Good review.

Still going to pass on this, since Skate 3 fills my every skating-need.

@MystileArmor exactly how i feel. i've finally gotten pretty good at Skate 3 after breaking my brain's bad Tony Hawk habits. i don't think i can take another skateboarding game control scheme.

Yeah, I can see someone wanting to pick this up if you want over-the-top combo's etc. I prefer the simulation that Skate 3 brings, and if I really have that rare craving for some over-the-top fun, I'll do some Hall-Of-Meat challenges or I'll make my own skatepark with crazy junk in it.

Skate was an all around better experience than Tony Hawk for me. I like Tony Hawk and all but Skate did the near impossible brought a dead genre back to life. I can't even begin to think how many hours I dumped into that franchise...

Only the greatest skater in the world can free the world from not knowing how long Stride Gum's flavor lasts or how great a Frosty tastes! Ugh...

PS: Chris Plante! Nice to see you on Joystiq!

I personally love this game, def not as good as the old tony hawk games, but it is a heck of a lot better than the skate games.. The story is weird but pretty interesting, new gameplay elements are just awesome.

To be honest, I expected this to be a complete flop. The fact that its experimental ideas actually get off the ground, albeit not perfectly, makes a good argument for a sequel, provided they can fix the mistakes.

Is there going to be a demo of this? I at least want to see how it skates.

Yeah, I'm a huge Tony Hawk fan (not the riding ones or the wii one) but I could never grasp the control of Skate. I'm sitting at 5/1000 in the first one :o(
I just want to know if I'll be able to play this.

This is only vaguely related by the barest thread of string, but for the love of god why won't someone make a new SSX game?

It's true, it is a popular story.

Kind of what I expected. Skate is a pretty hard act to beat, Black Box achieved something truly rare...it's almost equivalent to a random studio knocking Madden NFL out of the market. A long running well-established franchise simply wiped off the map by a game that's just wildly better. And I think we can all agree Tony Hawk's Ride was not the right response to Skate. I don't think Shaun White Skateboarding is the right response either. I think the only way we could refine the control in skating games further would be multi-touch control. Simply the Skate formula but with a touch pad for higher precision ;p

I guess this is a demo, not really. But I want to see how it skates.
Actually, I really enjoyed the news above, but now I have no time.
After graduation, I have to earn money anyway as Electronic Cigarette, it's a man's responsibility...
