Super Street Fighter 4, NFS Shift now on XBL Games on Demand
30
Fans of downloadable convenience might like to know that Super Street Fighter 4 and Need for Speed Shift are now available via Xbox Live Games on Demand. SSF4 is available for $40, while Shift is a slightly more palatable $30. Oh, Operation Darkness -- the WWII strategy game with vampires and zombies -- is also available today for $40. You know, in case you were waiting for it.

@Juri I dont understant you Xbox 360 owners. When Final Fantasy or other games came in more than one disc you said, "I dont care about standing up every now and then to switch discs." Now you are overpaying for SSFIV and saying "Is better to download it because that way I dont have to be switching games." SSFIV is 17.99 ate amazon. At least I paid that 2 weeks ago.
Well, do what makes you happy.

@Tereso >implying I play Final Fantasy 13 or even talked about that.
regardless, those are completely different comparisons.
And lol @joystiq for downvoting me because I love games on demand.
Guess what guys, I'm gonna continue to buy games on demand wether you like it or not because it's way better then having a Disc that can get scratched and you don't have to open cases and all that shit to play your games.

WTH Operation Darkness for 40 really?
I know you can find that game cheaper just about everywhere my PX has a ton of brand new copies for 9.99 they're trying to sell.
SSIV for 40 is a big WTH to.
Why are these games priced so bad, I've only seen 2 games that have reasonable prices Ghostbusters and EDF are both 19.99 while looking around you can find it cheaper those prices make much more sense than what we have been currently seeing.
I wish I could see sales data for games on the demand

@Jawmuncher I think that a lot of GOD purchases are "impulse buys" - some dude is drunk late at night bored on XBL and sees a game and wants to play it immediately, or maybe he got a ton of XBL points for his birthday or Christmas an doesn't want to spend his own money on it.
Either way, I can imagine that there is some next-day regret involved.

@grossgreg Agreed, the current GOD setup seems to only favor an occasional drunk purchase followed by regret and hopefully never doing it again, they had such an opportunity here to start offering a 10 dollar discount to download games on release, and it would save plastic and paper and gas for shipping, save the planet, save some money, unfortunately the ball is completely dropped here.

meh...
I couldn't care less if GOD games are 5-10 bucks cheaper at my local store. I'll pay more for the convenience of having said game a button push away rather than having to leave the house.

Microsoft has openly said that Games On Demand are priced higher for two reasons. 1) So they won't cut into profits from the physical retail market and 2) offer convenience to people who make impulse buys and/or want to avoid leaving the comfort of their home or waiting for physical deliver.
Microsoft knows you can get the game cheaper elsewhere. They're charging you for the ability to have it RIGHT NOW without leaving your home, and while the mark up in price encourages buyers to purchase a physical disk, the higher price still delivers a good profit to companies who were worried about digital sales cutting into the physical distribution profits. So, you get the game right now, the original publisher still makes a profit even though no disk is sold, and Microsoft gets a bit of cash too even if they were not the publisher of physical release of the game. Also, the jacked up price ensures there's enough money for Microsoft to put a good amount in their pockets as well.
Anyway, Microsoft freely admits the prices are often higher than physical retail. For the consumer, they say that you're paying for the convenience of instant digital delivery. So, they feel justified in charging for that convenience. If you don't want to buy those games, of course, you don't have it.

I totally agree with everything said but I reckon, within 5 years, things will change and MS won't be doing favours for retailers when all the retailers are doing is pushing preowned. Seriously, I went into my local GAME to look for a new copy of AC2. They had one bit of wall (maybe 6 shelves, 6 ft across) with new games, no back catalogue, all chart and they had at least 4 times that amount of preowned - now on a more prominant display. Now, fair enough, if people are strapped for cash, preowned is probably their only option. However, MS (& Sony) have the opportunity to prevent it being the only viable option for some. Most people are actually unaware that no money from preowned goes to the publishers or developers so, of course, the industry is losing money.
So, back to my point, soon MS will wake up an realise that retailers aren't doing them favours so why should MS do any favours for them.

I got Fallout 3 for the convenience factor of not having to swap discs. That said, $30 bucks was WAY too much, admittedly.
The only other game I'd consider getting on that service would be Crackdown 1, but only if they dropped it down to $10, or MAYBE 15. They'll never do that though, because Xbox Originals are $15, and Arcade is positioned just under that, so they don't want this imaginary infrastructure falling apart on them.
Even so, the only games people are buying are XBL Arcade, so something is obviously wrong with their model.

Why do you even post these? Is it so you can laugh at them? I can't believe people are stupid enough to buy these.

I bought CivRev on GoD because none of my local gamestops had a copy (new or used). I think I overpaid by like ten bux. No big.

@Ham With Eyes I think CivRev is $20 on GOD which is a fair price.

Welcome to the future. Next generation when all games are DD-only (because that's what the average gamer says they want), the price will be much higher than they would at retail and price drops would be extremely rare, if they ever happen.
