Wii Fit is on the verge of becoming the second-highest selling "game" in the US of the last 10 years. IGN reports on NPD data, revealing that Wii Fit has reached 7.9 million sales, passing by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City's 6.9 million and creeping up quickly on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' 8.25 million units. The only thing ready to kill Wii Fit's momentum is Wii Fit Plus, which will replace the previous version at retail.
Some out there are probably ready to argue that Wii Fit should not be counted among other games. Yeah, those folks are going to pitch a fit about the top seller: Wii Play. The controller-bundled "software" holds the crown, having reached 11.1 million sales. We can't wait to see how the Vitality Sensor does.

DO you go to the gym?
I haven't gone to my Wii Fit in a long time, but at least it's not a lasting membership that tries to peer pressure you into keeping your membership despite its lack of use.
Question though: Have you tried Wii Fit? At least two activities from each section? Sure a gym may be better, but don't think the game doesn't work you to sweat.
Get ready to duck, as there's a good chance that barrages of "DDR WAS BETTER AT MAKING YOU SWEAT" comments will be heading here soon.

It's better than a gym membership for several reasons:
1. It's cheaper.
2. You can exercise at home instead of having to go after work and getting home later. That is very important fr people with families.
3. It will help you track your calorie intake as well as calorie output based on activities you do in game as well as during the day, without needing an expensive personal trainer.
4. You can play some of the exercise games against other people in the family, making it more enjoyable.
Wii Fit isn't as effective as goign to the gym, but for people who would otherwise not get any exercise, it's a great solution. As is EA Sports Active. Just because it requires more from your lazy ass than pushing some buttons is no need to whine and cry about it.

I'm going to have to say that I didn't enjoy San Andreas as much as other GTA's (ie: III, Vice City, IV), but it was still a smashing success and one of the top selling games of all-time.
With that said, I have no problem with the mainstream friendly gaming. It has its market and has been very successful catering to it. I applaud them to reaching out and expanding the industry I love. As long as devs still continue to support hardcore titles, and they will, as long as you continue to buy them, of course.
Everyone should be able to enjoy the form of interactive gaming they prefer and Wii Fit opens up the market and lets other individuals in. That's a good thing.

That's so depressing...back to Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend to cheer me up (real games!).

I'm going with Tmac too. Uncharted is utterly spectacular. Way better than some exercise game.

"Spectacular" doesn't make a game real or not.
You can say it's better than any exercise game (unless they make an exercise game that has an awesome storyline, great use of controls, variety of weapon/item choices, a great leveling system, co-op, and multiple endings.....), but that doesn't make the exercise game any *faker.
I can easily say that I got more play out of Dig Dug than Uncharted 2, and damn do I love my Dig Dug. But does that make Uncharted 2 a fake game? No.
Games are games. And the only way a game is fake is if it fools you into thinking that it's a game, but it's really not.
If you're insinuating Wii Fit does that, then I'm sorry you feel that way.
Some of us can have fun in things such as basic exercise and balance games.

This has to be the saddest gaming news of the week.Is amazing that all this garbage is replacing the real games.

I never really understood the war between these games, it's like xenophobia you don't like it cause you're not used to it. At least that's how I see it, I'm not the biggest fan of shooters but I accept them as games. The casual scene has always been there, it's wasn't as big until the Wii came out.
What I'm saying is that, we shouldn't just hate on a game because it's different from the others, in fact we should accept it and learn to deal with it, sure it isn't as great in your eyes as the norm, but if the world kept the mindset that the norm was the only way to go, we would be far behind in the world.
So before you hate on the Wii or casual gaming in general just realize that it's not destroying the industry but it's allowing others to join in. And it's best we open them with a smile instead of pushing them away.

I'm sure granny, mum and sister would be delighted to hear this news, seeing as how they only used our wii fit twice, just like the dance mat they bought for the PS2, I shall go and tell them this news right away :D

Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board, $99 + the required Wii, $199.99 and some rechargeable batteries = too much $
Posted: Oct 13th 2009 9:47PM blahblah55 said
Then do so. :P
It costs a fortune just to play Rock Band/Guitar Hero. But people are willing to spend money for that stuff. Just like how people are willing to spend money on Wii Fit.
I'm sorry, was the Balance Board supposed to come free with every Wii? We didn't get the memo.

To get a 360 or PS3, you have to spend 200-300 dollars on each console, another $1000 on an HDTV, another $200 on controllers, $60 on a game, $500 to buy a sofa, and ~$100000 for a house to play it in. For that price, you can get a Wii and over 500 games.
Sounds dumb doesn't it? Well that is what you sound like while making an unfair comparison. One video system with a packed in game, batteries, another game, and a peripheral is more expensive than another console alone? Duh.

You COULD just get a charger for all the Wii devices.
Mind you, you have to read reviews as a good number of them brick these devices.
However, my charger for my Balance Board works great, hasn't failed me.

The "is-it-a-game-or-isn't-it" debate will be irrelevant soon enough. Like it or not, Mario Kart Wii will surpass GTA: SA within a year or so. It's already at 6.7 million, and hasn't left the top ten since debuting (something like 17m worldwide).

3rd is still quite a feat for a game that requires an expensive peripheral.
