Thank God this isn't an EA game. There's actually hope that there'll be enough servers to meet the demand on launch day and for the 2-3 weeks following it.

I didn't really like player vs. player in either game, but Horde mode was godly. No other game has gotten anywhere near as good as Epic did. (Call of Duty and Halo ripped it off after they saw the positive reaction). Can't wait for Horde part 2 and Beast mode.

Technically they ripped it from Marathon Survivor mode... Which was ripped from something else, and so on and so one

@eliteghost I had heard that the origination of the Gears Hoard / Call of Duty Zombies / Left 4 Dead type of play where you use beefed up characters to fight waves of ever increasing weenie characters was started back with Counterstrike. There was a mod that started that gameplay type, where one beefed up character had to take on an army of weaklings with nothing but a knife which inspired all the other iterations.

@Adhesive All five hundred of them? There was surely one of these oddly symmetrical maps that you had to have enjoyed. For example, River was awesome.

I liked the maps I just didn't like the grenade wall tagging, the mortar, the falling down, the ink grenades, the slowness of it.

These few details ruined what Gears 1 was! A fast paced game. Why the heck would you need mortar in these small maps? Ink grenades are really unnecessary as well. Most of the kills are just plain luck and annoying as was the other things I listed above.

Gears of War 1 was superior in all ways to 2 in terms of gameplay. It didn't help that there was no social match searching either and instead used the impersonal matchmaking system instead.

They changed way too much in Gears 2 and it didnt even feel like Gears. =(

I really missed being able to look for custom matches....

execution with a long bleed out is what MADE the game. rushing in to stomp someone's head or pick someone up while your friends are covering you., man. that was the best MP ever.

Yup, people still play it, especially since Cliffy and co have been giving like 100X XP and other stuff so players can reach lvl 100.

My Xbox and copy of G2 got jacked and I never bought it again. *sigh (damn you MW2) So I don't know how the MP is now. I was really close to getting it last month but then just though I'd wait for the beta. Also, Black Ops. again *shakes fist

Its about time. It was the most useless gun in that game because of the dumb rate of fire. But it was definitely a cool looking and sounding gun. Happy! =)

@xFenixKnightx Then you obviously aren't using it well, or haven't play in awhile... If you hit someone in the head with an active it instantly downs them. Like 1-2 active burst anywhere in the body will down too.

I'm not gonna lie, I thought the slow pace of the matches and the waiting added to the intensity. It made tactical moves more important, because dying actually sucked.
I liked GoW because it's combat flow was different, and these changes making it more like every other shooters make it a bit sad for me.
Oh well, unless I hate the beta, I doubt I won't be getting this one...

I still don't see why everyone complains about host advantage and cheaters in Gears 2 for... I have over 40 days played in MP and have only ran into a handful of cheaters, all of which been banned. Mainly because I recorded them cheating and was able to send it to a programmer at Epic who then bans them. Which is more than what a lot of companies would do.

After the last TU, host advantage is nothing but a bad excuse... If you're a half decent player you can do well with or without host. Also after the last TU, there's only one glitch you can do in MP, which you might run into 1/250 matches and you can get them banned fairly easy...

Very excited for the beta and game, they're shaping up to be great.

The biggest issue with your post are all the "after this TU" caveats. That doesn't change that Gears 2 was so insanely broken at launch.

Like most people here, I wasn't a big fan of PvP either, despite being really pumped for it.

Now only did it take forever to get a game going, I often felt cheated when I'd die easily while often requiring to empty far too many bullets into an enemy, it got better over time but at that point I didn't see myself going back to it due to other games.

Though I gotta say, I put a TON of hours into completing hardcore campaign a couple of times with different friends over live, and even more hours playing horde, and trying to get that 'dirty dirty horde' achievement.

Does he not realize there is no "host migration" on a dedicated server? The "host" is the server, and I'm pretty sure the servers aren't going to ragequit. Servers do occasionally crash and have to be reset, but there is no "host migration" for a game running on a dedicated server. That's one of the benefits of dedicated game servers! Rage quits will not end or stall the game!

@Levi During private matches and when the servers are down for maintenance, there will be a host. So that's when host migration comes into play.

Ok, I can see that. If the game supports both the host system and dedicated servers, as it should, there would need to be host migration implemented for games that aren't being run on dedicated servers. I fail >.<

I think sometimes the arguments between the two network styles lead me to forget that a game can support both, as PC games have for years.

@Levi Lol well it's not something that you'd expect. My first though when I heard dedi servers was, "Oh, why the hell would they host migration, it wouldn't do anything."

Anyway, I'm glad to see Epic starting to be as good as other big MP Games, such as Halo and CoD when it comes to connection. But damn, this game is gonna be great. Beast Mode and Horde are gonna be amazing alone, hopefully the MP works right out of the box.

I would like to see the likeness in the good guys "COG' and the bad guys "HORDE' fixed. I remeber hearing they were gonna change the colors so during mulitplayer matches u could tell more easliy who is who on the battle field . And PUTTING MORE COLORS IN THE GAME WOULD BE GREAT

well this is awesome i guess, except Aussie's like me will still lag in games because i doubt we'll get access to dedicated servers near us. Which means in the long run, gears of war 3 will be even less unplayable than 2.
