Joystiq impressions: LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Six episodes, one disc. LucasArts is combining its hit LEGO Star Wars games into one package, and to rope in fans of the series who already picked it up, they've added new content -- levels, characters, features and modes. The House that George Built showed off some of the new improvements of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga this week at the E3 summit.

We first saw the PlayStation 3 build of the game, with improved visuals and great lighting techniques. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will have drop-in online co-op, much like their current offline co-op mode. So now your South African BFF can be invited to join you halfway through the Battle of Hoth.

Unique to the PS3 version are motion controls using the Sixaxis pad. We were shown one space battle scene over a Star Destroy where the controls were used to maneuver a TIE Defender. Given the graphical details, we actually forgot for a moment that this was a LEGO game.

The Wii version is quite a visible downgrade, made more noticeable by our quick transition from PS3 to the Nintendo console. It does, however, use the Wii remote to somewhat answer our Jedi geek dreams: motion controlled lightsaber action. Using the buttons are still viable, but the faster you swing the remote, the faster you attack. That speed can easily exceed what is possible using the buttons, which is your incentive for embracing the motion controls.

As for the Xbox 360, when asked what would be unique to that version, a representative aptly replied "achievements," followed by some awkward silence in the room. The Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of The Complete Saga are due out this fall.

What about the wioi version. Other sites have reported that the wii version uses the wii remote as a lightsaber. Not one to one but pretty good :)

And for the people who can read more than three paragraphs, so does this article.

Now, does the author of this article know what a TIE Defender is? Because if his story is accurate, I might just have to re-buy this game...because that is my favorite all-time Star Wars fighter, just ahead of the Chiss clawcraft and the good old X-wing. As long as Traveller's Tales is making this and they don't mess up the ship's awesomeness, I wanty.

I wonder if this will mean you'll be able to play as Darth Maul and fight Darth vader from Ep 5 level. That would be kinda of interesting.

I didn't see anything in there about Wii online play. I assume that'll be standard since it's on for the PS3. Man, I'm gonna hafta buy me a Wii now after reading about the lightsaber stuff! Sheesh! Anyone know if Ben Heckendorn has built a portable Wii laptop, yet?

as a gamer i would rather have achievmenets then silly motion controls from the other 2 systems. And the xbox one is graphically enhanced just like the ps3 one, so its only missing that six axis tilt stuff. Which is boring anyway. The wii is by far the worst version, with crappy graphics and no online play.
