A recent report issued by Dublin-based firm Research and Markets states the value of the games industry in the US is estimated to be $7 billion and, naturally, dominated mainly by The Big Three™: Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Suddenly that $65 billion global target doesn't seem so unattainable.
Additionally, the report also talks about how video games are vying for consumer entertainment dollars as the preferred leisure activity, competing with TV and other forms of entertainment. The report itself will run you €97 ($129) and if you're interested, you can grab it right here.

Gaming itself has grown so powerful in the years of me being a gamer. I remember being a 80's child growing seeing gaming labeled as a kid, nerd, or geek fad. Now lo and behold gaming is everywhere.
I'm glad to see it getting so much respect but also part of me misses the days when it wasn't so mainstream and it had a some what underground feel to it.

@343 Guilty Fart Man, I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one that thought that. I mean, give her a scarf or turtle neck to hide the aging neck and shes good to go.

I thought that sounded funny as well. But if you look at the report the article is based on, it does not include entertainment software. So this 7 billion is strictly hardware. Last year hardware came out to be $7.6 Billion and video game software sales reached $10.5 Billion.

@Bielzer - You think that's bad??? Click on some of the links below it that gives other articles about gaming and some are OVER $3-5 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!! Just for a report!!!!
You can also change the money conversion on the left hand side to USD. At first I was using google to find the conversion for what it was showing in Euro's and I just couldn't believe some of those reports were in the thousands of dollars, but sure enough they were.
