SSX 'Descent' sites registered

With Shaun White now taking it to the streets, perhaps there's an opening on the slope for EA's snowboarding franchise, SSX, to reemerge from hibernation. A mess of newly registered domains points to the possibility of a reboot of the series, which has been sidelined since 2007's pedestrian Wii release, Blur.
Professional domain registration outfit Corporate Domains, Inc. (what a gig!) has locked down URL variations of "SSX: Deadly Descent," plus an "SSX: First Descent" domain -- suggestive of the popular reboot motif: the origin story. While none of this activity is confirmation of a new SSX game, EA has worked through Corporate Domains in the past in advance of public announcements, most recently to secure web real estate for potential Need for Speed names (though Hot Pursuit was ultimately recycled) and The Sims Medieval.
As for SSX, it's been more than a year since EA Montreal's Alain Tascan left open the possibility for a new entry in the series, saying in September 2009, "If the market is there and is ready for a new one, then we'll consider it." Perhaps through Move and Kinect, EA Montreal sees its ready market and an opportunity to build on the motion-controlled framework established in its Blur effort. Of course, fans of the last-generation games might prefer to see the series' original developer, EA Canada, stage the comeback. And what a meta-comeback story it could be! (The studio could use a big win following the NBA Elite 11 fail, after all.)
Still, all this domain fuss could just as easily be over the naming of the SSX iPhone game, which has been -- quietly -- in the works for too long.

Really? Have you even used Kinect? It's pretty awesome. Again I said capable, I didn't say for kinect. I'd just love to see some more games which it feels like the hardware was made for. SSX would be one of those games.

Errrr....I'd love to see you do even a portion of the tricks in SSX without a d-pad and buttons. I just don't see how it could be possible.

Nothing about SSX in any of it's iterations, including the godawful Wii version, says "This is good for Kinect." It would be as stupid as releasing a version of Tony Hawk with it's own balance board...
AKA keep yer goddam Kinections away from a franchise that I absolutely love.

Descent? Snowboarding in hell? I guess that would make it lavaboarding, but who cares; that would be way more interesting than another sports drink promoted broseph game.

If it's well done, this is probably one of the few titles that I'd consider buying a Kinect for. I've always been of the mindset that great games drive the need for a peripheral... not the other way around.

Descent, eh? Is it ok if I hold out hope that it will be shooter in which you pilot a ship through mines and fight robots? Is that so much to ask?

I'm gonna disagree with you on one point there, Toop. I loved the first 3 SSX games with torrid abandon, but 4 (or "On Tour") was like being punched in the family jewels. I thought it was a step back in pretty much every respect for the series.
Which is why my excitement about a new SSX is conditional. If they've gotten over whatever drug-induced fever that inspired the decisions behind On Tour, then I'm all for it.

@ComicShaman This. I loved Tricky, essentially what the first game should have been. 3 was good, too. On Tour? lol wtf happened there, it's like they didn't even try.
But Tricky remains my fave. They need to bring back Rahzel if they want to make a proper SSX.

My excitement will be killed for this when they announce these inevitably will be motion controlled games.
I don't want to be the controller. I want a controller.

You should really give it a chance. Kinect is superb. Though yes, I hope for Kinect capable. I would get tired after awhile and would like 4 play split screen as an option as well.

Really? I would highly doubt that as true. Go read forums, and talk to people who have it or played it.
It's awesome.
Whatever though to each his own.

I don't mind if it has motion control capability tacked on (which it may as well if it's also developed for the Wii), but yeah controller-focus please.

Yes! It really is about damn time SSX came to the next gen of consoles. SSX 3 was gorgeous and the whole idea of integrating riding down the entire mountain was great. The games always sold well too, so I'm so surprised to see how reluctant EA is about doing another one.
There's nothing like it, and I can't wait to hit the slopes again.

Ten bucks says its a Move or Kinect game in the vain of SSX Blur.
If I'm wrong, I'll be out ten bucks, but the new amazing SSX game will be worth the loss.

OMG!!! SSX Tricky was like the best snowboarding/racing game on PS2!! SO much fun! Hopefully if they make another it won't be disappointing.

SSX3 improved on the trick system, but being all on one mountain, the levels were blander than the unique, creative and over-the-top thrills of Tricky. Tricky was one of the top 10 games of its gen, and one of my top faves of all time.
On Tour was an abortion. They broke the tricking, made the levels even more bland and indistinguishable than 3's, and pasted the whole thing with douchebag stickers.
That said...
Squee!!!
