Now we got to destroy this guy's credibility, or else fanboys will use his statement as a reason to use metacritic in fanboy war discussions! We can't give them a good reason to do that.

But again, I think he just killed it on his own at the same time, but the fanboys won't care.

Professionally metacritic does matter to a developer. Publishers look at your overall rating nowadays so that when you come to them with your next kickass idea it gives you better leverage to get the game greenlighted and for them to not interfer as much. The ugly truth is that Wal-Mart, Target and Gamestop all have meetings of things they'd like to "see" in a game. However if you have the cred of say Infinity Ward, you can write your own ticket.

Totally agree with him on the part about developers needing to play other games. I see interviews with guys that say they don't and I think it's stupid. First off, you're not a gamer then, so you obviously you don't really get us. Secondly take a lesson from Sun Tzu. Learn from your competition. To think you're the only one with a good idea is completely stupid.

Yeah, how many Call of Dutys, Halos, Zeldas, Resident Evils and Super Marios can we play? Not that I don't love all those series but we need to see more Dragon Ages, Dead Spaces and Left 4 Deads. There aren't enough new, solid IPs out there and he's exactly right, it comes back to the executives and shareholders who are only interested in short term, conservative profit gain. In the long term, innovative, robust IPs are much more practical financially speaking than short sighted, run-of-the-mill games. Look at Assassins Creed, not only is that a huge success in itself, it's helped Ubisoft push even more innovative games like Mirror's Edge.

sure they may be part of life now, but how does that make his statement fail. he was simply pointing out that the current second hand sales put all the money back into the retailers pockets and the development studios who create the game don't get anything. There are some great games that will sell a shitload, but most of those will be from second hand sales, effectively reducing the amount the game really sold.

Publishers arent interested in second hand sales, if you go "oh our game sold 1 million in the first month but only 100,000 were actually new product sales. The publisher will tell you to gtfo, why becasue they arent interested in a game where they only get a small percentage of the overall sales.

Especially in the current market where second hand sales can sell for as little as 10 dollars different. Stores that sell games for second hand are essentially raping the industry.
