'Metal Slug fans will find a lot to love here ...'

As a Metal Slug devotee, I don't see how this compares other than being run and gun. Metal Slug has pixel-perfect controls and hit detection, not to mention glorious, uncluttered, hand-drawn visuals. Shoot Many Robots, as fun as it looks, looks dreary. In the video and screens, foreground objects seem to be getting lost in the background and there's a lot of on-screen clutter. Being 3D doesn't exactly help it's case for perfect hit detection either, but not having played it, I'll reserve judgement on that.

It looks fun though, but I'm not expecting Metal Slug perfection.

@Epoque Your observations are very astute - thanks for the feedback. To a "Metal Slug devotee", I'm certain you will find the game different - maybe even blasphemous! We've eased up the difficulty while also upping the enemy count. The end result is something that's quite a bit more chaotic. The ability to achieve mastery of the game that exists in Metal Slug is very much present in Shoot Many Robots but it's a different kind of mastery, for sure! Can't wait for you to get your hands on it. I think it's something devotees of the genre as well as newcomers will be able to appreciate.

@almnop stupid question that wasn't answered in the preview text: Will SMR feature twin-stick controls? I just came back from playing Hard Corps Uprising, and the one thing I'm missing there is free aim via the right stick.

If it's in, this is an insta-buy for me.

@BFBeast666 Not a stupid question at all - We've heard that from a few people and tried it here. I'm not sure yet what control scheme(s) we'll end up with. What we've done is take the ADS idea from CoD and Gears and translate it over. You can hold the left trigger and lets you aim unsnapped and bumps up the accuracy a bit. It's not quite the same dual-stick, but it leaves the other face buttons free to use (jump, melee, weapon switch, and fire) and keeps fire off the right-trigger which feels awkward in a RnG. Our playtesting has shown that players that want dual-stick controls frequently end-up preferring the current default layout after some time with the game.

@KiraXD "I am Heavy Weapons Guy, and this; is my copy of Borderlands." Some even have a hat in that picture :P

I should probably give this a go though since I'm a Monday Night Combat fan and I need to stick to a lot of arguments I made. ;)

I'm a big metal slug fan, and I played SMR at PAX East.

SMR only activated my "meh" response. Just no fun factor. The visual style is most reminiscent to me of the faux-3d prerendered games from the SNES/Genesis era like Clay Fighters, that wasn't a turn-on either.

Good luck to you guys, I am predisposed by birth to support anyone doing the good work in the Boston area.

I'm just glad it's not another zombie game. I love zombies and all, but we've been smothered lately. On the other hand, shooting robots sounds like a lot of fun.
