2 years, and I haven't installed it yet.

For those who are enjoying Home, awesome. But I really wish Sony had devoted those resources to something more like XBox Live's party system.

The party system was probably a ton simpler and cheaper to develop, and it is much more useful for chatting and jumping into games with friends.

Home was the first thing I installed on my PS3, and I spent hours wandering around, looking at shit. I never did find anything fun, though, and I got sick of looking at all the advertisements. I've got plenty of those in real life, thanks.

Uninstalled home a week after I got my PS3, and have never looked back. Complete and total waste of resources.

I can't believe how impatient I got waiting for the open beta for Home.

I actually didn't mind Second Life too much.

But Home just doesn't appeal to me whatsoever, even though I've tried to find the fun there. It's just a waste of my PS3's talents.

Home would be fun if there was just some element of fantasy to it. In Second Life, there's hovering skateboards, a lot of design of your own space, driving around in cars, etc. It's really not super great, but it's enjoyable.

Home is a mall simulator. The minigames are either extremely benign or take you out of the open areas.

@DigitalFortress

I guess it's a cheap way to market games, but it's absolutely not for me.

And like I said, I even enjoyed Second Life to some extent, and I'm actually a very easy customer to please generally. I suspect the vast majority of people who love PS3 games just don't want to walk around a mall picking out simulated jeans.

@Dustin F I actually dont mind home.

The biggest mess up where its concerned is the fact that they released it and had the open beta with voice chat.

If it still had free voice everywhere it would probably be huge right now, they have improved voice support again, but its not enough I dont think.

The other problem is that instead of adding stuff they promised such as the trophy room and the ability to stream good shows in Home, or the tv and radios talked about to stream music in your personal home to friends. They keep redesigning areas, frankly the new menu system looks really FUGLY compared to the old one, they are better off just completely emulating the xmb or pushing it back to the old tiles style. The new home square isnt as nice either.

It has great potential, but Sony doesnt know what to do with it, its making them a lot of money still I think. Sony has a huge movie and Music arm, they could very easily leverage their own studios so that they streamed full length tv series and films in home, placed adverts in between showings and actually made the cinema into a real film channel, or a real tv channel.

I still think it has huge potential, I still go in there very occasionally and have a game of pool and look around, but they really need to stop messing around with the different areas and instead concentrate on the trophy rooms and other features they initially talked about and promised.

The other major thing they should implement and I mean this seriously, is like the Wii with its Mii characters , to allow people to have their home characters as their console characters as well, the amount of options available to modify and customise the home character is huge. There would be some pretty crazy characters and avatars for the ps3 and it would help to bridge the gap between the two.

Finally I also agree with you, they need to increase range of motion, having the ability to run and jump would be great. They could frankly make it into a massive mmorpg.

Dang, man. that's a pretty good list of reasons why Home hasn't really appealed as much as I expected it would.

I agree with just about all of it.

Trophy room would be pretty sweet.

@Dustin F Thanks, I agree with your points as well. I wonder when they will actually deliver the trophy room, seriously it cant be that difficult.

@Extinction Not quite its like the fugly bastard child of the XMB :)

I like Home.

It's fun to wander around every once in awhile and check out the new areas, watch some videos in the theater, maybe play a few games. Do a little people watching, too.

It's free and it amuses me. I'm cool with it.

Well, you're right it's free. Can't complain if it's not for everyone, or not what I was hoping for personally.

I must've been thinking of something else that was moved out of Beta...

Ahh well, downvote away!

God, is this crap still going? Downloaded it originally before my hard drive packed up and just thought it was a waste of space then and haven't been bothered to re-install it. Just seemed to be a lot of avatars doing the cabbage patch or crowding round any female character they should stumble upon. I really don't know what value this has added to the Playstation brand.

i enjoyed Home when it first came out but it got old really quick. there was just never a lot going on. plus i hated having to wait in a virtual line to play a game in there. and the constant updates were annoying as well but that part comes with it being a beta. i liked the idea of Home but it just never really materialized into that hub that i initially envisioned it being.

Plain and simple: It's OPTIONAL.
If any of you don't like it don't use it. How hard is that to understand?

@Jmarshallm so basically you offed your PS3 because of an icon on the XMB that you can simply ignore and pretend it's not there?

I like Home, go in every other week, check out the new rooms and mini games. I just have a problem with mini games charging people for each try. Dont get me wrong, something like sodium 1 is ok, your paying a small amount for a fun game and it lasts for as long as the space is available, but a space like the carnival charges for each go at the game, win or lose. That seems a little wrong to me.

Home needs some work, its like toast without spread at the moment or a peice of paper with nothing on it.

Its great in concept, but it lacks the fundamental things that should make people pour into it and use it as thier time waster of choice when they aren't gaming.

It should be like a GTA (without the violence), massive open world, lots to do, places to go, driving to be had, fun to be had, visit the beach, go to a hotel, go to the pool par, go for a swim. It should just be immersive, like a massive MMO with lots to do and you gain experience in this MMO by not only playing games in Home and doing mini missions (minigames) but also playing actual games and getting those trophies, that would be a way to tackle Xbox Gamerscore.

I also want to see my Home characters in my game, just why can't my cool looking character be in Uncharted :( Heck, why can't he be in WWE kicking Undertakers ass or Killzone 3? I want him to kick ass in all my games, or at least as many of them as possible, yet I've seen him only in home, therefore I cannot maintain an attachment to him as my character of choice when gaming.

Next, the rooms, they are boring, I know they upgrade little by little and yeah, finally theres music (or some looped minor version of what they call music) but its still lacking life, its lacking reasoning to invite people into it, which is boring.

I also want Onlive 'Arena' mode, I want to watch others playing games I don't own, this may persuade me to buy those games, I want to spectate and cheer the person on or jeer them, if they have the option open to allow spectators.

Theres lots I want, and at the moment, Home has got a long way to go to fulfill them all, but at the moment, it's okay. Just okay.

Interestingly enough, the majority of people here (myself included) downloaded Home when it FIRST came out and didn't enjoy it and have never tried it since.

Maybe it's worth checking out again after 2 years?
