Really, that's not even very paraphrased.<br /><br />"People on the internet suggest the most boring settings," Alex Hutchinson told <a href="http://www.oxm.co.uk/40413/ubisoft-ww2-japan-and-egypt-are-the-three-worst-settings-for-an-assassins-creed-game/">OXM</a>. "The three most wanted are WWII, feudal Japan and Egypt. They're kind of the three worst settings for an <em>AC </em>game."<br /><br />Assassin's Creed 3 writer Corey May really wants to do India, and Hutchinson agrees, saying "I would too. I'd really love to do the Raj."<br /><br />The moral of the story is: Don't expect an Assassin's Creed title in WWII, feudal Japan or Egypt settings, ever. Also, shut up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/05/assassins-creed-3-creative-director-doesnt-like-your-ideas-in/">Assassin's Creed 3 creative director doesn't like your ideas, Internet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Apr 2012 23:00:00 EST. The real Devil's Brigade scaled a mountain carrying more than 50 pounds of supplies and weapons to defeat the camp below in two hours, and they were known for infiltrating German trenches and slitting soldiers' throats, slapping stickers that read "The worst is yet to come," in German, on the dead men's helmets. Underground Development wanted to capture this essence for the game version of<em> Devil's Brigade</em>.<br /><br />But, as history shows, players <em>did </em>understand <em>Modern Warfare</em>. When <em>Devil's Brigade</em> was ready for its final green light, it got lost in the shuffle of Infinity Ward's success and the Blizzard/Vivendi merger. Activision <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/activision-closes-underground-development-studio/">closed Underground Development</a> in 2008 with nary a whisper about <em>Devil's Brigade</em>. The original <em>Bad Company</em> spinoff in the <em>Battlefield</em> series kept the franchise's setting firmly in modern times, but if the <em>Bad Company 2</em> <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=28597">ESRB description</a> is true, you'll be seeing a return to WWII in the sequel. At the very least, the game's opening will bring players back to the Pacific side of the war, with the ESRB description saying, "In single-player mode, players conduct missions on an unnamed Japanese island during World War II and then move into the modern day through jungles, deserts, and snowy terrain."<br />
<br />
Just like we've discovered in our <em>way too many hours</em> with the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/battlefield-bad-company-2-mp-demo-coming-to-360-now/">multiplayer demo</a>, the description details the inclusion of "melee attacks with a power drill" (yes, seriously) and the characters use of profanity "during cutscenes and in the heat of battle." And yes, we're just as excited by the former as you might imagine.<br />

When asked whether or not the <em>Assassin's Creed</em> series would be getting a third installment, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-2"><em>Assassin's Creed 2</em></a> producer <span class="text_article_body">S&eacute;bastien Puel thinks the answer almost goes without saying. "</span><span class="text_article_body">I'm often asked if we're doing a third game after <em>ACII</em>... I mean, we could do 35 of these," he (hopefully) exaggerates to Xbox World 360 in the mag's latest issue (via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=225343?cid=OTC-RSS&amp;attr=CVG-General-RSS">CVG</a>). When</span> the game's creative director told us the second game would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/assassins-creed-2-will-end-with-a-cliffhanger/">ending with a cliffhanger</a>, we didn't know he meant we'd have to play 35 games to resolve it -- that's approximately 35,000 <em>assassinated fools</em>, by our estimations.<br /><br />Explaining his hyperbole further, Puel admits that a female assassin isn't out of the question, even confirming "We've had discussions on that very topic." Still, the Ubisoft producer doesn't want to switch the protagonist's gender without a good reason. "<span class="text_article_body">World War II, the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting</span> ... <span class="text_article_body">we don't want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero, as </span><span class="text_article_body">the first inspiration is always the time period</span>." To read the full interview in its original context, pick up the latest issue of Xbox World 360 (if you're in the UK, that is).<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed-2/">Assassin's Creed II</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed-2/#1485933"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/eziohighres1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed-2/#2071166"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ac2_ca_001_carnival-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed-2/#2071167"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ac2_ca_012_sanmarcoplacevenice-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed-2/#2071168"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ac2_s_004-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed-2/#2071169"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ac2_s_018-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/13/assassins-creed-2-producer-sees-franchise-expanding-beyond-a-tr/">Assassin's Creed 2 producer sees franchise expanding beyond a trilogy, maybe into WWII</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 21:00:00 EST. Yesterday, THQ and Shanda <a href="http://investor.thq.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=96376&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1328559&amp;highlight=">announced their intentions</a> to bring upcoming free-to-play <em>Company of Heroes Online</em> to South Korea via publishing partner WindySoft. Like Relic's PC-only classic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/company-of-heroes"><em>Company of Heroes</em></a>, <em>COHO</em> is an RTS game set during the Second World War, but the additions of a persistent world and expanded player customization (read: <em>microtransactions</em>) aim to set the online iteration apart.<br />
<br />
Currently, no release date is set nor have plans been announced to bring the game to the West. Between Shanda's <em>other</em> free-to-play MMO, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/31/free-to-play-kof-world-to-dropkick-asian-market/"><em>King of Fighters World</em></a>, Namco's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/22/new-details-on-korean-katamari-damacy-online/"><em>Katamari Online</em></a>, and now this, we're starting to feel like Asia's the rich kid down the block getting all the games we could never afford. The PC-only RTS is being developed by Wargaming.net and currently has a "Road to Paris" <a href="http://www.bigdownload.com/games/order-of-war/pc/order-of-war-demo/">demo</a> available for those who'd like an appetizer of the full experience. <br /><br />The game features two different campaign modes, along with multiplayer deathmatch and skirmish modes. No word yet if the main bad guy has gorgeous, flowing gray hair or if the protagonist is suffering from a case of amnesia, but is destined to win the war.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/order-of-war-1/">Order of War</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/order-of-war-1/#2222669"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-07-16_11-50-20_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/order-of-war-1/#2222668"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-07-16_11-42-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/order-of-war-1/#2222667"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-07-16_13-17-36_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/order-of-war-1/#2222666"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-07-16_13-15-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/order-of-war-1/#2222665"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-07-16_11-38-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/03/one-order-of-war-comin-up-sept-22/">One 'Order of War' comin' up Sept. 22</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Sep 2009 01:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Nothing says, "I'm Irish ... <em>really</em>!" like Flogging Molly. And that's exactly the music that EA's Pandemic Studios chose for the new gameplay trailer of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/saboteur"><em>The Saboteur</em></a> you see above. Sure, we enjoyed the game when we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/hands-on-the-saboteur/">checked it out at E3 2009</a>, even though it still looked a bit undercooked at the time.</div>
<br /> And yes, sneaking around WWII-era Paris as a rogue Irishman with a penchant for chaos <em>does</em> sound good to us. But if this music is any indication of the game's attitude, we're feeling a bit wary about it. There's only so much clich&eacute; one can take, folks.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> EA would like us to point out that the trailer above is "made for Germany" and thus" had to be softened for their guidelines." We're pretty sure that means more blood and actual Nazis when the game ships Stateside. Er, um, <em>not in Germany</em> at least.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/">The Saboteur</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233817"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233816"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233815"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233814"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233813"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/the-saboteur-visits-brothels-explodes-nazis-has-an-accent/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Saboteur visits brothels, explodes Nazis, has an accent</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/the-saboteur-visits-brothels-explodes-nazis-has-an-accent/">The Saboteur visits brothels, explodes Nazis, has an accent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Aug 2009 17:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/ubisoft-reveals-ruse-surprise/"><em>RUSE</em></a> is shaping up to become a nice addition to PC gaming, and also to the vacant market of real-time strategy games on consoles. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-wars"><em>Halo Wars</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-alert"><em>Red Alert</em></a> have pretty much been the only standouts, but where's the real depth and longevity of a title like <em>StarCraft</em>? Ubisoft's <span style="font-style: italic;">RUSE</span> is hoping to fill that gap, and based on the time we spent with it recently, it may be just the thing. That is if it'd stop with the gimmicks like showing it at E3 on a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/ubisoft-reveals-ruse-surprise/">Microsoft Surface</a> table and just give us the console goods. Not all of us have a spare $15,000 sitting around.<br /><br />Head beyond the break to see a (very, very) long demo from the Tunisia setting in <em>RUSE</em>, and to read our thoughts about it. It's not something you can pick up and learn in a scant few seconds, but it offers you enough to keep coming back to it. Find out why inside.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ruse/">R.U.S.E.</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ruse/#2071658"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ruse_all_artwork_id_card_vonrichter.psd-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ruse/#2071657"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ruse_all_sketch_american_hq-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ruse/#2071656"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ruse_all_screenshot_airfight_02-copy-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ruse/#2071655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ruse_all_logo_final-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ruse/#2071654"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/ruse_all_screenshot_zoom_in_20-copy-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/impressions-the-steep-learning-curve-of-ruse/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on: RUSE (and its steep learning curve)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/impressions-the-steep-learning-curve-of-ruse/">Hands-on: RUSE (and its steep learning curve)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 20:45:00 EST. We're not sure how much of the trailer is actual gameplay versus the game playing out, but rest assured you can find out for yourself by checking out the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/battlestations-pacific-demo-coming-april-30/">demo on Xbox Live and PC</a>. <br /><br />You'll forgive us if we don't express heady excitement for the game as, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/call-of-duty-producer-hints-at-end-to-wwii-games/">Treyarch's Noah Heller</a>, we're just kinda done with World War II titles. That being said, for those of you looking to retell history on the Eastern stage, <em>Battlestations: Pacific</em> may very well be right for you. A race car driver. 1940s Paris. An Irish accent. Zeppelins. Black and white. If you tossed these items into an active blender -- and it would have to be a pretty big one, what with you chucking <span style="font-style: italic;">Paris</span> in there -- the end result would probably resemble <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-saboteur"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Saboteur</span></a>, which is more simply described as a World War II game that features no American presence. Can you believe it's been more than two years since it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/19/pandemic-unveils-saboteur-a-different-wwii-shooter/">announced</a>? <br /><br />We spent some time with the game recently (and a slew of other EA titles -- keep your eyes open for further coverage over the next few weeks), and talked to lead designer Tom French, from Pandemic, who guided us through the streets of Paris. Check out the gallery of brand new screens below, and head past the break to read all about this innovative WWII title -- now with vintage racing cars!<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/">The Saboteur</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233817"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233816"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233815"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233814"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-saboteur/#2233813"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-25_13-19-00-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/joystiq-impressions-the-saboteur/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: The Saboteur</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/08/joystiq-impressions-the-saboteur/">Joystiq impressions: The Saboteur</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 May 2009 12:00:00 EST. We're as tired as anyone of our seemingly never-ending tour of duty in the Great War, Part Deux. Still, given the unconventional road <em>Red Orchestra</em> has traveled we're just a teensy bit curious what developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tripwire-interactive">Tripwire Interactive</a> has tucked inside its pit helmet. The Georgia-based studio has officially made known <em>Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad</em>, the sequel to 2006's <em>Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45</em>, itself based on the company's celebrated <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/unreal-tournament"><em>Unreal</em> <em>Tournament 2004</em></a> mod,<em> Red Orchestra: Combined Arms</em>. And, breathe.<br /><br /><em>Heroes of Stalingrad</em> will again find players seeking shelter in gun-pits as bullets fly between German and Soviet forces, this time during the historic and bloody Battle of Stalingrad. Setting expectations, Tripwire promises "gritty, vicious combat" and "unrivaled accuracy and attention to detail." While there will of course be multiplayer, the dev also notes players will lace up in the boots of a German soldier as part of a solo campaign told from the Axis point-of-view, something Tripwire claims as a "first" for the FPS genre. No release date has been announced, though armchair soldiers can find out more in the pages of May's PC Gamer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/06/red-orchestra-heroes-of-stalingrad-announced/">Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 May 2009 10:30:00 EST. Geoff Keighley and co. got the scoop on the newest trailer and a ton of info for the upcoming <em>Wolfenstein</em> game from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/raven-software/">Raven Software</a> on last night's <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php?ep=52">GameTrailers TV</a>. The game, unsurprisingly, seeks to bring back most of what we remember from the classic id Software title, from main character B.J. Blazkowicz to the gauntlet of Third Reich baddies taking aim at B.J. along the way. This may or may not be a good thing, considering when we last saw <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/09/nycc-09-returning-to-wolfenstein-why/"><em>Wolfenstein </em>at the NY Comic Con</a>, we were less than impressed.<br /><br />Additionally, the <strike>next-gen</strike> current-gen update to <em>Wolfenstein</em> brings with it some new weapons (a particle gun that vaporizes enemies, for instance) as well as a twist on the gameplay called "the veil," which the game's creative director, Eric Beissman, describes as, "An alternative reality that sits on top of where we live." From what we can glean from the gameplay in the video, this "veil" business seems to be <em>Wolfenstein</em>'s version of bullet-time, as well as a means to employ various powers. <br /><br />To find out everything Mr. Keighley discovered, peep the interview with Beissman after the break. Oh, and yeah, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/09/new-wolfenstein-game-will-not-feature-hitler/">no mech Hitler</a>! <em>Seriously</em>?!<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/21/new-wolfenstein-trailer-and-info-exclusively-from-gametrailers-t/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Wolfenstein trailer and info exclusively from GameTrailers TV</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/21/new-wolfenstein-trailer-and-info-exclusively-from-gametrailers-t/">New Wolfenstein trailer and info exclusively from GameTrailers TV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 21 Mar 2009 14:30:00 EST. Take, for example, the new trailer the game's publisher, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/southpeak">SouthPeak</a>, dropped on us today. Employing one of the most powerful and moving speeches ever given by British <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_churchill">Prime Minister Winston Churchill</a>, we don't exactly consider the modern rock ending on this trailer keeping <em>anything</em> classy.<br /><br />Though our time spent with the game at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nycc-2009/">New York Comic Con</a> last month left us feeling a bit less than ecstatic for the game's impending "April release window," we remain intrigued by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/velvet-assassin"><em>Velvet Assassin</em></a> -- even if the trailer misappropriates one of the most famous speeches in all of history.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/new-velvet-assassin-trailer-misappropriates-churchills-famous-s/">New Velvet Assassin trailer misappropriates Churchill's famous speech</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 06:00:00 EST. <br />Or the United States does, at least. Arguably due to a lack of minigames, GameDaily noted that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/10/call-of-duty-footage-of-war/"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> sold <em>miserably</em> on the Wii (and <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com">DS</a>). The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/november-npd-double-megaton/">latest NPD numbers</a> saw the Xbox 360 (1.41 million units) and PS3 (597,000) versions in second and sixth place respectively, but the Wii iteration was nowhere to be found -- something you guys also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/november-npd-double-megaton/#c16073125">picked up on</a>.<br /></div>
<br />In fact, the Wii game lagged embarrassingly far behind its high-definition cousins: according to GameDaily, the PS2, PC, DS and Wii editions sold around 200,000 units <em>combined</em>. This makes us genuinely fear for games like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/point-counterpoint-pros-and-conduits/"><em>The Conduit</em></a>. <em>Call of Duty</em> is <em>pretty much</em> the biggest name in the console shooter business, so if that can't shift copies on Wii, what chance a brand-new IP?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/18/call-of-duty-world-fails-at-buying-it/">Call of Duty: World Fails at Buying It</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Dec 2008 12:47:00 EST. And depending on how much you enjoyed Treyarch's first-person war-em-up, you might feel the same way. Speaking to <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/12/02/activision-call-of-duty-world-at-war-dlc-will-be-unusual/">MTV Multiplayer</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> executive Daniel Suarez teased the game's upcoming DLC, which is to be formally announced in 2009. Activision hopes to improve on the relatively modest DLC released for <em>Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</em> by creating "potentially two, maybe three packs" before everyone's reeled in by the <em>next</em> CoD. <br /><br />When prodded for specifics about Codwaw dee elsee, Suarez noted, "It's not going to be what we've done traditionally. I'll leave it a little bit mysterious." Ooh! You know what would be radically untraditional? Releasing a few maps for free!<br /><br />We're just saying.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/02/activision-hoping-for-two-maybe-three-cod-world-at-war-dlc-p/">Activision hoping for 'two, maybe three' CoD: World at War DLC packs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Dec 2008 15:30:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> ships in North America <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/answer-your-call-of-duty-this-november/">tomorrow</a>, but if you want an early peek (and have the kind of job where you can get away with watching videos at work all day long), here's the first <em>thirty minutes</em>, starting with the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makin_Island_raid">Makin Island raid</a> (and continuing after the break).<br /><br />Be warned: as this is a <em>Call of Duty</em> game, and hence Just Like The Real Thing, it's full of naughty words from the beginning, not to mention the odd stomach-churning sight. It looks great, though, and is full of the spectacular set-pieces that we love the series for. <br /><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veterans_Day">Veterans Day</a> this year will be marked by silences, parades, and a bunch of people buying the latest <em>Call of Duty</em> game. Previous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/call-of-duty-world-at-war-ships-off-this-november/">speculation</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> would launch in November has now been confirmed -- <em>World at War</em> will appear on November 11th, hopefully giving Wii owners an accomplished shooter to play before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/point-counterpoint-pros-and-conduits/">The Conduit</a> arrives on the scene.<br /><br />For some time, Activision has promised us that the (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-call-of-duty-world-at-war-to-utilize-zapper/">Zapper-compatible</a>) Wii title will be "comparable" to versions on other consoles, based as it is on the <em>Call of Duty 4</em> engine. We'll see how robustly such claims hold up a couple of months from now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/answer-your-call-of-duty-this-november/">Answer your Call of Duty this November</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Sep 2008 22:00:00 EST. For those of you looking to get your hands (or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-call-of-duty-world-at-war-to-utilize-zapper/">your Zapper</a>) dirty in the Pacific theater, know that the Treyarch-developed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/joystiq-talks-to-treyarchs-mark-lamia-on-cod-5/"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> will be hitting shelves this November, according to <a href="http://www.onlythegames.com/articles/playstation-3-articles/call-of-duty-world-at-war-hits-this-november">OnlytheGames</a>. They're claiming an Activision PR rep divulged this info to them and we're inclined to believe it. November seems to be a good month to release games.<br /><br />Joystiq managed to pry a statement from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/activision">Activision</a>: "we haven't made any announcement about date other than fall of 2008." Oddly enough, November falls right into that timeframe.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/only-the-games-call-of-duty-world-at-war-coming-in-november/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/call-of-duty-world-at-war-ships-off-this-november/">Call of Duty: World at War ships off this November</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 18:33:00 EST. It might look like <em>The Ghostbusters Meet Hitler</em>, or the opening scene of the first <em>Hellboy</em> movie, but we're excited about the supernatural side of World War II. Thank you for that, <em>Raiders of the Lost Ark</em>.<br /><br />This is a lot more footage than what we saw at Activision's "Not An E3 Event" <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/joystiq-live-at-activisions-non-e3-press-conference/">event</a> earlier this month, and it looks like it has some potential. The paranormal parts look decent, but why does some of it make us think of <em>Call of Duty... 1</em>? Hopefully we'll get some better looks in the coming months ahead, culminating in some Halloweenalicious spooky soldiers.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wolfentein-quakecon-images/">Wolfentein: QuakeCon Images</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wolfentein-quakecon-images/#953994"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/heavy_trooper2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wolfentein-quakecon-images/#953993"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/church_nazis_underground_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wolfentein-quakecon-images/#953992"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/church_resistance1_tighter_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wolfentein-quakecon-images/#953991"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/midtown_02veil_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wolfentein-quakecon-images/#953990"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/midtown_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/wolfenstein-trailer-and-images-are-occult-tastic/">Wolfenstein trailer and images are occult-tastic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jul 2008 23:35:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/call-of-duty-5-world-at-war-starts-to-surface/"><em>Call of Duty: World at War</em></a> has hit the intertrons! The official <em>COD</em> domain has always been a general-purpose website, but the latest information for the upcoming shooter has been granted its own dedicated section with a whole range of groin-grabbing goodies.<br /><br />The whole point of the site is the get involved with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/joystiq-talks-to-treyarchs-mark-lamia-on-cod-5/">everything <em>Call of Duty</em></a>. You'll sign up and create your profile, and from there you can complete a variety of "missions" to earn points and level up. This include posting in the forums and taking part in polls, but you'll unlock more missions the further you progress within the site.<br /><br />Why does this sound like a video game? It's a website -- but a pretty good one at that. The Intel and Reconnaissance (that is, news and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/call-of-duty-world-at-war-trailer-really-speaks-to-co-op-gamers/">media</a>) sections should be updated regularly, and a developer blog is up and running. <a href="http://www.callofduty.com/CoDWW">Off you go</a>, then!<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/fall-in-to-the-world-at-war-website/">Fall in to the World at War website</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:00:00 EST. Even though it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/call-of-duty-5-world-at-war-starts-to-surface/">revealed</a> earlier, a recent press release has <em>confirmed</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/an-incomplete-list-of-the-greatest-co-op-games-of-all-time/">co-op gameplay</a> in the upcoming <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em>. While the other versions boast four-player online killfests, the Wii will have its own <strike>gimped</strike> "unique co-op mode for two players."<br /><br />It's not all downgrades for the Wii's <em>World at War</em>. Senior producer Noah Heller is confident in its capabilities, <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/23-06-2008-8602.html">claiming</a> "It's going to look better than any Wii game I've ever seen on the market." Also, despite the online and co-op changes, developer Treyarch says "For all intents and purposes it's the same game." Top stuff, because <em>Call of Duty 3</em> <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/callofduty3?q=call%20of%20duty">wasn't entirely</a> up to scratch.<br /><br />Hit that big play button up there to check out the debut trailer for <em>World at War</em>. Officially it's footage from the 360 and PS3 version, but since it's "the same game," the Wii shouldn't miss out on too many of the heart-beating battles in the above video.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/call-of-duty-world-at-war-trailer-really-speaks-to-co-op-gamers/">Call of Duty: World at War trailer really speaks to co-op gamers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 10:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Call+of+Duty/"><em>Call of Duty</em></a> is one of the biggest names in gaming today, and the hard-fightin' adventures of World War II soldiers just keep coming, ready for twitchy trigger-fingers to blast some baddies. The Wii had a taste of the action with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/revolutionary-answering-the-call/">Call of Duty 3</a></em>, even though it couldn't match the super-fine graphics featured on the other consoles.<br /><br />In development at Treyarch, <em>Call of Duty 5: World at War</em> is coming to all three consoles -- but this time, the Wii gets a bit more TLC. It's being developed by a separate team, although the graphics will be much more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/09/wii-cod3-compared-and-contrasted/">comparable</a> between the different versions -- apparently running the <em>COD4</em> engine on the Wii. That's no slouch, folks, as the <em>COD4</em> engine was stunning.<br /><br />We can expect vehicle and squad-based additions to the multiplayer, along with <strike>ZOMG!</strike> a full <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/an-incomplete-list-of-the-greatest-co-op-games-of-all-time/">co-op</a> mode. That's pretty hardcore, because this isn't your church-picnic <em>Call of Duty</em>. Apparently, the setting will be far "grittier" than anything we've seen in the series thus far, which means plenty of grizzled soldiers standing around looking badass with cigarettes, simultaneously getting their violent on. This all goes down in the Pacific theatre of WWII, where hectic battles were commonplace.<br /><br />We want great games to be commonplace on the Wii, and <span style="font-style: italic;">COD5</span> is shaping up nicely. Stay tuned for more details as they arrive!<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/10/call-of-duty-5-world-at-war-starts-to-surface/">Call of Duty 5: World at War starts to surface</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jun 2008 11:46:00 EST. <br />The revival of adventure games on the DS is great news for gamers, but it can make things tough for developers like Austrian outfit Sproing, whose <em>Undercover: Dual Motives</em> will be competing with prestigious genre stablemates such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/ds-fanboy-review-apollo-justice-ace-attorney/"><em>Ace Attorney</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/24/metareview-hotel-dusk-room-215/"><em>Hotel Dusk</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/07/ds-fanboy-review-professor-layton-and-the-curious-village/"><em>Professor Layton and the Curious Village</em></a>. With the likes of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gyakuten-kenji"><em>Gyakuten Kenji</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/04/2008s-biggest-blips-jake-hunter-detective-chronicles/"><em>Jake Hunter</em></a>, and more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/professor-layton-and-the-last-time-travel-announced-for-japan/"><em>Layton</em></a> on the horizon, the competition isn't about to get any easier.<br /><br />In other words, we DS-owning adventure fans are a spoilt bunch, which means it takes something special to impress us. And, as hard as it tries, <em>Undercover: Dual Motives</em> isn't it.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/undercover-dual-motives/">Undercover: Dual Motives</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/undercover-dual-motives/#731033"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/undercover_ds_screen_9sjsjgfsjsf_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/undercover-dual-motives/#731032"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/undercover_ds_screen_8sjgfsjgjs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/undercover-dual-motives/#731031"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/undercover_ds_screen_7_tif_jpgcgsfhgssopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/undercover-dual-motives/#731030"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/undercover_ds_screen_6gsfhgfhgs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/undercover-dual-motives/#731029"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/undercover_ds_screen_10sjgsjsfjgf_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><strong></strong><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/ds-fanboy-review-undercover-dual-motives/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DS Fanboy Review: Undercover: Dual Motives</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/ds-fanboy-review-undercover-dual-motives/">DS Fanboy Review: Undercover: Dual Motives</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 May 2008 14:00:00 EST. And yes, you read that right: it's a World War II game that<em> doesn't</em> involve one-man-army types mowing down screeching Nazis. That fact alone is enough to keep us interested.<br /><br />There's also a twist on the usual adventure game formula, as players have to switch between the doctor and Audrey to solve puzzles (each character gets their own screen), some of which require both characters to lend a hand (a bit like <em>Resident Evil 0</em>, we daresay).<br /><br /><font color="#000000">It's been <a href="http://www.amazon.de/dtp-Entertainment-AG-Undercover-Doppeltes/dp/3899565118/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1207158781&amp;sr=1-1">available in German-speaking regions</a> since last year, and we're still waiting on news of an English-language localization, but the fact that Eidos is suddenly distributing new screens gives us hope -- even if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/undercover-dual-motives/731032/">some</a> are still in German.<br /><br /><u>Update:</u> After chatting to the good folks at Eidos, we've learned that this <em>will</em> be getting a 2008 release. Should you need a good dose of point and shoot in your games library, you might feel inclined to take advantage of Amazon's "Deal of the Day." At $32.99, you can shoot up some Nazis for pretty cheaply by getting the Wii version of <em>Medal of Honor: Heroes 2.</em> We think it's a pretty good game (unless <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/medal-of-no-online-confirmed-for-australia-refund-available/">you live in Australia</a>), and it used to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/david-hinkle/">Dave's</a> favorite Wii title to play on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/game-night/">Game Night</a> until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl/">that Nintendo brawler</a> came out. <br /><br />Does anyone think that they'll bite on today's deal? If so, just make sure you do it before 3am EDT.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/01/deal-of-the-day-of-honor/">Deal of the Day of Honor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Apr 2008 15:00:00 EST. <font color="red">Update</font>: Those of you who got their hopes up regarding <em>The Monkey King</em>, prepare to be disappointed. The game has been delayed to Q2. Sorry!<br /><br />The final day of March brings word that not much is releasing for the Wii this week. Frankly, we'll take the respite, because our wallet needs a break from having to buy so many Wii and DS games lately. Of course, that isn't to say this week's pair of releases aren't without their merit. Just, as far as we go, we're not interested.<br /><br />This week's releases are:<br />
<ul>
    <li><strike><em>The Monkey King: The Legend Begins</em></strike></li>
    <li><em>WWII Aces</em></li>
</ul>
What about you all? We have one word to describe <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/ace-combat-team-making-wii-flight-sim/">Sky Crawlers</a>: <span style="font-style: italic;">Gorgeous</span>. Yes, looks aren't everything, but we're too busy mopping up our own drool to care about such technicalities. Also, since the game is being made by the same people behind <span style="font-style: italic;">Ace Combat,</span> we're going to bet that the gameplay in this will be just fine. At the very least, the controls sound solid. Simply enough, you move your plane around with the Nunchuck, and then point and shoot with the Wiimote. <br /><br />The best shots of the game are in our gallery (below), but some more Famitsu screens are posted after the break. So, click away if you're looking for some nice Wii eye-candy.<br /><br /><strong>*Note:</strong> The pictures look best when viewed in their full resolution, so make sure to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sky-crawlers/713484/full/">click here</a> to see them in their glory. If you prefer, you can also click on the "Hi Res" button in the gallery.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/sky-crawlers-screens-soar-past-our-expectations/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sky Crawlers screens soar past our expectations</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/sky-crawlers-screens-soar-past-our-expectations/">Sky Crawlers screens soar past our expectations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 20:00:00 EST. I'm not saying it's an <em>easy</em> game (far from it) or that there isn't enough to do. <em>Spitfire Heroes</em> is simple in the way that arcade games are: the controls are intuitive and easy to pick up quickly, and the objectives are clear. Despite its appearance as a flight sim (one of the most complex genres of all), <em>Spitfire Heroes </em>is an action game through and through, more <em>After Burner</em> than <em>Microsoft Flight Simulator.<br /></em><br />Unfortunately, some fairly major issues prevent <em>Spitfire Heroes</em> from an unqualified recommendation. Right up front: the game is too hard, which may prevent you from seeing the majority of the content. While it's easy to understand <em>how</em> to play, it is remarkably difficult <em>to</em> play.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/ds-fanboy-review-spitfire-heroes-tales-of-the-royal-air-force/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>DS Fanboy Review: Spitfire Heroes: Tales of the Royal Air Force</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/ds-fanboy-review-spitfire-heroes-tales-of-the-royal-air-force/">DS Fanboy Review: Spitfire Heroes: Tales of the Royal Air Force</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Mar 2008 10:30:00 EST. We doubt that many of you had even heard of <span style="font-style: italic;">Sabotage</span>, an up-and-coming Gamecock joint based on the incredible true story of World War II hero (for the Allies, at least) and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violette_Szabo">secret agent extraordinaire Violette Szabo</a>, but we think it's worth mentioning when a game upgrades from a title as generic as "<span style="font-style: italic;">Sabotage</span>" to something unique; something that sounds purchase-worthy. That's why we're totally behind developer Replay Studios' decision to <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=33663">remoniker the stealth action shooter <span style="font-style: italic;">Velvet Assassin</span></a>.<br /><br />Lucky Austintonians will get a chance to check out the newly eponymed game at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/gamecock-details-2008-e-i-e-i-o-expo/">Gamecock's E.I.E.I.O expo this coming Thursday</a> -- the rest of us will have to wait for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velvet_Assassin"><em>Velvet Assassin</em>'s Fall 2008 release</a> to digitally fill Violette Summers' sneaky leather shoes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/01/gamecocks-wwii-stealth-shooter-sabotage-becomes-velvet-assas/">Gamecock's WWII stealth shooter 'Sabotage' becomes 'Velvet Assassin'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 01 Mar 2008 18:30:00 EST. Maybe someone on staff accidentally saved over the multiplayer code with a copy of some <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Belvedere">Mr. Belvedere</a> </em>fanfiction, for example.<br /><br />IGN speculated that EA's Australian branch opted not to operate the local servers that would be necessary for online play. That sounds more plausible and less interesting than the <em>Mr. Belvedere</em> thing. <br /><br />If you bought <em>Heroes 2</em> expecting online, and are now outraged at the incompleteness of your game, you can return it to EA for a full refund.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/medal-of-no-online-confirmed-for-australia-refund-available/">Medal of No-Online confirmed for Australia, refund available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Feb 2008 12:00:00 EST. <br />There's a <em>vicious</em> rumor currently circulating on a number of message boards that the Australian version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/medal-of-honor-heroes-2"><em>Medal of Honor: Heroes 2</em></a> is shipping without online functionality <em>of any description</em>. Forum users at various sites, including <a href="http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17092&amp;postdays=0&amp;postorder=asc&amp;start=0">Aussie-Nintendo</a>, <a href="http://www.palgn.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=24343&amp;sid=e0ae94b5277bb747ecc21b19aaedc30b">PALGN</a>, and <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236596">NeoGAF</a>, have all complained that the in-game menus completely lack an option to play online, while the game's box in Australia has neither the Nintendo Wi-Fi logo, or a mention of the title's much-vaunted 32-player online mode, which is available in other regions.<br /><br />Just to further confuse matters, the game manual that shipped with the title in Australia reportedly <em>does</em> dedicate a whole page to the online mode. Frankly, we're confused, not to mention a little bit worried for our fellow Wii owners down under. <br /><br />At the time of writing, EA has yet to respond to our request for clarification.<br /><br />[Thanks, Peter!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/rumor-aussie-medal-of-honor-heroes-2-missing-online-functional/">Rumor: Aussie Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 missing online functionality</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Feb 2008 14:15:00 EST. The World War II genre may be glutted (and a little played out) by now, but when a game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/31/the-good-stuff-in-medal-of-honor-heroes-2/">looks this good</a> and has as much to offer as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/09/joystiq-goes-hands-on-with-medal-of-honor-heroes-2/"><em>Medal of Honor: Heroes 2</em></a>, we're not going to complain too stridently. In other words, we'll take what we can get. <em>Heroes 2</em> is set for this month, and EA released three more screenshots to whet our appetites while we wait, which you can find both above, and in our gallery below.<br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/10/medal-of-honor-heroes-2-marches-in-with-new-screens/">Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 marches in with new screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Nov 2007 14:00:00 EST. Now that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/25/metareview-zack-and-wiki-quest-for-barbaros-treasure/"><em>Zack &amp; Wiki</em></a> has been released into the wild, IGN's Matt Casamassina needs something new to hype, and we're all sorts of behind this latest choice: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/fire-up-medal-of-honor-heroes-2/"><em>Medal of Honor: Heroes 2</em></a>. In a recent blog entry, he reports that the controls are out of this world. In fact, he says the WWII title "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/13/gamers-respect-samus-too-much-to-picture-her-naked/">beats the pants off</a> <em>Metroid Prime 3</em> in the FPS control department. This is the new Wii benchmark, period." That's a <em>bold</em> statement, but it seems to jibe with what we've seen and heard so far about the game ... and hey, we get bonus incredible multiplayer to boot. Put us down in the excited column on this one.<br /><br />In the same post, he drops possible hints of an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=elebits&amp;searchsubmit="><em>Elebits</em></a> sequel. While what we're really interested in with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/30/get-a-load-of-medal-of-honor-heroes-2/"><em>Medal of Honor: Heroes 2</em></a> is that whole 32-player online multiplayer deal, we're happy to soak up any and all scraps on the WWII title -- and that includes these latest screenshots.<br /><br />So let's count the reasons we love this next <em>Medal of Honor</em>. First, if it all works out, EA will be giving us a real chance at online multiplayer in a shooter. Second, the arcade mode sounds nothing short of awesome for anyone who likes on-rails shooters, and it offers a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/03/wii-warm-up-a-different-shooter/">different experience</a> than the more free-form campaign mode -- it's almost like getting two games for the price of one! And finally, even if we aren't the biggest fans of war-based games, it's nice to get something a little different every now and then, especially when it shows this much promise. Don't let us down, EA! Even dedicated Nintendo fans need a little variety. It is, after all, the spice of life.<br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/fire-up-medal-of-honor-heroes-2/">Fire up Medal of Honor: Heroes 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Oct 2007 15:00:00 EST. German Forces Vs. the Allies</em>), but maybe if the game is localized, O3 or whichever company will pick up on our suggestion. Their title is more descriptive, we guess.<br /><br />The first <em>Tank Beat</em> detailed a fictional war between the countries of Codusal and Kyushengaard, though it included some real-world tanks. This one, however-- unless they've invented a new set of "Allies" and "Germans"-- takes place in World War II. You know, like <em>every other game.</em><br /><br />Did any of you check out <em>Tank Beat?</em> We didn't, though we like the idea of an arcade-ish tank game with stylus controls; we're thinking an updated <em>Battlezone.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/tank-beat-2-tank-beater/">Tank Beat 2: Tank Beater</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 12:20:00 EST. But 32-player online battles will make this shooter unique. Will internet connectivity become a key component for a great Wii FPS? The game ships November 13, marking an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/friendcode">overdue</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/16/guitar-hero-3-to-feature-online-multiplayer/">trend</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/supermariostrikers">Wii</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/madden-08-wii-online-without-friend-codes/">games</a> finally getting online.<br /><br />Judging from the <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24951.html">trailer</a>, <em>Medal of Honor Heroes 2</em> looks good (albeit not HD-good). Early word on this game is nothing short of amazing. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/27/because-you-need-to-know-more-about-medal-of-honor/">Screenshots</a> that have us a little impressed. 32-person (!) online multiplayer. But best of all? Word is that the controls are awesome, and that's what really matters. It looks like EA is really sinking their teeth into the Wii, from their special control schemes to their game choices. We never thought we'd say this, but they're shaping up to be one of our favorite developers this cycle.<br /><br />IGN's Matt Casamassina recently spent some quality time with the latest <em>Medal of Honor</em> title and has nothing but praise for it. Apparently it even adds a little something to the WWII game, which is good news; we're starting to think that developers have forgotten every other war in history. He does lament the on-rails aspect of Arcade Mode, but says everything else (i.e., the shooting part of the shooting game) is worth playing. The more free-flowing Campaign Mode, however, moves beyond simply "worth playing" and into "rivals Metroid," which piques our interest something fierce. So let's talk. Are you into this one? Has it cropped up on your radar now? Or are you skeptical until you see more on it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/03/wii-warm-up-a-different-shooter/">Wii Warm Up: A different shooter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Sep 2007 09:00:00 EST.
