We all miss Freddy Mercury, but he lives on in each and every drunken karaoke performance the world over. Now fans can trade in their public embarrassment and enjoy this activity in the comfort of their own homes, with the release of the new Queen track pack in Guitar Hero: World Tour, available for download across all platforms. The pack features the songs, "C-lebrity," "Fat Bottomed Girls," and "We are the Champions," and is priced at 440 on Xbox Live (each track will set you back 160 individually) and $5.49 on PSN. Fret not, Wii owners, for this DLC is also available to you, with each track setting you back 200 Wii Points.

The new songs don't stop there, as a new recording of the classic James Bond theme song is also available on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii, for 160, $1.99, or 200 Wii Points, respectively. Head past the break to sample each of these tracks.

The new song, along with the band's "Audience of One" and "Ready to Fall" tracks, will be released on both XBLM and PSN on March 12 as the Rise Against Track Pack (440 / $5.49). Each track will also be available as an individual download for 160 / $2.

We're told the band's lead singer, Tim McIlrath, will log onto Xbox Live on March 14 (Gamertag: GHRiseAgainst1) to participate in a Br-br-br-brush "Game with Fame" session, allowing would-be wailers to participate in a karaoke-style showdown with the singer. Mind the coffee table!

Musical goodness from Queen, Jimi Hendrix and a handful of European bands will be bicycle racing to the XBLM and PSN this month, including three songs from Vanilla Sky, Rasmus and Les Rita Mitsouko that'll be available this Thursday.

A complete listing of all the upcoming World Tour DLC can be viewed after the break, but be warned that some may find the release of both Queen and Hendrix songs in one month to be too overwhelming. For those music enthusiasts, we recommend taking a seat before continuing.

According to VG247, Activision has no plans to add Lips wireless microphone support to Guitar Hero World Tour. Now, we could understand their unwillingness to support the Lips mics if they were poorly constructed or if it'd be some overwhelming task to take on. But the one thing (and possibly only thing) Lips has going for it are stellar peripherals and we don't believe releasing a game patch would be all that time consuming.

Shame on you World Tour. At least Rock Band recognizes the value of colorfully lit mics.

In 2008, Guitar Hero World Tour sold a lot of copies to anxious would-be rockers. Its competition, Rock Band 2, also sold a lot of copies, but, in the end, was not enough to best Activision's title. So, you want exact figures? Well, World Tour unloaded 3.4 million copies on consumers, across all platforms, whereas Rock Band 2 only sold 1.7 million, across all platforms, according to the NPD. Interesting stuff.

What we'd like to know, however, is how World Tour stacks up against Rock Band when including the first game into the mix. Has the Rock Band franchise sold more than 3.4 million units? Guess we'll have to wait and see on that one. Considering how well Rock Band did on Wii and other platforms, it would be very interesting to see them stacked side-by-side.

Activision just announced that Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen will be making his video game debut on Guitar Hero World Tour later this month. Tuesday, January 27th to be exact. The Springsteen DLC will be released as a FREE download through February 4th and include the tracks "Born to Run" and "My Lucky Day" off his latest album Working on a Dream. If you wait until after February 4th to download the Springstreen tracks, expect to pay 320 MS points.

Free content is free content and we aren't complaining, but would we be in the minority to have asked for the song "The Wrestler" as part of the free DLC giveaway? Heck, we'd even pay the $2 going rate for that track.

Last week, we mentioned a new Guitar Hero World Tour holiday offer where, with purchase of a World Tour bundle before December 31st, you can score five free downloadable tracks. We're pleased to inform you that the offer is now available and your free DLC awaits.

To participate in the offer, simply make your way to World Tour's free content download redemption page and enter both your World Tour serial number and owner ID from your manual. Then, like magic, you'll receive your free tracks. And seeing that we don't have a World Tour bundle handy, we weren't able to proceed through with the redemption process. So, we aren't entirely sure how you select the five DLC tracks or if it's a pre-selected bundle. It's like blazing new trails.

According to the official Guitar Hero website, those who purchase the World Tour bundle by December's end will be treated to five downloadable tracks. Exactly which tracks, we aren't sure. The promotion isn't yet live, but if you already own or are purchasing the World Tour bundle, keep this page bookmarked for future promo details. Can't complain about free music, right?

As part of the Guitar Her World Tour's plan for December DLC world domination, new Nirvana and European music has make its way to the Xbox Live Marketplace. In total, there are six new tracks available a la cart for 160 Microsoft points or as Nirvana or European three packs for 440 points. To be honest, we've never heard of the European bands (sorry, we're not that musically hip), but are well aware of the three Nirvana songs. A few we'd highly recommend. Update: RMC was kind enough to shoot us an email to notify that MTV has since updated their story as their figures were inaccurate. Turns out, the Xbox 360 version of the game won out. Bummer.

Wii owners love their Guitar Hero, as it's revealed that Guitar Hero: World Tour, the latest and greatest in the franchise, sold more on Wii than any other system. With the recent NPD numbers, MTV Multiplayer also secured exact sales figures for Activision's latest title. Across all platforms, Guitar Hero: World Tour sold 534,000 copies. Of those, 183,000 were for the Wii.

There's new Guitar Hero World Tour downloadable content out today and, just as was promised months ago, it's a three pack of Jimi Hendrix tracks. Available for the bundled price of 440 Microsoft points, the Hendrix Track Pack DLC includes "Fire" (live from Woodstock version), "If 6 was 9" and "Little Wing". Note too that this DLC will NOT work with Guitar Hero III or any other edition of GH other than World Tour. With that in mind, enjoy your Hendrix.

We hope you already managed to download your favorite Nintendo songs from the Guitar Hero: World Tour music sharing service, as MTV reports that they are being removed. Multiplayer guesses (as do we) that recreations of popular Nintendo themes from games like Zelda and Super Mario Bros are being removed for copyright violation. Of course, there are still plenty of other game tunes out there, including songs from Doom, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Bubble Bobble (does that one just loop forever?). You can even still download Portal's now famous "Still Alive," though multiplayer notes that it suffers from the lack of lyrics. Of course, you can always get your "Still Alive" fix on Rock Band, so it's all good.

If you've already downloaded any of these songs, fear not: Activision can't remove them from your hard drive. Just make sure you think about it before deleting one. Also, you should check out this Brinstar track from Metroid. It's sweet. That is all.

If you were thinking of hunting down a very expensive gift for that special someone this holiday season, the Guitar Hero: World Tour full band kit might not be the best option. During a conference call yesterday, Activision CEO Robert Kotick commented that the full kit has been "virtually sold out across the channel." He also admitted that his company might not be able to meet demand this holiday season.

So, if you're a mom that had exceptional children throughout this year, you might want to phone Santa and have him snatch one up as soon as possible. There's a good chance you won't see them on store shelves for a little while.

Activision has revealed the next stage in its plan to take over the world with plastic instruments: selling Guitar Hero: World Tour to real musicians. From November 14th, World Tour will start appearing in a number of musical instrument outlets.

Now that we think about it, this could be a winner for everybody concerned, really. Guitar Hero players who want to progress to the real thing might have their head turned, musical instrument stores get a small slice of Activision's money-filled pie, and seeing fake instruments next to the real thing should further irritate the anti-fun types who sniffily ask why people "can't just learn a real instrument" whenever the subject of music games is raised. And hurray for that.

When we were flipping around the channels and caught our first glimpse at the above Guitar Hero: World Tour commercial, we cringed at just how bad the whole thing was. With Kobe's terrible lip-syncing and A-Rod's inability to look like he has any rhythm, the whole thing came off as very forced to us. Kobe has probably never even heard of Bob Seger.

Update: According to the official World Tour forum post, a Neversoft spokesperson confirmed that the drum tuning kit will be Windows PC downloadable software (sorry Mac fanboys) that'll allow you to calibrate your drums.

After numerous angry reports made their way online in regards to Guitar Hero World Tour's peripherals not working correctly, Activision has fessed up, acknowledging that some of World Tour's drum kits are flawed.

"We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues" starts the Activision statement claiming that it's an "isolated manufacturing issue" that occurred in the early manufacturing stages of production. Acti promises to further look into the borked drum kit problem and has plans to release a drum tuning kit that should optimize the drums and fix the sensitivity issues. For those of you who demand drum kit answers or some sort of alternative fix, you can contact Acti's online support or give them a call (U.S.) at 310-255-2050. A lot of Wii owners have been anxiously awaiting Guitar Hero: World Tour, as the title is doing well on the Wii. According to UBS analyst Ben Schachter, the full band kit bundle is selling on the Wii and Xbox 360, as he states the bundles were "near sell-outs." Also, Schachter says the game on its own isn't really selling. Where does this data come from? Apparently, UBS checked with over 20 retail chains like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and GameStop, gathering first day sales data to come to its conclusions. Of course, we won't have the full data for North American sales until October's NPD figures release.

Despite promises to the contrary, the PlayStation 3 Guitar Hero: World Tour drum set doesn't seem to be working with Rock Band 1 or 2. Many users on the RB forums have noticed that the game is recognizing the wireless set as a microphone, and unfortunately, the mic isn't being recognized as a beat box receptor.

A Harmonix developer has chimed in to say, "We are definitely looking into this. We'll keep you posted on updates as soon as more info is available." Sony had previously said there would be universal instrument-rhythm game compatibility. The Xbox 360 drum sets seem to work with each respective game. We're working to independently confirm compatibility as we fill in the blanks to our Instrument Compatibility Matrix.

After announcing their launch week plans for Guitar Hero World Tour DLC, Activision just revealed that Oasis' Dig Out Your Soul album DLC will be offered in its entirity or as individual tracks (eleven total) in 2009.

Though, you won't have to wait until 2009 to get your World Tour Oasis fix, because on Thursday, November 6th an Oasis Track Pack will be available for purchase off the XBLM. This three song pack will include tracks from the Dig Out Your Soul album including "Bag it Up", "Waiting for the Rapture" and "The Shock of the Lightning." Yah dig?

Activision just sent word that a guitar case full of downloadable music content will be available for purchase during launch week of Guitar Hero World Tour.

At launch, Acti will be releasing a Classic Rock Track Pack comprised of music from Boston, Foreigner and Rick Springfield as well as well two free guitar duel downloads from Ted Nugent and Zakk Wylde. Also at launch, a track from Blind Melon will be released and R.E.M. will make available a three pack of DLC from their latest album Accelerate. Finally, we learn that the GHIII Metallica Death Magnetic DLC will import directly into World Tour.

Activision has revealed the pricing structure of the upcoming incarnation of their rhythm game. Guitar Hero: World Tour will come in several different flavors, so listen up:
  • $189.99 for the full Band Kit
  • $99.99 for the Guitar Kit (which includes the game and guitar)
  • $59.99 for the game by itself.
  • Finally, there is a $239.99 Deluxe Band Bundle (as shown above), which includes everything in the full Band Kit plus the following: a t-shirt (Male XL only), battery charger, key chain and cloth guitar case.
Though the Band Kit seems to be priced competitively, the Deluxe Band Bundle seems rather pricey -- are those extras worth an extra 50 clams to you?

Here's an interesting idea. Activision head Mike Griffith confirmed with Shacknews that they've been looking at various ways to release musical downloadable content for Guitar Hero World Tour, including a subscription service. According to Griffith, Acti has been kicking around the idea of an "annual pass subscription where players can subscribe and get a certain number of songs downloadable each month." Kinda sounds Zune'ish to us.

All said, we expect that a subscription service would please the renter crowd and doesn't sound like that bad of an idea. What say you?

Just as was rumored months ago, Ted "The Nuge" Nugent will be gracing the setlist of Guitar Hero: World Tour and be featured as an in-game likeness.

Activision just announced that rocker, hunter and gun lover Ted Nugent will be featured in World Tour as a guitar battle, using both his likeness and his eight minute track "Stranglehold". Here at Fanboy Towers, we've already discussed in length the topic of Ted Nugent in World Tour and decided that his inclusion in the game would not be acceptable UNLESS he strums on a custom gun shaped guitar that shoots flames from its barrel. We'd also be fine with an unlockable version.

The first full downloadable album for Guitar Hero III is finally here; Metallica's latest album, Death Magnetic, will debut on GH III on September 12th, the same day it goes on sale worldwide. Exclusive to Guitar Hero will be two versions of the song Suicide & Redemption featuring extended solos by James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. The album will also be foward compatible -- all the songs will work in Guitar Hero: World Tour and presumably all the new instruments when it is released in October.

Along with Jimi Hendrix and Ozzy (and other notable classic rockers), Sting will have his likeness featured in the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour. The original story over at USAToday.com has since been pulled (all we've got is this image to go on), so we can't find exact details as to what capacity he'll be featured (Will he be playing The Police songs? His own tracks?), but the screen above tells us the man will be rocking the bass.

Guitar Hero: World Tour is going to be a big game. Not only because of all of the features included in the title, but also because it's making some of the most legendary of rockers come out of the woodwork to remaster their songs for the game. MC5's Wayne Kramer is one of these figures, as he went into the studio to re-record his band's hit song "Kick Out the Jams" just for this game. Along with Wayne, friends Jerry Cantrell of Alice and Chains and Gilby Clark formerly of Guns 'N' Roses joined in on the track. Also, it turns out that when The Sex Pistols re-recorded a track for Guitar Hero 3, they also did another track, "Pretty Vacant," which will be featured in the upcoming game. As if that wasn't enough, Motorhead also hit the studio and redid their song "Overkill."

On top of that, four new tracks were also confirmed for the game, albeit from more modern artists. These tracks are none other than:
  • The Living End -- "Prisoner of Society"
  • Los Lobos -- "La Bamba"

Activision has announced a whole slew of brands will be supporting the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour, from amps right on down to guitar strings. It's nothing new to us, considering the company did the same thing for previous Guitar Hero games, but the list for World Tour is kind of massive. It goes:

  • EMG Pickups
  • Ernie Ball
  • Evans Drumheads
  • Guitar Center
  • Krank Amplification
  • Mackie
  • Marshall
  • Orange County Drum & Percussion
  • Pork Pie Percussion

  • Vox
  • Zildjian drumsticks
Of course, with Rock Band tapping Fender for their guitar needs, and Gibson suing everyone on the planet, we wonder why Activision hasn't found another suitable Guitar manufacturer to feature in their game. May we suggest Ibanez? They make some nice guitars!

There's an interesting tidbit over at IGN. At the bottom of one of their articles on the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero: World Tour, you'll notice a little blurb with an asterisk. It reads: "*Online gameplay is only available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Wii and may require an additional subscription." Subscription?

Part of us thinks this ties into the whole music-sharing thing that was revealed during GC 2008. Remember, there Activision commented on paying for the ability to upload more of your own custom tracks. So, is this something to do with that? Or, are Wii owners going to need to pay a bit extra? We're thinking it'll have something to do with the music creation, but until we hear definitive word, this one's going to be left open for debate.

To say that Guitar Hero: World Tour has a lot of content is now an understatement. The game is so ridiculously full of goodies, fans are likely going to explogasm when they watch the video above. It goes into incredible detail, showing off the music creation fun you can have in Activision's latest installment in its popular franchise. Whether you're mixing drum loops for your tracks or turning your guitar into a keyboard (could this confirm a keyboard peripheral is inbound?), it looks like you won't be bored with Guitar Hero: World Tour anytime soon after its release.


There's been a lot of Guitar Hero news lately. Like the confirmation that Miis will be included in the Wii game (as well as an explanation of how they'll be incorporated). Also, don't forget to check out which tracks have been confirmed for the game so far!
