@ohheysean psssh. I got it for $10 on release day. Best Buy offered $10 in RZ points for pre-ordering, then I price matched the $20 gift card deal that Toys R Us had, then i price matched the $40 price Kmart had for Black Friday. Total was $10.

thats a lie. best buy won't stack two different deals in a price match. you'd have to pick one or the other. in fact, its not even allowed in their policy to price match gift cards at all! only sale prices.

you could get the $10 reward zone and maybe, maybe price match one GC, but not two.

and lastly, youre clesrl lying because your math is wrong. game is $60, minus $10 for reward zone credit, minus $40 for k mart gift card, minus $20 for toys r us gift card.

according to your story, that would mean best buy paid you $10 to "buy" a $60 game.

what was your purpose in making that up?

how did you convince them to price match more than one store at the same time?

@fenway Do you want to see my receipts?
The pre-order $10 bonus was already there, because I bought from Best Buy. The gift card was issued to me, and never posted on my receipt (yet it shows up in my RZ "purchases"). Since it wasn't shown on my receipt, I was able to to go into the store and price match it (different customer service rep that time) to $40.
Total $10. 2 price matches.

@fenway Also, here's their price match guarantee http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Help-Topics/Best-Buy-Retail-Store-Price-Match-Guarantee/pcmcat204400050013.c?id=pcmcat204400050013
"How do you handle a price match if the Best Buy price includes a promotional offer such as a free gift card or rebate?

The Best Buy net purchase price is calculated by deducting the value of all instant and mail-in discounts such as rebates, free offers and promotional gift cards. Existing rebates and free offers associated with a product purchased at Best Buy will not apply if a price match is executed."

And YOUR math is off. Kmart didnt have a $40 gift card offer, it was a $40 price match.

@ferret I went in 2 times. Picked it up on release day, matched the $20 gift card offer. Since the $20 gift card wasn't directly applied to the amount of my AC purchase (like it should have been), I went in the next week and priced matched Kmarts Thanksgiving ad.

either way, your math is wrong. you didnt spend $10 in your given situation.

60 - 10 - 20 - 40 = -10. not +10.

and you didnt mention in your OP that you were committing consumer fraud to get this "deal".

congrats!

@fenway I know. Poor Best Buy! We have to stick up for them, they're the little guys! You know, the people making BILLIONS in expired gift cards, bloated prices, and selling over marked Monster cables and accessories. That extra $20 price match (since the other $30 was legit...by your standards) is really going to kill their business!

Within two months, Brotherhood will be below the $30 mark. I now consider $40 to be equivalent to full price with these rapid price drops.

And hopefully by then they'll have patched out the game killing bugs (I got the tunnel one at just past 3 hours and once I heard about people getting others after 20+ hours I said "screw it" and talked the store into exchanging it for the Sly Cooper Collection.)

I figure I'll just pick AC:B up again when it hits $20 or so.

@baby sea tuna That's unfortunate. I completed the game, with over a 90% sync, and never got any of the glitches that many people have had problems with...though the framerate was a little choppy every now and then, that might just be the game itself (or maybe it wasn't as optimized for the PS3).

Normally I'd be in your camp on this type of thing; I bought Mass Effect 2 for $37 back in May and now it's like $20. Personally, it just comes down to convenience. I'm going to have the time over winter break to play AC:B that I won't have in the spring, and in the end $37 for a fantastic game isn't such a bad deal.

I'm with you on that one. I bought Brotherhood when it was $40 and it was stolen from me. Now I think I can wait until the price drops to at least $30. With the front end of 2011 loaded with AAA games there are bound to be some deals from stores trying to get rid of stock.

It's so much more game than I got for my $60.

Nearly every single time I get a game on launch day, I wind up being very disappointed later on. I could handle people getting the same game for less, but for some reason, I mind it a lot when people get the game for half what I did, and also get all the DLC. Logically, it's the same principle of lower price (I could buy the DLC).

That Brotherhood price is too good to pass up, though.

@Dustin F yeah, same here. that's exactly why i haven't gotten red dead redemption. i know it's eventually going to come out the way gta IV did with all the dlc in one package. it may be a long time after it comes out, but i have a lot of other games to play in the meantime. we may be in the minority for our game-buying decisions, but i wonder if the suits at these companies know that they lost an "early" sale to some people by specifically intending to release multiple DLC releases, online only, then physical form. i bought gta IV for $25, then both the DLC on disc for $25. now the complete package is $25-30. price isn't as big a deal as the multiple different packages. that's what annoys me most. similar to original releases and then the game of the year packages for games. just rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

Man, I wish Amazon in Canada did game deals like this. I want Brotherhood but don't want to spend the money to buy it full price as I'm only really interested in the multiplayer and I'm sure I'll only play it for a short time before everyone I know moves onto something else.

Would definitely jump on it at that price though if Amazon up here did something similar.

@Mcmax3000 Also, the 8pm one might be EA Sports MMA instead of UFC Undisputed 2010. The hint says ring. UFC doesn't used a ring, they only use a cage.

Then again, I might be giving Amazon too much credit in their MMA knowledge.

A lot of people use Amazon to import games. All PS3s play all PS3 game discs.

And another tip: a lot of people use Amazon.uk for much cheaper movies, though you have to be more careful about region locking.

@Dustin F US and Canada use the same region encoding so that isn't a problem. My issue is just that often, by the time you add international shipping charges to the item, it's not really cost effective for me to order it.

Also, Amazon.com doesn't ship some games out of the US for reasons I never understood. For example, I just looked at Donkey Kong Country: Returns on the Wii and it says it can only be shipped within the US.

However, in this case, even after you add shipping, I'd still be saving $20 over going to the store so I may do it.

I find very little reason to buy games on the Release Day anymore. Once you get a couple of games in your queue, waiting a few months is actually quite easy.

$60 games are for suckas

yeah, I reserve release day purchases for a few games a year (usually because the devs earned my money with a previous game, want to support them and all...) but its rare I shell out $60 for a game. With the way prices drop and games go on sale nowadays, $40 is what I consider a starting point for buying a new game.
