First announced at Tokyo Game Show last year, Gran Turismo 5's long-awaited Remote Races feature is finally gearing up for launch. A tweet from series head Kazunori Yamauchi confirms an "early February" release for the update.
Formally known as "Gran Turismo Anywhere," Remote Races allow you to control B-Spec races from a PC or mobile device by logging onto the official Gran Turismo website. You won't be able drive, but you will be able to issue commands during the race to a virtual racer that levels up (and down) over time. While not particularly engaging, it is a good way of earning money to use towards better cars in-game.
With the update arriving in early February, it seems Polyphony Digital is making good on its plans to release near-monthly updates for the PS3 driving sim. Update 1.05 came out in late December, and added 608MB of new features and tweaks. What else could be in store for 1.06?

Do I need to have my PS3 running at the time for it to work? And does GT5 need to be running as well? It would be great if i could do Netflix and B-Spec at the same time.

CVG says you WILL need to have GT5 running in the background in order to use this on your browser.

But if you've got a psp this shouldn't be too much of a problem. You can turn your ps3 on remotely with it and if you had autoplay on I would assume gt5 would start right away. Of course that IS just an assumption, I could definitely be wrong there.

Your cant launch some games during remote play... but if they release a update for GT5 that allows it to run on remote play and control certain aspects of the game like B-spec than it would work rather well... Hopefully the PSP will be able to do that... if not than im of with using a computer and or cell phone.
It would be nice tho to run netflix and have some B-spec stuff running in the background

Great, all they need to do now is take out all of the GT4 car models they used from the non-premium cars.

@PSBuckshot You're right, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said remove.
I should have said "all they need to do now is take out all of the GT4 car models they used from the non-premium cars and then put in all the high-quality models that the game SHOULD have come with"
I mean seriously, we wait 6 years to play a game where the majority of the car models are recycled from the last game? What the hell?

@Protome I know what you mean. Gutted that the (real) Mini isn't even a premium!!!

while the game is great regardless, i do have to agree with you about the "Standard" vs. "Premium" cars. it doesn't hinder the racing a bit but when i'm scrolling through my garage, the jaggies on the standard cars do bug me to an extent. if they could update some standard ones to premium models with every update, i certainly wouldn't complain about it.

@Protome GT5 is the most accurate and complete simulation racing game ever made and all you got is you wish some of the cars were more detailed? That's all you could come up with? The game is incredible, and yes they will eventually add more premium cars.

It doesn't bug me that much except that you can't change the rims on standard cars. There are varying degrees of standard car models in terms of quality as well. Some are from GT PSP, GT 4 & GT Prologue. It doesn't bother me because I use the on the hood race camera not the interior but it would be nice to have all the models premium. At least it doesn't affect driving. Still my 2010 goty and the best gt ever IMO. Also, polyphony digital has shipped two products (psp & prologue) between gt 4 & 5. Not like they only worked on gt5.

I've read elsewhere that it is NOT possible to earn money or cars while playing "Anywhere".

@Magnalon Everywhere or on your console, B-spec racing doesn't level up your A-spec character. i.e. it won't open new races for you to race yourself, only for your B-spec racers to run.
But you do get the money they earn for your own use. And any cars they earn too.

Or maybe we could just have remote play and use the PS3 as the processor while if we have a hotspot or a wireless connection somewhere else we could just PLAY GT5 with an addon for the PSP for better control.

Hacked PS3 + PSP or Windows 7 PC = Not limited to B-Spec mode =P

I hope 1.06 adds Nitrous Oxide back to the game. Why they took it out of GT5 is beyond me. It always added that "little bit more" you needed to get a car to the level you wanted.

I already do this to an extent. For the longer bspec races (endurance races) I either run them while I watch tv or have my old lady do it. If your car is fast enough you don't need to give your driver instructions. They will also pit by themselves. My Aspec is right around 31 and my b spec is around 36 ... It's pretty much just running the first 24 hour endurance race over and over to get bspec level 40. It's a huge hassle not being able to save progress on the longer a spec races. I got that redbull x2010 for getting b spec level 35 and that is the fastest car in the game. You have to try and lose a race while driving it.

I'm working on hitting level 35 now(halfway thru 34)...those 24 Hour races are gonna suck balls tho...even if I do have 2 PS3's....my save files I want to use for other games are locked to one console.....smh...
the 9 hour one I keep doing over and over while I'm out for the day or sleep at nite is bad enough...

I know! Even the 5-6 hour ones suck. I try and start the 24 hour ones as early in the day as possible. Even though it screws my ps3 time that night it guarantees it'll only screw up one day. The b spec ones are hard enough and I don't do anything. The last a spec race I did was 6 hours of race time spread over 48 hours of real life time. What's makes it harder is my fiancé is doing ea fit each weekday morning so I can only run endurance b spec races on my days off. I figure you'll need to do the first 24 hour race at least 10 times to go from level 35 to 40.

first, i am very happy they are supporting this game with bigger plans which they actually had at the beginning but are still willing to work on after release.
second, i have not read anything official about this except from the dude's twitter feed so can somebody send an actual link (OFFICIAL) that explicitly says your b-spec driver will not level up if used remotely, please?

I wanna how to win the second race in " pick up trucks " in amateur events i think. I used Dodge and fully tuned it but it's just not fast enough, it starts very good at the beginning but it stops at a certain speed on straight roads and all the competitors start overtaking me -_-

B-spec, as a concept, doesn't sound too awful. However, once you start messing around with this mode it becomes apparent that all it consists of is you watching an overly long race controlled by horrible AI drivers who often seem to completely ignore your commands. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't such a major feature in the game. The menu icon should have been much smaller for this feature....
