It's rare you can do something nice at the same time as you get a little something for yourself, but today presents just such an opportunity. Until January 17, you can get tons of discounted DLC, including some XBLA games, from an upstart indie called "Activision" through Xbox Live Marketplace. All the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-world-at-war">Call of Duty: World at War</a> </em>map packs are just 400 points, for example, and you can find the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/guitar-hero-warriors-of-rock">Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock</a> "</em>Linkin Park Pack" for just 480 plus<em> our terrible, eye-rolling judgment</em>.<br />
<br />
We know it can be daunting to spend your hard-earned dough on a no-name publisher, but trust us: We've been following these scrappy kids, and we feel pretty confident that they're going places. Peruse the full list of discounts after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/11/select-activision-dlc-on-sale-on-xblm-until-jan-17/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Select Activision content on sale on XBLM until Jan 17</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/11/select-activision-dlc-on-sale-on-xblm-until-jan-17/">Select Activision content on sale on XBLM until Jan 17</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Jan 2011 17:00:00 EST. So you've learned what dominated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/final-fantasy-viii-tops-psn-sales-for-december/">December's PSN sales</a>. But what about the other eleven months of the year? Sony has released a list of the top 10 premium downloads from the PlayStation Store for 2009.<br />
<br />
1) <em> Call of Duty: World at Wa</em>r Map Pack 1<br />
2)  <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> Map Pack 2<br />
3)  <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> Map Pack 3<br />
4)  <em>FIFA 09</em> Gold Pack<br />
5)  <em>Final Fantasy VII</em> (PS3/PSP)<br />
6)  <em>Battlefield 1943</em><br />
7)  <em>Fat Princess</em><br />
8)  <em>MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2</em><br />
9) <em> Flower</em><br />
10) <em>Mortal Kombat II</em><br />
<br />
Looks like people answered the <em>Call of Duty</em> ... by opening up their wallets. Undoubtedly, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/analyst-modern-warfare-2-dlc-could-make-140-million-in-2010/"><em>Modern Warfare 2</em> DLC</a> is likely to top 2010's sales figures. Finally, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/battlefield-1943"><em>Battlefield 1943</em></a> claims the award for top PSN game of the year, besting the PSN-exclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fat-princess"><em>Fat Princess</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/call-of-duty-dlc-tops-psns-2009-sales/">Call of Duty DLC tops PSN's 2009 sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jan 2010 07:15:00 EST. Seriously, guys? Everyone on the planet <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/12/modern-warfare-2-breaks-record-with-4-7-million-in-day-one-sales/">runs out and buys <em>Modern Warfare 2</em></a> and you're still playing <em>Call of Duty 4 </em>and <em>World at War</em>? We can understand you folks who chose to play <em>Halo 3</em> -- the whole <em>Modern Warfare 2</em> experience may not be your idea of a good time -- but <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/11/17/live-activity-for-week-of-nov-9th.aspx">Major Nelson's Xbox Live activity chart</a> for the week of November 9 simply vexes us.<br />
<br />
In less puzzling news, the XBLA activity is along the lines of something we're used to seeing. <em>Trials HD</em> remains atop the list, followed by <em>Castle Crashers</em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/x3f-tv-xbla-in-brief-south-park-lucidity/"><em>South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play</em></a>. Konami's <em>Zombie Apocalypse</em> also managed to survive the gauntlet and make its way onto the list and, combined with the recent release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em></a>, we feel mankind is finally starting to reach acceptable levels of preparation for the inevitable future of a world plagued by the undead.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/18/xbox-live-top-10-people-apparently-played-cod4-world-at-war/">Xbox Live Top 10: People apparently played CoD4, World at War</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Nov 2009 10:30:00 EST. Look, just feign surprise, it makes these financial posts <em>so much more</em> exciting: Activision today reported net revenues of $755 million (on a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generally_Accepted_Accounting_Principles">non-GAAP</a> basis) in the quarter ending September 30, 2009 -- that's $55 million more than the suits hoped to stack, according to previous projections. While the blockbuster adaptation of <em>Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen</em> might have played a part in this outpouring of <em>our</em> money, we're gonna go with Kotick's explanation: "Our performance was driven by positive audience response to Activision Publishing's <em>Guitar Hero 5, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2,</em> and the <em>Guitar Hero</em> and <em>Call of Duty</em> franchises, as well as Blizzard Entertainment's <em>World of Warcraft</em>."<br />
<br />
In fact, the CEO called <em>Guitar Hero</em> the year's "#1 best-selling third-party franchise in North America and Europe" through September, claiming that U.S. sales of music games increased 72 percent year over year in September. Last year's big-band-box edition, <em>World Tour, </em>and <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> combined for total, <em>world </em>domination, becoming this year's "#1 and #2 best-selling third-party titles" in North America and Europe through September, according to Activision. Additionally, <em>World at War</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/npd-says-average-cod-world-at-war-player-has-spent-9-on-dlc/">DLC map pack sales</a> continued to climb last quarter and have now surpassed 7.5 million purchases.<br />
<br />
Needless to say, the publisher is not backing off of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/05/activision-exceeds-own-expectations-in-fiscal-q2/">prior financial outlook</a>. Activision anticipates annual net revenues of $4.5 billion (on a non-GAAP basis) at the close of the year. Did you remember to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/modern-warfare-2/">feign surprise</a>?</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/05/guitar-hero-call-of-duty-franchises-lead-activisions-better-t/">Guitar Hero, Call of Duty franchises lead Activision's 'better-than-expected' Q3 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 17:32:00 EST. Looks like this deal isn't just for Xbox 360 owners. Activision has slashed the price of the <em>World at War</em> map packs. As Richard <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/all-cod-world-at-war-map-packs-5-until-nov-1/">noted</a>, "it's just a cash grab before <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2"><em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2</em></a> makes everyone forget <em>World at War</em>, but hey, it's hard to argue with cheap."<br /><br />In addition to this sale, all <em>World at War</em> servers will feature double XP. If there were any doubt left in your mind that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty"><em>Call of Duty</em></a> is a popular franchise, a recent report from <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25743">Gamasutra</a> should firmly cement the fact in your mind. According to the piece, <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/10/call-of-duty-world-at-war-map-pack-coming-in-march/">three</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/18/call-of-duty-world-at-war-map-pack-2-sells-one-million-first-we/">DLC</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/21/third-cod-world-at-war-map-pack-enlists-one-million-on-first-we/">packs</a> digitally pushed 6.5 million units between March and mid-August of 2009 across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.<br /><br />As you might imagine, those kind of numbers add up to a lot of extra revenue for the mega-publisher - the piece approximates a <em>cool $45 million</em>. Taking that one step further, the average cost of each box of <em>CoD: WaW</em> sold at retail becomes $65. We're not sure if that number accounts for the chunk taken out by Microsoft and Sony respectively for distribution, but even cut in half that's still a nice chunk of change. <br /><br />So today, we'd like to officially announce that we're changing the site's name to <em>Call of Duty: Joystiq</em>. Call it a <em>strategic business move</em> - it's all about brand recognition, people!<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> To be clear, the $45 million number is an approximation by Gamasutra, put together with information from NPD, EEDAR, and Activision PR. It was apparently calculated by taking 65% of 7 million units at $10 a piece, without accounting for giveaways or bundles.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/npd-says-average-cod-world-at-war-player-has-spent-9-on-dlc/">Report: Average CoD World at War player has spent $9 on DLC [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Oct 2009 15:43:00 EST. If your devout WASDing-and-mousing ways have turned you into a frequent player of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> on the PC, you'll be pleased to know that Treyarch hasn't forgotten about you. (a.k.a. JD_2020 on the Treyarch forums), the patch is "in test right now, and is looking great." Treyarch's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> has been quite the retail success for Activision, as <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/call-of-duty-world-at-war-passes-11-million-units">Edge</a> has revealed the game has sold a ridiculous 11 million copies across all platforms. And Activision is mighty proud, as the company's strategy of alternating development on the franchise has paid off. Add the success of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/world-at-war-dlc-reaches-2-million-downloads/">the game's DLC</a>, and you've got yourself one nice money-printing machine.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/16/over-11-million-enlisted-in-call-of-duty-world-at-war/">Over 11 million enlisted in Call of Duty: World at War</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Jun 2009 14:45:00 EST. Yeah, we're still work-shopping the name. Anyway, Activision sent a bunch over for the 360, and we thought we'd pass them along to you, our trusted friends. So here's the deal: We've got seven codes, and we've hidden them in other <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty">Call of Duty</a></em>-related posts from the past (just to make things interesting). If you find one and use it, let us know in the comments (and give us the number, if you don't mind). We've got seven to give away, so hopefully everyone will get a shot.<br /><br />So, what are you waiting for? Get clicking! We'll make the first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/the-great-call-of-duty-world-at-war-dlc-pack-2-code-hunt/">one easy</a>!<br /><br />[<strong>Update: </strong>OK gang, it looks like all of them were found. It's <strike>eight minutes</strike> footage of next month's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war-dlc/"><em>Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2</em></a>! Alright, alright, it's not the <em>entire</em> map pack, but it does feature the Russian trainyard themed, "Corrosion," as well as "Sub Pens," a map based in a submarine pen. <br /><br />Sure, we'd love to see video of the purported "hell hounds" coming to "Shi No Numa," the Nazi zombie infested part of the DLC, but wouldn't everyone? We're just going to have to wait until some more video hits the webs from <em>WaW</em> developer, Treyarch. For the whole schebang, hit the break and have a ball!<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> The YouTube video after the break has been replaced by a couple of GameSpy videos. Check out all their Map Pack 2 videos <a href="http://media.xbox360.gamespy.com/media/142/14222038/vids_1.html?RSSwhen2009-05-08_174200&amp;RSSid=981362">right here</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks, John H.!]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/watch-8-minutes-of-the-next-world-at-war-dlc-right-now/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch footage of the next World at War DLC ... right now!</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/watch-8-minutes-of-the-next-world-at-war-dlc-right-now/">Watch footage of the next World at War DLC ... right now!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 15:20:00 EST. Activision just sent word that the multiplayer map DLC for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Call-of-Duty-World-at-War/">Call of Duty: World at War</a></em> (otherwise known as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Map-Pack-1/">Map Pack 1</a>) has surpassed a combined worldwide download milestone of 2 million units across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Needless to say, Activision seems pleased ... and why wouldn't it be? Map Pack 1 already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/world-at-war-dlc-sets-first-week-sales-record-on-xbox-live/">broke Xbox Live sales records</a>, selling one million units in its first week of availability.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Treyarch/">Treyarch</a> studio head, Mark Lamia, took a moment to comment on the "milestone," thanking the loyal community of <em>World at War</em> players for supporting the game -- and presumably, for not being <em>completely</em> tired of World War II themed shooters. Lamia also reminds gamers the <em>World at War</em> team expects to deliver new DLC sometime <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/next-call-of-duty-world-at-war-map-pack-coming-in-june/">this June</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/world-at-war-dlc-reaches-2-million-downloads/">World at War DLC reaches 2 million downloads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 May 2009 16:45:00 EST. From Friday through the early morning hours of Monday, March 12, double XP will be enabled on all gaming platforms including PS3 and Xbox 360. Twice the experience points is an added incentive to get online over the weekend, though we doubt hardcore <em>World at War </em>gamers really need convincing. The map isn't exactly <em>new,</em> but could be especially satisfying for soldiers who prefer battling without the cover of night.<br /><br />The new "Makin Day" map is a remake of current <em>World at War </em>offering Makin, with a generous splash of the sun's daylight glow. The map is installed automatically with the PlayStation 3 version of the patch and Xbox 360 users can grab the free content <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf0003-0000-4000-8000-00004156081c">via the Xbox Live Marketplace</a>. Hugh Spencer is an awesome dad. Not only is he active in his son Evan's life, but he's a pretty funny guy. When Evan told him he wanted to play <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/world-at-war">Call of Duty: World at War</a></em><em>, </em>Hugh eyed the T-rating for the game and worried that the content might not be suitable for his son. So he thought of a compromise.<br /><br />Introducing the Geneva Convention to Evan, Hugh said he could play the game, but only if he and his team followed the rules set forth in the GC. What makes this so funny is that, in all honesty, the Geneva Convention has no place in this particular FPS. You're not taking prisoners in the game, and even if you could hear the opposing team's cries for mercy online, what could you really do? You can't round them up, place them in shelter, and feed them 3 meals a day. That game is called <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-sims">The Sims</a></em>. <br /><br />Also, as good an idea as this was on Hugh's part, we wonder how he planned (if at all) to enforce it. Is he going to sit there and watch little Evan play every single match? Also, do Nazi zombies have rights?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/02/22/dad-lets-son-play-call-duty-if-he-promises-not-violate-geneva-conventions">GamePolitics</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/24/father-knows-best-son-can-play-call-of-duty-by-geneva-conventi/">Father knows best: Son can play Call of Duty (by Geneva Convention rules)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Feb 2009 02:00:00 EST. As far as XBLA releases go, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-maw"><em>The Maw</em></a> and all its purpleness is number one, <em>Castle Crashers</em> number two and (interestingly enough) <em>Worms </em>makes an appearance at the third position.<br /><br />The full list of Xbox Live activity for retail, XBLA, original Xbox and Community Games is viewable after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/world-at-war-and-the-maw-sit-atop-xbox-live-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>World at War and The Maw sit atop Xbox Live charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/world-at-war-and-the-maw-sit-atop-xbox-live-charts/">World at War and The Maw sit atop Xbox Live charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Feb 2009 13:00:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/npd">NPD</a>, GfK Chart-Track and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/enterbrain">Enterbrain</a> have combined video game software sales lists for the respective regions they cover to declare <span style="font-style: italic;">Mario Kart Wii</span> as the top selling game of 2008. Games sales across the "world's three largest games markets" saw an 11% increase, totaling 409.9 million units last year.<br /><br />Top five selling games for US, UK and Japan combined:<br />
<ol>
    <li><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv"><em></em></a><em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart-wii">Mario Kart Wii</a></em> - 8.94 million<a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv"><em></em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv"><em></em></a><em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/wii-fit">Wii Fit</a></em> - 8.31 million</li>
    <li><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> - 7.29 million<em></em></li>
    <li><em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ssbb">Super Smash Bros. Brawl</a></em> - 6.32 million</li>
    <li><em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war">Call of Duty: World at War</a></em> - 5.89 million</li>
</ol>
The rankings are almost identical to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/edge-top-selling-games-in-north-america-and-europe-combined/">Edge's "guesstimate"</a> sales list released last week, which included all of Europe, but not Japan. Overall, the US and UK markets saw increases of 15% and 26%, respectively. The Japanese market saw a 13% <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/06/2008-japanese-game-retail-tallied-tumbled/">decline</a> in software sales, which Enterbrain explains has little to do with the current generation of consoles, but is due to the 46% software sales drop on the PS2. Check out the chart after the break for a regional dissection of the software ranks.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/02/top-5-selling-games-in-2008-across-global-markets/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Top 5 selling games in 2008 across global markets</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/02/top-5-selling-games-in-2008-across-global-markets/">Top 5 selling games in 2008 across global markets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Feb 2009 09:00:00 EST. War is hell ... unless you're getting twice the experience. This weekend, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Call-of-Duty-World-at-War/">Call of Duty: World at War</a></em> is once again rewarding players with double experience for all multiplayer modes. Not enough for you? <em>World at War</em> is also introducing two brand new game types into its playlist rotation: Team Tactical and Mercenary TDM. Team Tactical is a 4v4 playlist that pits two teams up against each other in random objective scenarios, while Mercenary TDM does not allow for parties in favor of random team match-ups.<br /> <br /> New playlists have gone live today for both Xbox 360 and PS3 players. <div align="left">New <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/01/20/live-activity-for-week-of-january-12th.aspx">Xbox Live activity</a> figures for the week of January 12th have just made their way online thanks to one Major Nelson and claiming the number one spot is Treyarch's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a>. That <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/world-at-war-zombie-weekend-is-go-go-go/">zombified weekend</a> must have helped. <em>Halo 3</em>, <em>CoD4</em>, <em>Gears 2</em> and <em>Left 4 Dead</em> round out the top five. As far as Xbox Live Arcade games go, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> sits on top, partly due to the fact that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/castle-crashers-king-pack-available-now/">new DLC</a> just released. Due to popular demand, <a href="http://www.callofduty.com/intel/182">Treyarch</a> is now opening up <em>Call of Duty: World at War's </em>Nazi zombie co-op playlist to everyone on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, nullifying the previous requirement of completing the single-player campaign. For the uninitiated, Nazi zombie co-op has you and up to four others fighting off endless waves of -- you guessed it -- nazi zombies. And before you ask, no, we never tire of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wolfenstein">nazis</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead">or</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5">zombie</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gears-of-war-2">massacres</a>.<br /><br />Treyarch is also giving out double the experience points this weekend. It started this afternoon at 1:00 PM ET and will stay in effect until an undisclosed time -- probably Monday morning, if we had to guess. If you're in desperate need for some double XP, we suggest you take off work / school now and head to your console of choice.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2009/01/16/world-at-war-zombie-weekend-is-go-go-go/">X3F</a>; thanks, mdouet!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/cod-world-at-war-unlocks-nazi-zombies-for-all-gives-double-xp/">CoD: World at War unlocks Nazi zombies for all, gives double XP this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 15:47:00 EST. <div align="left">Wouldn't you know, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> was the number one most played Xbox Live game for the week of January 5th. How ... special? Number five, you ask? It's <em>Left 4 Dead</em>.</div>

Still holding onto <em>Call of Duty 4</em> as your war-time shooter of choice? Amazon's video game deal of the day might change your opinion. The online retailer is offering <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/metareview-call-of-duty-world-at-war-360-ps3-pc/">World at War</a> </em>for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=xs_gb_A1Y5VIB1H2GF0O?ie=UTF8&amp;docId=1000208101&amp;pf_rd_p=441937901&amp;pf_rd_s=right-1&amp;pf_rd_t=701&amp;pf_rd_i=20&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_r=00FRNK6EZ1T3W8A00S4M">for $35</a> today, almost half off the usual price and a lot cheaper than last year's <em>Modern Warfare</em>, which is still sporting a $60 price tag on the site. Sorry, Wii and PC owners, your versions of the game still cost $50 and $47, respectively. The deal lasts until 3:00AM ET tonight or until supply runs out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/29/today-on-amazon-call-of-duty-world-at-war-360-ps3-for-35/">Today on Amazon: Call of Duty: World at War 360, PS3 for $35</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Dec 2008 10:47:00 EST. <div align="center"><a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/games/call-of-duty-world-at-war/xbox-360/game-features/chart-toppers-call-of-duty-heard-for-world-at-war/?biz=1"><img hspace="4" border="0" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/codwaw-cg-dec18-90879857363-001-bubble.jpg" alt="" /></a></div>
<br />Or the United States does, at least. Arguably due to a lack of minigames, GameDaily noted that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/call-of-duty-footage-of-war/"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> sold <em>miserably</em> on the Wii (and <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com">DS</a>). The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/november-npd-double-megaton/">latest NPD numbers</a> saw the Xbox 360 (1.41 million units) and PS3 (597,000) versions in second and sixth place respectively, but the Wii iteration was nowhere to be found -- something you guys also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/november-npd-double-megaton/#c16073125">picked up on</a>.<br /></div>
<br />In fact, the Wii game lagged embarrassingly far behind its high-definition cousins: according to GameDaily, the PS2, PC, DS and Wii editions sold around 200,000 units <em>combined</em>. This makes us genuinely fear for games like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/point-counterpoint-pros-and-conduits/"><em>The Conduit</em></a>. <em>Call of Duty</em> is <em>pretty much</em> the biggest name in the console shooter business, so if that can't shift copies on Wii, what chance a brand-new IP?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/call-of-duty-world-fails-at-buying-it/">Call of Duty: World Fails at Buying It</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Dec 2008 12:47:00 EST. <div align="left">We just received intel that there will be a week of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> double XP beginning December 5th, but that it's semi-exclusive. Only <em>World at War</em> collector's edition purchasers will have access to the XP fun. Those who registered their <em>World at War</em> CE copy (<a href="http://codwwcollector.callofduty.com/">register it here</a>) will have access to a special "Officer's Club" playlist that'll award twice the XP and (hopefully) twice the fun. Remember, the week of two-times XP begins December 5th and wraps at 11:59AM pacific on Friday, December 12th. At ease, soldier.</div>

Looks like the <em>Call of Duty</em> franchise still has plenty of World War II to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/activision-blizzard-ceo-kotick-vivendi-franchises-lacked-poten/">exploit</a> as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/world-at-war"><em>World at War</em></a> outsold <span style="font-style: italic;">Call of Duty 4</span>'s debut week in the UK two to one. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/new-call-of-duty-outsells-cod4-by-more-than-2-to-1">GI.biz</a> reports that <span style="font-style: italic;">CoD:WaW</span> stands atop the "All Formats" charts, but no actual sales numbers are given, merely chart position. The top ten can be found after the break.<br /><br />Interesting to note is that Activision Blizzard accounted for 25% of all game sales for the week ending Nov. 15, with the one-two punch of <span style="font-style: italic;">CoD:WaW</span> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/wrath-of-the-lich-king"><span style="font-style: italic;">World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King</span></a>, followed by several other top performers like the <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero</span> franchise. Not surprisingly,<span style="font-style: italic;"> Lich King</span> is apparently the fastest-selling PC title in UK. People needs their fix!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/call-of-duty-world-at-war-outsells-cod4s-debut-in-uk-2-1/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Call of Duty: World at War outsells CoD4's debut in UK 2:1</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/18/call-of-duty-world-at-war-outsells-cod4s-debut-in-uk-2-1/">Call of Duty: World at War outsells CoD4's debut in UK 2:1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 16:15:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> ships in North America <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/answer-your-call-of-duty-this-november/">tomorrow</a>, but if you want an early peek (and have the kind of job where you can get away with watching videos at work all day long), here's the first <em>thirty minutes</em>, starting with the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makin_Island_raid">Makin Island raid</a> (and continuing after the break).<br /><br />Be warned: as this is a <em>Call of Duty</em> game, and hence Just Like The Real Thing, it's full of naughty words from the beginning, not to mention the odd stomach-churning sight. It looks great, though, and is full of the spectacular set-pieces that we love the series for. I've been avoiding<em> Call of Duty: World At War</em>. Not because its developer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/treyarch/">Treyarch</a>, has yet to inspire me. Not because it's <em>another</em> World War II shooter. I've been avoiding <em>World At War</em> because the featured enemy is the Japanese Empire. Let me explain:<br /> <br />While not the first game to portray the Pacific-side of WWII, <em>World At War</em> is the most prominent. One could argue for <em>Medal of Honor's</em> pair of entries, but those came as the franchise was dwindling (not to mention, before and during Joystiq's infancy). <em>World At War</em> follows the overwhelming reception of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-4/"><em>Call of Duty 4</em></a> and benefits from a massive marketing campaign from its publisher, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/activision/">Activision</a>. In short, it's in my face and on my mind.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/opinion-why-i-cant-go-beyond-the-first-5-mins-of-call-of-duty/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Opinion: Why I can't go beyond the first 5 mins of Call of Duty: World At War</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/opinion-why-i-cant-go-beyond-the-first-5-mins-of-call-of-duty/">Opinion: Why I can't go beyond the first 5 mins of Call of Duty: World At War</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Nov 2008 15:59:00 EST. Looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Treyarch/">Treyarch</a> has taken a cue from Valve's upcoming <em>Left 4 Dead</em> and the world's love of zombie action. Developer Treyarch has revealed that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-World-at-War/">Call of Duty: World at War</a></em> will include a Nazi Zombie Mode, in the latest edition of <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php?ep=43&amp;ch=4&amp;sd=1">GameTrailers TV</a>. Once the single player campaign has been completed players will gain access to the mode which sends waves of Nazi Zombie adversaries in the players direction.<br /><br />The mode sports an economy system which allows players to purchase new weapons and rebuild barricades to slow down the zombie rush. How crazy does it get? According to Treyarch the team got to the 23rd wave before becoming overwhelmed by the zombie horde. Now that is a cool little extra.<br /><br />

The <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em> beta has been updated. On the <a href="http://www.callofduty.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=26&amp;t=29975 ">official forums</a>, Treyarch developer "JD_2020" has introduced "some Hardcore playlists," including a Search and Destroy playlist. More importantly, the level cap has been raised to 24, giving players access to new weapons, challenges and perks. Additionally, some (but not all) of the bug fixes should be in this patch, with more expected as the beta goes on.<br /><br />Kudos to Treyarch for granting new features to the beta while it goes on. Despite a few <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/joyswag-enlist-in-the-call-of-duty-world-at-war-beta/ ">noted caveats</a>, we're still enjoying the multiplayer. Speaking of which, we've got 5 beta codes left to give out this afternoon, so <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/16/joyswag-enlist-in-the-call-of-duty-world-at-war-beta/">enter here</a> if you still need one.<br /><br />[Thanks, phillyo2]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/call-of-duty-world-at-war-beta-updated-today/">Call of Duty: World at War beta updated today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 14:00:00 EST.
