The developer's goal is to reach $350k on the funding platform in order to complete Wings: Director's Cut, which would include new missions and story elements not seen in the original game.

Per its Kickstarter page for the project, the game is in development for PC and both Android and iOS mobile platforms. Additionally, the company noted its excitement for the Ouya console (which finished its own crowd-funding campaign at $8.5 million this past week), saying it "became official supporters of the Ouya campaign on Kickstarter, and are in line to receive a development kit." Ouya support is in the works for Wings: Director's Cut since Cinemaware has to use that development kit for something, after all.
Continue reading Cinemaware is back at it with a Kickstarter campaign for Wings: Director's Cut

Cinemaware is back at it with a Kickstarter campaign for Wings: Director's Cut originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 12 Aug 2012 12:00:00 EST. In an interview with Germany's Die Zeit, McCartney was asked if he'd consider writing music for a video game. He responded that he's already working on it.

McCartney said he finds the video game market fascinating and was excited by the opportunity to work on a game project. He noted that growing up, he only had radio and records, but now music is everywhere. He feels that by writing music for a game that it may be the first time his music will be heard by the next generation.

There's also the business of music. McCartney said, "A new computer game is selling these days so much better than a new CD. And you reach a different audience." Might we suggest Paul of Duty, a music shooter. It worked out well for Aerosmith.
Paul McCartney working on music for video game originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 09:10:00 EST. The post-Yule Rock Band DLC update from the newly-reindependent Harmonix will celebrate with tracks from Paul McCartney and Wings' 1973 album "Band on the Run," which was remastered earlier this year by the same team that did the Beatles' catalog. There will also be songs from Inhabited and Siouxsie and The Banshees released.

The update will be available next week on Xbox 360 and Wii, while PS3 updates go on hiatus until January 4. Run on past the break for the complete DLC details.
Continue reading Rock Band Weekly: Paul McCartney, Inhabited, Siouxsie and The Banshees

Rock Band Weekly: Paul McCartney, Inhabited, Siouxsie and The Banshees originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 23 Dec 2010 13:30:00 EST. If you're itching to try your hand at NCSoft's upcoming winged MMORPG, Aion, before its September 22 release, a recent press release has announced two methods of doing so. The first is probably the more noteworthy option -- the game is going into open beta for one week only starting Sunday, September 6. The sneak preview will allow players from both of the game's factions to reach level 30, and lets them fly, fight and fly-fight through every locale from the full game.

The second opportunity to beat the release day rush is by pre-ordering the game -- those who pursue this option can pre-select their servers and character names on September 18, then start playing a full 48 hours in advance on September 20. Is the five-dollars-down worth the exclusive pre-launch access? Sadly, we can't make that decision for you. We can, however, tell you what to have for lunch: Nachos. You're welcome.
NCSoft announces Aion open beta dates, pre-orders get early access originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 18:00:00 EST. In checking out their preview, we noticed that there is a lot of new information on the game. As such, we're doing the gentlemanly thing and presenting it to you, fine reader, in the most entertaining way possible: with our minds. Why yes, dear reader, in fact right now you are staring at a blank computer screen, it is us who have projected the image of this website into your mind and, might we say, it's awfully cold and vacant up here.

Jokes about your intelligence aside, some of the newly-acquired facts on the title include:

The game will feature over 50 different summons, with each varying in rank (three total ranks)

The third rank summon may only be used once in each map

A section of the airship will be used to house in-game achievements, taking the form of monuments

The Salamander summon has been changed from a lizard to a wild boar

A beauty, no?

Square-Enix is bombarding the DS with meteor showers of love. Here's a little "DS Bi-Daily" for ya: do you think Square-Enix's support means as much as it once did? By diversifying its game library and stepping into the realms of spin-offs and direct sequels, many feel as though they've watered down the intense quality of software they once provided. Or are we just insane? This is huge news: this franchise is second only to perhaps Final Fantasy in Japan, and still one of the most respected names in gaming worldwide. Having the title being developed exclusively on a Nintendo system is a clear show of faith from SE (they're also releasing a Final Fantasy XII sequel, Revenant Wings, sometime next year), and hopefully, even more Wii and DS support will follow.

Development of the game is being passed over to Level 5 (also working on White Knight Story for the PS3), and it'll feature a four-player co-op mode as well. Of course, there's no definite release date, but the team mentioned that they'd like to have it out sometime in 2007.

Let this news wash over your Tuesday, and make it full of glee and joy. Bring on DQIXDS!

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in, and GoNintendo for the pic!]
Japan set to implode: Dragon's Quest IX is a DS exclusive originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 12 Dec 2006 02:31:00 EST. Details on the game have been scarce at best, confirming only that the game features FFXII protagonist Vaan and his sky pirate-y adventures.

That's all well and good, but many were concerned about the apparent "prequel" nature of the game. Worry not, stalwart fans! Revenant Wings will be a true sequel, taking place shortly after the events of Final Fantasy XII. In addition to Vaan, the dynamic duo of Fran and Balthier will also be returning, as well as a promised host of new characters. The game will take place on the floating landmass of Puruvama (if it's in the original game, we haven't reached it yet), and apparently, a large portion of locations from the PS2 title will be playable.

The battle system has also undergone some changes: combat will feature stylus control and a simplified version of the Gambit system. Also, summoning will be completely overhauled and used in a rather unique way, say the developers. Both screens will be properly utilized, and finally, there are no current plans for Wi-Fi functionality.

Though be it ever rare to see from us heaping praise upon a Playstation 2 game, Final Fantasy XII is a veritable masterpiece, and the sequel can't come soon enough.

New Revenant Wings details uncovered originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 06 Nov 2006 17:30:00 EST. In speaking with Hiromichi Tanaka, Senior Vice President of Software Development and Tomoya Asano, Producer, it's revealed that due to the already insane success from the game's launch in Japan, Square-Enix is looking to adopt a strategy of just outright remaking classic Final Fantasy titles, as opposed to just porting them as they did with Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI.

So with ports to the GBA, remakes hitting the DS, as well as brand-new spin-off games, Square-Enix is staking a mighty large claim on the DS. We couldn't be happier, to tell the truth.
FFIII creators talk other remakes on DS originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 26 Sep 2006 12:00:00 EST. The trailer is comprised totally of FMV, as is Square's usual standard of practice, yet still manages to get us excited. We loves the RPGS, bring 'em on!

Continue past the break to check out the trailer.
Continue reading TGS 2006: FFXII Revenant Wings trailer and art

TGS 2006: FFXII Revenant Wings trailer and art originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 22 Sep 2006 11:45:00 EST.
