James Cameron drops Avatar game details, everything ever about the movie

As for the game, Cameron notes Avatar has been in development for two years and will attempt to break free of the "bad movie game" stigma. In Avatar, players will enter the world of Pandora -- a moon around a gas planet. According to Cameron's lengthy presentation, the team at Ubisoft is committed to making Avatar the first major stereoscopic 3-D title. In the game, players may choose to adopt a Navi perspective during certain events of the game. Although details were slim (unlike Cameron's screen time), Ubisoft promises new details for the game will land sometime tomorrow.

Also, he went on FOREVER. It was like pouring a cold bucket of water over a conference that was already like a cold bucket of water all over E3.

Dear Lord can he taaaaalk.
Not only that but they forgot to show footage of the game.
DarkTetsuya @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:04AM
You mean his 'OMG you have to SEE this game' accounts weren't enough?
But yeah I want those 30 minutes of my life back. :(

His speech went on a little too long but I totally hate to say this but... I'm getting that Avatar game the day it comes out. I'm so interested in the thought of finally playing a fully stereoscopic title.
Obie @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:06AM
Jim Cameron is a brilliant director, but I rather watch the film than play the game.

Listening to James Cameron was like being on the Titanic: everything started out really cool and interesting, with lots of hope and promise thinking about the end of the journey. Then you notice that the ship isn't going anywhere and it is sinking horrifically slow, so you just sit there and wait for the freezing waters to end your unfortunate life.
This man has some serious lung capacity.

he could survive those arctic waters
Markusdragon @ Jun 2nd 2009 5:20PM
It was worse than that. It was like being on a school trip sitting in an IMAX with no leg room, watching a headache inducing 3D James Cameron documentary about the Titanic with him droning on (in stereoscopic vision) for hours about the ship, whilst you know very well that in another part of the same building there's an exhibition going on with classic arcade games projected onto a wall-sized screen available for anyone to play.
Dammit Cameron, you son of a bitch, you gave me flashbacks to high school!
Jovrick @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:13AM
He went on forever but at least he seems to give a crap about games. I’m so used to video games being looked down upon that it seemed pretty cool that Spielberg and Cameron actually have an interest in them as an art form.
Rein @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:24AM
Don't forget that Ringo Starr thinks the graphics on The Beatles RockBand is GRRRREEEAT!
Chhem316 @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:38AM
pele went on forever too
Sidebuster @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:47AM
Yeah, most of the Ubisoft keynote was nothing but jabbering on. Although, I did enjoy James Camerons speach; just for the fact that he had something interesting to say.
green11420 @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:00AM
He did drag on a bit, but if he didn't talk about it, I would go on ignoring the movie for a long time before I figured out that it has nothing to do with that cartoon series. Now I'm really excited for it! Sounds very promising. They seem to really care about making the game at the same level of quality as the movie, which is much appreciated.
PN04 @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:42AM
yeah Jim Cameron has "Avatar" about Bruce Willis living his live though androids, while M. Knight Shamalannianom is doing "Avatar: the last Air bender" Might be a little confusing if they come out too close to each other.
Reader @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:04AM
Ohhhh... I was wondering when the director change happened, until I read your comment (didn't watch this Cameron's speech either).
Avatar: The Last Air Bender is awesome though. Easily the best kid's cartoon on any of those crap networks.
Peter Hall @ Jun 2nd 2009 12:52PM
PN04: Cameron's AVATAR is not the same thing as the Bruce Willis movie, which is called SURROGATES and is directed by Jonathan Mostow.
Uncontrol @ Jun 2nd 2009 1:32AM
every time i read about this movie i think it's "the last airbender"
LegendaryRedass @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:12AM
That show went out strong. Too bad Hollywood's getting their grubby hands on it. Yes, an airbender movie is in the works.
1337stra @ Jun 2nd 2009 2:54AM
God he TALKED and TALKED.
chuck @ Jun 2nd 2009 4:28AM
Am I the only one who fell asleep during his speech? Joystiq come on tell the truth hahahaha. I woke up and i was like OMG this guy is still talking, but it is cool to see he cares about his game i would love to see some friggin trailer or gameplay or something instead of just telling me about it.
pliny5678 @ Jun 2nd 2009 9:30AM
Jimmy Cameron got chunky in the past decade!
RogueJedi86 @ Jun 3rd 2009 5:53PM
I miss his goatee, it made him look cooler. :(
jam @ Jun 2nd 2009 11:53AM
and i thought the two Frenchmen took forever!
WWOFTBBNR @ Jun 4th 2009 12:36PM
I thought right away, "After this, why would anyone want to see this movie? He just told the whole story." I think Chris Hardwick on G4 said the same thing. For a movie James Cameron's been working on for 15 years, he sure did blow it.
