Beyond the fact that the action is blistering and the feeling of Half-Life's world is spot-on, Gordon Freeman's infamous crowbar makes an appearance. Sure, we realize it's a bit bizarre to have our heart rates increase after briefly glimpsing a crowbar, but, well ... okay, we don't have a logical explanation. We just love Gordon Freeman. How could you not?!
Beyond Black Mesa trailer makes us mesa our pants

Earlier this year we got our first glimpse at fan-created Half-Life film "Beyond Black Mesa" ... and it made us kinda freak out. Knowing that more was coming, you'd think we'd have prepared ourselves, but we couldn't have been ready for the sheer excitement that resulted from watching the latest trailer -- it picked up our expectations for the film with a gravity gun and fired them into space, in so many words.

Everything is great, except for the unexplained fact that a fat asian guy survived...

My opinion on that that he seems to be their tech guy, probably protected by the others because they kinda need him. Even if that's not it, it's not like the dude is 400lbs. He could probably still keep ahead of the enemy long enough to allow his teammates or whatever to save his ass one way or another.

holly balls. i don't think i could handle if that was ever made into a full length film. i can only take that much concentrated awesome in doses of 2 min or less.

Girl looks like she probably is the worst actor of the three, and chubby asian guy would be the first to die, but other than that the look of the trailer is top-notch and the main dude fits perfectly.

The effects and camerawork in that, looked phenomenal. Are you sure this is fan made? I've seen worse effects AND camerawork in proper cinema releases.

For a moment I thought you meant Black Mesa, the recreation of Half-Life in the Source engine that's been in work, for about, oh, 4 years.

As for the video, I saw the teaser of the trailer earlier this year. It looks good, but one problem they have is everyone looks too clean. Their faces, their clothes, too clean.
Look at the fighters in Half-Life 2, their clothes are dirty, their faces are dirty. These guys look a little too clean. Their clothes look a little too 0ff-the-rack. Add in a little dirt to them, toss them in the dirt, and shake them around a bit, and it would be better.

Wow. I never imagined Commander Shephard in the Half-Life universe. This must be his early days before Earth discovered the Mass Relays. Maybe The Combine are actually a protoype version of The Collectors. Man, a true mash-up would be amazing!

Seriously though, I wonder how many people actually connect this guy with the character from Half-Life: Opposing Force? He's not exactly "iconic" like Freeman.

You know all those Marines you fight in Half-Life 1?
In Half-Life: Opposing Force, you play as one of them.
You find out the military lied to you as well, and you are left in the base as it's about to be nuked. The black ops ninjas later were sent in to eliminate everyone, including the leftover military. G-Man is watching you, as well, and steps in at the last minute, and delays the nuke, and puts you into supension. The final line is "Test Subject: Detained for further review."
That's why the trailer has "Further review" or whatever on it. The marine is Adrian Shepard. People have asked for years for Adrian Shepard to make a comeback, but considered the game wasn't done by Valve, and Gearbox has trash-talked Valve lately, it isn't like to ever happen.
And it was made by Gearbox, not Valve.

What? It's not Colonel Sheppard from Atlantis? Now I'm disappointed.
What is with all these fictional military "Shepards" anyways?

How many fan-made films were made in between Half-Life 2 Episode 2 and Episode 3? How many games will be programmed in between releases?!
