Not unless Best Buy can somehow manage to convince the world to have a leap year one year early.

@Xpike 280$

For something that is a real guitar PLUS a high-tech videogame controller...good price.

"Don't forget, you need a MIDI Pro Adapter to use this guitar with Rock Band 3. To use it like a regular guitar, you need ... an amp!"

Nice quote... except if I remember the E3 presentation properly, the guitar has the controller built into the guitar itself (look at the photo, see the 4 LED under the console logo?) The MIDI controller is for those who already have a MIDI capable guitar and/or keyboard.

It still needs the MIDI adapter since these guitars aren't console specific. I.E. The same guitar can be used on the Wii, 360, or PS3 so long as you have the appropriate MIDI adapter.

DJTama, you still need the MIDI adapter for the guitar since the midi adapter for each system is different. The guitar only puts out a MIDI signal, not a console specific one.

@Credge Yeah, it is definitely a lot, but considering you are getting a decent real guitar with it, I think it's actually a pretty good value. Definitely a niche item though, ha

This statement is not entirly true, for one becuase it is flawed as a regular guitar (or acoustic) does not need an AMP, and two i play electric guitar and havent used my AMP in months. Its amazing what the right cables and computer software can do for you now days.

Lol.

Well, they're acceptable for someone who doesn't know how to play but anything past "beginner" stage, and it's just...no. They're pretty much held together by duct tape and Elmer's glue.

If you're thinking Start, think Fender...and one that's made in the US.

Actually the newer Squires are of really good construction. However the pickups are still terrible. I have one that I replaced all the pickups in and it sounds awesome. American Strats are way overpriced at $1000+. At least go for the Japanese or Mexican Strats if you are afraid of being uncool with the word "Squire" on your guitar.

you couldn't be more ignorant about Squier these days. Maybe ten years ago what you say is true, but I and many other musicians have no issues performing with the newer squiers such as the classic vibe series or the vintage modified series. They are amazingly gig-able and well constructed for their price point.

Lol...

Squier's have always been junk. They're cheap, because they're made cheap. Just like Epiphone Les Pauls, they're basically made for beginners who don't want to invest in a quality instrument, but want the stylings of one.

If you want a Strat, there's American made Fender and then there's nothing.

Not *every* Squire has always been cheap crap. Yes, it's the lower price point strat, but that doesn't always equate to crap. Poor Tom is dead on.

Squiers aren't the best but they're far from awful. As for American or nothing, American strats are overpriced for the difference in quality. A Mexican Strat is just as well made except for the pickups and tuners. These can be replaced with better components and you could pay for a setup for less than the price of an American Strat.

I paid €400 for a Mex Strat, then replaced the pickups with EMG active ones, the tuners with Fender locking ones, the string tree and nut with graphite ones, an aluminium pickguard, strap locks and had it set up - all for around another €400. So I spent €800 all in all and it sounds, looks and plays amazing. There's a very high SNR. It's been borrowed a number of times by live bands.

So I may not be able to sell it for any more than €400 because it's still a Mex but I paid way less than an equivalent American Strat.

Oh, and I put the original bits from the Mex in a Hohner Strat-copy and it's a pretty good practice guitar.

The guitar comes with a MIDI adapter, doesn't it? I definitely remember that being said before. Everything you need for one system comes in the box with the Squier, it's one of the reasons it costs so much.

It hasn't been stated, but the general opinion is that it won't include a midi adapter. If you had it include the (console specific) adapter, that would require 3 different SKUS and packaging. Not to mention the people who are buying the squier are hard core enough that it is quite likely they already have a midi adapter to play with a real drum/keyboard.

The reason it is so expensive is simple - it's a specialty item.
Given that it's a squier + controller + new fretboard technology, and the limited sales it is going to have, $300 is a pretty fair price. It's expensive sure, but so is say, an ION drum kit.
