For those music enthusiasts, we recommend taking a seat before continuing.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/world-tour-adds-queen-hendrix-and-european-dlc-in-march/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>World Tour adds Queen, Hendrix and European DLC in March</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/world-tour-adds-queen-hendrix-and-european-dlc-in-march/">World Tour adds Queen, Hendrix and European DLC in March</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 12:29:00 EST. Now, we could understand their unwillingness to support the <em>Lips </em>mics if they were poorly constructed or if it'd be some overwhelming task to take on. But the one thing (and possibly only thing) <em>Lips </em>has going for it are stellar peripherals and we don't believe releasing a game patch would be all that time consuming.<br /><br />Shame on you <em>World Tour</em>. At least <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/05/rock-band-2-puckers-up-for-lips-mic-patch/"><em>Rock Band</em> recognizes the value</a> of colorfully lit mics.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/guitar-hero-world-tour-wont-receive-lips-mic-support/">Guitar Hero World Tour won't receive Lips mic support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Feb 2009 13:30:00 EST. In 2008, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour">Guitar Hero World Tour</a> </em>sold a lot of copies to anxious would-be rockers. Its competition, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2"><em>Rock Band 2</em></a>, also sold a lot of copies, but, in the end, was not enough to best Activision's title. So, you want exact figures? Well, <em>World Tour</em> unloaded 3.4 million copies on consumers, across all platforms, whereas <em>Rock Band 2</em> only sold 1.7 million, across all platforms, according to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">NPD</a>. Interesting stuff.<br /><br />What we'd like to know, however, is how <em>World Tour</em> stacks up against <em>Rock Band</em> when including the first game into the mix. Has the <em>Rock Band </em>franchise sold more than 3.4 million units? Guess we'll have to wait and see on that one. Considering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/rock-band-wii-sold-more-than-any-other-version-rb2-not-selling/">how well <em>Rock Band </em>did on Wi</a>i and other platforms, it would be very interesting to see them stacked side-by-side.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/2008-showed-world-tour-defeat-rock-band-2-in-sales/">2008 showed World Tour defeat Rock Band 2 in sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 13:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Activision just announced that Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen will be making his video game debut on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a> later this month. Tuesday, January 27th to be exact. The Springsteen DLC will be released as a FREE download through February 4th and include the tracks "Born to Run" and "My Lucky Day" off his latest album <em>Working on a Dream</em>. If you wait until after February 4th to download the Springstreen tracks, expect to pay 320 MS points.<br /></div>

<br />Free content is free content and we aren't complaining, but would we be in the minority to have asked for the song <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wrestler_(2008_film)#Music">"The Wrestler"</a> as part of the free DLC giveaway? Heck, we'd even pay the $2 going rate for that track.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/the-boss-springsteen-is-coming-to-world-tour/">'The Boss' Springsteen is coming to World Tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 14:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Last week, we mentioned a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a> holiday offer where, with purchase of a <em>World Tour</em> bundle before December 31st, you can score <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/acti-offering-free-dlc-with-world-tour-bundle/">five free downloadable tracks</a>. We're pleased to inform you that the offer is <a href="http://freemusic.guitarhero.com/">now available</a> and your free DLC awaits.<br /></div>
</div>
<br />To participate in the offer, simply make your way to <em>World Tour</em>'s free content download <a href="http://freemusic.guitarhero.com/redeem/">redemption page</a> and enter both your <em>World Tour </em>serial number and owner ID from your manual. Then, like magic, you'll receive your free tracks. And seeing that we don't have a <em>World Tour </em>bundle handy, we weren't able to proceed through with the redemption process. So, we aren't entirely sure how you select the five DLC tracks or if it's a pre-selected bundle. It's like blazing new trails.<br /><br />[Thanks, Adam O.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/world-tour-free-dlc-offer-is-alive-its-really-alive/">World Tour free DLC offer is alive, it's really alive!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Dec 2008 13:45:00 EST. <div align="left">From now through December 31st, Activision is <strike>bribing</strike> enticing those in the market for a musical game this holiday by offering up <a href="http://freemusic.guitarhero.com/">free downloadable content</a> with purchase of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a>.<br /></div>
</div>
<br />According to the official <em>Guitar Hero</em> website, those who purchase the <em>World Tour</em> bundle by December's end will be treated to five downloadable tracks. Exactly which tracks, we aren't sure. The promotion isn't yet live, but if you already own or are purchasing the <em>World Tour</em> bundle, keep <a href="http://freemusic.guitarhero.com/">this page</a> bookmarked for future promo details. Update: RMC was kind enough to shoot us an email to notify that <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/11/14/guitar-hero-wii-sales/">MTV has since updated their story</a> as their figures were inaccurate. Turns out, the Xbox 360 version of the game won out. Bummer. <br /><br />Wii owners love their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/guitar-hero-winning-in-2008/"><em>Guitar Hero</em></a>, as it's revealed that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/guitar-hero-world-tour-band-kit-might-be-hard-to-find-this-holid/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>, the latest and greatest in the franchise, sold more on Wii than any other system. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">the recent NPD numbers</a>, MTV Multiplayer also secured exact sales figures for Activision's latest title. Across all platforms, <em>Guitar Hero: World Tour </em>sold 534,000 copies. Of those, 183,000 were for the Wii. <br /><br />We know a lot of you were excited for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>World Tour</em></a> up until release. Did you pick it up? Enjoy it, or found it isn't all it was cracked up to be?<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=63005">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/wii-most-popular-platform-for-guitar-hero-world-tour/">Wii most popular platform for Guitar Hero: World Tour [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 17:09:00 EST. Multiplayer guesses (as do we) that recreations of popular Nintendo <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BEn5OkBh_U">themes from games like <em>Zelda</em></a> and <em>Super Mario Bros</em> are being removed for copyright violation. Of course, there are still plenty of <em>other</em> game tunes out there, including songs from <em>Doom</em>, <em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em>, and <em>Bubble Bobble</em> (does that one just loop forever?). You can even still download <em>Portal</em>'s now famous "Still Alive," though multiplayer notes that it suffers from the lack of lyrics. Of course, you can always get your "Still Alive" fix on <em>Rock Band</em>, so it's all good.<br /><br />If you've already downloaded any of these songs, fear not: Activision can't remove them from your hard drive. Just make sure you think about it before deleting one. Also, you should check out this <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ba-NVasmuU">Brinstar track</a> from <em>Metroid</em>. It's sweet. That is all.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/07/nintendo-songs-removed-from-gh-world-tour-store/">Nintendo songs removed from GH: World Tour store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Nov 2008 18:15:00 EST. If you were thinking of hunting down a <em>very expensive</em> gift for that special someone this holiday season, the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/guitar-hero-winning-in-2008/">Guitar Hero: World Tour</a> </em>full band kit might not be the best option. During a conference call yesterday, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/activision">Activision</a> CEO Robert Kotick commented that the full kit has been "virtually sold out across the channel." He also admitted that his company might not be able to meet demand this holiday season.<br /><br />So, if you're a mom that had <em>exceptional</em> children throughout this year, you might want to phone Santa and have him snatch one up as soon as possible. There's a good chance you won't see them on store shelves for a little while.<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/guitar-hero-world-tour-bundle-virtually-sold-out-holiday-dema/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/guitar-hero-world-tour-band-kit-might-be-hard-to-find-this-holid/">Guitar Hero World Tour band kit might be hard to find this holiday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Nov 2008 20:42:00 EST. <br />Activision has revealed the next stage in its plan to take over the world with plastic instruments: selling <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/activision-brings-out-the-celebs-for-world-tour-advertising/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a> to real musicians. From November 14th, <em>World Tour</em> will start appearing in a number of musical instrument outlets.<br /><br />Now that we think about it, this could be a winner for everybody concerned, really. <em>Guitar Hero</em> players who want to progress to the real thing might have their head turned, musical instrument stores get a small slice of Activision's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/guitar-hero-world-tour-a-hit-on-wii/">money-filled pie</a>, and seeing fake instruments next to the real thing should further irritate the anti-fun types who sniffily ask why people "can't just learn a real instrument" whenever the subject of music games is raised. And hurray for that.<br /><br />
<br />[Via <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/32233/Guitar-Hero-targeting-musical-instrument-retail">MCV</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/05/activision-targeting-real-musicians-with-fake-instruments/">Activision targeting real musicians with fake instruments</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 05 Nov 2008 13:36:00 EST. Have you been plugging away at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/guitar-hero-world-tour-a-hit-on-wii/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>, only to still be lacking those last few songs to complete your set list? Are you the type of person that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/deepnote-guitar-hero-robot-will-rock-your-face-off/">enjoys cutting corners</a> and finds diligence to be nothing more than a nine-lettered word? Well, we've got something for you: the code to unlock every song in <em>World Tour</em>.<br /><br />We're not going to leave it on the front page for everyone to see, however. We've tucked the code past the break, away from those of you who want to earn your songs and not hit a specific button sequence in order to unlock them. Enjoy.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/hey-cheaters-this-is-how-you-unlock-every-song-in-guitar-hero/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hey, cheaters, this is how you unlock every song in Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/hey-cheaters-this-is-how-you-unlock-every-song-in-guitar-hero/">Hey, cheaters, this is how you unlock every song in Guitar Hero: World Tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 13:36:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;"><strong>Update:</strong> According to the official <a href="http://community.guitarhero.com/news_posts/74"><em>World Tour </em>forum post</a>, a Neversoft spokesperson confirmed that the drum tuning kit will be Windows PC downloadable software (sorry Mac fanboys) that'll allow you to calibrate your drums.<br /><br />After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/26/report-some-guitar-hero-world-tour-peripherals-not-functioning/">numerous angry reports</a> made their way online in regards to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour">Guitar Hero World Tour</a>'</em>s peripherals not working correctly, Activision <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55601">has fessed up</a>, acknowledging that some of <em>World Tour</em>'s drum kits are flawed.<br /></div>
</div>
<br />"We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues" starts the Activision statement claiming that it's an "isolated manufacturing issue" that occurred in the early manufacturing stages of production. Acti promises to further look into the borked drum kit problem and has plans to release a drum tuning kit that should optimize the drums and fix the sensitivity issues. For those of you who demand drum kit answers or some sort of alternative fix, you can contact Acti's <a href="http://www.activision.com/support">online support</a> or give them a call (U.S.) at 310-255-2050. Complete (apologetic) Activision statement after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/activision-admits-world-tours-drums-are-faulty/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Activision admits World Tour's drums are faulty [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/activision-admits-world-tours-drums-are-faulty/">Activision admits World Tour's drums are faulty [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Oct 2008 13:15:00 EST. A lot of Wii owners have been anxiously awaiting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>, as the title is doing well on the Wii. According to UBS analyst Ben Schachter, the full band kit bundle is selling on the Wii and Xbox 360, as he states the bundles were "near sell-outs." Also, Schachter says the game on its own isn't really selling. Where does this data come from? Apparently, UBS checked with over 20 retail chains like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/best-buy">Best Buy</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/walmart">Wal-Mart</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop">GameStop</a>, gathering first day sales data to come to its conclusions. Of course, we won't have the full data for North American sales until October's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">NPD</a> figures release.<br /><br />So, did you pick up the game? Full band kit bundle or just the guitar bundle? Let us know!<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/guitar-hero-world-tour-a-hit-on-wii/">Guitar Hero: World Tour a hit on Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 18:09:00 EST. Despite promises to the contrary, the PlayStation 3 <em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em> drum set doesn't seem to be working with <em>Rock Band 1</em> or <em>2</em>. Many users on the <em>RB</em> forums have noticed that the game is recognizing the wireless set as a microphone, and unfortunately, the mic isn't being recognized as a beat box receptor. <br /><br />A Harmonix developer has <a href="http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94675&amp;page=4 ">chimed in</a> to say, "We are definitely looking into this. We'll keep you posted on updates as soon as more info is available." Sony had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/18/scea-universal-compatibility-for-ps3-rock-band-2-gh-world-to/">previously said</a> there would be universal instrument-rhythm game compatibility. The Xbox 360 drum sets seem to work with each respective game. We're working to independently confirm compatibility as we fill in the blanks to our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/instrument-compatibility-matrix">Instrument Compatibility Matrix</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/guitar-hero-world-tour-drums-not-recognized-by-ps3-rock-band-2/">Guitar Hero: World Tour drums not recognized by PS3 Rock Band 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 14:25:00 EST. After announcing their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/guitar-hero-world-tour-dlc-releases-launch-week/">launch week plans</a> for <em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em> DLC, Activision just revealed that Oasis' <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dig_Out_Your_Soul"><em>Dig Out Your Soul</em></a> album DLC will be offered in its entirity or as individual tracks (eleven total) in 2009.<br /><br />Though, you won't have to wait until 2009 to get your <em>World Tour</em> Oasis fix, because on Thursday, November 6th an Oasis Track Pack will be available for purchase off the XBLM. This three song pack will include tracks from the <em>Dig Out Your Soul </em>album including "Bag it Up", "Waiting for the Rapture" and "The Shock of the Lightning." Activision has revealed the pricing structure of the upcoming incarnation of their rhythm game. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a> will come in several different flavors, so listen up:<br />
<ul>
    <li>$189.99 for the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ABN82K?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=psfa-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B001ABN82K">full Band Kit</a> </li>
    <li>$99.99 for the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ABN834?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=psfa-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B001ABN834">Guitar Kit</a> (which includes the game and guitar) </li>
    <li>$59.99 for the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ABK1LQ?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=psfa-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B001ABK1LQ">game by itself</a>. </li>
    <li>Finally, there is a <a href="http://www.redoctane.com/Guitar-Hero/PLAYSTATION-3/Guitar-Hero-World-Tour-Deluxe-Band-Bundle-GameMicGuitarDrum-PS3">$239.99 Deluxe Band Bundle</a> (as shown above), which includes everything in the full Band Kit plus the following: a t-shirt (Male XL only), battery charger, key chain and cloth guitar case. </li>
</ul>
Though the Band Kit seems to be priced competitively, the Deluxe Band Bundle seems rather pricey -- are those extras worth an extra 50 clams to you? <br />

Activision head Mike Griffith confirmed with <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/54774">Shacknews </a>that they've been looking at various ways to release musical downloadable content for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero World Tour</em></a>, including a subscription service. According to Griffith, Acti has been kicking around the idea of an "annual pass subscription where players can subscribe and get a certain number of songs downloadable each month." Kinda sounds <a href="http://www.zune.net/en-us/products/zunepass/default.htm">Zune'ish</a> to us.<br /><br />All said, we expect that a subscription service would please the renter crowd and doesn't sound like that bad of an idea. What say you?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/activision-considering-subscription-model-for-guitar-hero-dlc/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/acti-ponders-gh-world-tour-dlc-subscriptions/">Acti ponders GH World Tour DLC subscriptions </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Sep 2008 17:45:00 EST. The first full downloadable album for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-iii"><em>Guitar Hero III</em></a> is finally here; Metallica's latest album, <em>Death Magnetic</em>, will debut on <em>GH III</em> on September 12th, the same day it goes on sale worldwide. Exclusive to <em>Guitar Hero</em> will be two versions of the song <em>Suicide &amp; Redemption</em> featuring extended solos by James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. The album will also be foward compatible -- all the songs will work in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a> and presumably all the new instruments when it is released in October.<br /><br />Look for the album this Friday, September 12th on the PS Store for $17.99. Along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/jimi-hendrix-songs-character-included-in-guitar-hero-world-tou/">Jimi Hendrix</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/ozzy-to-rock-guitar-hero-world-tour/">Ozzy</a> (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/older-artists-re-record-classics-for-world-tour-four-new-tracks/">other notable classic rockers</a>), Sting will have his likeness featured in the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>. The original story over at USAToday.com has since been pulled (all we've got is <a href="http://search.usatoday.com/search/search.aspx?fr=0&amp;qt=img3,spell,slinks1,slinks2&amp;nr=1&amp;kw=sting%20guitar%20hero&amp;r=">this image</a> to go on), so we can't find exact details as to what capacity he'll be featured (Will he be playing The Police songs? His own tracks?), but the screen above tells us the man will be rocking the bass. <br /><br />Any Sting fans out there? Like his old stuff, or his new stuff? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero: World Tour</span></a> is going to be a <span style="font-style: italic;">big </span>game. Not only because of all of the features included in the title, but also because it's making some of the most legendary of rockers come out of the woodwork to remaster their songs for the game. MC5's Wayne Kramer is one of these figures, as he went into the studio to re-record his band's hit song "Kick Out the Jams" just for this game. Along with Wayne, friends Jerry Cantrell of Alice and Chains and Gilby Clark formerly of Guns 'N' Roses joined in on the track. Also, it turns out that when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/sex-pistols-reunite-to-record-guitar-hero-3-track/">The Sex Pistols re-recorded a track</a> for <span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero 3</span>, they also did <span style="font-style: italic;">another</span> track, "Pretty Vacant," which will be featured in the upcoming game. As if that wasn't enough, Motorhead also hit the studio and redid their song "Overkill."<br /><br />On top of that, four new tracks were also confirmed for the game, albeit from more modern artists. These tracks are none other than:<br />
<ul>
    <li>The Living End -- "Prisoner of Society"</li>
    <li>Los Lobos -- "La Bamba" </li>
    <li>Bullet for My Valentine -- "Scream Aim Fire"</li>
    <li>Lacuna Coil -- "Our Truth"</li>
</ul>
To check out the videos for these four songs, head past the break.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/older-artists-re-record-classics-for-world-tour-four-new-tracks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Older artists re-record classics for World Tour, four new tracks confirmed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/older-artists-re-record-classics-for-world-tour-four-new-tracks/">Older artists re-record classics for World Tour, four new tracks confirmed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 12:41:00 EST. Activision has announced a whole slew of brands will be supporting the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>, from amps right on down to guitar strings. It's nothing new to us, considering the company did the same thing for previous <em>Guitar Hero </em>games, but the list for <em>World Tour</em> is kind of <em>massive</em>. It goes:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Ampeg</li>
    <li>Audio-Technica</li>
    <li>EMG Pickups</li>
    <li>Ernie Ball</li>
    <li>Evans Drumheads</li>
    <li>Guitar Center</li>
    <li>Krank Amplification</li>
    <li>Mackie</li>
    <li>Marshall</li>
    <li>Orange County Drum &amp; Percussion</li>
    <li>Pork Pie Percussion</li>
    <li>Regal Tip</li>
    <li>Sabian cymbals</li>
    <li>Vox</li>
    <li>Zildjian drumsticks</li>
</ul>
Of course, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band"><em>Rock Band</em></a> tapping Fender for their guitar needs, and Gibson <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/gibson-sues-harmonix-viacom-ea-over-guitar-hero/">suing</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/gibson-lays-lawsuit-on-gamestop-other-major-retailers/">everyone</a> on the planet, we wonder why Activision hasn't found another suitable Guitar manufacturer to feature in their game. May we suggest Ibanez? There's <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/905/905851p1.html">an interesting tidbit</a> over at IGN. At the bottom of one of their articles on the Xbox 360 version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/guitar-heros-mii-freestyle-mode-explained/"><em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em></a>, you'll notice a little blurb with an asterisk. It reads: "*Online gameplay is only available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Wii and may require an additional subscription." Subscription? <br /><br />Part of us thinks this ties into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/gc-2008-activision-demonstrates-music-creation-in-guitar-hero-world-tour/">the whole music-sharing thing</a> that was revealed during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/leipzig-08">GC 2008</a>. Remember, there Activision commented on paying for the ability to upload more of your own custom tracks. So, is this something to do with that? Or, are Wii owners going to need to pay a bit extra? We're thinking it'll have something to do with the music creation, but until we hear definitive word, this one's going to be left open for debate.<br /><br />
<br />[Thanks, Robert!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/activision-thinking-of-charging-subscription-fee-for-guitar-hero/">Activision thinking of charging subscription fee for Guitar Hero?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 18:14:00 EST. The game is so ridiculously full of goodies, fans are likely going to <em>explogasm</em> when they watch the video above. It goes into incredible detail, showing off the music creation fun you can have in Activision's latest installment in its popular franchise. Whether you're mixing drum loops for your tracks or turning your guitar into a keyboard (could this confirm <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/rumor-new-guitar-hero-peripheral-coming/">a keyboard peripheral is inbound</a>?), it looks like you won't be bored with <em>Guitar Hero: World Tour</em> anytime soon after its release.<br /><br />
<br />
