Earlier this month, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/03/square-enix-likely-bringing-yosumin-live-to-xbla/">a number of screengrabs</a> for what appeared to be an Xbox Live Arcade port of Square Enix's popular portable puzzler, <em>Yosumin</em>, leaked out of various enthusiast press sites. If they looked legit, it's because they <em>totally were</em>. In a press release heralding the Japanese XBLA launch of <em>Crystal Defenders</em> (a port of a Squeenix mobile strategy game), the company <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3172455">revealed that its second Live Arcade project</a> would, in fact, be a port of the aforementioned portable puzzler, titled <em>Yosumin Live</em>.<br /><br />This is exciting news for block-swapping puzzle fans, but the real megaton comes later in the presser: "Beginning with these two games, Square Enix plans to release a steady stream of its popular titles -- as well as original content -- on Xbox LIVE Arcade." Try not to let your brain catch fire as you begin a marathon session of fevered speculation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/27/square-enix-confirms-yosumin-live-more-xbla-ports-on-the-way/">Square Enix confirms Yosumin Live, more XBLA ports on the way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Jan 2009 13:05:00 EST. Hot on the heels of the announcement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/square-enixs-crystal-defenders-to-defend-live-arcade/"><em>Crystal Defenders</em></a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbla">Xbox Live Arcade</a>, 1UP <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3172455">reveals</a> that Square Enix has still more planned for the download service. The next announced title will be <em>Yosumin Live</em>, a port of a Japanese puzzle game originally designed for the DS, which was first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/02/square-enix-to-bring-yosumin-live-to-the-xbla/">rumored</a> -- and more or less confirmed -- early this month. The game requires players to connect blocks of the same color diagonally, thus eliminating all the blocks in between. The further apart the two original block, the bigger the score. If it sounds confusing, you can check out a video of the original after the break.<br /><br />It looks like Square Enix isn't stopping there, as 1UP reports that the press release announces that the company plans to release "a steady stream of its popular titles -- as well as original content" on XBLA in the future. Exactly what these titles will be remains to be seen. It's possible Square Enix will draw from its catalog of mobile games or, dare we dream, even its catalog of RPGs.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/square-enix-prepares-steady-stream-of-titles-for-xbla/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Square Enix prepares "steady stream" of titles for XBLA</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/26/square-enix-prepares-steady-stream-of-titles-for-xbla/">Square Enix prepares "steady stream" of titles for XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Jan 2009 18:30:00 EST. Last November, Square Enix dropped <a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2007/09/07/the-actual-ds-version-of-yosumin/">a portable port of their web-based puzzler <em>Yosumin</em></a> on an unassuming Japan. Despite receiving middle-of-the-road reviews, it seems that Squeenix has decided to release an XBLA port of the game, titled <em>Yosumin Live</em>, as evidenced by a few screengrabs from <a href="http://rumblepack.wordpress.com/2008/12/30/lol-internet-imagens-de-yosumin-live-para-xbla-vazadas/">Portuguese site RumblePack</a> as well as <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/elephant/photo-m.phtml?post_key=116416">a few leaked screenshots from Destructoid</a>.<br /><br /><em>Yosumin</em>, for those not in the know, is a <em>Bejeweled</em>-esque title in which the player must clear similarly-shaped blocks by swapping them into rectangular formations. <a href="http://rumblepack.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/17a.jpg?w=450&amp;h=338">A screenshot clearly showing an "Achievements" tab</a> in the opening menu is the main evidence that the game is coming out on XBLA, though RumblePack claims <em>Yosumin Live</em> will make its move to the PSN shortly thereafter. There's no source given for said hypothesis, though -- we'll have to wait for word from Square Enix for further details.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/03/square-enix-likely-bringing-yosumin-live-to-xbla/">Square Enix likely bringing Yosumin Live to XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Jan 2009 18:30:00 EST. <div align="left">According to not so English and very foreign website <a href="http://rumblepack.wordpress.com/2008/12/30/lol-internet-imagens-de-yosumin-live-para-xbla-vazadas/">rumblepack</a> and more or less confirmed by the <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/square-enix-s-yosumin-live-headed-to-xbox-live-arcade-116416.phtml">Destructoid</a> crew, Square Enix's colorful puzzle game <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yosumin_DS"><em>Yosumin Live</em></a> will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade in the not to distant future. There's off-screen screengrabs as well as press assets to prove it, which can be viewed after the jump.<br /></div>

<br />Oh, and if you are <em>Yosumin </em>clueless, just think of it as puzzle game where you match up various symbols (that have adorable faces on 'em) in the shape of a rectangle. We're watching this one with interest, because if it's successful, Square Enix's DS offerings may begin to diversify further. Also it's cute.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/new-at-japanese-ds-stations-yosumin-winning-eleven/">New at Japanese DS stations: Yosumin, Winning Eleven</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2007 15:40:00 EST. Well, you only <em>played</em> it then. Now you can <em>look at it!</em> That's not as backwards as we made it sound, since these screens are of the real DS game and not a web demo.<br /><br />The "clearing rectangular areas" mechanic is a fresh take on your basic <em>Bejeweled</em>-esque "pile of blocks" puzzle game, we think. If this is marketed correctly (by which we mean <em>at all</em>), Square Enix could have a genuine casual hit on their hands. We enjoy the rainbow-tower progress indicator, by the way.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/07/the-actual-ds-version-of-yosumin/">The actual DS version of Yosumin</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Sep 2007 13:10:00 EST. Now, right here is where we'd link to the web-based game and tell you to try it out yourself and see what it's like, but we can't seem to find it. Oh, wait ... <a href="http://bp.gameonblog.com/jparts/game_color.html?game.swf?myMode=1&amp;myUrl=yosumin.swf&amp;myWidth=640&amp;myHeight=480">here it is</a>. We're devilish tricksters here at DS Fanboy.<br /><br />The game will be releasing in Japan on November 8th. It will also feature stylus controls and versus and license modes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/06/square-enix-to-puzzle-you-on-the-ds/">Square Enix to puzzle you on the DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Sep 2007 18:10:00 EST.
