I really hope the kinect version comes out with a demo. I am very interested if it works well.

@Jack Kevorkian

It'll work about as well as the first Wii motion games did in 2007

@Jack Kevorkian Same, although I'm sure it won't end up as well as I hope it does, so I'll probably be picking up the PS3 version. I loved Grand Slam Tennis on the Wii, so if these controls really are 'advanced', I'll be very excited

please have good motion controls on at least one platform. I REALLY want a good solid tennis game that feels real enough to keep my limited skills from atrophying in the colder months. There's plenty of choices but they're all flawed, too much like ping pong (not that ping pong is bad, just not the same sport), or easily cheated at...

@Agnostiq Play sports champions on expert and you'll see that in ping pong the most minute difference in angulation is captured by Move. I played on easy, but once I played on gold level I was blown away by how move can tell the slightest change in your wrist. I'll wait for the reviews on both tennis games, and the winner will get my cash so I can use it with Move.

@Brook

Really, those are the guys you want in the game? A one time grand-slammer who wouldn't even win a Masters Series event in today's game and a French player who runs so much he is out with injuries half the time?

That was a link to a different tennis game coming out this year (Top Spin 4).

Yeah, Michael Chang and Gael Monfils are my favorite players. They have reached the world ranks #2 and #9, so I don't see why you're patronising them.

Kinect works surprisingly well with table tennis in Kinect Sports, but that's because you can just step around the table area to play. How are you going to run around a tennis court? If all they do is just make it like Wii Sports Tennis where you only control your racquet and not the player, that will be disappointing. However, I can't really think of any other new idea to use Kinect with this sport. Sure, boxing and volleyball are sweet, but tennis might be a little lame.

Anyone have any cool ways that they could utilize Kinect better than just doing the Wii Sports thing I mentioned?

I have the Kinect and I agree that table tennis is really fun. I don't see a problem with Virtua Tennis being on the Kinect because I want to move around while playing it.

In the right developers hands, the following games / genres I believe will work with Kinect:

1. Updated version of Crossed Swords from Neo Geo (or basically Infinity Blade).
2. Fight Night with proportionate characters, no big heads!
3. A first person QuarterBack view for Madden (Blitz maybe?).
4. Some kind of RTS like Command and Conquer.
5. World of Goo and Boomblox would be nice coming from the Wii.
6. A voice and gesture based Pokemon / Monster Rancher style game.
7. Fully interactive (ie. not static images) Murder mystery game were you have to search for clues
8. A peeking tom game (ok, I just threw that one in there).

I think there is a lot that can be done with Kinect and can't wait to see what is in store for us. Let's not forget that there is supposed to be the availability of scanning in an object and using it in the game. Say, a pvc sword or something would be cool.

I meant any ideas about how to make tennis really fun besides doing the Wii Sports style of play... not just any ideas in general about Kinect. There are loads of ideas out there already.

game is more suited for move rather than kinect. The move wand will give some sort of a racket feel

It'll really feel like a racket once Mad Catz makes a racket attachment for it.

@A Sandwich Or these stupids could just grab anything around the house. Since you don't need a controller. Hell use a real racket.

it's nice to see The Move be an option to play this game, but with that said... I'll stick to something simple as Racquet Sports

Not trying to be a fanboy here, but I can't see how this game plays well with the Kinect? Just too limited. I would love to give this game a go on the Move.

I really hope they fix the single player career.

In the last Virtua Tennis, it seems like they didn't even do a simple run-through of the career mode before shipping the game because the difficulty was way off kilter.

You had to play through literally 100s of matches in some junior league and then some other minor league just to get to the real tournaments and without exaggerating, the difficulty mode was so easy at these stages that anyone would get through literally 100s of these matches without losing even a single point.

Hours and hours and 100s of matches where you would not have even the slightest challenge was just insane.

It turned out to be such an insanely long, boring grind that I couldn't get through it to make it to the professional part of the game.

I don't really care about motion controls. I just want it to be a better game than last year's underwhelming VT2010.
