Jones, whose previous work includes <em>Moon</em> and <em>Source Code</em>, is an award-winning English director and the son of music icon David Bowie. Joystiq has also obtained separate confirmation that Jones is indeed signed to direct <em>Warcraft</em>.<br /><br />Legendary Pictures <a href="http://wow.joystiq.com/2012/08/03/warcraft-movie-takes-on-charles-leavitt-for-scriptwriting/">tapped</a> scriptwriter Charles Leavitt back in August and has chosen to stick with his adaptation. Previously, Sam Raimi was up to direct but chose to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/18/sam-raimi-off-world-of-warcraft-film-in-light-of-oz-the-great-a/">opt out</a> instead for another film, <em>Oz: The Great and Powerful</em>. The plan is to start filming <em>Warcraft</em> this fall, with a theatrical release in 2015.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/30/warcraft-movie-adds-source-code-director-duncan-jones-to-its-par/">Warcraft movie to be helmed by Source Code director Duncan Jones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jan 2013 19:55:00 EST. Sam Raimi has apparently gone with Plan D, as in Disney's <em>Wizard of Oz</em> 3D prequel, reports <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2010/10/disneys-oz-pic-gets-sam-raimi-to-commit-rabbit-hole-scribe-to-rewrite/">Deadline.com</a>. In making his choice, Raimi seemingly puts off directing the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/world-of-warcraft,movie/"><em>World of Warcraft</em> movie</a>, to which he's been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/22/aicn-sam-raimi-set-to-direct-world-of-warcraft-movie/">officially attached</a> since last summer (he abandoned <em>"Spider-Man 4"</em> long ago).<br />
<br />
While Legendary Pictures, which owns the <em>WoW</em> movie rights, has yet to reveal its next move, we have to imagine the studio is now in hot pursuit of David Fincher. After all, the director has been <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-social-network">heavily applauded</a> for his adaptation of the "Facebook story" and would seem a likely candidate to depict the <em>dramatic</em> significance of a billion-dollar fantasy sustained by socialized grinding.<br />
<br />
Wait -- you mean it's supposed to be a live-action Warcraft <em>universe</em> movie? Like with orcs and elves and things? Yeah, we'd totally pick <em>Oz</em>, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/world-of-warcraft-movie-on-ice-as-raimi-commits-to-disney-oz/">Report: World of Warcraft movie on ice, as Raimi commits to Disney's 'Oz' prequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Oct 2010 12:30:00 EST. Blizzard Entertainment took the stage here at <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/comic-con-2010">Comic-Con</a> in San Diego to talk about <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>-inspired merchandise, and when the topic of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/22/aicn-sam-raimi-set-to-direct-world-of-warcraft-movie/">the <em>WoW</em> movie</a> came up during the Q&amp;A, Vice President of Creative Development Chris Metzen confirmed that though the process has slowed recently, the movie is still happening. Director Sam Raimi is still "very, very passionate" about getting the movie made, but Metzen said that a treatment is still being hammered out. If that gets approved, he said, then "hopefully it'll start moving very quickly, very soon."<br />
<br />
Metzen and the rest of the panelists also talked about the next lore-based novel to be released -- it's called <em>The Shattering</em>, and will set up a lot of the events leading up to the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm"><em>Cataclysm</em></a> expansion. Metzen cautioned the game's fans that there are "dark times ahead" for Azeroth with the return of Deathwing and quakes destroying large parts of the game world. "It's going to get rough out there for a while," he admitted. "But there's a plan. The great heroes always rise to the top."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/22/blizzard-world-of-warcraft-movie-has-slowed-but-still-happenin/">Blizzard: World of Warcraft movie has slowed, but still happening</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Jul 2010 21:05:00 EST. We've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/mmo-film-second-skin-gets-trailer/">teased</a> you with <a href="http://www.secondskinfilm.com/"><em>Second Skin</em></a> before, but now you can watch the whole thing online for free. Word of warning: If you're a <em>World of Warcraf</em>t player, or belong to any other obsessive MMO, the film doesn't paint a very flattering picture. But having said that, it does treat the subject matter with some respect by showing all facets: the good, the bad, <em>and</em> the ugly. <br /><br />Juan Carlos Pi&ntilde;eiro Escoriaza and Victor Pi&ntilde;eiro have put together a surprisingly good documentary that pulls back the cover on the other side of the screen. Until now, you couldn't see this work outside the film festival circuit, but thanks to <a href="http://www.hulu.com/second-skin">Hulu</a>, you can watch the entire movie after the break. Grab your popcorn and head on in!<br /><br />Additionally, <em>Second Skin</em> will be released on <a href="http://www.secondskinfilm.com/store">DVD</a> on August 25.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/gaming-doc-second-skin-now-available-for-free-online-neilm.php">Film School Rejects</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/08/watch-gaming-doc-second-skin-now-free/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch gaming doc 'Second Skin' now, free</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/08/watch-gaming-doc-second-skin-now-free/">Watch gaming doc 'Second Skin' now, free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Aug 2009 00:30:00 EST. <strong>Update: </strong>Blizzard just confirmed the story with <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&amp;newsId=20090721006479&amp;newsLang=en">a swift press release</a>! Raimi's set to direct, and Charles Roven (producer of <em>The Dark Knight</em>) is set to produce. According to the presser, "the film will fall under Legendary Pictures' co-production and co-financing deal with Warner Bros." We certainly hope they've got deep pockets -- we imagine a <em>World of Warcraft</em> movie won't end up being a low-budget project. Original post is below.<br />
<br />
We know our stuff about video game news, but when it comes to film scoops, we usually bow to the expertise of Ain't It Cool News' Harry Knowles. Imagine our delight when we read <a href="http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41761">a recent report</a> from the heavily bearded entertainment reporter claiming that <em>Evil Dead</em> and <em>Spider-Man</em> creator <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Raimi">Sam Raimi</a> would helm a film adaptation of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/world-of-warcraft"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a>. According to Knowles, confirmation of this story will be hitting Hollywood trade publications later this week or next.<br />
<br />
Where is this magical, magical news coming from? We have no idea -- but Knowles seems fairly certain. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sdcc-2009">Comic-Con</a> just around the corner, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blizzcon-2009">Blizzcon</a> just around the corner that's behind that first corner, we're sure to hear more details soon -- <em>if</em> Knowles' report is accurate.<br />
