Some have suggested that this Achievement is a possible reference to the Borealis, an Aperture Science vessel first mentioned in Half-Life 2: Episode Two. In the brief scene (embedded after the break), Isaac Kleiner notes that the Borealis contains some kind of technology that can help humanity. Could Portal 2 tie into the final Half-Life 2 episode? Or are overeager fans simply grasping at nothing? April 20 can't come soon enough.
Portal 2 Achievement invites Half-Life 2: Ep 3 conspiracy theory

All fifty of Portal 2's Achievements have been uncovered by Xbox360Achievements.org. In typical Valve fashion, there are some comedic gems in the list, like "The Part Where He Kills You," and some in-jokes, including "Narbacular Drop" and, yes, "Still Alive." But one Achievement is generating some real buzz: "Ship Overboard" has players discovering "the missing experiment."

I knew as soon as I saw that Aperture Science logo in Half-Life 2 Episode Two that it would tie into Portal.
...and I thought I couldn't be more hyped for HL2: Episode 3.

Does Portal 2 have the same graphics engine and P1?

@xFenixKnightx Portal broke every gameplay convention an FPS could have for the unarguable better by not being a shooter and you're asking about the graphics?

@xFenixKnightx In the same way that it has the same engine as Half-Life 1, sure.
But in less of a hyperbole... Valve has been incrementally updating the engine ever since they purchased the license from iD for the original Quake engine. There will doubtlessly be new things in the Portal 2 engine, followed shortly by SDK updates so mod makers can use them.

@TraceurRyuk Part III I have heard theories floating around that Ep3 will be HL3.

That's the rumor; not that Ep. 3 will be titled "Half-Life 3," but that Ep. 3's length will be comparable to a full Half-Life game.

@Chareth Cutestory I thought the points of "episodes" were being shorter, cheaper and having close released dates. Why not just call it "Half-Life³"

@shabby329 the boat part was on the screen during judith's message, so either that screen was taking with the player standing really close to the screen or somehow got to that environment in the game, maybe with Gmod or something

Unless it's changed significantly, Portal 2 is supposed to be several hundred years in the future, at least that's what the game informer cover story said. So even if it's more than just a neato achievement name, or episode 3 has some megaton time travel stuff, it probably won't be much more than a sly nod or cool easter egg.

I don't remember the cover saying several hundred years. I could be wrong.
But from what Valve has said, and what has come out of previews behind closed doors, it's set somewhere between 10-20 years in the future.

@BrianH From what I've read/heard, Chell is put into stasis by the party escort robot and finally wakes up a few hundred years after the events of the first game, probably hence why in the footage we've seen some areas appear to be overgrown and GLaDOS has apparently had time to invent new toys for us to play with.

I think Valve made it clear and inevitable that the two games will smash into each other, what with Aperture being the only real piece of information from that busted video clip in Episode 2.
I don't think it will be something as fanboyish as Gordan teaming up with the Portal test subject (did she have a name?), or fighting GLADoS. The plot of Portal 2 will definitely further set up Aperture as a big bad entity, with its fingers in many global affairs. I think Valve wants to recreate that Black Mesa experience in HL3 without literally going back there, and is using a wing of Aperture to do that. Kinda like how the MGS series has a lot of deja-vu locations and set pieces.
I didn't even like HL2 all that much, but this crossover tease, as vague as it is, has me sold on another installment.

Chell was her name.
Aperture Science has always been connected to Half-Life and that universe. You see projections in offices in Portal describing how much of a share of military funding each company gets. And GLaDOS says "You don't know what's going on out there".

Portal 2 takes place hundreds of years after portal 1 so no. they can't be connected, just a easter egg.

@EightBitSpartan
where are you getting this hundreds of years apart thing?
also, i fail to see how you can remove the possibility of them being connected, due to differences in time when we are talking about a universe where portals exists and we can travel to other planets

@BrianH http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_2 You do have a good point there. I guess I still believe that valve is going to disappoint me with some sort of connection between the two universes being that they have disappointed me so fast with a release of episode 3.

I thought Portal 2 was supposed to be set hundreds of years after Portal 1 (with the protagonist apparently in stasis over this time), so, unless HL2 is set hundreds of years after Portal 1 (which is unlikely) there appears to be a few hundred years between the two games, unless Gordon goes to the future in Episode 3 - Which isn't all that unlikely, but wouldn't make sense considering the Borealis still exists in the 'present.' - Or does it!? Ah well, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

ok first dont discredit the hundred years part...since that what the story about portal 2 in game informer magazine said. and as for the nifty screenshot, i have been there myself. all it takes is a clever mod to change the function of one of your buttons to enable no clipping mode. i.e. fly/ walk through walls. play up until you get to the military base in episode two( forget the name) and turn no clipping on and fly around till you find it. Modio comes with a hl mod tool so it takes little effort

@KryptCeeper
You don't need to mod your game to activate noclip. It's a function in the game console, you can even use the console to bind it to whatever button you wish.
