Thank god for these people. I don't know how long it's going to take but the USA NEEDS a game rating system which is legally backed. Right now it is perfectly legal for a child to purchase Manhunt 2.

If I was American I'd vote for Hillary based on her track record of trying to get something done about the Mickey Mouse organisation that is the ESRB.

Well I'm glad you're not American.
The government has NO right to tell me what games I can buy.
Anyways, what ever happened to parents, you know, parenting?

No one is saying that adults shouldn't be allowed to buy the games - if a legally backed system existed all it would prevent would be unsupervised children buying the games which is a much needed law in my opinion.

OK, so we get this "legally backed" system. I buy halo for my 10 year old, because I don't find the content objectionable for him. He talks about it to his friends at school, who tells his parents, who don't approve of my parenting decision and "thinking of the children" call a social worker.

Now I'm in deep legal shit because my rights as a parent have been hijacked by the nanny state. I could wind up in jail, my other parenting moves are now under scrutiny of a social worker who more likely than not disagrees with a conservative form of parenting, and my wife and I are suddenly at risk of having our child taken away by the state.

See what you're advocating there?

This is why I hate rockstar/take two some times. They make a game that is, by all accounts, CRAP, and they make sure to push the limits so far that politicians can use it in an attempt to stomp all over our rights.

Yes, I'm sure it's the ESRB's fault, and not the parents. Remember a year or two ago when the ESRB was a model of self-policing, and highly lauded by the government? Election years suck.

Having said all of that, Manhunt has no artistic value whatsoever, so I could care less if noone is allowed to buy it.

This sort of goes back to what alot of Rockstar/Take-Two's critics have said. They seem to be the only one making these damn games, and yet they just sit back and play dumb while the ESRB takes all the heat. With GTAIV coming out in March, and the election in November, don't expect this to get any better. Hilary probably doesn't even know GTAIV exists yet, but she knows enough about gaming to introduce a bill into congress that fines retailers for selling copies to minors. Meanwhile, Hollywood can let 12 year old kids in to see Hostel, and kids can go to google and do a search for "tits" with the safesearch turned off all day long and the Government could care less.

This sure is one ass-backwards world we live in. I think we need to face it. Video Games are going to be the subject of alot of finger pointing for the next year. The liberals are at it, and they need a platform to run on to get all those semi-conservative mothers to jump on board the democrat train for the next four years. Go ahead ladies, let Oprah/Hilary lead you into battle. Afterall, it's not your fault your son beat that kid up at school. It's the video games. They should know better than to put a sticker on a game that says "M for Mature" and "Life-like Violence and Blood" on that toy that you bought him last week to keep him busy while you catch up on your soaps.

Why are parents so ignorant?

so i'm hoping kucinich(1st choice) and his hot wife win the dnc and ron paul(2nd) get the gop. its a win/win

That's why I would vote for Stephen Colbert for President. He wouldn't ban the game, he would just tell you that you're a moron for not be playing Mass Effect, Mario Galaxy or Ratchet & Clank instead.

A quote from him about truth that I think is fitting here:

"Truthiness is tearing apart our country, and I don't mean the argument over who came up with the word. I don't know whether it's a new thing, but it's certainly a current thing, in that it doesn't seem to matter what facts are. It used to be, everyone was entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts. But that's not the case anymore. Facts matter not at all. Perception is everything. It's certainty. People love the president because he's certain of his choices as a leader, even if the facts that back him up don't seem to exist. It's the fact that he's certain that is very appealing to a certain section of the country. I really feel a dichotomy in the American populace. What is important? What you want to be true, or what is true?"

What gets my goat the most is these people don't do their jobs. And to draw our attention away from them screwing us, they talk about video games and baseball players who can legally take performance enhancing drugs from the local drug store. Those athletes still have a stronger moral code.

"We don't want you playing violent video games, no matter how old you are, unless it's America's Army!"

"America's Army is the most awesomest evar! You can tell this from the advertisements in every video game magazine known to man, sports illustrated for kids, and Nickelodeon magazine."

Meanwhile we cackle in our lairs while we remove controls from foriegn goods to protect American jobs, spend $3 billion a day on a war Americans don't want in a country whose people haven't harmed us, and send our troops and Iraqi civillians to either their deaths or PTSD. For Realz! Cause games are BADD!!!

And opening your stupid mouth about video games, when it's us who can make or break you. You seem to forget, there are millions of us out there. And a good precentage of us are of voting age.

I'm pretty sure that's the ultimate act of treason, but perhaps our definitions do differ.

If you consider standing up to the Government to protect our Constitution (that the President and all soldiers take an oath to defend) is treason, then you might as well leave the country because America was founded on it.

Hey! This is being posted twice, once to a post of yours, once to a post of mine, so, I'm posting it here so you can see it, and get alerted, but posting it there because thats where it originally was >_>

--
Small note about something you said as just a side cut, about the Bush tax cuts, now, it actually did help my family at least, so thats my experience with it. I'm not from some rich family either, of course there were many tax cuts I believe and not all effected anyone.

And Yes there are 40 million or whatnot uninsured Americans that don't have health care, but what we provide them School, help with college, so many things to gain a education, many of the people choose to pass up, like kids dropping out of school just because they don't like it, and then when adults they can't pay for healthcare because they don't have a good job, which they could have gotten if they had worked hard when younger. I'll admit that some places are rather... difficult to gain a higher education in but there are many people who you hear come from horrible places that end up succeeding and living a great life.

Funny that you mention Cuba, it yes, has WONDERFUL healthcare, but at what expense. If you live in Cuba, what do you own? Your house, no, your car, not really, any jewelry, not at all. The more you supply your people the less you truly have. Of course I believe you understand this part since you tend to talk more of Europe and Canada. So Maybe this part was pointless to write, hah.

I can say that ours is better, the for-profit system is what drives one doctor to be better then another! One person to innovate medicine the fastest! Around where I live there are clinics that don't deal with insurance, they just charge $35 per normal visit, thats it, the doctors work there and do their best to keep their customer for a low price, they get the money directly, work hard, and don't have to deal with insurance company's. Truly that is what is the best medical system. People competing to be the best at the lowest price. For profit is what drives innovation.

Europe may also have good healthcare, but how high are their taxes? I mean, if I lived there, I'm sure my family wouldn't have nearly as much because of how much more we would be taxed. Having money to spend as I will it I believe is a freedom, that things like socialized medicine can take away. The freedom to chose what I do with my money that I worked for is very, very important to me.

One thing I don't understand is how people can be so... self righteous, in a way, as to feel that its fine to destroy peoples life work, and by that I mean the people who run Health care companies. (That sentence is not meant to offend in any way, just couldn't think of a better way to phrase it. hah) How do they put profit and greed in front of health, the better care they provide, the more they help, the more money they get, tends to be how things work. Cheating peple out of their money never has been a way to make money, and the healthcare companies aren't stupid enough to do it. With as many as they are, if one is bad, people move to another and it will fail.

Moving on... How is helping a country like Iraq a waste that will have zero benefit to our society? Last I checked getting rid of people who find it fine to kill us for disagreeing with them seems like a pretty good way to protect society. And Everyone then brings up how long we've been there, yeah, but how long were we in Japan? And the middle east is in worse shape, if we were in Japan for almost 10 years, and were still there for a long time, then why does helping another country have to end so soon? The best way to make a friend is to help them, and I believe that helping them set up a working government, and making the place run by rules, not fear, will be a great help to them, and in turn have them eventually help us.

If I was in the Pharmaceutical industry I would too be terrified of the socialized healthcare industry. My goodness. By doing that you destroy private research for new medicines, and then any work on drugs is handled not by business, who once again compete, but by a government and people who have no incentive to work faster.

I've mentioned a few time that competition will always make things work better, but just to cite something, lets look at school teachers. Lots of crappy teachers out there, school system not doing too good I say. Why? Well, because there are bad teachers. Why? Well, why should they bother to really work hard to get students grades up, they get paid the same anyway. If it was made so the better teachers get paid more, like many competitive things, there would be alot more good teachers because then they would work hard at it in order to get more money.

Hmm, I don't have much else to say. I'm gonna post this as a reply to my comment, but then reply it to you're comment thats on here so you get a notice... quite interesting things.

But just as a final note, I don't expect to change a opinion of yours, I merely wish to state mine. Why? Because its really really hard to change a opinion, people have values that they live by, and dang is it hard to change those, and nothing someone says on the Internet is gonna shake them for the most part, I'd assume..
