Beta over here! L4D2 'Cold Stream' DLC now up for testing

Hey, remember when Valve announced that the new Cold Stream DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 would enter beta testing within the "next few weeks?" Guess what? It's been a few weeks! The DLC, created by modder Matthew Lourdelet, is now available for beta testing in both the PC and Mac versions of Left 4 Dead 2.

Valve warns that the campaign does have bugs -- it's a beta test, after all -- and asks players to report them via the in-game bug reporter. The company also invites feedback and suggestions -- particularly regarding the finale -- in the Cold Stream forums.

I completely forgot about L4D!!! It's been so long! I'll definitely pick this up on 360 if it's not too expensive, nothing like support for some modders and an awesome supportive company like valve.

I love me some Left 4 Dead, and I wish that future DLC, be it Valve or community made, would take place in real-world places. A campaign in New York or Seattle or Vancouver would be pretty sweet. A Disney Land campaign would be cool, especially if the Uncommon Commons are dressed in Disney costumes.

@ch3burashka ummm I know L4D is in real places...I am from Savannah orginally. It barely resembles Savannah by the way I'm not sure why they used it. They used the worst locales and hills...there isnt a hill for 150 miles of the city. It's called the Low Country.

I wish fewer games would take place in the real world, personally.

For the past couple months I've been working on a Disneyland recreation where the survivors fight from the main gates all the way to Splash Mountain. Its going to be a while until its done, but look for it in the coming months.

@darkinchworm Needs real world environments so we can start using it to prepare for the zombie apocalypse. If we're unprepared, we're dead.

Zombies of the Caribbean. You forgot to mention Zombies of the Caribbean. That one was fun as hell too, although not really hard.

Got the game on the 360. Getting me some points for sure to get the DLC pack the day it comes out.

The user created map isn't good. However, the original L4D maps are, and worth paying for. I have the game for mac, but am still buying the pack for my 360, because couch-op.

Yeah, who would do a crazy thing like that? You know, despite the user-made equipment you can buy on the PC version of TF2 or anything. They don't need payment for work!

Yeah they don't. I'm fine with modders asking for donations, but paying for their stuff is absurd.

I played this map on Versus yesterday and it is AMAZING!!
It is super hard and that is why it is amazing.
If the survivors make one careless mistake; it is all over. A lot of teamwork is required in this game and since a lot of Pros play Left 4 Dead 2. It is uber fun and challenging.

I played Left 4 Dead 2 on 360 for about a year and never lost a game. (Never Rage Quit BTW)
on PC, my W/L ratio is 50/50....

My feeling is the complete opposite. I don't think it's very inspired or very good. It's just a random mash-up of events from the original L4D2 maps (bridge, car lot, etc.), just with a lot more cheap insta-death areas thrown in. I'm more excited for the other L4D1 maps.

This is unusual. A beta for a campaign DLC? What's the point in having an official release when you're basically giving it out already.

It is a mod that is getting official help from Valve. Modders always release their new campaign/versus maps a bit early to do bug tests.

On PC, it will almost positively absolutely definitely be free anyway

Well, right now it has a lot of issues with the map. I played in versus and I spawned behind some trees that I couldn't get out of.

Also playing as the tank I got stuck between the rocks in the river.

Plus the old maps from left 4 dead 1? Where's my wallet?

Wow, I just tried this map. It's almost completely horrible in how it gives you no direction whatsoever, and points where it's unbelievably easy to die that will make versus completely one-sided. Oh, and there's a part with completely random slow-motion for no reason.

I really hope this is beta-testing the level in general as to what works and what doesn't, instead of JUST the multitude of bugs present in it.

You were never really meant to make it all the way to the safehouse in L4D. So if this map is difficult and allows for the infected to have the upper hand then I don't see this as a bad thing.

Nobody want VS matches that drag on and on.

Does Valve still make stuff for their games, or do they just pull out mod community stuff? I mean, I'm sure this is cool and all....but I'd really like to see some DLC I can call canon.

I really don't wanna dislike Valve, cuz they do so much good, but seriously, they come out with one game every like 6 years or something.

Wow and I recently traded in L4D2 for DA2 because I thought there would be no more DLC. And now DA2 is practically unplayable. Egg on my face huh?
