@CBA25 - The Wii and PS3 have been getting a selection of RBN songs every week for a while now. They don't come the same time as the 360.

Not really surprising - it's not fair to the company to keep a service open that is a money pit.

@Crayola Q Pants ESQ I believe if you have LIVE available in your area, you should be able to access the RBN store. However the program to create RBN titles is only available in the states because of licencing issues. I think it has to do with the XNA. Anyways, Wikipedia says "The Rock Band Network Store was publicly available on March 4, 2010 for all Xbox 360 players in selected countries (US, Canada, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Singapore)." hope I was of some help. :)

Good thing it's only the Wii. If RBN was kaput for PS3, and I wasu nable to get my Devin Townsend fix, I'd be mad pissed.

I know of 4 households that own Rock Band, and none of them are on Wii. Yeah, this was perhaps to be expected.

@The Blank Mage Returns

I know 14 households with Rock Band (including my own). Of those:

12 are on Xbox
1 is on PS3
1 is on Wii

I'm not surprised by this news in the least...

For the people that care they should have invested in a real system. If you're spending money on RBN releases every week you can get a used xbox for like 110 at GameStop and the guitars are el cheapo on ebay. (I got GH5 guitar with game for ~$30) (That's my fave guitar btw even though I hate GH--I traded the game in)

@Foetoid

I don't see why SuperWoody got downvoted so much, he makes a very good point. When it comes to playing Rock band, the wii just isn't a "real" system in terms of what counts, online interfacing and a hard drive.

In an era where online gaming is everywhere, and digital distribution/expansions are huge, the Wii falls shore in every single aspect that matters, hell, due to nintendos crappy way of handling online integration, their games can't even be patched should a game-breaking bug be found after launch (like in twilight princess)

Superwoody shouldn't of been downvoted, he's entirely right, if you have the money to invest in rock band, the instruments, and have the interest and disposable income to be purchasing DLC enough for it that RBN tracks matter to you, than you are really stupid if you haven't purchased RB on 360 or PS3, the Wii is not a real system as far as RB is concerned, hell, it can't even do true 5.1 without an optical audio port, and RB is all about the audio.

@joemodzeleski You know very well that's not what he was talking about. He said it's not a real system, and the sentence ended there. That means it is not a real system for everything. For people who love their Wiis, that's a little rude don't you think? I mean, it may not have the system requirements for games like rock band or whatever, but if you look at the game library that is exclusive for the Wii, there are some amazing games.

Seems to me he was trying to make an argument there.

Not that surprising, looking at the leaderboards on the Rock Band site(As well as doing a little bit of math), you can one of the most popular RBN songs, "Bodies" has sold ~10,000 on the 350, ~5,000 on the PS3...and 614 on the Wii.

Can't really blame them for wanting to stop RBN support on the Wii.

I would say that's less to deal with the Wii and rather the song(s). Sure less people get DLC on the Wii however perhaps the people who use the Wii's RBN don't want Drowning pool. Perhaps they want other bands that're on the RBN. I know for me I see a lot of songs on the RBN I love, however they don't come out on PS3. All the ones that do get ported I absolutely hate. The way they did this system wasn't the best way possible.

@The Aquacharger

The Wii has a generally varied amount of songs available and currently is only about 20 or so songs behind what the PS3 offers and most of those have been the best sellers from "known" acts from the 360's RBN (Seether, Creed, Third Eye Blind, Flogging Molly etc.) The highest selling song right now on the Wii (going by leaderboard stats) is "Higher" by Creed, at that is under 1,000 units with only 803.

Really, when you have no songs that are going past a 1,000 units, while other consoles have the same song selling in the thousands(Higher on the 360 ~8000 and PS3 ~4000) it isn't simply about song selection. Its that the market just isn't there for DLC.

The problem isn't that the Wii isn't a "real" system for Rock Band to run on. The problem is that it doesn't have the memory to store lots of downloaded tunes like the 360 and ps3 (512 MB is crap).

You can use SD cards, but when the biggest they can be is 4 GB (you need SDHC for more than that), you still can't store much.

4Gb is heaps for Rock Band and GH content. I got dozens of songs downloaded, plus a couple of dozen Wiiware/VC games all on SD. Its not like the Wii has HD game demos, a big OS, codecs and other stuff to deal with so it doesnt need the mass capacity the 360/Ps3 does.

Huh, just looked it up, firmware 4.0 adds SDHC support. Mea culpa, I didn't know they had added that.

32 GB is enough for rock band (4 GB is a bit skimpy tho--heck, my plain ol' mp3 collection is far larger than 4 GB). Still sucks you need to buy an add-on, but flash memory is cheap, especially the non-proprietary kind.

I was under the impression that a lot of the problem is simply Rock Bands popularity. Of all the people i know, between them all i can count 11 Wii consoles, 4 Ps3 and 3 Xbox 360 consoles. Between them all, i know noone with Rock Band at all. 4 of the people on Wii consoles have some sort of Guitar Hero game, and 1 each on the HD consoles. I've never even played Rock Band at all. I've heard good things, features and songs that put the GH franchise in the dust, but its brand popularity that seems to keep GH as the more popular franchise. With the music-playing genre dieing out, its only a matter of time before Rock Band hits the dirt permanently, followed quickly by Guitar Hero. It only makes sense the Wii Rock Band would be a casualty first.

@Foetoid

Time for a lesson, RB3 has outsold the most recent GH, RB has also always had far higher DLC sales than GH, and that's where RB's money comes from, GH has more game sales because for a while it was coming out with a new game every 4 months, while RB stayed with RB2 and just did consistent DLC.

RB has always been the more well-recieved franchise, and despite the most recent GH bombing in stores, RB3 did pretty well. I don't think the music genre is dying, just GH.

Harmonix has never liked the Wii, though in this case its excusable, as i was entirely unaware that they were even sending this content to Wii (though i've never invested in any of the music games)

This be-lowsssss! I bought RB2 for the Wii, and refused to buy 3 for PS3 because of the periphs. My home is not a warehouse for toy guitars.

At least I got 3 and already have a whackload of songs downloaded from the past couple of years.

Thus ends my music game career. I'll keep playing 3, not buying anymore of these titles guys!

Thanks for the fun times. At least there's still plenty of content available for purchase, so I still can get some fresher tracks.
