Having tossed only the twentieth perfect game in baseball -- ever -- this past season and tacking on twenty more regular season wins, not to mention recording only the second no-hitter in post-season history (in his first post-season game), Phillies ace Roy Halladay has earned himself the cover spot on this spring's Major League Baseball 2K11 (no curse attached). 2K Sports bestowed the honor today, in advance of tomorrow's National League Cy Young Award announcement, which the publisher predicts will go to "Doc" as well.
"I'm honored to be on the cover of Major League Baseball 2K11," said the always-humble Halladay in 2K's announcement. "I'm not one for predictions, but should 2K Sports be right about tomorrow, well, that would be a great way to end the year." Certainly, it would be a better ending than the current one: watching teammate and former MLB 08 cover athlete, Ryan Howard, take strike three looking to seal shut a chance for the team's third-straight World Series appearance.
Or is that not how it played out in your 2K10 season?

This wasn't a guy who made a bad judgment mistake or acted in a heat of the moment situation. He has multiple run-ins with the law. He was responsible for the systematic killing and torture of hundreds of dogs. Electrocution, drowning, shooting, and starving dogs were some of the ways he dealt with "underachieving dogs". That's brutal and just plain evil. It will take a lot more than him winning some football games to convince me he is a changed person.

@Riley Freeman...I didn't mean to attack you as a dog lover, but I don't know about redemption. Fortunately for M. Vick, we live in a culture where athletes who are successful at their sport and WIN, pretty much get a free-pass at every other aspect in life. If i committed the same crimes as Vick, went to prison, and then asked for my same job back afterwards, I would get an incredulous look, right before I was forcibly removed by security. I hope Vick is remorseful, and glad that he is moving forward with his life, but he deserves no adulation because he plays football well.

Do you even know what he has done? Not just win football games. Donated Thousands of dollars to Animal Shelters and more to organizations. He goes to different schools every week to talk about Dogs. He goes to Animal Rights rallies and more. If he didn't redeem himself well damn he's trying.

This is great news. I had the pleasure of watching him play for the Jays all those years in obscurity. Now that he's playing for a big market US team he's finally getting the exposure and recognition he's deserved for nearly a decade.

As a lifelong Blue Jays fan, this makes me both happy since he was with my team for so long yet sad because he's no longer with us.
That all said, I'm more interested in what I'm sure will be the infinitely superior MLB 11: The Show.

He definitely earned it. The no hitter in the playoffs will be remember a lot longer than the Giants/Rangers WS.

You two Giants fans might remember that more, but the rest of the baseball watching populace will definitely remember the time Doc Holladay pitched a no-no in the playoffs more than the lowest rated WS in baseball history.

"In reality", a no-hitter in your first post-season start against the best offensive lineup in baseball (Reds) all year isn't as good as a two-hitter against a young, injury-decimated Braves lineup (plus the fact that the winning (and only) run the Giants got was due to a blown call at second base)? Your reality must be skewed.

Commander Cody! What an awesome team. No real standouts in the field other than Posey behind the plate. Terrific pitching and without one of their $$$$ (aka costs a ton of cash) players Zito off the active roster.
Yup, I'll remember this WS for the rest of my life. Halladay who?

@chillinchief...Actually, theres plenty of people on the west coast who remember the Giants being the world champs, not Roy Halladay pitching in a playoff game

@The Joy of Painting w Bob Ross...actually your reality is skewed, because the Giants pitching staff completely dismantled the Texas Rangers, who had a pretty potent line-up as well. Plus all their pitching comes from their farm league, not over priced free agents that N.Y. and Philly like to pay 25mill. a year

I don't want to get into an entire statistical debate but just to let you know there is a stat called game score that measures how good a particular start was. The number is out of 100, Halladay received a 94, Lincecum received a 96.
I watched all 3 starts (Lincecum, Lee, Halladay) and while Halladay's start was rare it was not nearly as dominate as the other two. Lee's start in particular, shutting down the Yankees was beautiful.

It is really sad that people choose not to watch the World Series. Especially one in which two teams who were fighting to win their first world series in 50 years. If you can't respect and watch that than you aren't really baseball fan. There was some great baseball played in that series.
The entire Giants 2010 season was memorable. I will never forget this team, they remind me a lot of the 2004 Red Sox, a team that refused to go down and pretty much shocked everyone. I will admit Roy Halladay's start was amazing. But that whole season was complete and utter magic. It was baseball at its finest.

Hey - kudos to the Giants for winning the series - never took any credit away from them - but a rookie catcher winning a WS is nowhere near the achievement of a no hitter.

@Grimcicle If The Show had the pitching mechanics, stats, and commentary that 2K has, then I would agree. The Show is visually better, no doubt, so I wish the two could combine to create the ultimate baseball game. Pitching being my favorite aspect to play, I'll stick with 2K, but I'm looking forward to seeing what improvements both games bring for next Spring (then I'll know for sure).

To be fair, maybe this would've been a ground-breaking opportunity to put both pitchers on the cover...certainly made for an exciting world series.

They should have a collector's edition with the cover of Cliff Lee in a Yankees uniform and Derek Jeter as a free agent (although I'm not sure how they would show that. A suitcase?). I don't want to see either of those things but I'd be all over that copy.

As born and raised Yankee fan I'd much rather see Jeter finish his career in a Yankee Uniform than Lee

The worst part about that at bat, is that Howard at the time had the 3rd highest OPS of all players in the postseason. But since he struck out, He gets all the blame. But yes, that was a piss poor series by the Phills. At least the Eagles and Flyers look good.
