Sucks for PAX attendees...

Why do I feel like nothing major is happening at PAX this year? Isn't this supposed to be a major event?

"If you know someone who went to PAX, it's very sad, but they're dead now. You hear us? DEAD. " - Is that supposed to be funny? Someone I grew up with has died from Swine Flu no more than two months ago due to "complications." People ARE dying from this - even if it isn't in the huge numbers that were initially suggested - and I don't think your joke was particularly well thought out.

Sorry for loss.

Not sure why you were downvoted. You do bring up a valid point. However you also have to see it from the other side. I have yet to even know anyone who's sick with swine flu and really it just seems to be a mass hysteria over nothing at this point.

But on a whole nother note it doesn't surprise me to see Justin wrote this article. His jokes are usually epic fails.

I understand your feelings, but at the same time, people die from the regular flu each year. H1N1 is not drastically more of a killer than your generic influenza virus (which is admittingly, not a great thing in of itself).

I don't see what the big deal is. I had swine flu and I'm fine. Although I do have a slight urge to feast on human brains and dance the the song "Thriller"

They just want you to run to the doctor because its more money for them. The whole world is obsessed with money and you cant believe what the media or even doctors tell you, or drug companies. Prescription drugs are even causing more problems than they help in some cases. Just remember to stay in drugs, drink plenty of school and dont do milk and youll be fine

Ok, Joystiq. Now you're stupid. First, it's called H1N1. Second, As everyone said, IT'S NOT (that) DEADLY, WHICH IS THE SAME AS GETTING NORMAL FLU.

Now I hate you all (the Joystiq staff) even more.

I was there and started feeling symptoms by Saturday Night...now my whole family has it...but you need to re-word your article.

DO NOT go to the doctors office, call and have the nurse call you back. They DON'T want people coming in and spreading it. Theres nothing to give for it anyway. You only need medical attention if you are a high-risk patient. (baby, elderly or low-immunity disease)

Having people run to the doctor will only spread this more. STAY IN BED AND CALL!

I was downvoted because I wasn't sucking up to the post author, it seems.

I do see it from the other side, but I don't think I would have been comfortable with the joke either way, really. I realise that no more people are dying of this than of standard Influenza, but that's almost like saying that I can make jokes about people dying of Leukemia because more people die of cancer, IMO.

According the CDC, on average 36,000 Americans die from a seasonal flu each year. As of August 21, the World Health Organization reports less than 2000 deaths World Wide from the2009 H1N1 virus. So, is swine flu serious. Hell yes, its the flu and 36,000 people die from seasonal (common) influenza every year in the US alone. Still, the numbers don't lie, and swine flu, despite its potency, hasn't claimed as many lives as the media outlets would have you believe.
