@Ezio Auditore da Firenze you should prolly finish up the quote. He said it had no place in his current FPSes.

You can take photos with Kinect. One of the few things it does well if don't try to navigate the menus using Kinect.

Nah, I read that exactly the same way you did, Ezio.

I played with a kinect today in best buy and it just didn't do it for me. May be it was just kinect sports, but I'm not really interested. But it was cool when I stepped in front of it and it looked up at me, just like Number 5

Hmm i sure hope this Kinect lineup gets better, so far i only found Dance central, Your Shape and Kinect Sports to work adequalty,.

Lets just say the novelty is starting to wear off on them. and as for sonic free riders and joy ride i just dont feel racing games are going to work for kinect i find it very difficult to control to get any form of enjoyment out,.

Has theyre been any response about broken games if they will be patched or what as if this kinects dust then i will likely trade it in for some controller based games..

@bo1982 The next Forza game is supposed to have some kind of Kinect functionality, although if it's anything like what they showed at E3 it doesn't really bode well for the future of the series, since it was gimmicky at best and any racing simulation fan is going to want a real steering wheel, a real shifter, and real pedals.

Would be cool to play a game that incorporates voice as well.

Whatever he can come up with, I'm sure it would push the limits of kinect games past holding your hand up for 4 sec to push a button.

Well, in the future, Kinect is what people use to play fight games

You guys all caught The Island, right?

Carmack will tell this thing what to do. If Kinect wants to connect with me, it's going to have to bring some fresh and innovative ideas that weren't already discarded on the Wii's cutting room floor. If it had developers behind it that will take this thing to the next level, and it actually worked, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this thing. Until then, I will respectfully remain Kinect-Free, but I will fight to the death for your right to buy it and love it.

@Maginomicon

Seriously? My comment was voted down?

I describe at that link EXACTLY how an FPS could be done on Kinect.

If your gripe is about it augmenting Kinect with controller, and so it doesn't fit with the "spirit" of Kinect, get over it. No piece of technology should be limited by it's marketing tagline.

Why is "id Software"'s first letter uncapitalized? Shouldn't it be "Id"? I know this is how it's always done. Just wondered why.

@stalepie Logos and company titles are not required to conform to foolish mortal laws of "grammar." id and Carmack are of a higher plane than ours.

"Our real games"?!?!?!? See, this is why id makes such boring games! They seem convinced that if it isn't on the same model they've been using since the early 90's, it isn't a "real game". Hence you have all these fantastic technologists cranking out Generic FPS #134.

@ThatFuzzyBastard I, for one, would not at all mind a Quake in today's day and age, when the market is oversaturated with samey Call of Duty clones. Medkits instead of jam on your face? Blindingly fast run speeds? RAWKIT LAWNCHAIRS? Yes, please, Mr. Carmack, I'd like some more!

He's going to make an on rails shooter or a driving game. That's the same thing everyone else is actually making when they say they are developing "A unique and revolutionary experience made specifically for Kinect, buzzword buzzword buzzword, hardcore casual core casual hardcore casual hardcore core core core blah blah blah blah buzzword buzzword Kinect."

I feel like Kinect would be great for RTS games...I'm thinking an Ender's Game Game - Minority Report style as you give out orders to your subordinates on a large scale battlefield.

Think HomeWorld...

I had the same idea. Being able to circle a group by hand and getting them to defend an area, or attack a base with a voice command would work well i think.
I'm curious to see where Kinect goes with its games, Hopefully not all wii type mini games.

"The Second Kinect can do a REAL deep and precise game like BlazBlue or Demon's Souls, I'll take it seriously. Until then I will continue to dismiss it as another silly step in Microsoft's ambition of becoming a really expensive wii. "

I think the problem with most people is that they think about creating games that already work great with the current control scheme. The statement above is a great case in point. You want Kinect to do what a controller already does perfect for fighting games like BlazeBlue or action RPG like Demon's Souls. Instead, I want Kinect to bring totally new experiences that are fun for a device like Kinect not the same type of games, I've been playing for years.
