Major Nelson has <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/majornelson/status/67647674916143104">tweeted</a> that <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/star-raiders"><em>Star Raiders</em></a> will arrive on Xbox Live Arcade this week. Based on the Atari 800 title of the same name, the new version was developed by Incinerator Studios. Like the original, <em>Star Raiders</em> focuses on galactic navigation and dogfights. It also comes packing multiplayer modes, so space combat fans may want to keep their eyes on it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/10/star-raiders-launch-on-xbla-this-wednesday/">Star Raiders launch on XBLA this Wednesday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 May 2011 01:05:00 EST. If you haven't already purchased <em>Raskulls</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/22/download-raskulls-early-through-ilomilo/">through</a> a fellow "Games for the Holidays" title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-world-of-keflings"><em>A World of Keflings</em></a> or (the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/a-world-of-keflings-raskulls-and-ilomilo-dated-for-xbla/">officially</a> unreleased) <em>ilomilo,</em> Halfbrick's puzzle-platform is now very clearly available on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Additionally, dual-stick, <em>Innerspace-esque</em> shooter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/microbot"><em>MicroBot</em></a> (800 points) makes a surprise invasion on the service, in addition to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/04/magic-the-gathering-duels-of-the-planeswalkers-summons-third/">long-awaited</a> third expansion pack (400 points; <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Expansion-Pack-3-Multiplayer-Only/569a62d9-7257-40f6-a30e-62ee0e07ffa4">free multiplayer version</a>) for <em>Magic: The Gathering</em>.<br />
<br />
And now for the but-back-to-<em>Innerspace</em> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOuL3tK9t3Y">link of the day</a> ...<br />

The two <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/doritos-unlock-xbox-finalists-narrowed-to-two/">final contenders</a> in the Doritos-sponsored "Unlock Xbox" game design contest have been fully realized and released as Xbox Live Arcade games today, for free. Until December 26, you can cast your vote for either <em>Doritos Cash Course</em> (<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Doritos-Crash-Course/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410a71">download</a>) or<em> Harms Way</em> (<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Harms-Way/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410a70">download</a>) through the Xbox Unlock ad on the Dashboard, with the winner to be announced on December 29 and offered a 50G (that's dollars, not Achievement points) part-time, game consulting gig with Doritos.<br />
<br />
Perhaps overshadowed by the <em>flavorful</em> showdown, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/bomberman-live-battlefest-blows-up-xbla-on-december-8/">previously announced</a> <em>Bomberman Live</em> sequel, <em>Battlefest</em> (<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Bomberman-Battlefest/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802584109b2">download</a>), is also available on the Arcade today for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Additionally, the third <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light/"><em>Lara Croft: GoL</em></a> challenge pack add-on, "A Hazardous Reunion" (<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/A-Hazardous-Reunion-Challenge-Pack-3/4dfb9f5b-10f2-42f3-baf3-568ad5137b39">download</a>), has been released for 400 points ($5), along with the "Marvel Pinball" tables (<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/MARVEL-Pinball-Full/f5ace2f0-dc8f-4ed6-9d13-a85c18ffad34">download</a>/<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/MARVEL-Pinball-Trial/00000000-0000-4000-8000-002958410a23">trial</a>) for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pinball-fx-2"><em>Pinball FX 2</em></a>, priced at 800 points.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/costume-quest"><em>Costume Quest</em></a> DLC "Grubbins on Ice" (<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Costume-Quest-Grubbins-on-Ice/e86d840b-a3f7-4566-90f2-d88bd7b39375">download</a>) has also been released today for 400 points.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/08/get-into-harms-way-doritos-crash-course-and-bomberman-battlefes/">Get into Harms Way, Doritos Crash Course and Bomberman Battlefest on XBLA today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Dec 2010 11:00:00 EST. Next Wednesday, December 8, Hudson will launch <em>Bomberman Live: Battlefest</em> on Xbox Live Arcade. It follows the original <em>Bomberman Live</em>, which has dished out more than 500,000 copies since launching in 2007, and sports multiplayer for up to eight players, four new game modes and five new power-ups.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/bomberman-live-battlefest-blows-up-xbla-on-december-8/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bomberman Live: Battlefest blows up XBLA on December 8</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/bomberman-live-battlefest-blows-up-xbla-on-december-8/">Bomberman Live: Battlefest blows up XBLA on December 8</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Dec 2010 09:00:00 EST. You'll be doing much more than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/01/konami-deals-out-yu-gi-oh-5ds-decade-duels-on-xbla-this-week/">courting intense card battles</a> with this week's Xbox Live Arcade releases -- you'll also be punching, kicking, and ... uh ... <em>jumpkicking</em> fools with the release of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-king-of-fighters-2002-unlimited-match">King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match</a></em>. The fighter gets a facelift and an audio upgrade, alongside an "extensively redesigned" character balance. If that weren't enough, <em>KOF 2002: UM</em> features "the most playable characters ever in the <em>KOF</em> series," with 66 fighters in total.<br />
<br />
The game will run you 800 MS Points ($10) this Wednesday when it arrives on Xbox Live Marketplace. And hey, for a game that evidently features unlimited matches, that's a heck of a price.<br />
<br />

We're not about to start pretending like we understand what <em>Yu-Gi-Oh</em> is all about. (It's like <em>Pok&eacute;mon</em> with cards or something, right?) Anyway, Konami has <a href="http://twitter.com/Konami/status/29009029966#">tweeted</a> that <em>Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels</em> -- try saying that one five times fast -- will be <em>dealt out</em> on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday. The game seems geared to online play and allows up to four players to duke it out in free-for-all or tag duels. Naturally, players will also be able to bulk up their decks by purchasing new cards on Xbox Live Marketplace.<br />
<br />
We'd love to close this post with a pithy <em>Yu-Gi-Oh</em> joke but, sadly, our inexperience renders this impossible. So, we'll just have to leave it to YouTube user <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMMdaGGkqv4&amp;feature=fvw">ipooinyourface</a>.<br />

We're not sure who's fiddling with all the levers and knobs at Xbox Live Arcade headquarters, but we've received a second day of new releases this week. Call it XBLA Thursday. <em>Bloody Good Time</em> and <em>Haunted House</em> were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/25/this-wednesday-bloody-good-time-pinball-fx-2-come-to-xbla/">initially expected</a> -- and then <em>rejected</em> -- to arrive on Wednesday, but it appears they needed another day to cook (or get out of Game Feast's way). <br />

It's set to be another packed Wednesday for Xbox Live Arcade releases. First, the previously <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/12/pinball-fx-2-delayed-still-part-of-xblas-game-feast/">delayed</a> <em>Pinball FX 2</em> will bring its bumpers to the table. Plus, Ubisoft's humorous FPS <em>Bloody Good Time</em> is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/pc-xbla-in-for-a-bloody-good-time-on-oct-27/">set to debut</a>. And as if those weren't enough, <a href="http://www.gamerbytes.com/2010/10/this_week_on_xbla_bloody_good.php">GamerBytes</a> reports <em>3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures 2</em> (finally, a sequel!) and Atari's reboot of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/haunted-house"><em>Haunted House</em></a> will be released this Wednesday, as well.<br />
<br />
Oh, no -- we're not done yet: The <em>Hydro Thunder Hurricane</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/19/hydro-thunder-hurricane-tempest-pack-available-oct-27/">Tempest Pack DLC</a> is <em>also</em> coming out this Wednesday ... Okay, we're done now.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Microsoft's Graeme Boyd (a.k.a. AceyBongos) has <a href="http://twitter.com/AceyBongos/status/28724585015">tweeted</a> that both <em>Bloody Good Time</em> and <em>Haunted House</em> are not confirmed for release this week. Of course, Boyd's wording indicates that both releases <em>could</em> still happen.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update 2:</strong> Wednesday has arrived and, sure enough, only <em>3D Ultra MiniGolf Adventures 2</em><em> </em>and <em>Pinball FX2</em> have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/27/xbla-in-brief-3d-ultra-minigolf-adventures-2-pinball-fx-2/">been released</a>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update 3:</strong> Okay, last one, we promise. <em>Bloody Good Time </em>and <em>Haunted House</em> have now <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/28/bloody-good-time-haunted-house-sneak-onto-xbla/">been released</a>. A day late.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/25/this-wednesday-bloody-good-time-pinball-fx-2-come-to-xbla/">This Wednesday: Pinball FX 2 comes to XBLA [Update 3: Bloody Good Time or Haunted House released late]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Oct 2010 17:00:00 EST. With <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/tgs-2010">TGS</a> in full swing, it's only appropriate that this week's trio of Xbox Live Arcade releases comes courtesy of Japan. There's <em>Sonic Adventure</em>, a <em>King of Fighters</em>-branded shooter and a new twist on <em>Space Invaders</em> -- not to be confused with that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/space-invaders-extreme"><em>other</em> new twist</a> on <em>Space Invaders</em>. Watch the latest episode of XBLA in Brief and see if any of these games deserves a closer look.<br />

A friendly reminder that the XBLA ports of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Plants-vs-Zombies/"><em>Plants vs. Zombies</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dance-its-your-stage"><em>Dance! It's Your Stage</em></a> sashay in a shambling manner onto Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday. The XBLA version of the flora versus undead tower defense title will cost 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), while that dancing game will be 800 points ($10).<br />
<br />
The XBLA version of <em>PvZ</em> features <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/17/plants-vs-zombies-xbla-getting-co-op-versus-mode/">co-op and versus multiplayer</a>, along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/06/plant-yourself-in-front-of-this-xbla-plants-vs-zombies-trailer/">your very own customizable house</a>. The XBLA version of <em>Dance! It's Your Stage</em> features, um -- did we mention <em>Plants vs. Zombies</em> is coming out this week?<br />

It's a great week for Xbox 360 owners who possess a great deal of pent-up aggression, as the two-week PSN exclusivity of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world"><em>Scott Pilgrim vs. The World</em></a> comes to a halt this Wednesday, August 25. The highly stylized, chiptune-enhanced beat 'em up will run you 800 Microsoft Points ($10), which is roughly equivalent to the price of a <em>Scott Pilgrim</em> movie ticket -- an item apparently covered in some kind of <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=scottpilgrim.htm">fatal, diffusive poison</a>.<br />
<br />
If you're looking for a beat-'em-up with more ... well, stabbing, you'll also be able to pick up Klei Entertainment's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/shank"><em>Shank</em></a> for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15). That's a little bit more than the entry fee to <em>Scott Pilgrim</em>, but we're sure that's only because of discrepancies in the Canadian/American currency exchange rate.<br />

The Xbox 360 forecast is absolutely <em>droughtful</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/27/now-playing-july-26-august-1-2010/">this week at retail</a>, with the <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/clash-of-the-titans">Clash of the Titans</a></em> <strike>theater</strike> DVD release tie-in drying up store shelves. Thankfully, the Xbox Live Marketplace is <em>overflowing</em> with new content this week, including today's release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/madden-nfl-11">the new <em>Madden</em></a> demo.<br />
<br />
Additionally, DLC for a pool of recent releases -- <em>Alan Wake, Lost Planet 2</em> and <em>Transformers,</em> to name a few -- flowed out today, and the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/06/summer-of-arcade-xbla-games-dated-and-priced/">Summer of Arcade</a>" shines on tomorrow with <em>Hydro Thunder</em> <em>Hurricane</em>. (Did you read <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/26/review-hydro-thunder-hurricane/">our review</a> yet?) Finally, <em>Borderan</em><em>ds'</em> trio of add-ons is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/21/borderlands-dlc-discounted-for-xbox-live-deal-of-next-week/">on sale</a> through Sunday.<br />

XBLA is all about death this week. First up we have gruesome, deadly martial arts with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deadliest-warrior"><em>Deadliest Warrior: The Game</em></a> and then we have just, heroic, loot-driven murder with <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deathspank"><em>DeathSpank</em></a>. Honestly, both causes of death have their appeal. Watch the latest XBLA in Brief and see just how fun death can be.<br />

Newly <em>remasted,</em> LucasArts' <em>Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge</em> has charted a course for Xbox Live Arcade, where it will arrive alongside <em>Blacklight: Tango Down</em> tomorrow, July 7. <em>LeChuck's Revenge</em> plan hasn't deviated since it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/29/monkey-island-2-special-edition-coming-to-psn-on-july-6-xbla-an/">finalized a week ago</a>, but the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/29/blacklight-tango-down-july-7-release-date/">scheduled</a> <em>Blacklight</em> drop zone was called into question last week when the game's publisher, Ignition Entertainment, could not confirm the date.<br />
<br />
Today, Ignition formally announced the multiplayer shooter's deployment on XBLA for tomorrow, adding that the PSN and PC versions will arrive in "the coming weeks." <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/blacklight-tango-down"><em>BlackLight: Tango Down</em></a> will be available for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/monkey-island-2-special-edition-lechucks-revenge"><em>Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge</em></a> can be had for 800 MSP ($10).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/06/this-wednesday-monkey-island-2-blacklight-tango-on-xbla/">This Wednesday: Monkey Island 2, Blacklight tango on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Jul 2010 22:30:00 EST. It's pretty much accepted that none of us here at Joystiq are good people. We have to wonder, then, just what we did to deserve a much-desired sequel and a new NinjaBee game in the same week. It's a mystery for sure, but <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/06/24/coming-soon-to-the-xbox-live-marketplace-june-24.aspx">Major Nelson</a> has announced that both <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/puzzle-quest-2"><em>Puzzle Quest 2</em></a> (as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/21/puzzle-quest-2-drops-on-xbla-june-30/">previously dated</a>) and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ancients-of-ooga"><em>Ancients of Ooga</em></a> are slated to arrive on Xbox Live Arcade next week.<br />
<br />
If you want to dip into some puzzle-fueled role-playing, you'll need 1200 MS Points ($15) for <em>Puzzle Quest 2</em>. First, yes, there is <em>another</em> game out this week. That game is <em>NeoGeo Battle Coliseum</em>, an SNK fighting game. But enough about that, because <em>Earthworm Jim HD</em> is upon us. It is, by and large, <em>Earthworm Jim</em>, which should make old school fans happy, and undoubtedly delight the uninitiated. Check out the latest <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/XBLA-in-Brief">XBLA in Brief</a> and see what the fuss is about.<br />

Grab your bomber jackets, folks. On June 2, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Snoopy-Flying-Ace/"><em>Snoopy: Flying Ace</em></a> soars to the Xbox Live Arcade for 800<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10), and if you recall from our previous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/02/hands-on-snoopy-flying-ace-xbla/#continued">hands-on experience</a> with the game, it's something we're looking forward to. In <em>Snoopy: Flying Ace</em>, players can take on the role of the famous <em>Peanuts</em> crew or use their own Avatar to pilot fully customizable aircraft.<br />
<br />
The part we're most excited about? Outmaneuvering the competition online with graceful tricks reminiscent of the original Xbox gem <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/crimson-skies"><i>Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge</i></a>. We look forward to shooting you out of the sky.<br />

Normally, voodoo isn't something to be taken lightly. As dear old pa liked to say, "Just because you don't believe in voodoo, it don't mean you laugh in the witch doctor's face." Wise words indeed, but then pappy didn't know about <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/v/voodoodicexbla/"><em>Voodoo Dice</em></a>, this week's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a> release -- a puzzle game of sorts from Ubisoft and Exkee. All we really know is that it involves dice, includes single-player and multiplayer and will cost 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10). Thus far, it <em>appears</em> to be free of vengeful witch doctors itching for an excuse to zombify us, so <em>that's</em> a relief.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> This week's XBLA update will also include id's classic first-person shooter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/doom-2">Doom II</a></em>, as well as <em>Ben 10 Alien Force: The Rise of Hex</em> -- for 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" />  ($10) each.<br />

Whether it's by land or by sea, you'll have ample opportunity to make things go kaboom this week on Xbox Live Arcade. SNK is offering another side-scrolling actionfest in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-slug-xx">Metal Slug XX</a> </em>(1200<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />), while Games Distillery launches a steampunk naval warfare title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aqua"><em>Aqua</em></a> (800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />). Not since <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxYmEYBLgBE">the end of <em>Commando</em></a> has there been such a long line of dudes ready to buy their own farms.<br />

It's a double-header of fast moving objects on Xbox Live Arcade this week. First up is <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/things-on-wheels"><em>Things on Wheels</em></a>, an R/C racer of miniaturized yet epic proportions, complete with four-player online and offline play. Next is <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/rocket-knight"><em>Rocket Knight</em></a>, whose fast moving object is ... <em>a possum with a jet pack</em>. It may sound weird, but it's a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_Knight_Adventures">proven formula</a>.<br />
<br />
<em>Things on Wheels</em> will be available this Wednesday for 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10); and <em>Rocket Knight</em> will set you back 1200<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15).<br />

The Xbox Live Arcade offerings this week run the gamut, whether you're in the mood to plumb the depths of the unknown or snuggle up with a known quantity. <br />
<br />
If you're in the mood to relax with something a little more familiar, check out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/raystorm-hd"><em>Raystorm HD</em></a>, a remake of the classic PlayStation/Saturn shmup from Taito. But if you're ready for something a little ... different, you owe it to yourself to play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zeno-clash"><em>Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition</em></a>, which, no exaggeration, gives us the creeps just typing it. It's a first-person brawling semi-shooter -- like <em>Chronicles of Riddick, </em>if its main character had just dropped all the acid.<br />
<br />
You'll be able to pick up both Wednesday for 1200<span class="album_title"><img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15) each.</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/04/this-wednesday-zeno-clash-raystorm-hd-fly-into-xbla/">This Wednesday: Zeno Clash, Raystorm HD fly into XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 May 2010 13:30:00 EST. After last week's one-two punch of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/final-fight-double-impact"><em>Final Fight: Double Impact</em></a> (you bought it, right?), another arcade gem will take off on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday in the form of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/after-burner-climax"><em>After Burner Climax</em></a>. It's a port of the 2006 arcade game, which itself is a revival of the classic, late-80s arcade series.<br />
<br />
Konami's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/puzzle-chronicles"><em>Puzzle Chronicles</em></a> also arrives on XBLA this week. Lest you've forgotten, this is "that game that looks like a sideways version of <em>Puzzle Quest</em>." If it's anywhere near as <em>good</em> as <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/puzzle-quest"><em>Puzzle Quest</em></a>, we'll take it.<br />
<br />
Both games will be available for 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10) apiece.<br />

That's "This Wednesday," like, <em>this</em> Wednesday -- today. Sorry we waited so long to bring you this regular installment of "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xblawednesday">This Wednesday</a>," it's just that we kind of figured this particular release would be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/23/xbox-live-march-schedule-block-party-perfect-dark-and-more/">a little hard to forget</a>. But for those of you not <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/09/xbox-live-marketplace-release-schedule-for-march-revealed/">paying attention</a>, here it is: FPS classic <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/perfect-dark"><em>Perfect Dark</em></a> arrives on Xbox Live today for 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10). If you're on the fence, check out our full <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/perfect-dark-xbla-review/">review</a> of the game.<br />
<br />
Now, if you'll excuse us, we're going to go buy some Surge and Tato Skins off eBay and hit Felicity for some King of the Bathroom.<br />

Slick Entertainment's top-down racer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scrap-metal"><em>Scrap Metal</em></a> continues Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/16/xbox-live-arcade-block-party-games-game-room-dated/">Xbox Live Arcade Block Party</a> promotion this week, <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2010/03/08/this-week-on-arcade-scrap-metal.aspx">Major Nelson</a> reports. And guns ... to be used during the rocking and rolling and racing. It's like a fruit salad of slaughter and sweet licks, we guess.<br />

While a tower defense game at its core, the game adds a small twist to the genre, allowing players to take control over individual towers and units. In other words, if you think your sniper tower is focusing on the wrong units, you can snap into first-person control and do something about it.<br />

After first being rumored <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/08/rumor-indie-darling-darwinia-to-hit-xbla/">nearly four years ago</a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/darwinia"><em>Darwinia+</em></a> is due to hit Xbox Live Arcade in only two more days. We're sure that the game's fans are pleased to hear the news, as is developer Introversion. After all, the company <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/22/darwinia-dev-on-psn-xbla-differences-psn-challenges/">has a lot riding</a> on <em>Darwinia</em>'s XBLA outing. <br />
<br />
The game features a single-player campaign, online multiplayer for four players and plenty of sweet, retro stylings. Taking cues from real-time strategy, god games and, oh, let's say <em>Tron</em>, <em>Darwinia</em> has players controlling squads of 2D sprite characters called Darwinians as they battle an evil computer virus. The original PC version of the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/23/gdc-dar-win-ia-a-success-at-igf/">took home the grand prize</a> at the 2006 Independent Games Festival.<br />

Aside from being one of the best indie bands to emerge from Champaign, Illinois in recent years, Cubes and Vandals neatly compose this week's Xbox Live Arcade update. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/12/xbox-live-deals-xbla-releases-and-games-on-demand-for-january/">previously announced</a> and reiterated <em>just now</em>, Square Enix's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/death-by-cube"><em>Death by Cube</em></a> and Konami's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vandal-hearts-flames-of-judgment"><em>Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment</em></a> join the Xbox 360's download service on Wednesday, January 20.<br />
<br />
After missing its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/vandal-hearts-delayed-for-xbla-and-psn-still-hearts-you/">original release target</a> in 2009, <em>Vandal Hearts</em> brings the classic strategy franchise up to speed with enhanced visuals, an overhauled interface and a 1200<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($15) price tag. Those less enthused by moving squares on a grid might prefer mowing down cubes on a plane -- that's what you'll do in <em>Death by Cube</em>, available for 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10). It's also what you'll do at a Cubes on a Plane concert. They're just <em>terrible </em>live.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/18/this-wednesday-xbla-beset-by-cubes-and-vandals/">This Wednesday: XBLA beset by Cubes and Vandals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jan 2010 15:06:00 EST. Considering there's really nothing serious about it -- some of the enemies have <em>bombs for heads</em> -- we're not sure how <em>Serious Sam</em> wound up with its name. It could be comic irony, or perhaps merely for its delightful sibilance. Honestly, we may never know. What we <em>do </em>know is that <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/serious-sam-hd"><em>Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter</em></a> is <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2010/01/11/this-week-on-arcade-serious-sam-hd.aspx">this week's XBLA release</a>, as <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/12/22/serious-sam-hd-hits-xbla-jan-13-new-trailer/">promised last month</a>. Faux video game legend Matt Hazard returns (this time, <em>for real</em>) in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/matt-hazard-blood-bath-and-beyond"><em>Blood Bath &amp; Beyond</em></a>, blasting his way onto XBLA and PSN this Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. The 2D side-scroller has the protagonist battling through his "classic" gaming past, fighting "pirates to penguins; lighthouses to laser-wielding astronauts; Mounties to mechanical rhinos" for $15 (<span class="album_title">1200<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />).</span><br />
<br />
The idea behind <em>Matt Hazard</em> sounds so perfect on paper: take thirty years of video game cliches and mock them. Sadly, as evidenced by Matt Hazard's first outing, <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/eatleadthereturnofmatthazard?q=matt%20hazard"><em>Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard</em></a>, instead of creating humor from the conventions, it ironically relied on them for the core gameplay -- thus, creating a game that invariably could mock itself and was its own punchline. Hopefully, this time around <em>Hazard</em> will make the jokes instead of being one.<br />

As the final shopping days before Christmas begin to fly by, digital gift givers will have one more potential gift from <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a>. That gift is <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/0-day-attack-on-earth"><em>0 Day Attack on Earth</em></a> (at least it is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/14/square-enix-plans-0-day-attack-on-earth-for-dec-23/">according to Square Enix</a>). Quick description: It's a twin-stick shooter that uses real-world satellite imagery for its environments (we suppose that's the "earth" part). For a slightly longer description, you can check out our <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/10/01/hands-on-0-day-attack-on-earth-xbla/">hands-on with the game</a> at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this year. We don't want to spoil it for you, but we walked away less than impressed.<br />
<br />
We'll update this post as soon as Microsoft confirms this week's XBLA title and price.<br />

Despite its apocalyptic name, <em>Puzzlegeddon</em> sports an entirely cheery disposition, complete with lots of bright colors and bubbly music. The PC version previously received some <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/puzzlegeddon?q=puzzlegeddon">decent reviews</a>, and we've certainly been roped in by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/peggle">cute puzzle games</a> in the past.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;"><strong>Update:</strong> We've unearthed some screens of the PSP version, courtesy of <a href="http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20091207_333976.html">Game Watch</a>. There may be some difference between it and the XBLA version, but they'll <em>probably</em> look pretty similar. Peruse them in the gallery below.<br />

Microsoft's <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/12/07/this-week-on-arcade-qix.aspx">Major Nelson</a> has announced that <em>Qix ++</em> is headed to <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a> this week. Apart from the price (800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> / $10), that's really all we know. The "++" in the title <em>might</em> be a clue, though, given that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/poor-sales-of-space-giraffe-make-jeff-minter-sad/">Jeff "Why'd you buy Frogger" Minter</a> seems to have an affinity for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/20/minters-new-gridrunner-okd-by-microsoft-hitting-xbla-in-april/">throwing plus signs</a> at the end of retro game titles. It's also worth noting that Minter worked on the XBLA version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/space-invaders-extreme"><em>Space Invaders Extreme</em></a> which, like <em>Qix</em>, is a Taito (via Square Enix) game. For now, with no assets of the game available, you'll have to settle for a video of the original <em>Qix</em> posted after the break.<br />
<br />
In other news, the Xbox Live Deal of the Week is <em>Rock Band</em> DLC, specifically No Doubt's <em>The Singles 1992-2003</em> album. The DLC has been discounted from 1600<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($20) to 1200<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($15).<br />

According to one <a href="http://twitter.com/AceyBongos/statuses/6202128160">AceyBongos</a> -- think of him as Europe's Major Nelson -- this week's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a> game will be none other than <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-classic"><em>Call of Duty Classic</em></a>. Those who picked up the Hardened or Prestige editions of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/modern-warfare-2"><em>Modern Warfare 2</em></a> have already had the joy of ignoring their packed-in copy of the game, and now the <em>whole world</em> can ignore it! If, by some bizarre chance, you're just not into all this newfangled, <em>modern</em> warfare, <em>Call of Duty Classic</em> will set you back 1200<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($15).<br />
<br />
Again though, this message really only applies to the five people that aren't playing <em>Modern Warfare 2</em>.<br />

Just in case you've taken a few exceptionally hard tackles in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/12/madden-nfl-arcade-rushes-towards-early-thanksgiving-release/">the past couple of weeks</a>, we thought we'd remind you that this week's XBLA release is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/madden-nfl-arcade"><em>Madden NFL Arcade</em></a>, a five-on-five, backyard-rules take on EA Sports' darling. You'll be able to pick the game up just in time for your Thanksgiving celebrations for 1200<span class="album_title"><img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /></span> ($15). <br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Word has come down from on high, and <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/11/09/this-week-on-arcade-0d-beat-drop.aspx">this week's Xbox Live Arcade release</a> is none other than <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/0/0dbeatdropxbla/"><em>0D Beat Drop</em></a>. What's that, you've never heard of <em>0D Beat Drop</em>? Truth be told, neither have we. Thankfully, the game's Xbox.com page provides us all with the crucial details. If the above screenshot didn't tip you off, <em>OD Beat Drop</em> is a puzzle game; however, it has a musical twist, challenging players to drop pieces to the beat.<em> OD Beat Drop</em> can even analyze your own songs for use in the game (Protip: It's time to break out your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Tetris/"><em>Tetris</em></a> soundtrack). The game will be available this Wednesday for 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($10).<br /></div>

Here's hoping you <em>really </em>like <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/wallace-and-gromit"><em>Wallace &amp; Gromit</em></a> and, more specifically, Telltale's episodic <em>Wallace &amp; Gromit</em> games, because that's <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/11/02/this-week-on-arcade-3-episodes-of-wallace-amp-gromit.aspx">all you're getting</a> on <a href="http://xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a> this week. As promised, the final three episodes, <em>The Last Resort</em>, <em>Muzzled!</em> and <em>The Bogey Man</em> will all be dropping on XBLA this Wednesday, each priced at 800<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10). That brings the total for all four games to $40, which isn't too bad, although PC owners should be aware that Telltale is offering the entire season -- which includes a collector's DVD -- for $34.95 as well.<br />
<br />
Still, if you've got a yen for some couch-bound, Achievement-filled <em>Wallace &amp; Gromit</em>, it's a pretty good deal.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/this-wednesday-wallace-and-gromit-episodes-2-3-and-4-on-xbla/">This Wednesday: Wallace &amp; Gromit episodes 2, 3 and 4 on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Nov 2009 16:00:00 EST.
