"Hate" might be a strong word, but twice now he's thwarted my attempts to win the UFC Lightweight Championship title. While pummeling my way to 30 wins feels rewarding, my five losses (two from Penn) are an inescapable stain on my record. Falling from the #2 ranking to #7 is embarrassing. Between fights, I hit my limited opportunities to train hard, building up my submission and grappling defense with one goal in mind: to beat Penn and win the belt.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-heavyweight-roster/">UFC Undisputed 3 (Heavyweight Roster)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-heavyweight-roster/#4536874"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/antonionogueira_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-heavyweight-roster/#4536875"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/benrothwell_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-heavyweight-roster/#4536876"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/brendanschaub_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-heavyweight-roster/#4536877"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/brocklesnar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-heavyweight-roster/#4536878"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/cainvelasquez_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/13/ufc-undisputed-3-review-pride-fighting/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>UFC Undisputed 3 review: Pride Fighting</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/13/ufc-undisputed-3-review-pride-fighting/">UFC Undisputed 3 review: Pride Fighting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Feb 2012 19:00:00 EST. Pro wrestling has never been depicted as well as it has in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/wwe-12"><em>WWE '12</em></a>, a decidedly non-wrestling game. Sure, it's got "wrestling" embedded somewhere in its acronymic title, but <em>WWE '12</em> acts like a fighting game. In pro wrestling, the "other guy" in a match takes bumps, and helps dictate the pace of the bout. The video game versions of wrestling don't include blatant options to take falls. There is no intentional means of losing to give a low-card wrestler a "push."<br />
<br />
<em>WWE '12</em> continues the tradition of advancing the illusion of wrestling. Both as a video game and as an extension of the WWE product, it accomplishes that task exceedingly well.<br />

Though THQ originally assigned a January date to <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ufc-undisputed-3"><em>UFC Undisputed 3</em></a>, it went on to defy the name and dispute that ship date. During an investor call, CEO Brian Farrell revealed the new release date: February 14. It's a day for togetherness, after all, even if said togetherness involves a sleeper hold in the middle of an octagonal arena.<br />
<br />
Earlier today, THQ sent out media for "PRIDE Mode," featuring a roster of fighters from the PRIDE Fighting Championships, presumably battling over whose self-assuredness is most justified.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-pride-mode/">UFC Undisputed 3 (Pride Mode)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-pride-mode/#4578120"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ufcu36820akhiro-gono_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-pride-mode/#4578121"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ufcu36821anderson-silva_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-pride-mode/#4578122"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ufcu36822antonio-rodrigo-nogueira_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-pride-mode/#4578123"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ufcu36823antonio-rogerio-nogueira_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ufc-undisputed-3-pride-mode/#4578124"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/ufcu36824bob-sapp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/02/ufc-undisputed-3-definitely-shipping-february-14/">UFC Undisputed 3 definitely shipping February 14</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 18:00:00 EST. Don't think we can't see you out there, you UFC ultra-fan you. You're the guy with posters of Flint Ironstag and Bolt Vanderhuge all over your home gym. You're the guy with the octagon-shaped bed, the chain-link wallpaper and one of those old-timey uvula punching bags mounted in your shower. You <em>breathe</em> this stuff, and THQ knows it. That's why they've entrusted <em>you specifically</em> with the solemn duty of determining which fighter will grace the cover of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/UFC-Undisputed-3"><em>UFC Undisputed 3</em></a>.<br />
<br />
You've got between now and September 30 to <a href="http://www.ufc.com/ufcundisputed3">vote for one of five fighters</a>, so start blasting your core and jammin' on your quads now; that clickin' finger needs to be in peak physical condition. Once you've cast your ballot, you'll have the chance to win passes to a live UFC event, as if you didn't have season tickets already. Remember to always stretch properly before using the internet, and never vote on cover art without a spotter.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/28/you-yes-you-can-select-the-cover-athlete-for-ufc-undispute/">You -- yes you -- can select the cover athlete for UFC Undisputed 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 28 Aug 2011 21:30:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/thq">THQ</a> today updated its guidance for its first fiscal quarter in 2010, which ends June 30, as well as its entire fiscal 2010, ending March 30, 2011. Previously, the company had predicted non-GAAP first quarter net sales to be between $190 and $200 million. THQ has now lowered its first quarter guidance to between $155 and $165 million. The corresponding outlook for fiscal 2010 has been lowered from between $905 and $920 million to between $845 and $865 million.<br />
<br />
The culprit for the guidance shift? "Lower-than-anticipated sales of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ufc-undisputed-2010"><em>UFC Undisputed 2010</em></a>, and the strengthening dollar," according to THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell. Even though pre-orders were 50 percent higher than the 2009 iteration, noted Farrell, sell through of the 2.6 million shipped units has been "below [THQ's] expectations, and prior-year results."<br />
<br />
Farrell sated that THQ has "a strong pipeline scheduled for release over the next three years" and asked that "everyone" try out its offerings on the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/e3-2010">E3</a> show floor. Rockstar's western opus, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/red-dead-redemption"><em>Red Dead Redemption</em></a>, has saddled up and rode for first once again in the <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&amp;ct=110015">GFK Chart-Track</a> derby. Even though it's suffered a 40% drop in sales -- likely a byproduct of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/27/rockstar-hopes-to-solve-red-dead-redemption-uk-shortage-by-this/">those shortages</a> -- it was enough to best <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ufc-undisputed-2010"><em>UFC Undisputed 2010</em></a>, which debuted at second place. <br />
<br />
Also of note is the debut of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blur">Blur</a></em> at the 14th spot -- well below Black Rock Studio's previously released arcade racing rival <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/split-second">Split/Second</a> </em>(6th) and United Front Games' <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/modnation-racers">ModNation Racers</a></em> (12th).<br />

Develop magazine has published its latest <a href="http://www.develop100.com/">Develop 100</a>, a list of 100 video game developers ranked by the amount of money they made at UK retail. There's <a href="http://issuu.com/develop/docs/develop100_2010">a digital version of the whole book online</a>, but the list <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/features/873/Develop-100-2010-The-100-in-full">is available in quick-browse form</a> over on the website, and there are plenty of big industry names. Nintendo has topped the list -- it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/nintendo-tops-2007s-develop-100-list/">did the same thing</a> a few years ago before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/11/blizzard-tops-list-of-2008s-most-successful-game-devs/">Blizzard stole the No. 1 spot</a> last time around (down to No. 80 this year).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/infinity-ward">Infinity Ward</a>, a development house whose best days <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/26/more-infinity-ward-staffers-leave-join-respawn/">may be behind it</a>, sits at No. 2. The biggest surprise in the top 10 may be <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/yukes">Yuke's</a> at No. 9, the company behind <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuke%27s">a long history of wrestling titles</a> and creators of the popular <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ufc-undisputed-2010"><em>UFC Undisputed</em></a> line. It's been around this list before, though, having reached as high as No. 8 a few years ago. Midway Newcastle is on the list at No. 90, despite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/14/midway-newcastle-drains-the-moat-shuts-down/">having shut down</a> last year.<br />
<br />
The US claims both the most studios on the list (40 percent) as well as the most profit earned (&pound;484.78 million). And, in general, profits are up from previous years -- Nintendo itself is making about &pound;70 million more than it did the last time it was in first place. Remember, these are all UK totals, but Develop has worked hard to make a fairly representative list of worldwide developers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/11/nintendo-once-again-tops-the-develop-100/">Nintendo once again tops the Develop 100</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 May 2010 21:30:00 EST. Admittedly, <a href="http://www.icemanmma.com/">Chuck Liddell</a> is our second favorite "Iceman" -- <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iceman_%28comics%29">Bobby Drake's</a> mutant powers and frosty quips make him slightly more endearing to video game nerds like us. But the UFC fighter has his charms as well. Not only is he the winning coach on this season of <em>The Ultimate Fighter</em> reality show, but here he is in a promo video for the upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ufc-undisputed-2010" aiotitle="UFC Undisputed 2010" aiotarget="false"><em aiotitle="UFC Undisputed 2010">UFC Undisputed 2010</em></a> game, schooling all of us pushovers on what it takes to win in the Octagon.<br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/THQ/"> THQ</a> announced earlier this year that it planned to release a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/07/ufc-undisputed-2010-demos-fighters-and-modes-detailed/">UFC Undisputed 2010</a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/07/ufc-undisputed-2010-demos-fighters-and-modes-detailed/"> demo</a> a few months prior to the game's May 25 launch. Now, according to the game's <a href="http://community.ufcundisputed.com/blog-post/welcome-new-ufc-undisputed-community">community website</a>, it looks like certain UFC fans will be getting an early crack at the demo. The community site relaunched last week, announcing some new perks for registered members, including early access to the demo. According to a <a href="http://community.ufcundisputed.com/blog-post/re-registration-and-forgotten-passwords">recent post</a>, the demo is expected late this week, so you'd best get registered if you want in on the big, sweaty man-fight action.<br />

One of the main things an annualized franchise must do is convince its fans that the tweaks made to each successive sequel are really worth getting hyped about. After an impressive debut with last year's <em>UFC Undisputed 2009</em>, Yuke's and THQ have a lot to prove with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ufc-undisputed-2010"><em>2010</em></a>. This video highlights some of the key improvements made to the gameplay engine, notably the addition of "sways," dodges that allow fighters to quickly counter-attack.<br />
<br />
Other improvements to the combat engine involve utilizing the cage in both offensive and defensive maneuvers. The submission system has also been improved, with a more dynamic camera that focuses on the limbs that are being worked on. It's meant to be more "visceral," a trait that's pretty important in a game all about dudes<em> beating each other up</em>. For UFC fans, we wonder if these improvements are worth another purchase this year?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/01/sway-into-this-new-ufc-undisputed-2010-trailer/">Sway into this new UFC Undisputed 2010 trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Apr 2010 04:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/flower"><em><strong>Flower</strong></em></a><br />
This year had a number of terrific downloadable games (this list is a testament to that), however no game -- retail or digital -- connected with me like <em>Flower</em>. Jenova Chen's <em>flOw</em> was an interesting experiment, but Flower is an <em>actual</em> game. In fact, <em>Flower</em> is one of the few experiences I can think of that show the true potential of games as a unique storytelling medium. No other non-interactive art form will ever be able to replicate what thatgamecompany has managed to create.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-andrews-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Andrew's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-andrews-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Andrew's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Jan 2010 21:00:00 EST. Other than a recent countdown offered by THQ, we haven't heard much about the publisher's next effort in its longtime wrestling franchise, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wwe-smackdown-vs-raw-2010/"><em>WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010</em></a>. Today though, THQ announced an October 20 release date for the game, along with a clear marketing push towards online play.<br />
<br />
Nelo Lucich, a senior VP at licensor JAKKS Pacific, leads the charge, saying, "The vast array of creative and online options allow players the ability to create their own unique Superstars, right down to their tattoos and customized ring gear." He goes on to tout the game's "Community Creations interface" and other options for online play, remaining confident. And maybe he should be, considering the game's October release now has a much better chance of standing out in a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/delays">delay-riddled holiday season</a> than ever before.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/24/wwe-smackdown-vs-raw-2010-dated-detailed/">WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 dated, detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Aug 2009 20:30:00 EST. We know <em>exactly</em> what the <a href="http://www.smackdownvsraw.com/">countdown</a> is <em>for</em> -- <em>WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010</em> -- and, since it's an annual sports franchise, we don't really expect <em>surprises</em>. But there it is, counting down three days until we'll see the roster, media, downloads, list of features, and other areas of what promises to be a bog-standard game website.<br />
<br />
Of course, the big attraction here is <em>what the new game will look like</em>. However, since <em>that</em> was <a href="http://us.thq.com/us/gamenews/show/7793/5338/WWE%C2%AE%20SmackDown%C2%AE%20vs.%20Raw%C2%AE%202010">revealed</a> on <em>Late Night With Jimmy Fallon</em>, that leaves ... the downloads? <em>Who </em>will appear on the downloadable desktop wallpaper.<strong> FIND OUT</strong> in three days!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/17/thq-begins-a-countdown-to-smackdown/">THQ begins a countdown to Smackdown</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Aug 2009 21:00:00 EST. It looks as though two more will join PS3's esteemed Greatest Hits lineup. GameStop has recently dropped the price of both <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=70967"><em>Smackdown vs RAW 2009</em></a> and <em>Saints Row 2</em> to the standard Greatest Hits price of $29.99. The addition of these two titles will boost the number of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sony_Greatest_Hits_games">PS3 Greatest Hits games</a> to over 20.<br />

This week's star of the show is undoubtedly WiiWare, which receives the very rare "three-title-update." Playing second and third fiddle are DSiWare and the Virtual Console, which both get the usual one new title. So, without further ado, let's check out what's available to download this week across Nintendo platforms in the latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendoware-weekly">NintendoWare Weekly</a>.<br />

Hey, UFC fighters. Over here. Would you like to avoid appearing in a video game <em>without</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/21/ufc-fires-fighters-for-not-signing-video-game-image-rights-away/">getting fired</a>? We have the solution for you: Stop cutting your hair. According to <a href="http://www.fightmagazine.com/"><em>Fight!</em></a> magazine (via <a href="http://www.5thround.com/05212009/news/3459/clay-guida-removed-from-ufc-undisputed-2009-because-of-hair/">5thround.com</a>), UFC fighter Clay Guida was cut from <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ufc-2009-undisputed"><em>UFC 2009: Undisputed</em></a> because his trademark shaggy locks were causing clipping problems and creating issues with collision detection. THQ supposedly offered Guida money to trim his hair so that he could be included in the game, an offer Guida seemingly refused.<br /><br />We applaud Guida for not (essentially) selling his hair to THQ, but come on, he had to be cut <em>because of his hair</em>? We've been telling everyone that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/evasive-space"><em>Evasive Space</em></a> is kind of like a shmup, without all of the <em>sh</em>-ing. Today, we've got two new games. On the WiiWare side, there's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/evasive-space"><em>Evasive Space</em></a>, which is a shmup without all of the shooting. Then, on the Virtual Console, we've got ... a shmup. Man, they sure love flooding the Wii with shmups. If you want to try <em>Evasive Space </em>for free, remember <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/02/12/joyswag-evasive-space-wiiware/">we're giving it away</a> for a few more hours. <br /><br /><strong>WiiWare</strong><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/evasive-space"><em>Evasive Space</em></a> <span>(Yukes Company of America, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Fantasy Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Players take on the role of Konki the Stellar Guardian, who is charged with recovering stolen Constellation Stones that make up the heavens. Dr. Dark Matter and his space thieves have nabbed them, and players must navigate </span><span>20 dangerous time- and collection-based missions to get them back. Check out some screens in our gallery below.<br /><br /></span><strong>Virtual Console</strong><br /><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Force_(arcade_game)"><em>Life Force</em></a> <span>(NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): </span>An arcade shmup ported to the NES in 1988, players must navigate the inside of a giant alien that is infected by a strain of bacteria, shooting down enemies and grabbing power-ups when they can.<br /><br />There's also a weird sort of riddle that Nintendo included in the press release this week. Find it after the break.

It <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/09/evasive-space-dodges-december-aims-for-january/">didn't make it to us in January</a> as hoped, but a press release just hit our inbox, asking us to pass along the information that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/evasive-space"><em>Evasive Space</em></a>, the game that Yuke's and High Voltage have been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/high-voltage-yukes-collaborating-on-evasive-space/">collaborating</a> on, is going to be available to download on February 16 for 1,000 Wii Points. A bit pricey? Sure, but for such an interesting and unique game (it's a shmup without all of the, uh, <em>shmupping</em>), we're willing to shell out and give it a try. That's ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/wii-fanboy-review-protothea/">great</a>. Actually, Yuke's/High Voltage's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/19/evasive-space-screens-fail-at-evading-our-attention/"><em>Evasive Space</em></a> appears to have a somewhat novel control scheme, in which the pointer actually controls the direction of your flight and not just the direction of your shots. <br /><br />Oh, and also there aren't any shots. So really it's not much of a shooter. Instead, it's a collection of various timed (or time trial) challenges ranging from rescuing floating spacemen to navigating mazes to searching for items. All with nary a <em>pew, pew </em>or <em>pew</em> to be found!<br /><br />If this sounds intriguing to you, have a look at IGN's pile of videos (accessible in the sidebar of the embedded video or <a href="http://media.wii.ign.com/media/142/14298368/vids_1.html">here</a>) and check out their written impressions as well. It's apparently due out sometime in December or January for 1,000 Wii Points.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/05/evasive-space-theres-a-reason-its-not-called-confrontational/">Evasive Space: there's a reason it's not called Confrontational Space</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Dec 2008 09:00:00 EST. <br />The first shots of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/high-voltage-yukes-collaborating-on-evasive-space/"><em>Evasive Space</em></a> invaded our inbox earlier today, and apparently things get quite ... <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/evasive-space/1169008/">trippy</a></em> in the Yuke's/High Voltage collaboration. Not <a href="http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r37/thexboxdomain/spacegiraffe.jpg">Jeff Minter</a> levels of trippy, but still pretty <em>out there</em> in parts. The game itself, which will cost 1000 Wii Points, seems to be a mix of open play shmupping (as seen in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/05/more-geometry-wars-on-the-wii-is-a-possibility/"><em>Geometry Wars</em></a>) and more linear, contained areas.<br /><br />The screens in our gallery are drawn from the first two of the game's four acts, each of which will contain five scenarios to play through. In turn, these come in two types: either you'll be doing timed runs, or you'll be collecting stuff (spacemen, energy cells) while avoiding other stuff (asteroids, gas clouds). It's brave of Yuke's and High Voltage to release a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shmup">shmup</a> on a system overflowing with the things, but we like what we see so far! Hit up the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/evasive-space/1169063/">gallery</a> and tell us what you think.<br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/19/evasive-space-screens-fail-at-evading-our-attention/">Evasive Space screens fail at evading our attention</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Nov 2008 15:36:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/high-voltage">High Voltage</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/yukes">Yuke's</a> are combining their considerable powers to bring us <em>Evasive Space</em>, a brand new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/wiiware/">WiiWare</a> title, in January. Appropriately, screens or footage of the game have evaded us so far, aside from a slightly natty logo. Yes, we know you like posts to have pretty pictures, because we like those too, but that's the cruel, harsh reality of life for you.<br /><br />We have some details, though, even if they are merely <em>word-based</em>. <em>Evasive Space</em> will be a "top-down shooter," one with twenty missions and a pilot called Konki, whose ship players will control with the infrared pointer capabilities of the Wiimote. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/neverland-card-battles"><em>Neverland Card Battles</em></a> merges the strategy-RPG genre with the core gameplay mechanics of a trading card game. It's a card game first, an SRPG second, and this is clearly evident after having played and finished the title this past week. We know that a good number of our readers have read our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/psp-fanboy-hands-on-neverland-card-battles/">preview</a> from last month and have kept interest in the title. With the game releasing today, we know you all want to know: what's the final verdict? Read on after the break to find out.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/psp-fanboy-review-neverland-card-battles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSP Fanboy review: Neverland Card Battles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/psp-fanboy-review-neverland-card-battles/">PSP Fanboy review: Neverland Card Battles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Oct 2008 13:30:00 EST. Lesser wrestling fans may find it difficult to decide which version of the annual <em>WWE Smackdown vs. Raw</em> game to get this year, but the choice should be made easy for true rasslin' aficionados. THQ just announced a Collector's Edition for <em><a href="http://ps3fanboy.com/tag/wwe">WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009</a></em>, and it's exclusive to the PS3. <br />
<br />
The Collector's Edition includes an extra Blu-ray disc with "<span class="ccbnTxt">a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the videogame, as well as more than two hours of WWE footage."</span> The North American version with have a "steel cage packaging," while Europe and Asia will get their bundle in a mini-ring -- because you're not hardcore enough to step into a steel cage, son. The press release was shy on a price unfortunately; however, with a Sunday, November 9 release so close, we should have that info soon enough.<br />

If you are familiar with Yuke's, you may think that "twist" is <em>wrasslin'</em>, but thankfully it isn't (though that has been <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Crush_Hour">tried</a>). Instead, <em>BPM Racing</em> is a rhythm-racing game.<br /><br />We aren't exactly sure how this works, but you'll synchronize your driving (in some way) to the rhythm of the soundtrack to increase your speed, handling, and score. Players will also be able to add "their own samples and effects to various soundtracks." <br /><br />Yuke's Company's Ken Koyama said in the press release that "The racing genre is ripe for a new, innovative direction and increasing the aural experience seemed like an obvious choice." To be honest, even if it doesn't work, we already appreciate this. The best thing about downloadable games is that it allows developers to create extremely risky games based on outrageous ideas without having to worry too much about their businesses dying if the games don't sell.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/yukes-announces-bpm-racing-for-wiiware/">Yuke's announces BPM Racing for WiiWare</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 14:34:00 EST. It is refreshing to see a game like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/neverland-card-battles"><em>Neverland Card Battles</em></a> hitting the PSP. It's a title that blends together two very distinct strategy genres: tradable card games and strategy RPGs. It may sound a tad strange at first, having these two gameplay aspects merging as one, but that's what we're here for. We're here to help explain to you just how exactly that experience plays out and what it was like going through it all. Was it any fun? You'll find out soon enough.<br /><br />Having played the title just this afternoon, I immediately went through the very first level to get a quick grasp of the story and basic play mechanics. The game plays out on an S-RPG type of battle grid with the enemy card wielder on one side and the hero Galahad on the other. The objective of all <em>Neverland</em> battles is to obviously defeat your opponent, and to do so you'll have a 30-card deck at your disposal. At the beginning of each battle you'll have a full hand of five cards (see where the TCG is starting to kick in?), and to use these cards you'll have to draw mana. Drawing mana is done by increasing one's "territory" on the battle grid. As you move your character (and later on summoned creatures) across the playing field, they'll turn each square they touch into your team's color -- this represents your territory. Each square equals one mana and dictates your overall summoning strength, so it's crucial to take command over the battlefield in order to win. <br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/psp-fanboy-hands-on-neverland-card-battles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSP Fanboy hands-on: Neverland Card Battles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/psp-fanboy-hands-on-neverland-card-battles/">PSP Fanboy hands-on: Neverland Card Battles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 19:00:00 EST. Can you say no to a face like that? Of course not! Yukes' upcoming <em>Neverland Card Battles</em> for PSP is (surprise, surprise) a card-based SRPG coming out in October. Once again, these anime heroes will have to embark on a journey with magical cards in hand to save Neverland from impending doom (insert dramatic music here, please).<br /><br />Check out the characters in our updated gallery:<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/look-at-the-characters-of-neverland-card-battles/">Look at the characters of Neverland Card Battles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 17:00:00 EST. PSP really is THE system for SRPG fans, with classics like <em>Disgaea</em> and <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> taking center stage last year. This year, the trend continues with <em>R-Type Tactics</em> and now ... <em>Neverland Card Battles</em>. Coming this Fall, this SRPG comes from the folks at YUKES (with distribution being handled by Atlus).<br /><br />A war between human and demons wages on in Neverland, and players must control the Dominators to prevent an evil god from awakening. By using special Spectral Cards, players will be able to banish the evil Hellgaia and save Neverland from certain doom.<br /><br />"The original Japanese version of Neverland Card Battles was extremely well-received and caught our attention as the best trading card game out there," said Ken Koyama, Manager of Product Development at YUKE'S Company of America. "We have enhanced and optimized NCB for the portable experience, and will offer one of the finest card-strategy games ever created for the PSP this fall."<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/neverland-card-battles-brings-even-more-srpg-action-to-psp-this/">Neverland Card Battles brings even more SRPG action to PSP this Fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Aug 2008 14:00:00 EST. It looks like we were in for a surprise on the Xbox Live Arcade after all. Available now for download are three new Arcade titles -- well, two and a half.<br /><br />First up is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Coffeetime-Crosswords/">Coffeetime Crosswords</a></em>, a crossword puzzle game with over 150 puzzles. <em>Coffeetime Crosswords</em> features a co-op mode for up to 2 players (local only) to work together to solve difficult puzzles. Coffeetime Crosswords is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/xbla-this-week-commando-3-and-frogger-2/">another stellar Konami release</a>, weighs in at 42MB and is priced at 800MS points.<br /><br /><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Double-D-Dodgeball/">Double D Dodgeball</a></em> from Yukes is a dodgeball game (Sup, powers of deduction?). Featuring up to 4 players locally or 8 players online, <em>D-triple</em> is described as a retro-style dodgeball game. The tiny 17MB download is also priced at 800MS points. Originally <em>D-triple</em> was scheduled to hit the XBLA on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/double-d-dodgeball-coming-to-xbla-july-30/">July 30</a>, so either it was pushed forward, released by accident or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-bungie-net-revealed-countdown-cancelled/">something secret was supposed to release but was postponed</a>.<br /><br />Lastly is the <em>EA Fantasy Football Live Draft Tracker</em>, which isn't exactly an Arcade game, per se. The <em>Tracker</em> acts as the middle man between EA's online fantasy leagues. Using the tracker commissioners who host league drafts offline and in-person can import your fantasy league settings. Once settings are established, players can select their picks with the tool and then upload completed drafts to their online accounts on <a href="http://FANTASY.EASPORTS.COM">EA's Fantasy Sports</a> website. The tracker is priced at 400MS points.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/xbla-double-d-dodgeball-coffeetime-crosswords-and-live-draft-tra/">XBLA: Double D Dodgeball, Coffeetime Crosswords &amp; Live Draft Tracker</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 09:00:00 EST. <br />Tired of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/gaming-to-go-meteos/">blocks</a> yet?<br /><br />Thinking of expanding your horizons a little? Perhaps you need more from the gaming life than just a few simple squares. Perhaps you want...<em>shapes?</em><span style="font-style: italic;"><br /></span><br />Good news! <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/26/neves-of-steel-required-to-play-this-puzzle-game/"><em>NEVES</em></a> has them. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/18/neves-its-seven-backwards/">Seven</a> of them, in fact, which is enough to create like <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">a jabillion</span> 500 different puzzles. You, dear reader, can have these pointy shapes too. There's this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/18/neves-its-seven-backwards/">demo</a> thing freely available on the net, or you can dig a little deeper in your pockets and shell out two tens for the real deal.<br /><br />Yuke's puzzler takes classic Chinese tangrams into the modern realm with great success. Solving one of the many short brain teasers in <span style="font-style: italic;">NEVES</span> is an experience decidedly different from a typical video game, emphasizing peaceful thinking over sweaty palms and razor-sharp reflexes.<br /><br />Sound appealing? If gaming breaks are the only way you stay sane, <span style="font-style: italic;">NEVES</span> might be just what you need to unwind. Come along with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/Gaming-to-Go/">Gaming to Go</a> and see for yourself why a relatively unknown title in the DS library is one worth checking out!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/neves/">NEVES</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/neves/#909399"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/neves_g2g_mad_0709_00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/neves/#327001"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/dsf_neves07-26ak_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/neves/#327002"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/dsf_neves07-26ak_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/neves/#326999"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/dsf_neves07-26ak_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/neves/#327003"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/dsf_neves07-26ak_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/gaming-to-go-neves/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Gaming to Go: NEVES</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/10/gaming-to-go-neves/">Gaming to Go: NEVES</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 10:15:00 EST. So, the question we have to ask ourselves now is, "Should we care?"<br /><br />Let's do pros and cons. Pro: Yuke's Future Media Creators is a really wonderful name for a video game company. Cons: The gameplay-free trailer above is really terrible and <em>DDD</em> is competing against another dodgeball game that<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pirates-vs-ninjas/"> pits pirates against ninjas</a>. Well, that equals one pro and two cons ... looks like you can begin the forgetting about <em>Double D Dodgeball</em> process whenever you're ready.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/double-d-dodgeball-coming-to-xbla-on-july-30/">Double D Dodgeball coming to XBLA on July 30</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Jun 2008 09:10:00 EST.
