You have to like Eternal Darkness to work at Joystiq. It's on the application exam (right next to the section on Metal Gear Awesome). As such, it is our duty to share the discovery of some Eternal Darkness concept art on the Behance Network page of John Dobbie, former assistant lead artist for Silicon Knights.
The various pieces depict several endings that never made it into the final game (which ended up with four possible endings). The images depict a zombie apocalypse, giant structures built with human bones and humanity marching directly into the mouth of the lobster-like god, Chattur'gha.
Head over to Dobbie's Behance page to check them out.

hands down one of the best gamecube games, I don't know how many times i got frustrated thinking my system or the game was broken and had erased my save file (didn't have access to the internet at the time), would have been nice to see more than 4 endings, that's a game they need to either remake or come up with a sequel too.

Amen! This was the only game that actually got use out of my Gamecube for the short amount of time I owned one.
The bugs crawling on the screen tripped me out! Nothing like that had ever been done before. I'm really surprised there hasn't been a remake or anything yet.

How is it we've never received a sequel or at least a spiritual successor that borrowed elements from this game, notably the sanity meter?
Walking around that house and having things progressively go more crazy was an amazing experience. Plus that bathtub scene made me almost crap my pants.

@mcnerven I believe the game you're looking for is called Amnesia.

@Faceless Troll Amnesia goes more into straight horror/ survival horror territory.

@mcnerven The game didn't sell well. Money-alone, I could see why a smaller studio like SK didn't make a sequel to the game

Also, I believe Nintendo actually patented the concept of "video game insanity". Not sure how specific that patent was, though.

The bathtub scene made me instinctively shout "aaahh" and before i knew it i had hit the power button and turned off the GC...... i didn't play it again for 6 months.
thats why i think its the best game of all time. no other game has ever felt so real

Probably because the title and concept are still owned by Nintendo, while the developer Silicon Knights has since gone to Microsoft (and then gone independent). Of course, that doesn't explain the absence of at least a spiritual successor... maybe next gen.

You would think at least one of those people in the first pic (walking into the Chattur'gha's mouth) would be like, "yo, what the hell am I doing?" And hightail it off to the right.

@danteken No kidding. He'd have a blast in those barren fields, by himself, butt-naked.

Judging by the youtube videos there's no way my laptop (only PC) would run this game which is a shame since it seems like a great concept. I love horror video games and FPS/Action titles that provide options other than guns, like Mirrors Edge and Deus Ex.

I was responding to Faceless Troll's post regarding the PC game titled "Amnesia." For whatever reason it didn't reply directly rather the site placed my comment as though it were an original post. Still, the @Faceless Troll and fact I'm talking about an FPS (which Eternal Darkness obviously is not) clearly provides this information.
Furthermore, why would you assume I a) pirate games and b) don't own a Cube, Wii, controllers and Eternal Darkness? In fact I own all of those items.
In the future I'd advise reading a comment thoroughly before getting your panties in a bunch.

My apologies. I'd say more (like how a newer laptop has a shot at running Amnesia and to try the demo), but I don't want to make any more poor assumptions.

So instead of the 'unnamed game' that some of the pics show and which appears to be in the vein of Eternal Darkness, we got Too Human. Sigh.

Sickly awesome. I remember playing through Eternal Darkness every night for like a week with a friend in order to get all endings. Really REALLY good times. When it comes to bizarre, iot sits right next to Killer7.
I wish we had more creative games like those...
BTW, not satisfied in being awesome, most of these images are alse unbelievably disturbing

I think Eternal Darkness was up there with other awesome games that made you optimistic for the future of videogaming. It provide experiences that couldn't be done in any other medium. Great voice-acting, creepy story-telling, and freaky gameplay. What more could anyone ask? (well, except for a sequel...)

$20-$30 is pretty cheap for an out-of-print game.

It's Nintendo knowing how to use a company before it peaks.
It happened with the SNES, N64, and Gamecube.

You have to love a story in which no matter who you pick as your god, you're F'ed in the end.

Each ending was **slightly** different. each had different "flashy images" before she realizes that she used one ancient to stop another and now has to deal with what she brought in.
