance, winning one minigame might unlock a monster for you to use in <em>Twin Skies</em>, while another might reward you with valuable <em>lewts</em> upon your next login. While subscription fees haven't been decided upon, the game will be free to download <a href="http://www.twinskies.com/">direct from the <em>Twin Skies</em> site</a>. We'll definitely be looking forward to this title's <a href="http://www.pennyarcadeexpo.com/">first appearance at PAX</a>, if only to see if "my <em>Twin Skies </em>pets, <a href="http://robola.wordpress.com/2006/11/14/chuckles-let-me-show-you-my-pokemans/">let me show you them</a>" really has the same ring to it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/13/neopets-creators-reveal-monster-taming-mmo-twin-skies/">Neopets creators reveal monster taming MMO Twin Skies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 13 Jul 2008 18:00:00 EST.
