Final Fantasy XIII-2 announced, coming to 360 and PS3

Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XIII-2 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. During a Square Enix 1st Production Department event in Japan, producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed the direct sequel to last year's Final Fantasy XIII, which is to be directed by Motomu Toriyama.

Though we hope the "-2" in the title signifies the subtraction of Hope and Vanille, the logo highlights the addition of a new character alongside XIII's prickly leading lady, Lightning. According to a translation by RPG Site, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set to launch in 2011, though it's unclear if that pertains to Japan only.

Update: The English version will launch "next Winter."

@ZexionArmando Amazing battle system… seriously? You meet the one where you can only control one character in your party, and all you need to do is repeatedly press the same button over and over again?

The only flexibility in that system is the paradigm system, which still requires very little user input.

the paradigm system is FAR more complex than traditional jrgps, though this only becomes apparent after 30 hours of handholding. the paradigm system is absolutely incredible. it removes the tedium of most jrpgs (attack attack attack heal), lets the AI do the obvious stuff, and lets you, the gamer, focus on strat/tactics. best combat system ever, and if they correct a few flaws in the AI, it can get even better.

instead of making final fantasy x-2 (which was horrible) and final fantasy XIII-2 (will probably be bad too) why doesnt square enix make sequels to final fantasy 7 and 8.

I played Dirge of Cerberus, but I don't remember it. The extensive brain surgery saw to that. It cost a pretty penny, but the post-it notes I left beforehand assure me it was money well spent.

oh man, 10 was a thousand times better then this one so you could understand a sequel. but how many ppl actually played past the first disc in this one? /yawn

Well, three characters would be an improvement, but classes were already there.

I agree, Hope and Vanille were horrible.

Give me towns, an open world, early side quests, removal of the auto move feature, more Paradigm Shifts and we are golden.

I honestly don't expect any of this, but hope is hope.

UMMM is this the supposed V.S. XIII or another damn XIII how many versions of XIII are there going to be? If this is another version then WHERE THE ...... IS V.S. XIII?

They SUBTRACTED one version of XIII at the conference.

FF Agito XIII is now FF Type Zero due to the fact the director didn't think it was enough like the other entries in the FNC.

And it's also shipping on 2 UMD's.....

I've still to complete the first one...I bought it on the fist week. I got the the point where it finally opened up, then stopped. I tried again a few months later, but then got destroyed by the first thing I came into contact with.

Then it was only ps3 exclusive in Japan?
Then there would be no more games based on ff13?

What next FFvs13 and ff13 agito coming out on the 360 and ds/3ds?
