Did you get flower? That game was incredible. I'm getting it too, but I'm curious to how much it will cost.

If I play this game, will I still be able to donate blood to the Red Cross?

Seems like it.

It'd be better if you could use a Nikon or a Canon camera instead, though.

Nobody is forcing any of you to buy this game, so why is everyone complaining? I think it looks good, games don't need blood and gore to be fun (see: PixelJunk Eden, flOwer).

No, a game needs a "game". This is a 3 year old tech demo/Sony camera marketing vehicle (Yaris Racing?) with crappy graphics, bad UI and no "progression" something all the other games you mentioned have.
I don't care what platform you're rooting for or if you do. This video doesn't make the game look very good. It really look quite bad and has very long load times.

Who says there isn't progression? From the looks of the video, it seems like you unlock different scenes, cameras, lenses, etc.

You might think it looks bad, but I don't. Just remember that "good" is subjective, the video makes me want to buy it. You don't think its a game? Fine. Nobody is forcing you into buying it, so why does it matter anyways?

Just because you're not shooting everything in sight doesn't mean it's not a game. It's clearly not designed for the Joystiq crowd, but hey, don't just badmouth it because it's not your style. Have a little tolerance! Diversity makes gaming stronger.

Looks like more a camera simulator than a safari simulator. Are they trying to sell cameras with this?

You listen to that music, Joystiq? That's the child of Wataru Hokoyama, one of the biggest overlooked composers of all times.

The Afrika score is probably the most memorable classical score I've heard in, oh, decades. And it's in a videogame not a blockbuster movie! Go praise him!

The best soundtracks are in games man what have you been missing. OK, Harry Potter Lord of the Rings and Star Wars were good, but other than those video game music has no match.

Is it just me or does Afrika look similar to a PS2 game? I'm not seeing much by means of graphical beauty here. The texture on the grass is just a stretched plane, for crying out loud. I really liked Pokemon Snap (don't judge me), and I was looking forward to playing this, but if it looks like something that could have been created on the PS2, I might have to wait...

Who didn't see this coming? Everybody it seems. This was announced when E3 2007? Back then people wanted to play this game even though they were told that it'll be like Pokemon Snap for the PS3. And look at it now. You take pictures, just as it was announced at the time, and take pictures of the pretty animals. Does it come with a free Sony pillow and blanket because that's what you'll need to play this game.

Who needs sleeping pills when you've got Afrika.

There's nothing wrong with an educational game about nature. There's nothing wrong with a camera simulator for photography buffs. So why does everyone get their panties in a knot just because Sony is reaching out to an audience beyond hardcore shooters?

I can't wait for this, for the same reason I bought an N64 for the sole purpose of playing Pokemon Snap. It fills a strange little hole in my gamer heart, right along side my inexplicable love of horse racing games.

Does anyone know if it's going to be any different from the imported version? Something tells me they're going to be charging more than it'd cost to import it.

pokemon snap was even better than this... at least you could somewhat interact with them and you were constantly moving and not just sitting in one spot all day. it had more depth than this seems to have. hell, dead rising's camera (while essentially pointless) was more entertaining than this looks to be.

So if this sim is not a "game" then GT5 is not a "Game" either...Right Joystik?

BTW, I would rather play this game or any other new concept games, its better than playing another rehashed FPS! (Halo 14 anyone???)

Seriously, this seems to me one of the most hardcore games out there.

Now I say that, because LOOK AT ALL OF THOSE CAMERA OPTIONS. Why they all went over my head. What the hell does any of it mean?!

I'm guessing this is definitely a game for camera buffs :P

Winning the game should've opened up a hunting mode...maybe they'll add that for the U.S. release.

Such a lame article from Joystiq...

I own the Korean version (which have english texts btw) and can say it's fully a game.

Sure you can't kill animals, run them down in your jeep or even get to close, that's the whole point of a photo safari - to get close enough to get great photos without disturbing the animals. It's a photo-safari-sim and not a hunting sim or petting game... jesus on skates!

Afrika is a niche title and a non-violent experience - I like it for what it is.

I don't get why Joystiq is (for me) "belittling" the game. I think that he should just be professional and report the news and not mock it. But maybe it's his style, whatever. Anyway, I've read reviews of the game and it seems very enjoyable. Although I am not a photographer, I immensely enjoy learning new things about them. And so I am definitely getting the game.

Any word on whether or not this game has Trophy support? How about the ability to invert the YX axis? I have Hakuna Matata and would buy this game again if they implemented these two features. I emailed Natsume but they never got back to me.
