Its not the fact that I have to pay 10 more dollars it was the way they announced it. They could have said they will be adding something or doing something with the service and it will cost 10 more a year. It is a great service (at least in my eyes).Also they got rid of Xbox 1 multi-player which I don't use but it just came off like they were getting rid of stuff and adding more to the fee.

@MrDestructoid grow up? for not seeing a reason why to pay $10 more a year? riiiiiight....

don't forget that they started off charging $50 and had not SHIT but match making and party chat.....they have added what....Netflix(Free on other consoles), Facebook(Free on other consoles), LastFM, twitter(Free EVERYWHERE) and now ESPN3....so you mean to tell me...that you are getting your money's worth? Sorry but as an adult, and someone who is pretty damn tight with a dollar...I can't agree.....maybe if it was more added before they jumped the price up to $60.....but what they have added just seems like nothing but "made for xbox" versions of free shit....

@Chris

It's not like it's $60 a month. People aren't stupid they know what they're paying for. Those who don't care about the price hike will continue to pay and those who don't will move on to what they prefer.

Heh even at $50 live is a scam. Paying $200 just to play a game with a friend online for 4 years? yeah what a steal, and now they want to raise that? yeah no thanks. To me xbox live gold is the same as a service like AOL over your broadband, you are paying for a skinned experience nothing more.

Nobody likes paying more, but you know virtually everyone is going to keep paying for it. The handful of people who decide to give up on Xbox Live will be more than offset by the added revenue from the price hike from the millions of players who will just keep on payin'.

You guys are acting like it's such a super big deal. People spend hundreds of dollars a night on useless stuff. imagine the people who play WOW & other MMOs where they pay 15 bucks a month. That's 180 dollars a year & they still pay for it. If 60 dollars a year is scaring you, then maybe you should buy a PS3. Or maybe not because if you don't want to pay 60 dollars a year then you wouldn't want to buy a PS3 in the first place. Xbox live pays for faster servers, exclusive & timed exclusive content, features like freaking voice messaging & party chat that you can't get on any other console & many other things like game with fame, frag doll fridays, tuesday family game night, promos & xbox live deals. Know your priorities people. Online gaming isn't a priority & if you don't want to pay for it, DON'T.

Dude, have you ever heard ofthe price of something going up before or do you expect the price of something to remain the same FOREVER? It's been 50 since launch over 5 years ago. Remember when a soda was 25 cents? It's stupid to think as the years go buy prices on services won't rise, regardless if you think it should be free and if it may be an obvious money grab. The fact is it's never gone up before and it's only less than a dollar a month IF you pay full price. If you don't like it dont contribut to it just leave your outrag at the door because it's ridiculous.

A few months? Really?

So the PS3 is going to sell 1.3m more, per month, over what the 360 sells, for the next three months straight? That would be an impressive feat indeed.

XBL>PSN (don't know about PSN Plus because PSN SUCKS SO BAD.

I get playstation home for FREE! (sorry you better pay me to put that crap on my console)
IMHO Sliverlight Streaming of both Netflix and Zune content via 360 looks quite a bit better than PSN.

The $35 per year that I pay (I'm paid thru 2012 :p ) is well worth the fact that XBL Gold has dedicated bandwith. My guess is PSN+ does too because bandwith and servers aren't free and that's a good chunk of what you're paying for with XBL Gold and PSN+.

I've already posted before about this, but if the PS3's sales trends continue then the PS3 will be past the 360 by the end of 2011. The PS3 sells more per years of its release than the 360 does. Meaning, in the 360's first year (2006) it sells 1.1 million, the PS3's first year (2007) it sells 1.2 The PS3 keeps doing this every year until it finally outsold the 360 in 2009 for years 2008 & 9 for xbox (not combined, but separate).

Sure, he exaggerated, but consider that Sony also doesn't seem to update their sales as much as MS does. VGChartz sure doesn't seem to update PS3 sales hardly ever, while the 360 ones get periodic updates at a faster rate. 1.6 for the 3 months would be 4.8 mil, so close enough to the 5 mil they are behind, but I have yet to hear of any concrete numbers released by Sony. VGChartz doesn't seem to show the slightest change in PS3 sales despite Joystiq releasing Japanese hardware sales all the time that clearly show that it should be going up at least a few hundred thousand on occasions

@ichibansony it's nothing but hype

Don't get me wrong, the 360 was a pretty nice system at launch because it was ahead of the others, but its success in America is because of how much hype got around it. It really makes no sense to me, but I can remember when the PS3 first came out, and people would blatantly lie to you about stuff. Like, the rumor that all 360 games had dedicated servers for each individual game was a common one. The worst was when someone told me that Gears of War 2 never lagged for him. This was before I got my PS3, but this really brought my piss to a boil. I played tons of gears 2, and not lagging was like a myth that people dreamed that might someday occur on the game. If someone says that that game doesn't lag, you know they're full of crap.

@Webdev511 PSN sucks so bad?
It currently has everything XBL has except some ESPN thing that not everyone can even have depending on their ISP and some Zune stuff. Oh, that and some ads. You don't have to use Home, and yeah, I don't really get the point behind it, but they offer a good deal of free stuff on PSN. I can get free themes and other goodies even without plus, just by browsing the store. As for dedicated servers, plus is just like normal PSN but with some extra content. I would assume PSN already has dedicated servers since I dl everything on it just as fast if not faster than I did with my 360. I have great internet, but I remember my 360 taking like an hour just to dl a little over a gig of data for some data (might've been the wolverine demo, i just remember the thing was like 1.2 gigs or something). My PS3 never takes that long, I usually download several things on it within an hour.

Hey its a Sony fanboy pow wow it seems. "Ichiban Sony" Seriously? I have both PSN is a slow mess compared to XBL. My updates on my 360 take seconds literally, it took my PS3 25 minutes to complete an update just to watch a Blue Ray movie, I know many of you don't find downloading movies through each service like a big deal, but some of us are cable-less, and instant 1080p streaming on Zune marketplace for rentals is amazing. Try renting a movie on PSN it takes 3 hours to download a movie before watching it. Then you have party chat, ESPN, and amazing UI interface to interact with your friends, check messages, and join your friend's parties and games Xbox Live is light years ahead of PSN IMHO.

Also PSN has been playing catch up with Xbox Live since its inception, how anyone can still support a service over the one HD system that set the tone this generation is mind blowing to say the least.

Regarding multiplayer games on the PS3, some games use dedicated servers. Warhawk and MAG are two good examples and I believe that Killzone 2 does as well. The PS+ subscription, to me, makes sense because it would actually go into funding the maintenance of those dedicated servers.

I really don't understand how more expenditure on the XBL ultimately gives you the best experience. What is it that makes the XBL experience so much "better" than that of PSN? I'm not trying to troll here, this is a serious question that I would like to have answered.

I have a PS3 right now with an active PSN account. What can someone tell me to convince me that XBL offers a greater experience? This is all in serious terms, and I would really appreciate some feedback.

@Eddy082408
Scenario: A saturday afternoon.

I log into Xbox Live. I see that my buddy and 2 other XBL friends are playing Bad Company 2. I put my BC2 disk in my xbox, highlight his name, and press "join party and game". My Xbox automatically loads the game, takes me to his match, and puts me in his squad. My headset is tuned to his chat. Less than a minute from the time I turned on my xbox, and I am already in a group of my friends playing a game with them.

We play play for an hour and then me and my buddy decide we want to play Halo, while the other 2 decide to play Fable 3. Me and my buddy pop in our Halo disks and go to the lobby, and joining the same group in Halo Reach is as simple as pressing A on his name. The other 2 are doing co-op Fable, and we still have a 4-way chat going.

Time passes and my buddy leaves while another comes online, starts up Monday Night combat, and invites me to his game. Accepting his invitation automatically drops me out of Halo and starts up Monday Night Combat (since its an arcade game), joins me to his team, and again matches up the voice chat.

Also, XBL gold deals are pretty nice too. Weekly discounts (often around 50%) off of things I actually want, like popular arcade games, and DLC for games like borderlands. Plus the fact that MS dumps tons of money into getting lots of DLC/Arcade games first is nice too.
