Saints Row: The Third landing on 360, PS3 and PC in Holiday 2011

Open-world comedic crime caper news now, with THQ announcing Saints Row: The Third for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Developed by Volition Inc., The Third (video game in the popular franchise) sees you thriving as a celebrity in the persistently harassed town of Stillwater, now a haven for your gang's merchandise and infamy.

Your popularity draws the ire and attention of "The Syndicate," a criminal organization with tendrils in different parts of the world, and ultimately propels you into a new city that hosts "the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen." Judging by the nine-way, airborne gunfight happening on Game Informer's April issue cover, said outlandish gameplay scenarios may be frowned upon by the TSA.

Oh. Hell. YES. I loved SR2 on the PC. Incredibly fun to mess around with character creation and just tear up the city.

Here's hoping for more than just a console port (yeah right).

@Tinkus I'm excited too. Can't wait for a sandbox game that isn't OMG REALISM. Just one thing: make sure Johny doesn't look like a duck this time.

Totally agreed, SR2 had probably the most robust character customisation out of any game I've ever played. I would've spent a good third of it just shopping for clothes and visiting the plastic surgeon - ah a sign of our superficial times, eh =)

Some of the likenesses found on YouTube are incredible (check out a dude named marcusgarlick), a testament to both the skill of the player as well as the game's capabilities.

SR2 is the best sandbox game ever, alongside San Andreas. GTA4 is a piece of shit in comparison.

A ninja doing barrelrolls in a biplane with a buddy doing handstands on the wing in a hazmat suit. That is why SR2 is amazing.

I tired of Just Cause 2's directionlessness (although the grappling hook and parachute were awesome, of course) and Mercenaries is just explosions and nothing else (plus I felt it was overlong). I preferred Saints Row 2's variety and, most of all, it had co-op, while the other two did not.

I thought it was an ugly, janky mess. I understand that there were lots of things to do, but none of them were well crafted. Also the PC port was trash, somehow running worse than Crysis.

No. Just no.

I know Volition is trying to do a form of satire by having you play as a celebrity and fight the Syndicate (are they the same Syndicate from the old 16-bit era game?), but this makes the game seem really stupid, which I didn't think was possible with Saints Row.

It's like they took Castle of Shikigami and made it a third person shooter.

Awesome. Gta4 was amazing but these games are pure stupid awesome fun.

Finally! GTA IV was great, but SR2 was more fun. Plus there was actually stuff to do after you beat the story.

I understand why people didn't like it. I know it seemed a bit too clunky but I really enjoined it. I loved Saints 1 & I really liked Saints 2. Here's hoping Saints 3 takes it over the top! & not just try to compete with GTA this time

I had WAY more fun with SR2 than I did with GTA4, instant buy for me.

Ah, I also wonder if they are making a dig at GTA4 with the airplane, since GTA 4 removed flying airplanes (one of many fun things removed from the series). So, I guess we have airplanes we can fly, yippee if so.

Saints Row was what made me want the next generation of games. Saints Row continues to be one of my favorite series' in games. YES I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS.

I mean seriously, skydiving gun fights... yes... no please, you can have your way with me yes.

Don't need a plane, just infinite parachutes and a grappling hook.

I love the Saints Row series and this just made my day. But having said that, the flight controls in SR2 were TERRIBLE! If they're adding more air-based missions, they'd better fix those flight controls.

Saints Row 2 is awesome, but when I started doing online co op with my brother, it became perfection. Heres to more handstand surfing on ufo's!

SR2 was one of my favorite games. Here's to hoping that SR3 is, at a minimum, as good and as funny as SR2.

Hopefully the gameworld is nicer this time around. I enjoy the gameplay, and even find the storylines to be more enjoyable that they should be, but the game worlds tend to be bland as hell
