Gritty Mortal Kombat concept trailer getting a webisode series
34
Remember that super violent, Michael Jai White-fronted trailer for a Mortal Kombat film reboot that magically appeared on the internet last summer? Well, sadly, it failed to sell Warner Bros. on the prospect of turning the trailer into a full, proper film -- but that doesn't mean the project is totally dead. According to horror fan site Bloody Disgusting, director Kevin Tancharoen will begin filming a 10-part Mortal Kombat webisode series next month, following in the same gritty vein as last year's pilot.
Other than Jai White's continued involvement as Jax, Bloody Disgusting didn't mention many other details about the series' storyline. We'd usually like a little more reassurance than that; fortunately for these webisodes, the bar for Mortal Kombat-based pieces of cinema is unimaginably low. Like, low. We're talking subterranean, people.

While not directly with the MK storyline I thought that trailer was really bad ass. As a Mortal Kombat fan it got two thumbs up from me.
I can't wait to see what else follows.

I knew it, I just knew it. As soon as I saw the blue text I knew that it was going to be "Too bad you! Will die"

I just watched that Mortal Kombat short again last night and I had forgotten how good it was. I'm not a huge Mortal Kombat fan, but I'm definitely looking forward to the webisodes. The new game actually looks decent too...

Awesome, as long as Baraka doesn't have a buttocks for a forehead.

Michael Jai White announced this formally on my show this past week yet I love how no one cites us as a source. Catch My Take Radio episode 74 and see for yourselves. Nonetheless I am happy to see the universe get expanded.

I can't understand the suits at WB. Pass on this???? I don't know the particulars but that trailer has to be the best looking video game to movie clip of any sort that I've ever seen. High production values (sans that obviously artificial shadow on Scorpion's face) and what seems to be a hint of a good story line. I'm not even a MK fan. Maybe this guy should do something with Street Fighter...but then again, the murkiness and violence of this is a great draw.
I WILL be catching the web-a-sodes.

Good God golly goo goo I want this to be good. Since it is an online series they can do pretty much what they want with it. I hope it's good!

I wonder if Jax is gonna be pissed when Baraka interrupts his Kung Fu.

Sad to see no movie being made, I am however glad to see this awesome concept wasn't totally thrown away. Will be watching!

Wow, Kevin Tancharoen, huh? Definitely did not see that one coming-- this is the guy who directed both Fame (the 2009 remake) and, haha, that one TV series where they were trying to find the next Pussycat Doll.
So now he's doing Mortal Kombat. Well, it's gonna be unique, that's for sure.

Would have loved for this to have become a feature length film, but at least it's still becoming something. Any word on how long the episodes will be?

Looks like he took the same style as the covers to the Nintendo of Japan's Soundtrack collections, Nintendo Sound Selection.

Of course he has applied it to other things, but the point remains.

not to hate but this is a stupid concept because it gets rid of the supernatural stuff which is kinda the basis of the whole game what with out world and magic and all that but I like how johnny cage got killed right away hes annoying
